Turn 10: Spring of Birth
"During times of crisis the flame of life burns brightly."
Lungmen was besieged.
That would put the state of things loosely but Lungmen was indeed attacked, Reunion soldiers from every possible entryway came about and started wreak havoc along the streets. They frolicked in the mayhem that they created as if Lungmen will fall all the same like what happened to Chernobog. Not caring of who personally persecuted them so like children they threw tantrums at how unjustly they personally have been treated.
Hurting their fellow man when in truth the conflict only benefits those who are above.
A majority of Reunion's ranks were either filled with nothing but lowlifes who had nowhere to go after coming into contact with Oripathy or naive idealists who thought that violence would improve the whole Infected discrimination issue as a whole, conveniently ignoring the collateral they destroyed in their wake.
Disease leads the bearer to a weak mind so it was no surprise, it's a shame that there was no cure for stupidity.
"I just hope that Ch'en and the others are able to make safe and sound..." The Doctor sighed as he looked over the place they were on, it was frosted with the same deathly cold air that the white rabbit emitted, "We can't stay here for long where are they?"
Every second they linger in Chernobog the rougher things get in Lungmen's situation. After that confirmation of Ch'en's status there was nothing much that she said. Was there something that interrupted her return to her home? Thoughts paced back and forth as his concerns grew more drastic.
"Doctor..." It did not take someone with Amiya's ARTS to see the anxiousness creep into his face, "Lungmen's protectors are formidable in their own right, but now we need you to focus."
Frostleaf was right, he cannot afford to think like this. Hoshiguma was one of the strongest warriors he knew, even in their sparring sessions he had yet to make her flinch and Ch'en he reckoned has the potential to be stronger than the Oni Defender.
Lungmen was in good hands so he must focus all his attention towards his people.
In every civilization, the technology that people develop over the course of time is dictated by the resources and needs that the economy and people need fulfilling. With the advent of Originium ARTS a lot of technology that would have been beneficial if mass-produced was delegated into rarities, and some good ol' fashioned lobbying doesn't hurt the hurting of technological advancement.
Luckily, there was nothing too rare for Rhodes Island to reach.
Kilometers above ground was an aircraft of sorts, the "Bad Guy" as its pilot affectionately named is the ride that would extract Amiya and her allies after a successful rendezvous with the reconnaissance team.
The people on board currently where the pilot and one of Rhodes Island's elite; the Operator code-named Blaze.
"You sure it was a good idea for the others to go on ahead?" Asked the pilot who decided to make small talk with her, personally he really doesn't care about the tactics they might employ since he's here to rescue people not fight their enemies. That and working with Blaze tends to make you focus on different factors.
Although he isn't afraid to show how bad his guy can be if it came down to it.
"It'd be better for them to fight off our pursuers and carve a path rather than going with me." Blaze opened a can of soda and chugged it all down in one fell swoop, the pilot was unnerved at the sight.
The can was sizzling hot after all.
"You really are going to jump down at this height?" He asked incredulously but Blaze hand-waved it, it was fine. Seeing that this was just how Blaze is, he sighed in defeat.
"At least let me put down a rope for you." Then again since when did this lunatic ever needed one? "You really are just going for it again..."
It wasn't like he's a new recruit or anything and he was used to her shenanigans but the Feline could learn some restraint every once in a while. Every time they went out on a mission together the girl would do the craziest things.
"I swear just watching you while on a mission shaves a bit of my life..." It's not like he was a hard-ass and in truth he secretly enjoyed watching her blow shit up, it was very reminiscent of a Nicheal Jay movie like Transchangers.
Blaze chuckled at his worried complaint, "That just shows that we have great rapport."
"Rapport my ass!" He all but shouted, "Last time you demolished a town, bombed out a reservoir and collapsed a mine!" To be fair, the last one was abandoned and civilians weren't hurt but still has this lady ever heard of keeping collateral at a low? "Keep the chaos at a minimum and don't bring any of it to my baby."
Aircrafts are a thing of myth in some regions of Terra so they aren't even used for commercial purposes so the value of "Bad Guy" is astronomical and invaluable to Rhodes Island.
"Yeah yeah, but really "Bad Guy" of all the names you could pick." Blaze teased to the wary pilot, "Maybe next time you could pick a better name."
"I don't want to hear that from somebody who's codename is Blaze." The pilot shot back, "Whatever, just jump already."
The Bad Guy was reaching closer to its destination and as big of a metal bird it is, it was sure to draw attention to any onlookers beneath the sky. It's not like they can do anything about it however, no attack can reach up to its if you are the very incarnation of winter itself.
"Seems the welcoming committee saw us, well this is where we say our goodbyes Blaze." The pilot magnified his sights towards a few Reunion soldiers debating on what the hell is hovering above them, it was a bit funny to be honest.
"No problem." Throwing her emptied can to the garbage chute she about readied herself for the plunge.
"I'll wait by the ruin entrance so better be quick about it." As soon as he said that he noticed the comms buzzing with static an indication of a transmission starting.
With the wind gusting behind them they were then greeted by a loud "HELLO!"

Down below the Doctor and some of the other Medic Operators resumed to treat and monitor the others' health seeing as they have a moment to rest they might as well take it.
Anyone still suffering from the effects of the Yeti Squadron's attacks were sent towards the Doctor who easily cured them all with Parvati's Baisudi. After making sure that everyone is in good shape, he then looked at his equipment. The grappling hook that Closure gave him had a small layer of frost around the metal, if he touched it with his skin he reckoned that it will freezer-burn his digits.
"I don't like this but I have to bear with it..." Downside of curative magic is that he can't use it on inanimate objects, he can't even heal the robots because they don't have something that constitutes as human. Even though they are capable of expressing aspects of a personality it is just a manifestation of their creator's genius.
If they somehow had a soul inside them then that's a different story altogether, but a robot with a soul? They only exist in science fiction movies.
Sharpening the edge of his weapon he went towards Frostleaf and the others while using his whetstone. After the battle Frostleaf gradually felt exhausted, her body temperature was on steady decline.
"My body's temperature is always like this..." She weakly sighed as her breath was so cold that it was visible.
"That's what worries me, even for your body this temperature is alarming." Amiya reminded her with a strict tone, "You and the Doctor took the brunt of FrostNova's assault but unlike him you don't have the ability of healing yourself."
Granted, he did heal all of them but Frostleaf's issue was an internal one rather than sustaining external damage. ARTS over-exertion, as long as Frostleaf took it easy then she would be fine and fit to fight another day.
While the recuperating process was happening, Jessica and a few others had drones of their own scout the perimeter. The Yetis are a determined guerrilla force with objectives and tactics that they employ, and Amiya caught a glimpse of their leader's gaze before leaving.
The white rabbit would never allow them to leave this place.
"So how is the situation up there Jessica?" Amiya asked the focused Feline, Jessica was still very shaken about what she saw but at the very least she decided to distract herself by doing her job.
"Th-They're approaching towards our position, about five-hundred meters" They were still far but the Yeti squadron will eventually catch up to them, the only path they could take now was blocked by debris. They resorted to carve out a path but due to the complicated superstructure of the building even if the Doctor and Meteorite blasted it with force, the risks of doing so wouldn't be worth it.
Fifteen minutes is enough time for the Yeti Squadron to catch up.
