Hello all!
This is my second story. I love reading about Bella being a vampire before meeting the Cullens so I thought I would give it a shot.
Reviews are welcome. :)
I was perched on a tree waiting, listening. The world was very much alive around me. Unaware of the deadly creature looking for her next meal.
Part of me felt jealous of these humans. Being able to age, find love, lose love, and have children. I have been frozen in time for 89 years. My life, taken from me at the age of seventeen.
I was changed into what I was now. A vampire. Advanced strength, speed, sight, and smell. But forced to take the life of humans to survive. Blood. The monster inside me whispered.
In the beginning, I was less controlled. Newborns needed more blood more often. With no sense of remorse, it takes time to regain some of your humanity. Some never regain it and love the monster they become. I remember my life before this one. My memories were fuzzy, but I recounted them often so I would not forget..
It was 1931, the Great Depression wreaking havoc across the nation. Walking into town you would see thin faces and bodies. Hunger was the only killer I knew in Springfield, Tennessee.
Luckily, my father came from money so I did not know the loss like others. My father, Charlie Swan was a nice man. When the depression started to hurt our town, he started doing what he could to help people. My mother, Renee, and I followed into his footsteps by making dresses and other clothes to give to those that could not make their own.
I was lucky to come from a wealthy family. But I was blessed to come from a kind one. The only thing we seemed to argue about had been me finding some to marry. I had no interest in marriage or finding a man. But father deemed me old enough to begin courting, so I did.
Many were nice enough. I found myself fake smiling and laughing more than not. I remember my mother telling me, "Oh Bella, you will miss these days." I didn't believe her of course. But she was right. Soon, I would be wishing I was going on those dates. I would be wishing for a husband and a child. I would be wishing I was normal.
November 13th was a cold evening and I was leaving a friend's house a little later than normal. I had a car waiting for me in front of the house. Steven, a man that worked for my father, opened the door for me as I walked toward the car.
I smiled up at the kind man. "Thank you, Steven." He nodded politely, closing the door behind me.
We were on the long, winding road on the way home when suddenly we hit something. I was jostled in my seat, my head hitting the side of the door. My vision was blurred as I tried to understand what happened.
I sat up shaking my head from the pain. My breathing coming in panic gasps, "Steven. Are you alright? What did we hit?"
I looked up toward the driver's seat and froze in shock. Attached to Steven's neck, as if he was kissing it, was a man. His red eyes focused on me. He was as gorgeous as he was terrifying. Long blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail. Pale skin that seemed to glow, he had no blemishes. But the red eyes, unblinking made the uneasiness in me grow.
My eyes widen in alarm with each passing moment. Suddenly, the man let's go of Steven and his body slumped, lifeless. The man with red eyes is still looking at me, but a small smile is forming on his lips. My fight or flight instincts seem to kick in and I begin clawing at the door trying to get out. By some miracle, I open it and I start running. The maniacal laugh from behind me causes the hairs on the back on my neck to rise.
"Oh, I love it when they run." The voice says. It makes me shiver. His voice is like bells. In any other situation, it would make a person lean in, eager to hear more. However, now it ensures me my fear is valid.
Within a blink of an eye, the man is in front of me. He grabs me by the neck and raises me off the ground. "It's a shame really. You smell absolutely delectable and are fairly pretty for a human." He sneered. I tried punching him in his face and with a crack, my hand flared with pain. His skin was like stone. The man blinked in surprise before laughing at my attempt. "Hmm... I'll attempt to not kill you little one, but I won't make any promises." Then his razor-sharp teeth cut into my neck and I felt so heavy. My brain trying to comprehend that he was drinking my blood. I felt so sleepy before the flames began licking my veins.
Somehow he was able to control himself to stop. I burned for three days. I begged to be killed, for the pain to stop.
When the pain ended, I awoke in the middle of the woods with a note beside me. It explained that I was now a vampire, we hunted humans for their blood, and to keep the secret. If I failed to keep it, the Volturi would come and end me.
I feel like he was smart for not sticking around. I am quite sure I would have destroyed the blond vampire for what he did to me. But waking alone was worse.
The world around me was so different. It was as if I could finally see, hear and smell. I was amazed by it all. But it didn't take long for the amazement to wear off. I traveled alone these 72 years. It took me 10 years to allow myself near humans more than just short hunting trips. All I wanted in the first 10 years was blood. It didn't matter who from. I had many accidents.
Thankfully, I regained most of my human memories and I believe that's what helped me gain some of my humanity back. These people all around me had a mother, father, sibling, child. Someone to grieve for them if they went missing.
I tried to find my targets by their actions. Pedophiles, rapists, murderers. People that preyed on the weak and found joy from it.
I waited and listened. It helped me with my control. I breathed in the scents of the humans while I waited for one to show their true selves.
"Help!" I heard a muffled cry. I was up and moving within seconds. I saw a woman being held by a man against a wall in an alley. She was doing her best to fight him off, but he was stronger. But not stronger than me. I thought with a smirk.
The woman seemed to lose consciousness as her body went limp, but I could still hear her breath and her heart beating. I went up behind the man silently and then ripped him off of her.
"What the hell?" He roared. His eyes found me and he grinned. He shamelessly looked me over before smirking and walking towards me, "You can join the party sugar. It's no problem."
First, I give him a playful smirk before crouching and snarling, "The party is over." I launched myself at him and he was dry within seconds. I turned and checked on the girl, finding her phone and dialing 911.
I picked up the lifeless body and took it to a dumpster. After setting it on fire, I returned to my safe haven in the woods. There have been many times I have lived in the city with the humans, gotten a job, and tried to act normal. But this city in New York had a good population with a little too much sun. I found a deserted cabin in the woods several months ago and decided to claim the area for a little while. It was easier sometimes, not having to hide.
I decided the next morning to take a run to a good river for a swim. Running was one of the few things from the life I enjoyed. It made me feel free. As I was running, I came across a scent. Vampire. I stopped frozen in place, unsure what was now safe. I let my instincts take over as I tried to determine where they were and how many. I let my shield extend feeling the world around me in my other sense.
I heard the rustling of footsteps coming toward me from the east and found them with my shield. My eyes widened as I determined there were four of them. A coven of four? How are four traveling together?! I thought anxiously.
I didn't want to fight, but really with four vampires, I didn't stand a chance. I decided to hold my ground and see what they wanted. I had the higher ground. In the sense of trouble, I would run.
Hmm... Who is she about to meet?
