(A/N) This messy saga continues. I think it gets a bit angsty at points from here on out.
Disclaimer - This story was written with AI Dungeon just for fun, meaning that some stuff was written by me and others were written by the AI. This results in OOC moments, especially in James' case, and chaotic energy in general. It's also why my writing style is different since this is mostly AI generated.
I also do not own these franchises or their characters. Silent Hill belongs to KONAMI, Resident Evil belongs to CAPCOM, and Final Fantasy IX and NieR:Automata belong to SQUARE ENIX.
Chapter 12: Time to Flee
James awoke the next morning and stared at the ceiling of his bedroom. He looked at the alarm clock on the nightstand: 5:30. He groaned, rolled over, and went back to sleep.
He awoke again just before noon and did the same thing. By evening, James was still lying on his back, staring at the ceiling. He didn't get up because he felt too horrible. The day before just wouldn't go away.
James rose from the bed and went to the bathroom. He splashed water on his face, and stared in the mirror. His eyes were red and puffy, his nose red and runny. James sniffled and wiped at his eyes. He stared at his reflection.
"You're disgusting." He muttered. He wiped at his face again. "This isn't you."
James looked at his reflection for a while longer. It was just a mirror, but it looked to James like this was some sort of demonic reflection. James shook his head and turned away from the mirror. He went back to his bedroom and sat on the bed.
James leaned his head back on the pillow and fell back asleep.
He awoke to someone knocking on the front door. James walked to the door, unlatched it, and opened it. Three men stood on the other side. James took a step backwards.
"Hello, James," a familiar looking man said with a forced smile. "Remember me? It's Derek Simmons."
James went to reach for his gun, but noticed that it wasn't there. Taking a deep breath, he forced a stern expression.
"What do you want?" he asked.
"Well, it has come to my attention that one of my boys has sired one of your boys," Simmons explained, his smile widening. "We came to get him."
"No you don't," James wore a smug smirk of his own. "9S is working on a vaccine as we speak, so Zidane won't be infected for long."
"9S? That's the boy - no, the android - who hacked into my security system, right?" Simmons paused to laugh meniacally. "I think I'll take him too, he could be of some use."
"You're not getting either of them!" James yelled, blocking his hallway as best as he could.
"Oh, I will," he gave a disgusting smirk as he gestured for his two men to enter the building.
James didn't have time to react before he was hit with the back of a gun.
"9S, run!" he yelled from the top of his lungs, hoping that he was heard.
Through his blurred vision, he could see Simmons slowly approaching him. The last thing he heard before he passed out was...
"Bye, James..."
James woke up in a bed, staring at the ceiling. He blinked a few times in confusion. Where was he? He sat up and looked around.
He wasn't in his room, that much was certain. It looked like a room in a wooden cabin or something.
He panicked.
Simmons was in his house. He wanted to capture his friends. Shit!
"9S! Zidane!"
James stood and was overwhelmed with dizziness. He pushed forward, grabbing the door handle. He had to try and find them.
Opening the door, he was met with a dining area all made of wood and a sight that put him at ease. By the wooden dining table sat 9S, engrossed in his laptop. He didn't look hurt.
James let out a sigh of relief. "9S!"
The boy jumped, startled, as he quickly turned to look at James. He stood up and waved.
"Hey," he said with a small smile. His smile wavered when he noticed the tears coming from James' eyes. "Are you -"
He didn't get to finish his sentence as James rushed over to him and pulled him into a tight hug, surprising him.
"I'm glad that you're okay," James said softly, as his tears continued to fall.
9S was lost for words. He'd never seen James in this state before.
"James..." he sighed, returning the hug.
Eventually, James pulled back and wiped the tears from his eyes.
"What about Zidane? The vaccine?" he asked.
"Zidane is okay," 9S smiled. "He's in that room over there," he pointed to the door next to the one James came out of. "I've also created the vaccine and administered it, so all we have to do is wait for it to work."
"And Simmons and his men? They were after Zidane... and you..."
"Yeah, they were," he nodded. "I heard you and put the lab in lock down, grabbed the vaccine and Zidane, and fled here," he explained. "I came back for you later."
James sighed with relief. "I'm just glad you're both okay..."
After a brief silence, James asked, "What happens now?"
"Well," 9S said. "We need to stop Simmons since he's actively pursuing us now."
"Yeah..." James nodded. "And how do we do that?"
"I placed a tracker on the back of his vehicle before I ran here, so I know where he is at all times," 9S said with a smirk. "We'll confront him once Zidane recovers."
James smiled. "Sounds like a plan."
"I'll go get him," James said, getting up. "You stay here and watch Zidane."
"Oh, James..." 9S shook his head. "Be patient, you can't face him alone."
"I just don't want you both getting hurt," James said. "It's my fault he knows of us anyway..."
"Yeah, but it's not worth losing your life over," 9S told him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Besides, I'm the one tracking him."
James looked down. "Can I trust you to do what's necessary?"
9S nodded. "I've been doing it this long."
"Yeah," James looked up with a smile. "Thank you, Nines."
9S stared with his jaw agape. "Nines? But my name's -"
"It's a nickname," James stated. "I'm familiar enough with you to give you one."
"Oh..."
"Let's take your advice and wait," James said, sitting down on one of the chairs. "Do you want to show me what you were doing on your laptop, Nines?"
9S nodded. "Sure."
I can't lie, I screamed when the AI had James call 9S "Nines." Both funny and cute, I guess. I'm kind of miffed where the AI is trying to go with this story. Of course, I'm steering it too and making sure it's somewhat coherent, but man...
Improvements are appreciated, please tell me what I did right, wrong and how I can improve. If you would like, you could also favourite and follow this fic, as well as suggest areas of improvement, which I guess is the same as the first sentence. R&R and thanks for reading!