"We might have to fight again Amiya..." The Doctor put a hand on her tense shoulders, "However we must not resort to showing our hand still..."
"I know...we have to hold this line with these conditions" Amiya nodded, "Meteorite, we have a stock on bolts still so..."
"On it." The Sniper quickly heading towards the supply squad to refill her ammunition, she was running low on bolts after several skirmishes with Reunion after all.
As the other Operators quickly prepared for combat once more Amiya's communication device emitted static from its speaker.
Whatever the speaker was saying was obscured by a large interference, something that sounded like a howl.
"Odd...A call at this time?" Amiya wondered who could it be, it was through Rhodes Island's personal on-field communication device so seeing the caller's name was out of the question.
"Hi-ya I'm talking from the elite Operator channel so I can open it from my end." The voice loudly said, yet even though the speaker was loud it was only to counter the howling breeze accompanying the call.
Hearing the voice, Frostleaf and some of the others shuddered. The Doctor has yet to meet the Operator they were dreading so he did not understand what's exactly wrong about it. He may have met them when he was signing autographs during the Siestan Obsidian Festival but they were so many unfamiliar faces there.
"Uh...I don't follow as to why you grimaced like that Frostleaf..." He sheepishly said, truthfully he was already a bit use to interacting with colorful personalities, "Are they going to make a huge difference here?"
The Vulpo operator sighed, knowing that this mission would be louder than she would have liked she turned to the Doctor, "Operator Blaze, well she has enough firepower to level the whole ground and leave everyone pissing themselves..."
"Damn right it's me, but that's a bit hyperbolic Frostleaf..." Blaze shouted through her mic, "Especially since the Doc right there has that kind of reputation too."
Amiya sighed at their banter after all you'd think with the synopsis of their condition she would at least take things seriously, "Honestly...so where are you Blaze? We need your support."
"I'm right above you." Ok, that's much to go around to the average outsider but to Amiya and the others that was a cause of alarm, "Just around two hundred meters to go and I'll be there."
Meters? In what axis is she referring to?
The Doctor looked above in search of the cavalry, you'd think a parachute would be easy to make out in the afternoon sky but he can't find any sign of the woman. Only a silhouette of some kind, gradually getting larger even though it's like a small black dot compared to the vast sky above.
Then it clicked to him, an asinine idea...
"Wait, there's just no way..." The Doctor said shocked even though it was hypocritical of him to acknowledge how insane the idea was as he himself did that stunt back in Lungmen.
"She jumped again?"
The way Meteorite asked Frostleaf was like asking a co-worker if it's going to rain soon. Amiya was rubbing her head in bewilderment while Blaze was inviting her to join in the skydiving next time they have a mission together, and while the Cautus enjoyed a good skydive with the Doctor even her Persona would agree that joining the elite Operator would a detriment to her health which wasn't spectacular from the beginning.
Forget Oripathy, stunts like this are what truly kills you.
"I can't hear what you're saying, turn of your comms." Amiya asked her about the whereabouts of her squad but the gale was getting louder meaning Blaze was getting closer and intelligible. The Doctor who heard it better than someone who has four ears explained for Blaze.
Most Reunion members would sooner accept the sky to rain cats and dogs than what Rhodes Island thought was a good idea to drop reinforcements at. Granted it was still raining at least a singular cat but anybody who skydives without a parachute is either suicidal or dangerous, heck maybe even both.
And the Yeti Squadron has it in good faith it was not exclusively the former.
Either way, while her squad mates where at awe at the equipment that Rhodes Island possessed FrostNova ordered them to steer clear of the landing zone; abandoning their attempts to sabotage Blaze's descent.
Amiya braced herself then turned towards the Doctor, "Either way, whatever she says just nod at it Doctor."
"Huh?" Before the Doctor could ask her to elaborate on what she meant a loud impact had destroyed the cold silence.
Like a fiery meteor the ground made way for the descending Operator; leaving a smoldering crater in her wake. As the Yetis ready to face off once more with Rhodes Island they stood their with caution, feeling sweat trickle down their backs.
They say cats always land on their feet but this is ridiculous.
FrostNova stood cautiously, the newcomer fell from a great height and they stood their with a predatory smirk. Even if this was only one unit, there was something extremely off about them. Her frigid cold was weakening or perhaps the air was getting warmer.
"Hi-ya Reunion, shame we couldn't meet under better circumstances." Blaze's voice was friendly but only a fool would take it as a lighthearted crack, "I don't like fighting against other Infected but I heard you guys hurt some of my co-workers..."
Blaze looked towards the enemy with a sharp grin, "And even though my buddies want to get out of here you still want to chase after them, sorry but I have to put a stop to that."
"Aren't you mouthy." FrostNova readied her sword along with the frigid ARTS that she commands.
Yet as the swirling blizzard formed in front of them Blaze chuckled, "Hello to you to Miss Frosty." The elite Operator observed the young white rabbit's power and felt excitement in her blood.
"I wonder what will happen when your cold meets my heat."
Embers trickled around the frigid air and Blaze's chainsaw hummed ferociously, as if that weapon on her hand is her teeth used to bite off prey.
With a single lunge, the flames battle danced once more.

Darkness amidst unconsciousness was the only thing they could feel, their subconscious left to long for days that have gone by.
We'll be friends forever, those adults won't bully us anymore!
Don't be afraid, from now on I'll help you no matter what happens.
So if something bad happens to me, you better help me too.
Hehe, we'll always together right?
That's what are friends are for.
Those were the memories of slightly better days, a time when her heart was still so innocent. There was a certain kindness to not knowing things even though there was little benefit to it.
Do you still remember what you did when the old duke snatched her away?
Can you really do whatever it takes for the sake of Lungmen?
Now, Wei Yanwu what or who are you going to sacrifice this time?
"Nngh...Ugh." The dragon lady groaned in pain, "Save her..."
"Officer Ch'en, wake up!" Ch'en could vaguely make out a familiar figure within her crossroad between consciousness.
"Let me through, let me!" Yet out of a half-awake trance, the Lung weakly struggled from her position.
"Puk gaai, I don't have the time to deal with this..." The figure was seen retreating from her limited sight then suddenly Ch'en felt something wet hit her face.
Ch'en was immediately surprised at what hit her, coughing at whatever smacked her back to the world of the living
It was a cold splash of water, courtesy of her co-worker Swire.
"Yo, finally awake?" Swire had a sharp look on her face, her offhand held a dripping glass which Ch'en figured whose contents were now on her face.
Ch'en did not have time to think about such things, she immediately leaped from her position then struggled to keep her footing. Her body felt awful even though she can feel herself getting better by the minute.
"Where's Hoshiguma and the others!?" She inquired to the Feline, that was the first thing Ch'en thought of after returning to the world of consciousness. The Oni was nowhere to been seen and that did not sit well with her.
Swire was not there to give her peace of mind however, "What if I told you they all were killed?"
"That isn't funny Swire!" Ch'en growled, her fists shaking as Swire looked at her with scorn, "What the hell happened!?"
"That's what I want to ask you!" Swire did not back then staring at her superior with equal intensity, "The hell were you thinking going with Rhodes Island at that place? Did Chief Wei authorize the operation? Well!?"
Ch'en went silent, the chief did not authorize the operation so she herself went on her own but to her it was for Lungmen's safety. If they got the key now then there isn't anything that Reunion could do. That is what she wanted to say but one look at Swire's face could tell that any justification she might had is bullshit.
