Flashback

Kazuto woke up feeling refreshed at 6 AM. He tried to go back to sleep but couldn't due to his jitters because in a few hours he would be an official scout. He laid on his bed, Last night was pretty awkward

It was dinner time at the Kirigaya household. Midori was preparing the dinner. While Minetaka was reading the local newspaper.

"Kazu dear can you get Sugu?"

"What, why me?" he sighed "You know she seems to hate me for some reason now."

"It's just a phase, Kazu she's in highschool."

"Really now, You think I would be like this if I didn't dropout?" He muttered sarcastically his Uncle gave him a death stare that said 'don't you dare talk to my wife like that'

"Kazuto!"

"Uncle, can you do It?"

He peeks his head up for a bit "I'm busy"

"Busy with what?" He looked at him with confusion. "Reading a newspaper?" He added a sarcastic tone to it but it seemed like it had no effect on his uncle.

"Yes, now go before I teach you a lesson."

He sighed in frustration, "Fine." He got up and passed the living room and went up the stairs entering the hallway where the bedrooms were. The first door was his room. The room at the end was the master bedroom across from it on the other end was the storage room. He walked up to the second door and knocked on it, no response.

"Sugu, dinner will be ready soon."

No response.

Did I do something wrong?

He went back downstairs and sat on a chair at the kitchen table.

"Foods ready!"

Minetaka put his newspaper away and had an excited expression on his face.

"What are we having today dearie?"

"Salmon."

He couldn't help but lick his lips as he prepared to grab his utensils from the table. Midori gave him a look.

"OI!"

He jumped a little, dropping his utensils. Minetaka was an MP captain. He witnessed death and other horrible things everyday and they don't scare him except his wife. Kazuto snickered at his reaction.

"Yes, dearie?" He spoke like a scared child

"Do not eat until Sugha is here, you know the rule" He grumbled in defeat and crossed his arms in defeat, pouting like a baby.

A rule Midori kept is that you cannot eat until everyone is seated and ready to eat.

A stupid one at that. Kazuto dared not say that out loud or he would get the beating of his life. A light thumping could be heard from behind which means they could finally eat.

"I'm here mum, what are we having?"

"Salmon."

She sat down and they ate. Minetaka decided to start a nice conversation.

"So Sugu, how's school?"

"Good."

"Bet you have a lot of fun playing with your friends." Kazuto chimed in

At this she hesitated "Yep…"

"So Kazu, how was your training at the cadet corps?" Midori asked

"Good.."

He looked down in shame.

"What's the matter Kazu?"

"I don't think I did well or good enough.."

Mintaka scoffed at this, "Top cadet ain't everything." Kazuto looked at him intently listening to him

"Sure you may not have gotten top cadet, but that doesn't always determine a good soldier."

"What do you mean?"

"You have to find your own answer" He started chomping on his food like he never said anything.

He's right about that.

He stretched his arms and got up, went downstairs and started his workout first then he went back to his room. Kazuto started studying to get his G.E.D. Math was completed as he studied & passed that exam last year. When training got a little easier and had more frequent free time.

Who knows maybe after the titans are wiped out, i'll attend school maybe?

Kazuto opened a science textbook; he would've done this when he was in

highschool but joined the military instead. Using Sugu's old science notes he used it to help him study and complete some practice problems on his own.

Scribbling away at his notebook. It would look like someone wrote gibberish but he could read it and that's all that mattered to him. Some of them were easy, some of them were hard.

Stretching his arms he was now going to take a break maybe come back to it never preferably. He looked at the clock and it was now eight a.m. Graduation was at six p.m. realizing he studied for 2 hours straight. Suddenly there was a knock at the door.

"Come in."

The door opened

"Hey whatcha doing?"

"Just finished studying."

Kazuto sighed and stretched again.

"You look like you need a stretch."

"Yea.." he leaned back and yawned. "...that's what sitting in a wooden chair will do to you after two hours."

"Come to the basement."

"Why? I already did my exercises."

"I want to spar you."

"Uh ok."

