(A/N) 13, the (un)lucky number. There's nothing to say right now.

Disclaimer - This story was written with AI Dungeon just for fun, meaning that some stuff was written by me and others were written by the AI. This results in OOC moments, especially in James' case, and chaotic energy in general. It's also why my writing style is different since this is mostly AI generated.

I also do not own these franchises or their characters. Silent Hill belongs to KONAMI, Resident Evil belongs to CAPCOM, and Final Fantasy IX and NieR:Automata belong to SQUARE ENIX.

Chapter 13: The Hunt Begins

Three days later...

It had taken a lot of patience for James not to run out and hunt down Simmons, but he restrained himself for his friends. Another reason was he didn't even know where the man was and 9S wasn't going to give him the location in case he left and got himself hurt.

Zidane had also woken up. He was somewhat fine, he was still a little groggy, but at least he wasn't a vampire thanks to 9S. Speaking of the boy, he was typing away on his laptop while James watched, intrigued. It was fascinating how little Simmons moved on the trackers display making him wonder what he was up to.

"Do you think we should go now?" James asked.

9S closed his laptop and sighed.

"It depends on how Zidane is feeling," he replied. "We can't just leave him here."

James nodded. "You have a point."

James glanced around. "How are we going to go about this?"

"We just ask him how he's feeling," 9S said. "If he's feeling up for it we go, if not we have to stay a little while longer."

James nodded. "I like the way you think."

"I try," 9S said, smiling.

Two days later...

James and 9S sat outside. James was about to speak, but 9S beat him to it.

"So, do you think Zidane's up for it?"

"I'm not sure, I haven't asked him," James replied. "But we can't afford to wait any longer, we're running out of time."

"I know," 9S nodded. "I'll go and ask him."

"You don't have to, I'm here."

The pair turned to see Zidane stood in the doorway with a rucksack over his shoulder.

"Hey, Zidane," 9S waved. "How are you feeling?"

"Better," he nodded.

"And I see you're ready to go?" James said.

"Yeah."

"Well, let's get going then," James stood up and began to walk to the car, but stopped when he noticed Zidane walking in the opposite direction. "Zidane, where are you going? he asked.

"To look for Piers," Zidane replied. "He's still missing, so I'm gonna look for him while you guys do your thing."

"But Zidane, you can't -" 9S was interrupted by James placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Nines, I think he can handle himself," he said.

"But James, he can't go alone," 9S tried to argue.

Zidane smiled. "Don't worry, I'll be back in a couple of chapters... Nines."

"Okay," 9S nodded. "Be safe, okay. Promise me."

"I promise," Zidane nodded back at him, before looking at James. "See you around, James."

With that he turned around and left, leaving the pair alone.

"Okay, Nines, let's get Simmons," James said, approaching the car.

"Yeah," 9S followed. "The sooner we get this done, the sooner we can catch up with Zidane."

James nodded, as he and 9S got in the car and drove away.

I remembered that Piers was still MIA and someone had to look for him. It's also easier to work with two characters.

Improvements are appreciated, please tell me what I did right, wrong and how I can improve. If you would like, you could also favourite and follow this fic, as well as suggest areas of improvement, which I guess is the same as the first sentence. R&R and thanks for reading!