Her actions before did not reflect it.
"We decided it was the best approach to deal with Reunion." Ch'en explained, unable to muster anymore fury in her voice. She was not in the mood with another argument with Swire, all she cared about was to verify her friends' condition and protecting Lungmen, "Turns out, I was mistaken..."
Swire was taken aback at her sudden shift of tone, usually she would spit back at her and they would banter and swear at each other. However what she was looking at was not the Ch'en she was used to, did she grew soft after bonding with the Rhodes Islanders? Well damn it, she was ready to tease her about losing her position as superintendent but now...
What a killjoy.
Hoshiguma suddenly emerged from the cabin door with some snacks on hand, "Oh what had happened here, I leave for a minute and usually you're at each others throats. I'm used to that happening but I'm even more unnerved by the sudden quiet here."
The Oni looked over to see Ch'en's damp face then back to a dripping cup.
"It's relieving to see you Hoshiguma." Ch'en breathed out, "But where exactly are we?"
Hoshiguma set the snacks aside and took a seat in the cabin, she explained that they are currently located at one of the cabin's at Rhodes Island. Ch'en thought that they hid their tracks well but Reunion clearly did not think the same. All of the L.G.D were safe in the retreat but as they were about to escape the Lung was hit by a sudden explosion and was knocked out. It was dead-on too so unless the superintendent had Sarkaz or Oni blood in her veins then it was no surprise that she would be out of commission.
"The Doctor and Amiya?" Ch'en voiced out still anxious about their safety.
"Well they are still alive even though they were in a tight situation from what I've heard." Hoshiguma answered as she relayed what she accidentally heard from the chatter of other Operators, "That's all I know though, if you want more details then ask Swire she contacted them a while ago."
Swire narrowed her eyes at Hoshiguma, "If you're worried about them then they're fine, Rhodes Island decided to have one of their trump cards as backup." Truthfully the first thing she went to do was to contact Blaze's crew because Ch'en would definitely ask about them, that much she knows.
That eased the dragon lady's fears a bit so it's fine.
All that's left for them is to go back to Lungmen, the only problem being is that Reunion is now the defending force that took over their home. Manuever warfare is the only option, they have to fight their way to the heart of the city. At least Hoshiguma found a silver lining in their situation as it would be a fun departure to usual security work.
"What's the purpose of that kind of strategy though?" Hoshiguma asked Swire, even though they could do that kind of strategy what would make it better than doing it discreetly since they would achieve the same goal if they worked downward rather than upward.
Swire however smirked, "Why destroying all of Reunion's rallying points." They wanted to capture Reunion and now they saved the LGD the trouble of going after them. Reunion is now in a place that the LGD wanted them to be, now that they are attempting to take over Lungmen the majority of their forces have no chance of escaping.
The ideal move in this case would be a siege.
"We have to seize that opportunity while Reunion is establishing a foothold." Swire followed up, they still had the home field advantage even though they are away for now.
However Ch'en saw a flaw in that plan, "By doing so, we will only force the remnants to converge faster. You can't guarantee that you'll be able to hold them off while waiting for the rest to assemble, much less ensure that all of their men are dealt with by then."
In short, they are tied between letting Reunion fortify its defenses so that they themselves would be better prepared or deal with them earlier to prevent that from happening but the siege wouldn't be as strong as it should be.
Ch'en didn't need any of Swire's tactical advantages so to speak and nor do she believe that Swire is qualified to lecture her about strategy in warfare. But before she could stop herself from doing so she held her tongue. Swire had a point and she did not want to admit it out of pride in her rank and work.
Had she met Amiya and the Doctor any later then she would spat fire on the Feline.
"This is a tough call to make..." Hoshiguma stated, she noted that both girls made a fine point. Swire's idea was more risky yet more devastating but Ch'en was more worried about preserving the life of her command.
"Yeah...I agree..." Ch'en bit her lip in frustration, an act that did not go unnoticed by the two with her, "We need more time to decide on our approach."
Yet the more time they spend determining the best course of action, the more time Reunion has to settle in with their new territory. Ch'en's lack of spite irked Swire more than when they were going at each other's throats.
Still, Ch'en's demeanor was right for the job this was no time to indulge in their song and dance.
"If only I had your spot, then we could actually make a move on them..." Swire mockingly sighed, who is she kidding there was always time to piss Ch'en off.
"If you think that's what being in my position entails then you're not ready for it."
The Superintendent really didn't leave anymore room to argue about that topic, all she was concerned about is taking back her home. She will worry about her mistakes and failures later, right now she had a duty to fulfill.
"Whatever, I'm preparing for the mission." Swire scoffed at Ch'en's more professional attitude, she then turned around carrying a deathly fire of determination in her eyes. Before the haughty Feline took her leave Ch'en caught a glimpse of a damaged backside.
Seconds felt like hours but Ch'en needed to quickly process the current state of affairs. The Doctor and Amiya are stuck in Chernobog so even though they could easily clear out Lungmen of Reunion filth it was unlikely that they will be there as reinforcements. Reunion is repelling the LGD and at the same time establishing a foothold within the their base, so it's a race to retrieve that place from them because otherwise they would lose everything from them.
Still Ch'en can't help but wonder.
"What happened to Swire?" Hoshiguma sighed at Ch'en question then as she sat on the stool that previously was Swire's, she recounted the events after Ch'en was knocked out of commission.
When they were making their retreat Ch'en was damaged by an attack from a Reunion Caster, not by the bolt itself but by the explosion afterwards. Swire and their reinforcements were there just in time to stop them from killing her, the girl then carried Ch'en back to safety even sustaining an attack from the back just to shield her from harm.
"That's about it, I was going to say that you could stand to be a bit nicer to her but you already did that."
"How so? I just said things as it is." If Swire didn't like the facts then it's her own damn fault for getting angry, "Although yeah I know, she deserves that much...she would probably need to see a Medic first since he's not here."
"Oh it's fine, I told her to go see Miss Ceylon while we're here." Hoshiguma replied, "She has the same type of ARTS as those two anyways."
That's news to the dragon lady, there was another person in Rhodes that has the same ability as them?
"Wha? When did that happen?" She was under the impression that it was a very rare type of ARTS but now some random Operator has it too, granted it was only three but still.
Hoshiguma sighed she thought that the Doctor already told this story given how close they were, "Madam...you really are out of the loop."
The Madam made a mental reminder to ask the Doctor or Amiya about what happened in Siesta.
"...This isn't like you." Hoshiguma said, "Saying things as it is, being more utilitarian...you aren't built to act like a politician."
The Oni was right, she had her instincts to rely on and she protected Lungmen from the front not by plotting things in advance. However her hands are tied, beside it's all for...
"It's for the sake of Lungmen..."
"Ok, now I know this isn't like you." Hoshiguma scoffed at her hollow justification, her leader was an active protector not somebody who would kill their own men and say that this was for Lungmen's sake. To Ch'en those who say that are blowhards and fools who justify their questionable decisions.
And here she is now, finding it ironically funny that she was saying such nonsense.
"Not like I have much of a choice." Ch'en sighed and soon after a knock came from the door, "It's alright come inside."
As the door's hydraulics opened Operator Trace formally bowed to the two superiors of the LGD, "Apologies, I was supposed to inform you two about the mission with Rhodes Island but I overheard your conversation with Miss Swire. I thought it would be rude of me to intrude..."
