It's backā¦
I'm happy to return to this story after such a long period, and after farming out well over 100 levels in the last season of Destiny 2, I'm loving the game and it's universe, and I want to start writing this again.
Let's go.
3 MILES OUTSIDE OF THE LAST CITY
EARTH
SOL SYSTEM
Maria peered through the scope of her Vectis Prime rifle, her attention focused entirely on the city. She stood atop a cliff, far outside the city, and far beyond being visible to the unknowing inhabitants of the Last City of Earth. She had made a few observations, even this far out. The colossal walls surrounding the city implied there was a danger great enough to force this species to the point they were barely holding on, one city being the difference between survival and extinction. The massive cannons lining the wall also supported this theory.
Maria could also see barely visible shadows walking across the top of the wall, humanoid in form.
'Guards, no doubt.' Maria mused to herself.
Lowering her rifle, Maria sat back and got ready to move, meaning to get even closer to the city. Turning back to her K-Drive, the Ivara warframe stood on the contraption, and pushed forward. Blazing across the various pathways the mountains that towered above the city held. She even jumped across massive gaps in the mountains, assured that her Warframe and K-Drive could easily withstand the force of landing if needed.
HALL OF GUARDIANS
EARTH
SOL SYSTEM
Vanna barged into the Hall of Guardians, pushing a technician aside with only a murmur of apology. Removing her helmet, she held it by her side as she walked over to the center table where the Vanguard resided.
A faint trace of a smirk on her face appeared as she faced Cayde who, as usual, looked like he wanted to be anywhere else in the world than in the Tower.
"Well, what is so important that my scouting expedition had to be cut short?" Vanna made a darting look towards Cayde as she spoke.
A light chuckle emanated from the Exo, "Listen, Vanna, we've got a big signal coming from far beyond the system, even beyond the Reef. Something out there is big and we figured you and your fireteam wanted first crack at it."
"And you're sure it has nothing to do with the fact that my fireteam is the only one to return from the Vault of Glass. Alive, anyways." The female hunter replied dryly.
Cayde just shrugged, "The details aren't important. Look," Cayde pointed to a map in the center of the table, "Just right there, at the edge of the system, a massive signature appeared. I mean, this thing was big. According to Ikora, it's going to make Oryx's Dreadnaught look like a goddamn toy."
The female Hunter shrugged, crossed her arms, and leaned against the wall, "So send in Fireteam Osiris. While I don't agree with naming yourself after an exiled Guardian, they've shown incredible promise. What do you need us for?"
Zavala spoke up, for the first time in the entire meeting, "Fireteam Osiris is currently indisposed with another assignment. Besides, we aren't sure if they are an enemy or not. Sending a team of three Titans who tend to start more fights than finish would beā¦counterintuitive."
Vanna let out a long sigh, before slowly nodding. "Fine. I'll do it. I can't stay long, relay a message to my Fireteam to meet at the Reef. I'm gonna go have Banshee look over my weapons."
And with that, the meeting was over. Vanna hurried her way out of the Hall of Guardians and over to Banshee, dropping her weapons on the Vendor's table, and handing over a sizeable pile of Glimmer. Without a word, Banshee nodded and took the Glimmer and began the process of stripping her various weapons, cleaning and repairing them.
THE 'SHOOTING STAR'
5AU BEYOND THE SOL SYSTEM
An endless void stretched, beyond the horizon and into the infinite abyss. Gray blocks dotted an empty, white landscape. Yet, it was not all barren. Inside the void, was a single platform, pillars raising from the landscape, towering above all.
On this platform stood two humanoid figures, one Mesa Prime Warframe, and one Volt.
The Mesa was the first to speak, "Alright, James, you've got a lot of combat experience under your belt. Not as much as us, mind you, but enough to make a large difference between a freshly-awakened Tenno and yourself. However, you are only familiar with the weapons you managed to scavenge when you woke up."
As he said this, he pulled out a large object. It was a sword, the blade resting inside a sheath.
He spoke, pulling the blade free from its sheath, "This is a Nikana, one of the most reliable and deadly weapons we have in our arsenal. Sure, it may not look like much, but this is our bread and butter as a warrior. Elegant, yet strong. Graceful, yet devastating. A weapon to keep the peace, or to wage war on our enemies. This weapon will be yours, once you master it."
Tossing the standard Nikana to the Volt, the Mesa Prime grabbed their own, the sheath resting aside their hip. With a sharp motion, the Nikana was ripped from its sheath as the Mesa instantly went on the offensive. The Volt was not prepared for this, but also sprung into action. Blade met blade as the two clashed. The sound of metal could be heard, the blades crashing against one another as both sides struggled to gain the upper hand. The Volt was planted, focused, while the Mesa was nimble, using her agility to freely move around her opponent, poking their defenses for an opening.
The fight would not last long, as the Mesa Prime moved her guard, crashing the hilt against the Volt's faceplate, before making a swift strike. At the end, the Volt was left on his knees, a Nikana against his throat.
A chuckle came from the Mesa, "Well, I wasn't expecting you to win, but you did good. You've got a lot to learn, so let's take it from the top."
I'll be honest, I have a lot of issues with this chapter, but after sitting in my documents since before Witch Queen dropped, I decided to release it anyways. It might feel like I sharply dropped the story off here, which I did, but honestly couldn't come up with a natural-feeling ending and decided to leave it here.
I'll hopefully have a new chapter sooner rather than later.