Kazuto got up and followed him to the basement. Let's just say Kazuto got rocked by his Uncle. He did learn a few things though which was the main point of it. When they were done, luckily Midori was cooking some breakfast when they were up.

"Hey boys, I am making some scrambled eggs in an hour."

"Sounds good, sweetheart."

They both went towards the kitchen but stopped when Midori spoke.

"First you have to shower, no one enters my kitchen smelling like a gym rat." They both groaned and looked at each other. They had to go to a public shower. Which would be full at this time.

"Race ya there." Minetaka said and beat Kazuto to the bathroom.

Kazuto ended up waiting twenty minutes for his Uncle to finish showering and read a book called 'Theories Of The Outside World.' It was illegal if caught with it so he had a false cover on it. No one knew about it except him and his Uncle who gave it to him for his 12th birthday. There was this one theory that there are other walls outside of Wall Maria where other humans reside but did not have contact with them due to the threat of titans.

Or maybe we truly are the last of humanity?

"Hey champ, the shower is free." A voice cut in.

"Ok" He gave his book to his uncle to take home.

Walking to the bathroom, closing the door behind him. He undressed and took care of his business. He then got dressed thinking about his mother and as he was leaving he bumped into someone which resulted in her falling down a femenine voice called out a bit angrily

"Hey watch where you're goin-..." She finally looked up "Kirito…I'm sorry.."

He chuckled "It was my fault for bumping into you…I was lost in thought…" His hair was still a bit wet.

"What were you thinking about..?" he looked away

"Nothing…"

"Well anyways I'd like to meet your family...sometime.."

"Uh huh.." he said hoping to change the subject

"Look, Kirito..you can speak to me I won't judge.."

He widened his eyes noting the time "I'm gonna be late and he walked past her…" while waving back at her.

While she was staring at him she remembered a time in the cadet corps, when they first started dating.

Kazuto was on his bed thinking about that day his mother was eaten.

Suddenly a knock on his door

"...KAZUTO!"

"Ah Sachi, what are you doing in the boys barracks?"

"It's free time." As she said that she plopped herself on the left side on the bed next to him

"Watcha doin?" she inquired.

"Nothing…just thinkin bout stuff" He looked the other way hoping she wouldn't ask anymore.

"Like what?"

He couldn't say anything so Sachi spoke

"You know when the time comes I'd love to meet your mom."

His eyes seemed to get sadder and he whispered "Well you can't…"

Sachi heard him and said and raised her voice a little "Why are you embarrassed of me?"

"No it's not that…"

"Then what is it?"

"She's dea-" Kazuto stopped himself and Sachi was horrified; she forgot Midori was his Aunt not his mother and felt horrible for bringing up a bad memory.

She felt bad, "I'm a horrible girlfriend."

"No you are not, you just forgot"

She started to tear up "But- I made you remember…" As she was wiping her tears away "...something painful."

He kissed her forehead, "It's okay you didn't mean too." He laid down on the bed and grabbed her and laid her next to him. They were hugging each other

"I'm sorry…"

"Like I said you didn't mean too…"

He heard no response and looked at her. She seemed to fall asleep besides him and he followed her example shortly after.

They all sat down and started to eat. As always Sugu was quiet due to her 'phase.' So Midori decided to make some small talk.

"So today's your big day Kazu, how do you feel?"

"Nervous more than anything."

"I see, so which branch are you joining?"

He hesitated before answering "The Scouts."

Expecting to get a scolding from his aunt but the unexpected happened instead.

"Ok, but remember…"

It was now noon.

Kazuto went out for a stroll since there was nothing to do. The city center was bustling or as Kazuto would like to say 'Business is boomin.' As he was walking he bumped into someone.

"Ow, I'm sorry."

"Kazuto?"

"Sachi?"

"Hey" she said as she stood back up dusting off her shirt.

"What are you doing here?"

"I just got bored, you?"

"Same."

There was now an awkward silence. It's now or never Kazuto.

"Since…" his voice trailed off.

"Yes?"

"...we both have nothing to do, let's go somewhere..?"