"She left now so it's fine." Hoshiguma reassured Trace, "So give us the rundown."
"Ah well..." Trace stammered, "Several squads are already prepared to deploy and we are ready to start the mission with you."
"Got it, I'll be right there."
He then continued explaining the current state of Lungmen based on what the drones they deployed caught, how many hostiles estimated, what weapons they used, and the routes to take.
"I know Lungmen has suffered a lot of casualties but we will do everything in our power to assist you."
"It's fine." Ch'en was slightly unnerved at how friendly the Rhodes Island Staff can be sometimes aside from some abrasive characters most of them are pleasant, she's used to it but still...
"Also..." Trace took out a box with the Rhodes Island logo in it, "Doctor Kal'tsit ordered me to send you this, she called them "The Doctor's party favors" but rest assured I haven't taken a peek in it."
Trace presented the box and set it on the small table where Ch'en's seat is near to. He then took his leave and let the two ladies prepare for the battle ahead.
Opening it, the box contained some of the syringes that the Doctor would carry into battle with. On closer inspection the glass looked almost like crystals with some fluid in them. They never really had the time to admire the craftsmanship given to these during the heat of battle even though the man you invented them gave the vials every-so often.
"Party favors huh..." Ch'en murmured as she observed the green syringe, this was Sukukazine the one that stimulates the muscular system enabling the consumer to be lithe and agile.
There were three of each medicine that she knew the Doctor would dope him or his Operators on, Rakukazine and Tarukazine too. Unlike a certain back-alley Specialist Doctor the drugs did not contain any side-effects. If only they knew that it was synthesized with purest material ever known to man.
The essence of one's soul.
"Here take these syringes and I'll take these." Ch'en slid the items on her front pocket ready to be used if she needed the boost, she then sighed as she decided on her loadout, "I could really use a vacation after this..."
"We already went to Siesta, now you're thinking of going to another place?" Hoshiguma chuckled, "Given the circumstances I guess you really need it. Ochre seems to be pretty nice this year heck we can even slip in something else given the distance."
A road trip? That sounded nice in all honesty. Maybe she shouldn't get intoxicated by the friends she just made, there's always company close by after all.
"Maybe your hometown Hoshiguma, I was always curious about that place."
"Ah, don't bother the only thing good about that place is the Kagami Mochi there."
"Guess so, though I don't really mind. Who knows maybe a simple quiet vacation is fun in itself."
No papers to approve, no Chiefs to answer too, no city to stop getting overrun by the Infected militia on their doorstep and alleyways. Sounds like paradise to Ch'en.
Dreams of planning their next vacation after the battle were shattered as a transmission shot through her communication device. Ch'en recognized this channel, it meant that something dire is happening.
"A transmission from that channel?" Ch'en voiced out, Hoshiguma already knew what to do so she left Ch'en alone in the cabin. The Oni had no business with this, this was her superior officer's duty.
...
Silence came first then suddenly she can make out the noises in the background. Although faint she can tell that this was happening in a battlefield. Yet one of her men hid well enough to pass along the message.
"Speak, I'm listening."
The voice on the other end felt relieved that the connection made through, however there was no time to waste.
"Madam Ch'en, those Infected...Reunion they're everywhere..." The voice cautiously whispered, their voice was faint they can feel their hold slip away every second. They could only carry on through sheer will.
"XR02, where are you!?"
"Muk Wo Warehouse, I was hit by several arrows and I don't think I can last much longer..." XR02 chuckled, if they were going to die at least they died at Lungmen soil, "This is a trap..."
They did fell for one before, but only a fool would spring a second one without a plan.
Before Ch'en could reply they continued, "Don't come until they all have left, I'll keep the intel with me they won't be able to find it." XR02 looked over the abandoned crates of chili oil and other foodstuffs used for Yen cuisine, if their position was given away by an unwarranted stomach growl then the guys in the clouds won't let them live that down. Still, the prospect of some Mapo Tofu is too hard to not salivate on.
Although, if they had time to think about that then they must have a lot of strength to spare.
"XR02 hang in there, the LGD are headed there soon. The intel on you is time-sensitive and we must have it now." Ch'en held her voice, even though she's cracking already. A lot of people she cared about are in danger or are hurt because of her weakness.
"I'm not sure, Madam Ch'en, I don't want to get in the way of your duties."
They knew that there was little chance of them walking out here then to a hospital, but Ch'en wasn't just going to give on them not now while she all but abandoned two already in pursuit of something fleeting.
"XR02 you aren't allowed to die, you must survive." The last part was not only aimed at them, it was wish to everyone else fighting the good fight in her absence.
XR02 chuckled weakly at Ch'en's determined order, truly there was no arguing against her, "I can't argue with you Madam Ch'en, please be careful...I hope Uncle Su's is untouched by this."
Their weakly jovial tone quickly shifted to a more serious tone and as they heard footsteps nearby, the connection was cut off.
"XR02? XR02!?" A few seconds later there was no response, the notification of the call being terminated mocking her as her face hardened.
"Hoshiguma." The Oni had an idea as to how that call went, "Let's go."
Hoshiguma readied her shield and Ch'en readied her sword, there was no time to waste.

Blaze shredded through the enemy defense like a blender, there was no mercy as she incapacitated every single enemy unfortunate enough to meet the wrong side of her chainsaw.
"Defenders, Phalanx!" The Doctor ordered, they would only get in the elite's way if they themselves charged in. Any Reunion or Yeti that Blaze deems irrelevant to her assault was met with the business end of Rhodes' weapons.
As he said that however he himself charged towards the enemy, the Doctor did not want to gamble on Blaze being stronger than the ice queen before them. At the very least he could provide support that no other Operator can. That did not make keeping up with her any easier though, he slashed through enemy after enemy that missed Blaze's streak of glory.
"Casters and Snipers provide cover fire!" Amiya was surprised at the Doctor's sudden advancement but understood what he seems to be doing. It would be foolish to let Blaze fight FrostNova on her own without someone who knows her strengths and weaknesses first-hand.
Cutting through stragglers who defended their post, he can see the hesitation some of them had as they realized who they were up against.
"We can't win!" A Reunion soldier unaffiliated with the Yeti screeched in panic, "We need Lady Talulah here if we have any hope of stopping those two."
The Yetis remain silent, they still have a way to turn things around or at least their leader has one but at what cost? FrostNova remained pensive as she herself was preparing for something else.
"Only saw you once or twice at work Doc but you sure know how to kick ass." Blaze commented as she pummeled a Soldier to the ground with her fist, "That weird sword is just not for show huh?"
"Mabufu!" Shards of ice tracked the ARTS bolts headed their way; intercepting them with ease, "Thank Hellagur for that, he's a superb teacher."
A crowd of soldiers tried to beat the Doctor with numbers but they where thrown backward by a strong thrusting gale of wind. The Doctor then followed his Gale Strike with another Mabufu spell, adding fear to their enemies as they saw the visage of Ophiuchus once more.
"That's your ARTS huh?" Blaze whistled in approval, "Very impressive, I'd say that's on par in with Amiya and the ice lady's ARTS."
The cat-girl heard that he managed to stave off the Reunion leader's ARTS as well but seeing is believing sometimes, why didn't it awaken when Ace and the others were…
No, she shouldn't think like that. If he could, he would have used it by that time. Besides, the people she should be critical of are right in front of her.
