(A/N) The chapter title speaks for itself.

Disclaimer - This story was written with AI Dungeon just for fun, meaning that some stuff was written by me and others were written by the AI. This results in OOC moments, especially in James' case, and chaotic energy in general. It's also why my writing style is different since this is mostly AI generated.

I also do not own these franchises or their characters. Silent Hill belongs to KONAMI, Resident Evil belongs to CAPCOM, and Final Fantasy IX and NieR:Automata belong to SQUARE ENIX.

Chapter 9: This Took a Weird Turn...

Piers sat in the darkness of the tunnel, holding a flare gun. He watched the last of the group disappear down the tunnel, following James.

Piers lowered the gun, sitting in stunned silence. He stared into the darkness, wondering what to do.

"That was a smart move, getting rid of most of the guards," a voice said.

Piers spun around, pressing the gun barrel against his chest.

"Who the hell are you?" he asked.

The figure smiled.

"An interesting question! Do you like riddles?"

"No."

The figure sighed.

"So dull. You're a dull fellow, aren't you?"

"What do you want?" Piers asked.

The figure chuckled.

"I think you know that, don't you?"

"If you're going to kill me, just do it," Piers said, staring into the darkness.

The figure sighed, walking forward.

"If I wanted to kill you, you'd be dead already. I'm not here to kill you."

"Then what do you want?" Piers asked.

The figure stopped, pressing its hands against its hips.

"I want to know what the hell is going on," the figure said. "I've been down here for hours, sitting on my hands and knees, scoping out this hole. What I want to know is, why is a man in a cape throwing goo at me? What is that all about?"

"You're a Ventriloquist?" Piers asked.

"Apparently," the figure said, raising an eyebrow. "So the other you is down here, is he? I'll have to remember not to shoot you by accident. Although I must say, the fact that you're down here baffles me. If you'll allow me to be honest, I don't think I'd be down here if I were you. You're a dull fellow, aren't you?"

"So you don't know who I am? That's impossible."

"Nothing of the sort! I simply meant, I don't understand how you could have gotten yourself into such a predicament. I am here to help you, after all."

The figure reached into its cape, pulling out a small box.

"I have a riddle for you," it said.

James sat with the others, in the darkness of the tunnel. The walls were damp, and James could hear dripping water. There was a foul stench, and James' mouth watered. He glanced at the others, and Zidane huffed out a laugh. James looked at him.

James had a lump in his throat, and his eyes burned. He looked away, blinking rapidly.

"What's brown and sticky?" James asked, forcing himself to speak.

"You are a force to be reckoned with," Zidane said. "I'd better not mess with you."

James nodded.

"I wouldn't say he is, but whatever," 9S sighed. "I'm curious as to what that red goo was..."

"I don't know!" James said, annoyed. "I didn't stick my head in there!"

James turned away, trying to block the image of the two men out of his head.

"But you did, we saw you..."

James turned around. "You saw what you wanted to see. I don't know what that was."

James stood, and headed down the tunnel. After a moment, the others followed.

The group walked for what seemed like hours, when James finally asked a question.

"Who's that dude?" he asked, pointing to the figure following behind them.

"What?" 9S turned around and there was indeed a strange man following them.

"Oh, come on! Give me a break!" Zidane exclaimed, exasperated.

"Oh, you don't recognise me, I'm hurt," the figure laughed. "I've had six of the best friends in the galaxy, and you're the seventh."

James stared at the man, as he finally stepped into the light.

"Chris...?" James gasped in shock. "I thought you were dead..."

"I was," he replied. "But I've been brought back to life, twice now. Once by a vampire, and once by a six-fingered man."

James looked at his companions.

"What's he on about?" 9S asked.

James shrugged.

"Never mind. So, you're a walking dead guy, how'd you happen to be down here anyway?"

"I'm here on a mission," Chris replied.

"To do what exactly?" 9S asked.

"To gain more souls," Chris answered.

James looked at 9S.

"Is this guy nuts?" James asked.

9S turned to Chris.

"That doesn't tell us much, except for the fact you need to be stopped," 9S said.

James nodded.

"And how are we supposed to stop someone who can't even die?" James asked.

"We could try burning him," 9S said.

"I'm right here you know," Chris' grinned, showing his fangs.

"You still haven't told us why you're down here. James may be too dim-witted to ask -"

"Hey!"

" - but it's something we need to know so we can gauge whether you're a threat or not," 9S stated.

"Okay, I'll humour you," Chris grinned wider as he approached the group. "I'm testing how this virus works. I've yet to test whether it's transferable..."

James looked at 9S and nodded.

"We get it," James said. "Go on."

"Well, the virus is quite... simple," Chris said. "It can create real life vampires, if you want I can give you a demonstration."

James nodded, watching as Chris grabbed Zidane, who struggled in his grip.

"Are you sure?" Chris asked as he caressed the blonde's neck.

"No, let him go!" 9S shouted.

But Chris ignored him, grinning. "He'll be a good addition to our kind," he said.

9S drew his sword. "Let him go!"

"Kid, chill," Chris said. "It's a gift."

With that he bit into Zidane's neck.

"You bastard!" 9S yelled as he ran at Chris with his sword.

James watched in confusion.

"Hey now!" James said. "There's no need for violence. We're all friends here."

"James just shut up, I've had enough!" 9S snapped. "Zidane's bleeding and you don't even care!"

"I do..."

"You don't seem like you do..." 9S trailed off.

James held up a hand.

"Look, it's clear the two of you don't see eye to eye. I'll leave you be," James said. "I have a date with a six-fingered man."

9S' jaw clenched. "What are you talking about?!"

"I don't know," James shrugged.

"Did you forget about me?" Chris growled, grabbing 9S from behind. "Just a tip, don't talk to someone else during combat."

"Okay," James held his hands up. "You're taking it too far now, Chris."

"I'm just getting started," Chris grinned. "James, you need to step back. I'm unsure what happens if the virus interacts with an android."

James did as he was told.

James looked at 9S, who glared at him.

"Actually Chris, I'm not interested, let him go," James said.

"And what if I don't?" Chris sneered, tightening his grip on 9S who winced.

"Well, I'll have to kill you," James said.

"And how will you do that?" Chris asked.

James stared at him, a long moment of silence passing. That moment was broken by James' fist connecting with Chris' jaw. The force of the blow knocked the vampire out, and he dropped to his knees, dropping 9S in the process.

"Are you okay?" James asked.

9S shook his head, picking up Zidane. "He needs medical attention before he bleeds out," he said, walking into the shadows.

James stared dumbfounded.

"What was that about?" James asked, rubbing the back of his head.

Yeah, so the AI has introduced vampires into the story... From what I've seen, the AI likes to do this eventually.

Improvements are appreciated, please tell me what I did right, wrong and how I can improve. If you would like, you could also favourite and follow this fic, as well as suggest areas of improvement, which I guess is the same as the first sentence. R&R and thanks for reading!
