(A/N) Okay, let's see how further this abomination can go! Our third (?) ark, let's go!

Disclaimer - This story was written with AI Dungeon just for fun, meaning that some stuff was written by me and others were written by the AI. This results in OOC moments, especially in James' case, and chaotic energy in general. It's also why my writing style is different since this is mostly AI generated.

I also do not own these franchises or their characters. Silent Hill belongs to KONAMI, Resident Evil belongs to CAPCOM, and Final Fantasy IX and NieR:Automata belong to SQUARE ENIX.

Chapter 7: Tendril Town: Finding the Source

Five days later...

James was checking what resources he and his team had available to take on the tendrils. Who knows how much damage they could have done by now, but they couldn't do anything with an unconscious comrade.

Speaking of Zidane, he woke up after two days and made a full recovery.

Piers was baffled how he hadn't noticed the group getting captured, but was glad that they survived nonetheless.

9S was mostly focused on maintenance and monitoring Zidane's recovery. He also wouldn't leave James alone until his gunshot wound was looked at properly. It turned out, the bullet had been left in, so 9S had to take it out much to James' pain.

James still felt like an idiot, but was trying to change his attitude and even though what they all went through wasn't ideal, he felt that it brought them closer in a weird way.

He looked down at his supplies and nodded before closing his back.

"Is everyone ready?" he asked.

"We're good," said Piers.

James looked up at the sky. It was the beginning of a new day.

"Let's do it," he said.

The group piled into the helicopter with James taking the controls and Piers sitting beside him, while 9S sat in the back with Zidane.

"9S, could you give me the coordinates to the main city?" James asked.

"Sure thing," nodded 9S. "Done. The location should be marked on the GPS."

"Thanks," James focused, as he turned on the engine.

James took off, heading back to the main city. They landed and James stepped out first, while the others followed.

"Well, that wasn't so bad now, was it?" James smiled.

"No one doubted your driving abilities, James, just your leadership," Piers stated, as his eyes scanned the area.

"I don't blame you for that," James mumbled, as he also looked around.

He didn't see any tendrils anymore, but the entire city was in ruins. He didn't see any survivors.

James closed his eyes and took a deep breath, as he tried to sense what was around him. He could feel something, like a presence, but it was faint. James smiled, and concentrated even harder.

"It's close. I can feel it," James said, opening his eyes and smiling.
James strode forward, in the direction the presence was coming from.

The ground began to tremble and before anyone could blink, tendrils erupted from one of the cracks. They were everywhere. Black and slimy, they reached out for the for the group but they were able to dodge.

James turned to run, but before he could move away, one wrapped around his foot. He screamed and jumped away, kicking and flailing.

"James, are you -" Piers didn't get to finish his sentence when he was grabbed by the torso.

He screamed and James ran forward, as the tendril released its grip and flew away.

James pulled out his gun, but there were so many of the black things, that he was having trouble targeting.

"I have an idea!" 9S exclaimed. "We could go underground and find the source."

"How do we get underground?" Zidane asked.

"Explosives could work," 9S replied.

James nodded, as he looked around for anything that could serve as an explosive.

James found a large rock and held it up.

"If I use this, would that count?" James asked.

"Umm... no," 9S folded his arms. "It's just a rock. Didn't you bring anything in your supply bag?"

James shook his head.

"I have an energy drink. Maybe I could use that?" James said, as he reached into his supplies for the energy drink.

"That wouldn't work either," 9S sighed. "Are you sure you don't have a bomb, or something?"

"I might," Piers stated, as he fumbled with his belt. "Here," he said, pulling a grenade off his belt.

James held his hand out, as Piers passed it to him. He pulled the pin out of the grenade and held it to his chest

"James, throw it!" Piers yelled.

James did as he was told, hurling the grenade into the air and running away. He turned and looked around and saw the grenade land in a garbage can, where it started to explode.

The explosion was loud and sudden, and James felt the pressure wave in his face. He shook off the pain and dove behind a dumpster, as the others followed suit.

The explosion was followed by a long silence.

"Well... that was a waste," Zidane deadpanned.

James held his hand up for silence, as he listened for any signs of movement.

"Did you hear that?" he asked.

"Yeah... it's the sound of failure and disappointment," Zidane replied sarcastically. "Thanks a lot."

James glared at him.

"Shut it," James said. "I think I heard something."

James listened carefully, as his keen sense of hearing could pick up the faintest sound. He focused on the sound he had heard, and narrowed it down to one of two places.

He pointed to the north, where a new wall of concrete rose up.

"It was over there," James said.

He stood up.

"Let's go," he said.

They stood and walked to the wall of concrete. James reached out with his senses, trying to feel the presence again. He had no difficulties finding it this time, and he smiled.

James looked around, before focusing on one spot on the ground. He kicked the ground there repeatedly, and before his foot hit the ground, the spot turned into a small hole. James dropped down into it, and found himself in a long, dark hallway. The rest of the group jumped in after him.

James held his hand out for a light, and received one from Piers. He held it up and walked down the hall, with the others close behind him.

"I'm sensing something," James said. "It's faint, but I think it's coming from up this way."

James moved to the right, with the others following him.

"I hear it again," James said. "It's coming from up this way."

James moved to the left, with the rest following.

"It's too faint for me to sense it."

"James, I think I know what you're sensing," 9S said, as he looked around. "The problem is the source is everywhere not in one place."

"What do we do?" Zidane asked.

"Move!" 9S yelled, tackling Zidane to the ground as a tendril shot for him.

Instead, it wrapped itself around Piers' neck.

"Piers!" James cried, as it dragged the man away.

"Follow it!" 9S ordered, as they ran to catch up with the tendril.

It pulled Piers towards a large storage area, where James and the others couldn't follow.

"We have to leave him! What if he's the source?!" James shouted.

"Don't be stupid, he's our comrade!" 9S stated. "Where the tendril took Piers could be the source and we need to destroy that source. Do you understand?"

James lowered his head.

"Yeah," James said.

He looked up at the others.

"Let's go," James said, as they started down the hall to find a way into the storage area.

This chapter took a few attempts to get right. To give you an idea, the AI kept trying to blow up James, use a rock to blow something up, use an energy drink as a bomb, and have Zidane find the cure for the corona virus... I wish I was joking... We got there eventually!

I don't know when I'll post more of this, we'll see. I hope you enjoyed this nonsense so far.

Improvements are appreciated, please tell me what I did right, wrong and how I can improve. If you would like, you could also favourite and follow this fic, as well as suggest areas of improvement, which I guess is the same as the first sentence. R&R and thanks for reading!