Her thoughts were broken as she raised her chainsaw to meet cold steel, their leader finally came to meet them head-on. Blaze smirked as she threw a burst of hot air towards her, the white rabbit dodged but the Feline expected her to do that.
"Guh!" Blaze kicked her on her side but she then flipped away from her foe's sword.
That attack should have knocked the wind out of her, she's a Cautus after all. One of the more fragile races compared to the rest of Terra's people.
"I see, you used your ice to soften the blow." Blaze took a step back, impressed at the ingenuity of her opponent, "If I didn't have my ARTS you could have frozen me easily."
"Do you always make small talk with your opponents?"
Blaze chuckled, "Nah, just the ones that give me a hard time."
"Blaze!" The Doctor called out, he threw his hooksword like a boomerang to cut down the drones above. They carried some sort of rocket that seems to be full of cold air and all of them fired towards the Feline.
Sensing it immediately, she swung her weapon harshly; the hot gust afterwards sent the rockets off course and they landed in inconsequential terrain. They coated the landscape with even more frost, if any of the Operators that were freezing got hit by that then they would be walking popsicles.
It appears that they have aren't just ruffians with a few drones on hand.
"Thanks for the save Doc, you guys doing alright there?" Blaze called out to her allies, "Must be have freezing like hell."
"No, you are already making things toasty compared to before." The Doctor replied, "Are you alright though? I can feel your breath getting hotter."
"I'm fine, still though I expected better Frosty." Blaze waved it off as all three combatants took a second to breathe, "Why aren't you using lethal ARTS?"
Compared to the ferocious blizzard from before, this was nothing but a little hail that Rhodes Island had little trouble to maneuver in. Was Blaze's ARTS that strong compared to the weakening Reunion leader.
No. That was not the case.
As FrostNova's coughs are any indication, just using her power is taking a toll on her body. The Infection ran deep within her it didn't took an expert in Oripathy to note that. The Doctor himself had noticed unlike the souls of the Reunion members that foraged from, even without doing so he can feel the lack of vitality within her.
"So that's why…" Blaze did not pity her, it would be an insult to the woman even though they are on opposite sides to do so.
"FrostNova...she…" Amiya stopped herself from finishing her words, she wondered what would have happened if they used their newfound power. How long would the Yeti Squadron last, will their leadership crumble like a poorly baked cookie? Ah, but they really were not there to slaughter fellow Infected they just want to save their friends and comrades.
"FrostNova's the name huh…" It was definitely their codename if Blaze had to guess her name is probably Natasha or Yelena, or any other common name in Ursus.
FrostNova stared sharply at Blaze and the Doctor before retreating to recuperate.
"We need to get out of here Amiya! There could be more Reunion on the way." Blaze quickly said to the young leader, "Do we have any injured? I can help carry-"
"So you're retreating?"
Blaze sighed as she stopped herself from retreating, "I'm going to politely suggest that you don't fight anymore, snow bunny." It wasn't because she sees the girl before as weak, no far from it in fact. However, if she decides to go fight then eventually she'll burn whatever she still has in her and like a candle be nothing but wax on the sidelines.
Nay, she was akin to a lit fuse rather than a candle.
"If you keep using your ARTS like that, you're going to die." Blaze said frankly, "You're just burning your life into power."
The Doctor nodded, in all honesty he too was doing that when using his Persona's physical attacks but unlike the snow rabbit his power is replenish-able. Still he was no stranger to self-sacrifice, if taking on a whole lot of Reunion during that mission was anything to go by.
"I don't have the right to criticize you on that front but I'd rather we and your squadron stop this fight." The Doctor laid his weapon down, still befuddled on why he's hesitating to fight her with his blade, "You and your squad are different from most of the Reunion we fought, you're kinder."
"Yeah, you guys can go to Rhodes Island after all we have ways to extend your lives." Blaze nodded, a tad bit surprised at what the Doctor said.
FrostNova looked at them like they were insane, yet judging by her gaze she was contemplating the idea.
"Don't look at me like that...I don't need your pity." She still had some form of pride after all the evils she let happen for their cause, she had long since accepted that to achieve her goal. Their goal.
"I don't pity you…" The Doctor looked crestfallen, clutching something in his pocket, "I just don't want anymore decent people to die under this stupid banner."
The memento that she gave them, the lasting actions she made to protect the few people her brother cared about. Perhaps there was some truth in that if Rhodes Island came sooner and met Talulah before she was consumed then no one would die on this battle they waged.
An image of a possible future where those kids where playing like normal children sprung to his mind.
All he knows now is that this banner of theirs is not fighting for that future anymore.
Amiya clutched her memento in silence as well, unwavering determination in her eyes.
"Well…" Blaze had an idea as to why he looked like that, "Do I look like I pity you? You're strong and I respect you."
"Why are you running away?" FrostNova decided to change the topic before she can be seduced by their words, they are still the words of the enemy after all. There still was no telling if they would even be free if she complied, she'd rather die a free soul than live a prisoner.
The snow rabbit coughed harsher than ever, some blood spilled out of her mouth and into the ground.
Then suddenly ice started to head towards them.
"Doctor, run! Don't look at her!" Blaze shouted and as they responded to the incoming attack, they find themselves fighting more Reunion forces. Did FrostNova entertain their conversation just for this moment? Maybe but even if it was a dirty tactic, the Doctor didn't feel betrayed or angry.
The Doctor chopped off an icicle quickly then with Honed Accuracy split the ice in twain with a strong Gale Strike.
"You're not leaving!" FrostNova declared with all her might as she gathered a storm of cold air around her. Her ferocity was unnerving as she continued to burn her life with such powerful ARTS.
"Sister! Don't use that now, not where you're standing!"
"We can't let them escape!" FrostNova shapely retorted, "Who knows what they will do to our people in Lungmen!"
Hearing this the Doctor exclaimed, "Crap, Ch'en and Hoshiguma!" They should have went all-out before! Reunion kept the reconnaissance squads alive so that they would go rescue them, they banked on Rhodes Island's own compassion for their comrades.
It was a despicable use of their own kindness.
As the cold air gathered more and more, shaking be heard down below.
"The temperature difference!" The Doctor exclaimed, "It's causing the structure to weaken!"
He tried to cast Sukukaja to hasten his retreat but to no avail, the cold was slowing him down more and more as he was near the nexus point of this living ARTS weapon. The only way this could have happened is if there was Originium already beneath the district. However according to what Eyjafyalla taught him, that could usually occur in natural areas.
Unless…
"They've planted Originium beneath the district!?" The Doctor incredulously said, hearing this Amiya quickly rallied everyone to get away from the street.
"Find stable ground! Get to a higher level!" Luckily, even Reunion isn't spared to this form of terrain warfare as they too were being busy to fall in the warping plates.
The Doctor and Blaze quickly carried off the injured first to safety one at a time, working double time as the man was feeling numb trying to keep with Blaze's speed as he himself was weakened and slowed down by frost. It was as if the air had a will of it's own sucking him in, he tried breaking another Agilao Gem to create a hot air current but even that was a temporary fix.
"Unbelievable...Reunion is capable of something like this." Meteorite said in awe as she went to safety along with Jessica.
As the Doctor finally went towards them to retreat the ground gave way, the levels below were attempting to cave him in and or squish him with the broken slabs concrete and steel.
