Before you all begin reading this. I would like to make some announcements. Regarding Hiccup and Toothless being added to the story, i would like to make a few changes to the storyline. If you could all add some ideas to your reviews please, i would be most grateful. Also in my opinion, I felt the pace of the movie was a bit too quick, there wasn't enough character development for some characters and also I felt the movie was missing some very valuable moral lessons such as someone can only trust someone if they're worthy of it. If you have disagreements with it but that's what I'd like to do to the story. I really hope you enjoy this first chapter. Please feel free to send out your opinions.
The Land of Kumandra
A young Night Fury flew across the clear sky carrying a lone rider. Two little dragons flew beside them, a Smokebreath and a Terrible Terror.
Now I know what you're thinking. A skinny Viking riding across the sky on a Night Fury with two little dragons beside him. What is he doing out here? Why isn't he with his clan or riding on a Viking ship. Well it all started five years ago.
My name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock. Or Hiccup as everyone calls me. I lived on the Island of Berk. I was despised and bullied, unwanted. Unlike all the other teenagers, I was weak. I was skinny. I could barely lift a sword. All my life I tried my very best to prove myself to my father Stoick the Vast, who was stronger and the perfect example of a noble chief of Berk. Yes, you got it. I'm the heir to the throne. But not in everyone else's eyes. All my life I have strived to prove myself to him.
For over seven generations we have been at war with dragons. One night I took down the deadliest of them all, a Night Fury. Nobody believed me of course. I went out into the forest, and I found it. I was ready to kill it, to finally prove I was a true Viking. But the strangest thing was, I couldn't kill it. It was just as scared as I was.
I set it free and to my surprise, it spared my life. Over time I visited it, wondering why such a creature who my kind believed to be a killer, would do such a thing. As we developed a deep friendship and began to trust each other, I realised that dragons weren't the monsters Vikings thought they were, that we could live in peace and harmony together.
During that time I had been learning out to kill dragons and thanks to all the cool tricks I learnt from that dragon who I named Toothless, I had excelled to the final class, the change to kill the ultimate enemy of my people, the Monstrous Nightmare. Rather than kill it, I decided to train it, finally prove to everyone how wrong we are about dragons. But when I tried and failed because they didn't trust what I was doing, my dragon risked his life to protect me, to save me.
I was left with no choice but to leave Berk forever, taking Toothless with me, the only creature who cared for me, trusted me, believed in me more than my own people ever had. We became best friends over the next five years, eventually finding little friends along the way. Since then we have been finding a place where we can live in peace. A place to call home.
Hiccup stared down at the earth below with his spyglass, seeing nothing but sea. He huffed. "Nothing but sea, sea, sea!" he groaned.
Smokey and Sharpshot growled in annoyance.
"I know guys," he sighed feeling sorry for them as they were getting tired. "But we'll find somewhere soon, right bud?" he patted his dragon's head.
Toothless roared in approval. Unlike the two little dragons, he could fly for very long periods of time, so he had a more heightened motivation to keep on going. He peered down, searching carefully for even the smallest mass of land to camp on.
Just then he roared, and he stopped flying.
"What is it bud?" his rider asked.
Toothless dove down. Hiccup clung on tight. The little dragons chased after them. Once they had managed to clear through a huge mass of clouds, Toothless spread out his wings and they stopped dive bombing.
"Woah. What was that bud?" his rider questioned; his head exhausted from the diving. His reply back was his dragon's head pointing downwards. Hiccup peered down. Down below, he saw a large mass of land with a large mass of water that seemed to stretch across the centre. The strangest thing was the river was shaped like a long snake with four legs, a long tail that split out into several tributaries and long snout at the end with a pointy fang and horn.
"Wow. Not something you see every day do you bud," Hiccup breathed out.
Smokey and Sharpshot finally caught up to them. Their eyes enlarged when they saw what lay below them.
"Seems like we found our place to camp for the night," Hiccup said. "We just have to camp somewhere where we won't attract attention," he scratched his chin. "Let's head…that way!" he pointed towards the long thin line of river that looked like a tail of the serpentine creature.
Opening out his arms, he let Smokey and Sharpshot fly into them. Then he clung on tight to the pommel of the saddle. Folding his wings again, Toothless went into a powerful power-dive and he plunged down towards the mysterious land below. The closer they came to the area of land far below, the more magnified it became to Hiccup. The tail part of the river turned brown and yellow as he felt the air flying into his face.
With a sudden whoosh, Toothless slowed down again and they took one last look at the land below. It was still brown and yellow, a desert.
"Not quite the best spot," Hiccup said. "Probably might want to head to a bit of forest,"
Sharpshot chirped and pointed his head west. Hiccup looked and saw the border where the green dense forest turned into desert. "Good spot Sharpshot," he scratched the little dragon's chin and he cooed.
Toothless flew to the forest area and landed. The moment Hiccup dismounted him, settling the little exhausted dragons onto the ground, he collapsed off his feet onto the soft ground, taking a moment to catch his breath.
Hiccup went to his basket-rucksack attached to the saddle's cantle and pulled out a bowl and a flask of water. He poured all the water into the bowel for his dragons before consuming the rest. The three dragons lapped down the cool water, refreshing their systems.
The young Viking stared out at the great mass of desert laid out before them. "I don't know where we are guys…but this sure isn't part of the Archipelago anymore,"
Smokey and Sharpshot chirped, waddling over to his legs. Hiccup smiled and stroked their heads.
"Where do you suppose we are?" Toothless warbled.
Even though he couldn't understand the tongue of dragons, Hiccup had a strange way of understanding them. "I don't know bud. We'll scout this place but now…it's time we camped here for the night,"
"You're telling us," Sharpshot stretched his legs and yawned.
Night fell over their heads only a few hours later and Hiccup had caught some fish for all of them at the river. He toasted his fish over a fire whilst his dragons gobbled their meals down with hunger. Soon after they all yawned and they were all tired to even move let alone speak.
"Goodnight guys," Hiccup pulled off his cape and wrapped it into a pillow. He rested his dreary head on the soft material and laid down. He saw Sharpshot and Smokey already lying down and beginning to snore. "Come on guys,"
They opened their eyes and saw Hiccup offering arms. They jumped for joy and snuggled into his arms. Hiccup hugged them close to his chest like dragon toys. He then closed eyes and dreamed about his deceased mother. Toothless's large broad wing then spread over them like a soft blanket keeping him warm. They fell asleep, requiring the long night of needful rest.
What did you all think? Soon Hiccup's going to meet Raya. What do you think their meeting should be like? Please send ideas. I would love some inspiration. Get ready for the next one. I'll wait a week first before I start the next one. See ya!
