(A/N) This chapter is a weird one, I'll tell you that. The AI was unclear what it wanted to happen here. You might be able to see where I tried to intervene and turn the story in a coherent direction, but the AI was stubborn. It was fun, honestly!

Disclaimer - This story was written with AI Dungeon just for fun, meaning that some stuff was written by me and others were written by the AI. This results in OOC moments, especially in James' case, and chaotic energy in general. It's also why my writing style is different since this is mostly AI generated.

I also do not own these franchises or their characters. Silent Hill belongs to KONAMI, Resident Evil belongs to CAPCOM, and Final Fantasy IX and NieR:Automata belong to SQUARE ENIX.

Chapter 3: Documents, Insanity, and Ziz

Three Months Later...

James looked at the map ahead of them.

"Okay, we're two clicks away," he said. "Do you have the coordinates?"

"Yup," a voice replied.

James looked over his shoulder.

"Is that Big Red?" he asked.

"No, I'm 9S," replied a white haired boy with a black blindfold. "I've been filling in for Heather for the past month."

"Since when?" James asked.

"Since she didn't want to be in this story anymore," 9S shrugged, handing James the map.

"I don't blame her," Piers sighed.

"Yeah, I wish I'd never been brought in," Zidane muttered under his breath. "What are we even doing, James?"

James looked at the map.

It indicated that their current position was marked as "A", with the "A" being a flashing, red light.

"We're going to head to the "A" for a closer look," James said.

James looked at his crew.

"If you say so," Piers replied. There was a smirk on his face.

"Okay, let's go," James said, putting the car in drive.

James drove the car down the back roads until he found the right click. It was a warehouse, but there were no signs of life and it looked abandoned. James parked the car and got out. He looked around and pointed to a dilapidated building.

"What's that?"

"It's a warehouse," 9S stated. "They're often used for storage."

"So could this be where the virus samples are?" Piers asked.

"Could be," James said.

James walked over to the building. It was clearly abandoned by the looks of it. Rust had started to build on the front door. James opened it with a solid kick. There was nothing inside.

"What were you expecting?" James muttered bitterly to himself. "A zombie?"

James stepped inside.

"Zombie?" 9S asked.

"It's best you don't think about it," Zidane said, giving the other boy a pat on the shoulder. "It gets weirder from here on out."

James wasn't sure, but he thought he saw movement in the corner of his eye.

"Stay alert," James ordered.

James moved the gun around in his hands, gripping it tightly.

"Hello!" James called. "Anybody there?"

James jumped, shocked by the sudden noise. He quickly regained his composure.

"Hello?" James said again, more softly.

Everyone gripped their weapons in anticipation.

James was about to draw his gun, when he realized there was no one there. He lowered his weapon.

"I think I heard something."

"Me too," said Zidane.

"Yeah, I think I saw something too," Piers stated.

James looked around. The warehouse was completely empty.

"Well, there's no one here," James said.

"Should we look around?" 9S suggested, looking around cautiously. "There could be something of use here."

"I agree with this new guy," Piers shrugged. "We are here to look for virus samples."

James nodded. "Let's do that."

James and his crew spread out, examining the warehouse. James pointed to a green metal table along the back wall.

"I think I found something," he said.

James walked over to the table.

"What is it?" Zidane asked.

James picked up the metal table and looked underneath it.

"Ziz!" Zidane exclaimed in surprise.

James looked where the boy had indicated. Under the table, there were three large, glass vials.

"What are these?" James asked.

"I don't know," Zidane replied. "Maybe this document could explain what's going on here," 9S stated, approaching James and giving him the document.

James took the paper.

"The document explains it all," James said. "Come on Ziz, let's get in the car."

"Who is 'Ziz'?" 9S asked.

Piers patted his back sympathetically. "Not even I know."

The group climbed back into the car.

"Where to now?" Piers asked.

James shook his head.

"I don't know," James said. "Let's head back to the hotel and see if we can figure out what's going on."

James drove back to the hotel. When he parked the car, James looked around.

"Anybody see anything?" James asked.

There were no signs of movement. James climbed out of the car.

"Are you sure there was someone here?" Zidane asked.

James nodded.

"It looked empty to me," Zidane said.

James looked around.

"There's something over there," James said, motioning to a set of stairs that led up a short way into the building.

"What did you see?" 9S asked. "Because I didn't see anything?"

"Wait," Piers spoke up. "I see what he means, look."

He pointed to where James had indicated. There was something there. James climbed the steps and looked over the railing.

He yelped.

"What?" Zidane asked, coming up behind him.

James pointed to the grass.

"Oh," Zidane said.

James walked over to the grass. Under the tall blades, James spotted a single human foot. It was covered in spiders.
James stared at the spiders. They seemed to be looking at James, too.

He shuddered.

He grabbed a large rock and smashed the spiders.

"Dude..." Zidane sighed.

"What's going on?" Piers asked, catching up with 9S not far behind him.

James looked up.

"There's a... a body... upstairs. Ziz saw it. We need to go check it out."

"Wait," Piers said. "Are you sure it's even in there? I mean, I don't see any..."

James pointed. "Look."

James and his crew looked and saw a woman's shoe.

"So a woman lost her shoe...?" Piers asked sceptically.

James nodded.

"Come on, Ziz, let's go."

James and Zidane walked up the stairs.

"Careful," James said. "Don't slip and go falling."

James and Zidane walked up to the body. The smell was overpowering.

"Ew," Zidane said.

James shuddered.

"So what happened?" James asked. "How did she die?"

"I don't know," Zidane said. "I found her like this."

"Zidane, you just got here," Piers stated. "How could you have found her?"

9S could be heard muttering, "now I see why Heather left, these guys are insane..."

"I... don't know," Zidane said. "I just got here. James told me..."

James pointed. "Okay, let's go check out the warehouse."

"We've already been there today," 9S pointed out in disbelief. "We didn't find anything aside from two vials and some documents. We came here to review them, remember?"

James glared at the boy.

"I remember," he said. "Now let's go check out the warehouse."

James and his crew went back to the warehouse.

9S sighed. "Why are we here?"

"To suffer..." sighed Zidane.

James looked around. There were several exits from the warehouse.

"Where do those lead?" James asked.

"I don't know," Zidane responded truthfully.

James looked around more.

"Well, we're wasting time. Ziz, take off your shoes and then we'll search the place, while I consult the map."

"Why do I have to take off my shoes?" Zidane asked.

"Hey, James!" 9S called enthusiastically from the back seat of the car. "I found something in the documents and it turns out what we're looking for is in a warehouse in Spain."

"Great, so we've wasted time," Piers groaned.

James glared at the boy.

"Hey, I'm the one who found the body in the first place," James pointed out.

James was silent as Zidane took his shoes off.

9S sighed in exasperation and got out of the car. "You people are insane!" he yelled.

"Zidane put your shoes back on and 9S get back in the car," Piers ordered calmly. "James, stop being weird."

James glared at the man.

"We're searching that warehouse," James said sternly. "Piers watch the car."

So... yeah, we're exploring the warehouse twice, because the AI wanted to. It also didn't want Piers to come, maybe because it has an easier time with three characters or something. I don't know.

I also don't know why the AI wanted Zidane to take his shoes off, but I was quick to have Piers cancel that.

And lastly, the identity of Ziz. So in the previous chapter, Zidane said that he was going to give that nickname to James. He even called James "Ziz" once or twice in this chapter. But for the remainder of the chapter, James calls Zidane "Ziz" instead. It's weird, but that's AI Dungeon for you.