He whipped out his grappling hook but to his shock the hook shattered, the metal string immediately hardened into cold metallic needles. As the metal scrap launched towards his eyes he closed the pair then covered his face with one hand as shrapnel grazed his cheek.
"Uh oh." Blaze channeled her ARTS towards the Doctor, "Dammit! Don't panic Doc I got ya!"
The Doctor can feel warm air enveloping his body as suddenly he felt his descent slow down. Somehow he had a feeling that if he decided to do anything while Blaze was doing her stuff he would fall to the ground like a pancake. If he didn't quickly switch to Shiki-Ouji anyway.
By the looks of it, Blaze was doing her damnedest even though this blanket of hot air was fragile. She doesn't have ARTS like that after all, the best she could is clump hot air together to make something like a parachute.
"Sorry, Doc if you move even a bit you'll get squashed." Blaze explained as she grunted through the taxation on her body, "Though I know you're more durable than an Oni thanks to that ARTS of yours, still you will fall either way."
"We'll come back for you, I promise." Blaze assured him, with a heavy heart she coaxed the hot air to slowly guide him down to the crevice of the fallout.
The Doctor nodded, he had total faith in them especially since like hell will Amiya let him stay in Chernobog again. He looked at them with confidence to ease their worries, he can see Frostleaf's eyes filled with worry, Jessica crying and Meteorite alarmed at what's happening
"Yeah, see ya soon."
As he descended down to the depths of the mobile city, he can only worry of what Kal'tsit or Ch'en would say if they heard what happened.
"Closure's gonna be livid when she finds out."

Even though they left the Ark and headed towards Lungmen, there was still time to prepare. Outside Rhodes and Lungmen personnel were suiting up and checking their gear. The Casters especially were so focused in tuning their equipment that they couldn't hear any noise.
"How's the remaining operational force of Rhodes Island?" Ch'en asked the Operator that delivered the message to them.
"That isn't information that we can disclose Madam Ch'en." Trace answered, "Our mission is to assist the LGD but that doesn't mean we are under your command."
Can't argue with that, Trace and the other Rhodes Operators are not to keen on revealing information that does not help them.
"I don't remember asking that."
Trace stopped himself and apologized, he said more than he needed too. He was nothing but an Operator and she was one of LGD elite, he had to at least respect that.
"It's fine." Ch'en assured him, "I was just curious as to Rhodes Island's situation and if there is any security concerns that the LGD can help you with."
Trace chuckled a bit, not to make fun of Ch'en but Reunion had largely given up on invading Rhodes Island as they were soundly defeated by them in the past. It took their leader for them to even have an edge against them after all.
"From various angles, the situation in Lungmen is harsher than what we usually have to deal with." Sometimes, the newer Sniper Operators would treat the mission as target practice whenever a Reunion squad decided it was a good idea to barge into Rhodes' territory, "Sorry...I hope that doesn't come as rude to you."
"So in other words, you don't need our help." Trace nodded. While she was glad that they aren't in any danger it felt weird to her that she wasn't asked to do anything. Rhodes Island really has their act together if the temporary loss of two of their leaders didn't result in total takeover of their base of operations.
"Well for the time being, the LGD does need a small favor from you."
This picked up Trace's interest, why would their leader need a favor from them. Ch'en came off as somebody who would do things her own way without relying on the help of others, not to mention a faction that doesn't care if they have Infected on their staff.
"Reunion has blocked off the main road leading to the docks and we need your help in creating an opening." Ch'en narrowed down the path on her map, "Time is running short for the LGD, so we need to do this quickly."
As soon as Ch'en requested that from him Trace picked up a notification from his phone. After seeing it he put it aside and chuckled, "Well, about that..."
"No need to go, apparently Doctor Kal'tsit already saw that to be the case and sent a squad to deal with that earlier." That explains why Zima was eagerly hauling her ax before.
"Really? That was quick."
"That just Rhodes Island's way of obliging on our contracts Madam."
Still though, that was pretty quick. Then again even Trace fought against the Reunion Movement before and they were surprisingly weak. Their strongest in terms of firepower are usually Casters and even then you can tell that they weren't really educated in using ARTS. It was sort of like crude magic or an animal shooting poison to protect itself, the weapon is there but it is not refined enough to fight against anyone with basic training.
"Considering what they did to Chernobog and what they did to our squads, we expected them to be more of a threat than they actually are."
Trace saw some of his co-workers go into the ER due to some ice-based ARTS earlier yet, among the Reunion he previously fought they was nothing special about them.
Guess the mission briefing was accurate to a tee, if the issue before was already resolved as easy as clockwork. The only thing that was complicated about this is that they currently don't know what Reunion is planning to do.
Heck, the Doctor doesn't even know and he secretly hangs out with two of them. Not that anybody is aware of that particular piece of information.
"Don't let your guard down, that's their biggest strength and they know it." Their unpredictable nature was tougher than their actual combat capabilities, they are comprised of the beaten dogs of society after all. Anybody with a hint of common sense would be wary of the dangers of a cornered animal.
Perhaps it was their limited capabilities that made so difficult to react on, they know that they couldn't win against them in a straightforward fashion so they made what they were strong at worth more than it normally should.
But just because their commanders have unknown abilities that they leverage to its fullest doesn't mean Rhodes Island and the LGD aren't capable of a little information warfare of their own.
"I'm aware of that, given that they managed to take down Chernobog and Lungmen." Trace sighed before continuing, "Their true numbers may be well over our imagination."
"Having said that, didn't the LGD accompany Amiya on a mission to investigate the Chernobog ruins Madam Ch'en" If their group was here then the Lungmen siege may as well be a stroll, "How come they haven't come back yet?"
Hoshiguma went silent, but Ch'en did not waver or at least faltered for such a minute second that it was unnoticeable.
"I'm sorry..." Ch'en did not make excuses, all that happened was what happened there was no denying it, "We were separated from Amiya's squad, we weren't able to rendezvous with them and due to an emergency we had to turn around."
She had to prioritize her home over the people she found a kinship with, Amiya and the Doctor would never hold it against her; they weren't the kind to do so, at least that's what she understood from them.
And yet...why did she question her own explanation?
"Are you saying that you and the LGD just abandoned Amiya and the Doctor there?" Trace didn't shouted but his body language screamed of fury. Ch'en was fully aware of the consequences of her actions, if Rhodes Island lost their two most important members today then it was all her fault.
Her mistake and by extension Lungmen's.
If they ever survive this and those two don't, then Rhodes Island might go after them and she definitely wouldn't have the heart to fight against the people she inadvertently wronged.
"...Yes." There was nothing more that she could say, she abandoned them once and then twice. It pained her to admit it but like a band-aid it was better rip it all off than slowly peel it.
"In other words, they're MIA?" Trace said in that monotonously professional tone's she was accustomed to hear, "Why...Madam Ch'en even then you shouldn't have done that. Even if you are the LGD you shouldn't have abandoned your comrades."
"This is my fault. My mission was to prioritize Lungmen's safety and I made choices that adhered to it." She didn't excuse herself but that made Trace more ticked off if anything.
He looked at Ch'en with disapproval and disdain for her actions, no matter how logically sound it may have been there was no reason why she would just give on them like that.
"What difference does it make?" He seethed through his teeth, barely containing his disgust, "Forget about it Officer, there's no point in talking about this further."