She smiled. "Are you asking me out?"

Kazuto hesitated for a moment. "Was it that obvious?"

"No, not really." Sachi replied, walking along nonchalantly. After a few steps, she turned to Kazuto.

"Sure, I will."

Kazuto looked at her doubtingly.

"You know what I mean." Sachi nudged him gently by the shoulder.

And so the couple walked together in silence. There were a few exchanges occasionally, but the midday sun had taken its time to rise. It was only natural to enjoy the moment and Kazuto didn't complain at all. For a moment they stopped and looked at the sun, just beyond the horizon. Pink blotches and orange ones, the sky ever blue, these mixed together to form a scenery that looked like it was fiction. The sun was merely a cherry on the cake, making its appearance known, casting out stupendous shadows over everything its rays of light touched.

Kazuto looked at the person beside him. She was looking towards the sky, her emerald eyes had a certain glint whenever it had light bounce off of it. Kazuto had stared too long, for both of them caught each other's eyes. At that moment, their eyes seemed to speak for themselves, the eyes are a gateway to a person's soul after all. So they stayed in that manner, until they started inching towards each other ever so slightly. So close that they could almost feel their breaths from one another, almost there. Suddenly, two kids came bursting out of their house, giggling. A brother and a sister, and a young woman, presumably their mother came out the door ushering them back in. She had glimpsed at the couple while doing so and understood the assignment. The damage had been dealt with too late, however, the atmosphere fading away.

"Sorry," Kazuto apologized.

"It's fine, I'm sure we'll have another chance."

They held hands, admiring the sky. It lasted like that for a while.

Two men were sitting at a restaurant eating some lunch.

"It's that time of the year again, Kayaba."

"Yeah yeah."

"So who do you think is going to get more recruits?"

"Obviously you Seijirou"

"It's not always the best."

"What do you mean?"

"Most of them only join the Garrison as a stepping stone to later transfer to the Military Police, After 2 years they transfer. We barely get genuine recruits."

"I see, what about your veteran soldiers?"

"They originally intended to transfer but after they saw what the garrison offered they decided to stay and protect their family."

Kayaba could see why he was a little angry. Unlike the Scouts the Garrison was treated as a stepping stone because most people didn't want to fight or look at a titan. They were happy as long as the walls were intact. He thought back to his friend who was now dead.

What would you do Yuu-

"...Uh, hello?"

"Hm yeah?"

"The waiter's here."

"Oh, my apologies. I was in deep thought, "I'll have a fish sandwich."

"Coming right up."

It was now time for graduation, Eugeo was a ball of nerves while Alice had to calm him down every two seconds. Kazuto was nervous not because he was finally achieving his goal but he wondered how his family would react to his choice. This event was private. The government didn't want civilians to attend because they didn't want to spend more than needed on the military.

It was a big stage, each commander would stand at the center of the stage and convince them why their regiment was the right choice for them.

"So Kazuto, your choice is final?"

"Yep, Koi I can't go back."

Koichiro Yuuki who Kazuto thought of as a big brother he never had, despite their age gap. Helped him and Eugeo a lot during their time in the cadet corps.

A man with the scouting legion dress uniform came to the center of the stage. His presence was so dominating he was Akihiko Kayaba the commander.

He cleared his throat.

"Good evening cadets of the 103rd class. I am Kayaba Akihiko, the current commander of the scouting legion. Usually I would try and convince you to join BUT I won't waste my time trying to. Instead I will go with the truth, most of these faces here will die within the next year or two. When you join the scouts you're signing your own death warrant. Outside the walls may be beautiful but it is very cruel. During these past years we have made some advancements on how to combat titans. I am not going to lie, many people died for this to happen…"

He took a deep breath.

".. BUT WITH THESE ADVANCEMENTS WE CAN NOW FIGHT BACK WE NO LONGER HAVE TO HIDE AND COWER IN FEAR. Our next expedition outside will be in a month's time. We will set up a base outside Wall Rose, so that we may leave supplies for when we are ready to take back Wall Maria and then possibly explore beyond the walls. I won't lie, it will be easier said than done. I ask of you, are you willing to die for freedom, are you willing to join humanity's spear? If not then you are dismissed."

