welcome to chapter twenty-one of my newly revised and still my first ever Marissonshipping fanfiction, 'The Heartless Timing of Life'. this chapter is a real whopper at a full-on one-thousand-one-hundred-sixty-one words worth of storyline and another thirty-one words which make up a comment from yours truly under the guise of an author's note hidden amongst the storyline of this chapter in 'The Heartless Timing of Life'. fortunately for the blogging standards for which I've set myself, it means that I do not even need to include this here headnote or the mandatory disclaimer that is the following paragraph. it's not like they would be included in the storyline for the fanfiction, anyway.
disclamation: I don't own the 'Pokémon' anime in any way, shape, or form. I'm afraid that the ownership rights of that, the manga, and the games are reserved for Satoshi Tajiri and the folks of the Nintendo Gaming Company. yes, I know that the creator of 'Pokémon' has the same name as Ash Ketchum's name in the raw Japanese dub is. I don't even own this fanfiction's own storyline. the storyline for this very fanfiction has been inspired by a tween-friendly Korean cartoon under the series title of 'Flowering Heart'.
Back at her real parents' Hibiscus Guest House, Mairin had finally awoken from her slip up turned into an unconscious fainting from her dizziness. She had a warm washcloth covering her forehead and her vision was a bit blurry
Mairin's thoughts: I don't have time to rest. Someone needs to go get Yvonne and stop her from doing anything to drastic.
Later, on the beach, Mairin started to look around for Yvonne to stop her from doing anything too drastic.
Mairin: Yvonne! Yvonne! Where are you, Yvonne?!
It was then that Mairin noticed something floating on the surface of the ocean water. It was a summer hat, and it was not just any summer hat.
Mairin: That's the hat Yvonne was wearing this afternoon. What if she dropped it into the ocean? What if she fell into the ocean? I better go in after her, or at least get her hat back for her.
Mairin did not notice it, but she had dropped the very PokéPuff basket which she got as a gift from Serena after the Kalos league for Mairin to remember the honey-blonde girl by. Mairin tried to go after Yvonne's hat, but…
Mairin: The hat keeps floating away.
Meanwhile on a nearby dock at the beach front, Jean Paul was taking some pictures of the ocean of Solaris Island with his beloved PokéNav camera.
Jean Paul: It is so beautiful. Uncle Pierre would love to host a Pokémon Showcase on an island like Solaris. I better make sure to get plenty of pictures.
Meanwhile back on the beach, Alain got wind of Mairin going out to look for Yvonne earlier from Professor Sycamore.
He flashed back to what they had told him about her along the way there.
Alain: What do you mean Mairin just left to go look for Yvonne? Didn't you tell her that I had everything under control?
Professor Sycamore: I tried to tell her, but she left to look for Yvonne anyway before I could fully explain. I'm sorry, Alain.
Alain: Mairin. I just can't leave her alone for one minute without her going out of her way to do something drastic whenever there's trouble afoot. I'll be right back as soon as I get Mairin and bring her back to the beach house after I find her.
With that, his flashback came to an end.
Alain: Mairin! Mairin! Mairin, where are you?!
It was then that Alain noticed something in the sand, something that looked a lot like…
Alain: This is Mairin's PokéPuff basket, the one she told me she got from Serena as a present to remember her by. Mairin wouldn't dare go anywhere without it. Something must've happened to Mairin. Wherever she is, Mairin must be nearby.
Suddenly, Alain heard someone call out for help.
It was a girl's voice.
Girl's voice: Someone, please help me!
And when he saw exactly who it was and where they were by then, Alain suddenly grew pale in the face. It was none other than…
Alain: Mairin! What is she doing out there in the water? I have to help.
Mairin continued to struggle with swimming and a hat floated to the surface of the water.
Mairin's thoughts: Somebody, please help me. I can't hold on much longer.
Suddenly, someone came into view of Mairin's line of vision…
Mairin's thoughts: Someone's coming. Who is that?
… right before Mairin completely blacked out from the oceanic current.
A little later back on the beach, whoever had rescued Mairin had also brought her to the safety of the shore.
Male voice: Mairin. Mairin.
It was Alain. He was soaked to the bone in his clothing from that day.
Alain: Wake up, Mairin. Come on.
Alain continued to press onto Mairin's chest, trying to revive her. Mairin just remained absolutely still, though, while not even breathing.
Alain (continued): She's not breathing. I have to act fast.
Alain's brain: There's only one way I can save Mairin, now.
Alain plugged Mairin's nose and bent down towards her lips to deliver CPR to her. Afterwards, Mairin suddenly started to cough up the rest of the water which had embedded itself within her lungs.
Alain (continued): Are you OK, now?
Alain felt Mairin's skin and grew alarmed.
Alain (continued): You're freezing cold, Mairin.
Then, Alain held Mairin in his arms.
Alain (continued): I need to get you warm, get your core temperature up.
Alain was successful in getting Mairin a little warmer, and he even tried shaking her a bit in an attempt to wake her up.
Alain (continued): Wake up, Mairin. Open your eyes. Come on, Mairin.
But then, Alain heard something or someone coming towards the two of them. He decided to hide himself and Mairin from whomever it was just in case they were some kind of stalker out on the prowl. It did not work out so well since Mairin once again coughed out the rest of the water within her lungs.
Alain could not risk being spotted by any possible ex-cohort of Lysander since he knew that more than half of them all were secretly still out there. Alain knew that Mairin would have less of a chance at being valuable to them, so he left her there. He immediately regret it in more ways than one, however, when the so-called 'stalker' turned out to merely be Monsieur Pierre's nephew, Jean Paul.
Jean Paul: Mairin? Mairin! What happened to you? Wake up, Mairin.
Mairin opened her eyes just in time to spot the Monsieur Pierre's dreamy blonde-haired, blue-eyed nephew, Jean Paul. She also wound-up thinking that it was Jean Paul who had saved her from drowning in the ocean.
Mairin: Jean Paul.
Jean Paul held Mairin up with his grip on her.
Jean Paul: Mairin, are you alright? Can you hear me?
Mairin: O-oh, Jean Paul. How did you find…
Jean Paul put his hands onto Mairin's shoulders.
Jean Paul: Your body's freezing cold. We better get you back to your aunt and uncle's beach house. Come aboard. You may hop up on my back until we get there.
Jean Paul and Mairin were so caught up in getting her back to the guest house that they passed right by where Alain was still hiding and did not even notice him.
Alain: I'm just relieved that Mairin's OK and safe.
Later, on the way back to the Hibiscus Beach House, Jean Paul had been carrying Mairin back to her parents, and she blushed.
Mairin's thoughts: O-oh, did Jean Paul rescue me from drowning in the ocean?
A/N: Yeah, that's why he's completely dry and not soaked to the bone like somebody would've been if they actually HAD rescued you from drowning in the ocean at all, Mairin.
Mairin's thoughts (continued): This is like a dream. I wish time would stand still in this very moment.
Mairin was brought back to the beach house by Jean Paul. Raymond and Kimberly greeted them at the front door. Mairin looked so happy after Jean Paul left, she looked like she was now in love with him. She even squealed at the thought of him having brought her home.