"I should have known better, but that's all you see in us Infected ain't it?" Trace scoffed, "How many Operators do you need, some might help you but I'm not one of them."
"With that said, we have our missions and defeating Reunion is just one of them."
Before Trace bowed out and regroup with his assigned squad he said, "I'll let you know if anyone is willing to join you, oh and be careful not to hit your allies by mistake even if we are Infected."
"That's not what I meant..." Ch'en couldn't even argue back as the man left in a hurry. He was right however, there was no point in arguing about it or her views on the Infected it doesn't change the reality of the situation, "Well it's fine...they don't have to force themselves."
She left Amiya and the Doctor to fend for themselves. Whatever people may of think of her after the fact is her own damn fault.
Hoshiguma sighed as Trace finally left, "Strange, I was under the impression that your talk with Swire was meant to drum up support from them." There was no denying that Ch'en was acting extremely out-of-character ever since the mission in the slums, the Oni could only wonder what she had seen ever since.
"That wasn't my intention, I'm not that kind of person Hoshiguma."
"I know." Hoshiguma replied, "I'd prefer a little more forthcoming attitude from you just now, but you look strangely relieved."
"I abandoned my friends Hoshiguma, there was no denying it even if I would have liked that it wasn't the case." Ch'en stared at the ground, looking at a puddle that carried her reflection, "I deserve to be talked at like that."
"In any case, be thankful that they are still willing to help us after that. I can understand why he would be angry at you, I probably would if I were in his position." Hoshiguma's words felt good to hear to the dragon lady, "I myself don't understand why you abandoned Amiya's squad so easily even if it was an emergency, you didn't even think for a brief moment."
"There were too many unknown variables." That was the best answer Ch'en could come up with.
The terrain alone made it difficult for the LGD to move and they had no means to gauge Reunion's operational capacity especially in their own base of operations, there was no way Ch'en would ever think continued onward was a good idea.
Or at least that was her explanation.
"I'm not convinced." Ch'en wasn't an inexperienced leader, if anything they should be used to dealing with unknowns. Heck, Rhodes Island did not see any issue when they went into the belly of the beast so what was Ch'en's squad lacking?
There was no point in further discussion, Ch'en frustratingly sighed.
"Hoshiguma, our plans are already laid out."
"Orders are orders and I will obey them, although I'd rather hear them from you than Swire." Hoshiguma narrowed her eyes at her superior, even with a glance she can tell that Ch'en doesn't even believed in the crap she's saying.
"Until the conditions are met, the specifics is confidential."
Hoshiguma let out an amused chuckle, "I see...so it is his orders again?"
"You're free to speculate."
"Who else could it be Ch'en?" The only person that would make Ch'en act so shady was that man, and while she appreciates what the man has done for this city there was no way in hell is she ever gonna respect such deceit. After all this whole fiasco and the incident before that was just more fuel for that fire.
"It's all necessary..."
"Are you sure? Or are you convincing yourself that to be true?" Ch'en didn't reply to that question and instead asked another LGD Member to contact Swire.
"Hello?" Swire immediately responded as soon as she was called.
"We're ready to begin the operation Swire."
"Took you long enough, finally have the strength to be a piece of shit again?" Swire tried to taunt the dragon girl again, that's their usual routine however and their enemies are always the punching bags of Ch'en's fury anyway.
"Swire..." However Ch'en was really not in the mood for their usual spiel "I'd rather focus on the mission at hand right now."
The task at hand was not easy after all, retaking their base of operations is hard in itself but there was so much to look out for. Not to mention, they still have to rescue the men that were already inside.
Ch'en hoped that XR02 was still holding on, she owes him a plate of Mapo Tofu at that restaurant at the very least.
"Tch, you're no fun at all today." The rich cat grumbled, "With that said, you really are adamant in not letting Rhodes Island intervene? Why is that? Because if this is some form of atonement..."
Combining their strength, especially when their goals line up perfectly seemed like the most reasonable request in the world. LGD wants their base of operations back as well as get Reunion out of their home and Rhodes wants to detain Reunion for their actions, if Swire was in command she'll try to get as much mileage as possible.
Too bad she isn't.
"I have faith in them, especially those two."Ch'en quickly cut off, "But that is exactly why I didn't want them to get involved, this mission is as complicated enough as it is."
Those two aren't here with them at the moment, she has total faith in their capabilities to not just die in Chernobog. However she wondered if she could ever face the two again after all this is over.
"I also don't want Kal'tsit to drag herself into this, she's nice off duty but she's a maverick. She'll definitely not comply with our own plans." At least she knows that the woman has good intentions, still breaching their protocol however so that cannot slide.
"Oh yeah you're pretty chummy with them..." Swire grumbled, her work nemesis being friends with the Doctor who was up until now was secretly the vocalist from that new band she liked, "So what's the other doctor like?"
"A bit like your grandfather, although without the ventilator."
Meaning extremely ancient as all hell.
"Either way, let's just focus on our jobs." Ch'en readied herself to take off after all, "I'm going on ahead, I still have somebody to find."
"Whatever, just make sure you're not late."
Ch'en chuckled at her co-worker's dismissive tone and set off. With her blade at the ready, she was determined to atone for her mistakes.
That's her duty as the Superintendent after all.

Atop a skyscraper in Lungmen, there was somebody watching the battlefield's sparks. Almost bored at the sight of people fighting for beliefs, their home, or friends, they yawned at the farce that was happening before their eyes.
A farce in their perspective anyways.
"So it has begun then?" They asked no one in particular, there wasn't anyone to hear them speak, "I guess it is time I make my move."
They looked at the analog watch they just happened to come by when Reunion was causing chaos with more interest than what is currently going on. They weren't impressed at the million LMD price tag wristwatch in the slightest.
"Perhaps this time, I'll experience a modicum of entertainment."
As soon as they finished their musing the figure disappeared at the building's top, almost like their existence wasn't even there to begin with.
- Turn End -
Extra Turn: Friday Night Funk
Work can get hectic sometimes, even with the prodigious way the Doctor can process paperwork he still had other duties besides that. When Kal'tsit is busy he had to synthesize the special drugs they use on his own, conveniently ignoring that Folinic and Suzuran are usually there to keep an eye on him.
Thanks to his Associates he has to wear different masks for different duties. During the times he's not the vocalist of Rhodes' first native band he's keeping his end of the bargain with Closure. He nearly even broke an arm in one experiment, though that's small potatoes when you have Dia and Medics strewn about this mobile city for a pharmaceutical company.
Come to think of it, he never really saw the more commercial face of Rhodes Island. He used Rhodes Island shampoo and balm before and they were great so it was strange that he never really got exposed to that scene. You'd think Kal'tsit or Amiya would have steered him along that avenue given the overwhelming success MASK had compared to its underground origins.
In no small part thanks to the Emperor's pseudo-sponsorship.
It still surprises him that he still has time to bond with his co-workers and Associates even with all the stuff he has to manage, even going out to the nearby city of Lungmen to eat the local cuisine or do some random Samaritan stuff.
"However..." The Doctor trailed off as he looked at the calendar on his desk, with red marker circling around the date, "Today is the day..."
It was Friday.
The only day were can worry about himself and not just rest all day, he may have no memories of his prior life but he knows how to have fun.