One by one cadets started leaving.

I've already witnessed it and I can't go back. Kazuto thought back to his deceased mother

By the time everyone left there were only a handful left. Diavel, Eugeo, Koichiro, Lind and some others.

Oh? I was only expecting 5 at most.

"Welcome Cadets, you are now official scouts."

Kazuto took a deep breath. It is done

"You all deserve a salute, Shinzou wo Sasageyo!"

They left and were told to report to the base first thing in the morning.

As Eugeo, Kazuto and Koichiro were walking home. Everyone was silent wondering about how their guardians would react.

"So you guys ready?"

"Born ready, Eugeo."

Koichiro nodded in agreement.

"So how do you think your aunt's going to react?"

"I don't know man, she said she'd be happy with whatever I chose...I can't help but imagine her face of disappointment."

"What about you, Koichiro?"

He looked down in thought then spoke "I think she'd be disappointed, my mother would rather me join the MP's."

"Why?"

"She's...kinda obsessed with status.."

It was now the morning of training each cadet received their new uniform. They received new jackets, cloaks, brown trench coats and a green dress uniform which was used in meetings and formal events; etc they were even allowed to wear it on regular occasions if needed.

Kazuto looked at himself in the mirror, although he liked his new uniform he'd have prefered it in black.

"Really Kazuto you've been checking yourself out for a long time."

"Eh..let me admire myself Eugeo, though I'd prefer the uniform in black."

"Haha, isn't your black undershirt enough?"

Kazuto ignored his comment.

"Come, it's time for training."

They both left the barracks and went to the training forest. They fell in line with the other recruits. A woman with dark brown hair who had her hair up in a pony tail and twilight blue eyes.

"I am your Captain Sortilina Serlut, I will be overseeing your training today, understood?"

"YES MA'AM!"

"Good, now today we will have a joint training session with the garrison recruits."

As she said that a long line of garrison soldiers appeared led by Sergeant Mils. Compared to the scouts they were much more in number.

"FALL IN."

"I see you still got that Drill Instructor attitude Andrew"

"Someone's gotta keep em in line...no?"

Ignoring his comment she continued.

"Ok so for this training, there will be 75 titan dummies that will pop up. You will slice their nape but if you hit the ground you will be considered dead and create a new line back here…"

A recruit raised his hand

"Speak."

"Why would we be considered dead..?"

"Does a titan wait if you hesitate?"

"No."

"There's your answer."

When the training started, Kazuto slowly went airborne using both hooks to latch on to trees that were parallel to each other.

A dummy popped up and he was quick to react he grappled on to the nape with his right hook while unhooking the left one yeah. and pressed the gas and sliced it with both of his swords.

"Hyaah" That's one

He was doing his hardest not to look down, Just keep moving forward.

After 5 hours of training it was finally over, Kazuto's muscles were sore all over.

Is this what it's like to be a scout? Maybe I should've joined the Garrison.

"Yo, Kazu."

"Hey Koich."

"You good man?"

"Sore muscles."

"I see, well we only just have to pick our horses now."

"What for?"

"Oh I don't know, maybe because we need to go into enemy territory and we pretty much need them to get around." He said in a sarcastic tone.

They arrived at the horse stable.

"You will now pick a horse that you will ride, this horse will be your partner until you die so take good care of it."

"YES, MA'AM"

Kazuto went inside and immediately his eyes met a beautiful black horse.

He was instantly drawn towards and went closer to it. The horse pushed him away, knocking him on his back.

"Uff"

"Haha, that horse hasn't been tamed in a while"

He saw a man in a red bandana

"Who are you?"

"Names Tsuboi Ryoutarou, Sergeant."

"How come you weren't at training?"

"Oh we are in completely different sections I'm guessing that's why but we will still work with each other when on missions"

"I see."

"Anyways, what's up with this horse?"

"Oh this horse used to belong to a soldier, he hasn't really taken to anyone since."

"Do you know who?"

"I think it was Yuu or something like that, the commander might know."

"Doesn't matter, I am still going to try to forge a bond with this one."

"You stubborn bastard."

"Hah, that I am."

Over the next few weeks Kazuto would finish his training. He would try to ride the horse but It would knock him off immediately after. He would ask his aunt for some advice.

Midori noticed Kazuto look troubled while she was cutting carrots.

"Hey Kazu, Anything on your mind?"

"Well there this hor-"

"Wait if you need training advice, I think your uncle would be better suited for this." She interrupted him before he could finish.

"No it's not that-"

"Girl problems?"

"No."

"Well then what is it?"

He raised his voice slightly. "Maybe if you let me finish then you would know."

She looked at him and squinted her eyes at him. "Sorry didn't mean to." Kazuto raised his arms in surrender.

"It's this horse, It doesn't seem to like me."

"Well, did you try feeding it?"

His eyes became wider as he just realized something. "No, will that work though?"

"Not one hundred percent, when you want to bond with an animal try feeding it, spend some with it before trying to ride it."

"Does it work?"

"Worked with you."

"Oh o- wait what?" He had the most confused look on his face.

"When you first came after the uh…" she waved around her knife in thought, Midori did not want to say anything to remind him of his mother's death. "...incident you were kind of shut in, so the only thing I could do was give you food and just try to talk to you little by little, until you were ready to open up."

He gulped, as he could tell that the mood dropped. "Oh I-i see.."

"So just feed the horse a carrot and maybe take him on walks?" She shrugged

Kazuto seemed to realize something and chuckled a little "Are you calling me a horse?"

"Maybe…maybe not." They both laughed at each other. The mood wasn't as gloomy as before but it was a little lighter.

Sugu came down stairs

"Oh breakfasts is ready"

"What did you make mom?"

"Salad"

Sugu stuck her tongue out in disgust. "Anything else?"

"No, I am going shopping later, so either eat this or starve till lunchtime."

"Ugh fine." She sat down across from Kazuto and ate the salad.

Kazuto looked at Sugha eating and recalled a conversation he had with Koichiro a few weeks ago.

"She doesn't hate you."

"How would you know?"

"How was your relationship with her before you left?"

"We were on good terms, even though she is my cousin I still consider her as my real sister."

"I mean you left for about three years for training so maybe she thinks you changed and doesn't know how to approach you?"

He looked in deep thought I see maybe you're right

Kazuto was about to say something when there was a sudden knock at the door. Midori went to open the door.

"Oh hello, Shinichi."

"Hello, Mrs. Kirigaya, is Sugha ready?"

Sugha got up and picked up her bag

"Let's go." They both left and went towards the inner gate to school.

"Who was that?"

"Sugha's friend."

"Hm okay."

Was that a guy she liked?

"Hey Auntie…"

"Hm?"

"There's this girl…Sachi."

"What about Sachi?"

"Well she's my girlfriend no-"

She squealed "Oh my god, my Kazuto has a girlfriend.."

Kazuto looked at his aunt with an annoyed face "Ok i'll stop."

"She'd like to meet you formally one day."

"I'll talk to Noriko."

"Anyways I gotta go cya."

After training Kazuto went to the horse stables and fed the horse. Apparently his name was 'Argus'. That's what the previous soldier named him.

"Hey buddy." He slowly went up to the horse to give it carrots.

He reached his arm out to give it the carrot. It almost took his whole arm along with the carrot. Kazuto did this for the next two weeks until Argus was comfortable enough to go on walks with him. Then the faithful day happened.

Walking along the grassfield in the interior of Wall Rose while the sun was setting. He had to go home for dinner soon. They now were on their way back to the stables, It would be so much easier to just climb and ride him but Argus wasn't comfortable with that and Kazuto did not want to make him feel uncomfortable. As they were walking Argus just kept bumping into him.

"Ok, ok we will go slower."

Kazuto slowed his pace. Argus did not stop bumping him though.

Troublesome horse

Argus stopped completely and Kazuto turned his head around "What is it no-". Argus literally dropped down on the floor. Kazuto was shocked.

"Do you mean it?"

The horse nodded in response. He carefully got on the back of the horse and boy was it fast. Stopping at the showers before going home.

Ha arrived at the showers with Argus, tying him to a hitchpost and got his casual clothes from the pouch on his horse. He went inside and changed in the boys locker room. Putting on a towel, he gave his uniform and casual clothes to the attendant so it wouldn't be stolen. Kazuto went towards the shower stalls getting a few whistles from passing ladies. As soon as he turned on the shower it was like heaven for his sore muscles as he trained a lot. He could not wait to fight the titans.

Kazuto got home a little before dinner. He was greeted in the living room by his sister.

"Hey mom is making chicken for dinner…Kirito."

Kazuto was surprised that she was speaking to him but responded normally.

"Yeah I just gotta put my uniform away .." He was about to leave when..

"Kirito…"

"Yes..?"

There was a thick silence followed afterwards you could hear a pin drop. "...Nice uniform…the logo looks cool." Kazuto smiled.

"Thanks…" he was thinking of something else to say "...I could tell you what it means later, if you want?" Sugha nodded her head. Kazuto went upstairs to put his uniform away and Sugha sat back on the couch reading a book. Little did they know a happy Midori was watching silently. Kazuto was now in his room checking himself out. He had quite the muscle as he has been working out plus training.

When he came down he smelt chicken ah the rare scent of meat. Kazuto walked in the kitchen and was surprised to see Sachi, Noriko and her father sitting at the dinner table. So that's why we are having chicken. He sat between Sachi and her father. Well this is awkward.

Sachi's father cleared his throat "I am Koichi Sachis father, are you the one who stole my princess heart?" He looked at him sternly.

Poor boy didn't know what to say. "Yes and I am sorry."

"Hm.." he moved his head closer "Didn't hear you, can you say it again?"

"Sweetie, don't be too hard on him." Noriko tried to interject.

"But Sachi said she would marry m-"

"DAD!"

"What it's true."

"AHEM." Mintaka cleared his throat "..Let's enjoy my wife's cooking. Is that not what we are here for? We can fool around later."

"Your right..My bad 'Taka."

Kazuto gave a skeptical look at the nickname but dismissed it as Midori opened the chicken pot and the sweet aroma took over the room. "Let's eat shall we" she smiled. They ate and Minetaka loved his wife's cooking. After they ate, Midori spoke up.

"We will be back with some tea & pound cakes"

They went into the living room.

"So Kazuto. I hear you're a scout like my daughter yea?" Koichi stated in a dark voice.

"Yes, sir." for some reason he felt like he was in a interrigation.

Minetaka bursted laughing, which confused Kazuto

"No need for the interrogation voice Koichi."

"Ah, sorry Taka."

Kazuto was even more confused.

"Like your old man here I am also an MP and we are in the same unit." He explained

"Oh" That made their friendly banter make sense

"So.." they started chatting about various topics such as current events, Sugu's school and how Kirisachi became a couple. That's what Sugu named them. It was now time to leave.

"Bye Sachi" He looked downwards he had fun with her and Sugha but now that she was leaving things would go back to normal which means she would start avoiding him.

"Kirito?"

"Yea?"

"Your sister doesn't hate you, just give her time."

"I do-"

"Sachi dear, let's go." A masculine voice was heard outside.

Since she couldn't get a word in, she kissed Kazuto tenderly on the lips.

"SACHI LETS GO."

"COMING DAD!" She yelled back.

The next day after training he accidentally dropped his blade. Kazuto managed to grab it but was holding it backwards there was no time to adjust it Fuck it. He somehow spun, slicing the nape, and it was way smoother. He hit the ground he landed roughly Koichiro landed behind him shortly after.

"What happened?" a dizzy Kazuto just landed

"Kazuto, are you ok?" A worried expression can be seen on his face.

"Yes I am but what happened?"

"You-"

An energetic yet shocked Eugeo cut "Broo you were spinning like legit spun like a beyblade!"

Like those kiddie toys, Oh a new technique?

"Don't Kazuto, I know that look on your face."

"Whaaat?" He overexaggerated it and played dumb.

"You have that determined look on your face, don't try that on a real titan."

"What but it was just a mishap-"

"Exactly a mishap besides blades aren't supposed to be held that way, I don't want you dying."

Suddenly the mood got darker. "I'm not going to nor do I plan to."

Kazuto practiced his new technique everyday when he was alone because Koichiro would scold him for it. He was not perfect at it, but gradually got better at it.

"So you're really doing this, usually you'd give more time for the new recruits Kayaba."

"Well this batch is promising and we have to hurry as humanity won't survive within the next 5 years if we don't reclaim Wall Maria, Serlut"

"So the government's been pushing you?"

Kayba nodded. Sortillena Serlut was Kayaba's right hand; he trusted her the most out of everyone when it came to military affairs.

"Well what is the plan?"

"As I said in my graduation speech we will set up a supply line first. After that is done we will build a base at the halfway point between wall rose and maria and store explosives inside it. Then use said explosives to blow the top of the front gate to block the entrance of shiganshina district with the debris"

"That plan is not bad but I don't think the rubble will be enough to block titans. Building a base takes quite a bit of time, much less in titan territory, that's even crazier. How the heck are going to get explosives? What if there set off by titans?"

"To answer your questions it will be provided by the government. They kept pushing me for answers so I gave them what I could think of off the top of my head."

"Wait, you came up with this without preparation?"

He nodded. Sortillena laughed at him. You can actually come up with a great plan without preparation but can't keep your wife? She wiped away her tears.

"What is so funny?"

"Nothing, by the way how come they approved so fast?"

"They want us to reclaim wall maria, but when we want to explore outside wall maria they gave us such a fuss, I wonder why?"

"You're asking me, please I don't wanna hear your theories that could get us arrested for possibly thinking it."

A month later it was now time for the scouts to headout for their 56th expedition led by Akihiko Kayaba. The scouts were now lined up and ready to depart.

"Sachi you ready?"

"Y-yes, you?"

"To be honest I feel like I am gonna shit my pants, but yes." He had no idea why he admitted that to his girlfriend. Sachi just giggled in response.

Eugeo was shaking. Unlike Kazuto he never experienced a titan. His mom told him to go on the boat he refused at first but she reassured him that she would catch up by horse. Looking back at it, it was an obvious lie, they couldn't afford a horse.

Eugeo and his mother, who had black straight hair and blue eyes, managed to get to the inner gate and they both were stopped by a soldier

"Only one more can go on the boat."

"Mom!" Eugeo cried out

"Don't worry about me, I'll catch up by horse and see you at wall rose."

"No, you should go." He couldn't handle it and let the tears flow

"Why?"

"...Because dad is waiting for you and he would be very sad if you didn't go."

Now she started tearing up "Look I will come on a horse and meet you and dad at wall rose."

Eugeo nodded as he was dragged by the soldier who said 'I'm sorry Shion' and forced him on the boat. He saw and wanted to speak to Kazuto but he didn't look in his right mind. Over the next few days he had hope that his mother would pick him up but he lost hope. Instead his dad picked him up at the refugee camp and started walking. He was a man in his 30's with slicked blonde hair and green eyes.

"Hey Eugeo, where's mom?"

"She said that she would come back by horse…" he hesitated to say what he was thinking.

He looked up and saw that his dad had an angry expression. Immediately Eugeo began to cry.

"Hey hey, what's wrong?"

Eugeo was sobbing, his father could hardly make out the words "..sorry…boat…mom…died…because of…me."

He bent down and pulled him into a tight hug. "No it wasn't because of you it was the titans."

"Oi, Akira are you making your son cry?" a random vendor said

"ATTENTION THE 57TH EXPEDITION NOW BEGINS!" Kayaba yelled out

The gates opened and this was their first step into titan territory.