"Doctor, are you free tonight?" Angelina suddenly came through the door of his office, "I was thinking of..."
"Sorry." The Doctor humbly denied her invitation, it wasn't because he doesn't like the idea of spending time with Angelina, "I already made plans tonight..."
Hearing this Angelina's ears drooped in sadness, "I see..."
The Doctor didn't like seeing her or any one of his dear co-workers sad like that at all, "To make it up to you how about we go get some coffee at Chagall tomorrow?" They have the best tasting lattes and cold brew he tried and now buys his own coffee beans there, he chuckled in the back of his head as he remembered Kal'tsit bugging him for a cup after she took in the aroma of his during work.
"You mean it Doctor?" Angelina shouted in excitement her eyes were lit up for some reason.
"I promise, about 7:30 if you don't mind."
"I don't, alright I'll see you tomorrow." Angelina made a mad dash out of his office in excitement, confusing the Doctor.
The Doctor let his jacket hang on his chair as he dressed up, he was debating on wearing a white tuxedo with a red shirt underneath but decided against it. Instead he favored a dark maroon coat with a black designer shirt and some black skinny jeans, they were perfect for both style and mobility in his eyes and it was a gift from Jessica. It would be a shame to not use it, given the price tag and the thoughts and feelings the Feline put into it and it the grappling hook was even concealed well.
He quickly made sure he got everything he needed, not forgetting the most important thing he should bring on his person.
A red invite card to Club Escapade.

"Come on Kal, hurry up!" Closure shouted at the door as Kal'tsit was taking too long to change her outfit.
Now why does the lynx that doesn't even leave her workplace picking am outfit you may ask? It all started because of Closure, of all the times that she has nothing on her plate...
"You don't need to shout!" She fired back, "Just give a moment alright?"
Why is she even thinking of what she should wear tonight? Heavily sighing, she opted for a black blazer with a white dress shirt for her top and a black skirt to complement it.
Kal'tsit would have looked more like an office lady if she added a tie to her ensemble.
"Honestly, why I do even agree to these suggestions of yours?" Kal'tsit exasperatedly told to herself, the answer to that is probably because she's a pushover when can't use work as an excuse. Or because a part of her is curious and adventurous, usually that kind of mentality kills cats.
After confirming her choice of wardrobe she headed outside to meet Closure and Warfarin, the only colleagues that she'll agree to go on a girl's night on even though she can't stand their antics.
"Ah, what's with that face Kal?" Warfarin teased, "We're all here to go have fun."
Their idea of fun is what worries her.
"Relax, we're just going to a nightclub to drink and flirt with hot people." Closure joked, "Just kidding the club is fun in the more liberating sense anyways." Relationships and flings aren't the vampire's way of life, given that they have that in spades.
"What kind of club is that place even?" Kal'tsit dared to ask, she's been in a number of clubs in her long life but even that place was to new to her.
Warfarin smirked as if she already had been there before.
"Oh, you'll see."
0o0
One cannot help but stare at the Doctor when he went outside, especially since most of the people who are living in the Ark have seen or worked with the man. It was a good thing Kal'tsit and Amiya have vested interest in his protection or otherwise he would be mobbed by people because of that side career as a singer.
Maybe he should wear less hoods more often? Nah, perish the thought.
Standing outside the doors of Club Escapade, the Doctor can see the long line the place has amassed. There were even some familiar faces, like the ABC trio of Aosta, Broca, and Chiave waiting in line.
Strange too, given that this place was only established in a week or so and he knows when plans of making this building happened because if anybody wants to build something in the Ark.
Well such documents go to him before they are approved.
"Of course Closure would approve of this..." Anything related to new infrastructures go to him then to her for full approval and that's were she turns his visit to experimentation time.
With such a crowd any regular person, Operator or otherwise would have to reserve in advance or "generously" tip the bouncers to get in. Even then they had to wait in line.
Still, he had no reason to wait.
"Halt, you have to wait in line to check your reservation tonight sir." The bouncer told to the Doctor, his intimidating figure did not scare the Doctor one bit.
He smirked and produced a red card from his pocket.
"Ah, apologies. You may proceed VIP." The bouncer stammered and the Doctor was easily let in to the club, causing a few onlookers to throw a fit.
He had no idea why someone would give him a pass for a new club but he's not the type to waste someone's generosity. It wouldn't hurt to be on guard too, because all of this is suspicious in the first place.
Going inside, he was taken aback at what he saw.
He expected the seedy bars that W and him sometimes go through during a contract but this was far stranger.
It was quite the opposite actually.
Everyone was having the least rated-18 fun he has ever seen, people were dancing in the disco floor some were even playing games like Shogi and Chess. There was even an arcade mostly focused on rhythm games like Beat! Beat! Rebellion alongside a bar that caters to both minors and mature people alike.
"Wow, I expected something..." The Doctor was at a loss for words, but then he saw an unfamiliar hand raised towards him. It seemed to be one of the staff of this club, they were there to greet him huh? Have they expected his arrival?
The staff member bowed with grace towards him, "We are pleased that you decided to visit us tonight, Doctor." There was no hint of deception within their soul, "A formal welcome from Club Escapade, I see that your initial impression was betrayed?"
"I..." The Doctor didn't want to offend such a forthcoming employee but the staff just chuckled.
"It is alright, most clubs in this world rely on such distasteful methods to please their patrons." They looked at Flamebringer and Meteorite dancing at the dance floor having the time of their lives pleased, "Club Escapade understands what the weary soul truly needs, company, fun, and self-expression."
They made it very difficult for their patrons to not have in this place, that's for sure. The Doctor could even make out some of the more stoic Operators getting jiggy with the music.
"Please, as our very first VIP we would like you to enjoy yourself tonight." The staff member then took their leave, and with that the Doctor might as well have some fun.
Though he will abstain from alcohol, lord knows that he has no one else to help him back to his room after all.
He was about to step into the dance floor but was interrupted by someone's loud gasp.

"Doc!?" Closure gasped at the Doctor's presence in the club, "I didn't expect you'd be into this place." The Sarkaz mechanic was certainly dressed for the occasion, he see the glistening of freshly washed hair from the usually oily and messy foliage it once was. Her dress was more ladylike but she wasn't daft enough to wear high heels in a nightclub.
Next to her was Warfarin wearing a more punkish look, ever since she was promoted she couldn't be seen without the "Vampire" T-shirt she was given. She was just as surprised as her fellow vampire when they saw him.
"I was cordially invited by their staff." The Doctor showed his VIP pass to them, "It would be rude of me to not at least check it out.
"An invitation from an unknown third-party and you did not inform us?" A new voice echoed from behind them, "Are you sure that was wise?"
The third person was something that surprise the Doctor this time, "Kal'tsit?"
"Hmm, judging by that tone you didn't expect to be here..." Kal'tsit said in usual cold tone, "Although, you'd be right however my question from earlier..."
"You'd really think they would do something on our home turf?" The Doctor raised his eyebrow, "And aren't you any better? Going with the two of the most important Operators in our company.
The two stared at each other with narrowed eyes unable to take their gaze off of each other.
"Pfft." Until the Doctor coughed off a laugh, "Hahahahahahaha..."
"Hahahahahahaha..." Kal'tsit followed suit, laughing with the other Doctor. This was a disturbing sight to the two Sarkaz women she was with, they've never seen the woman even express a positive emotion before.
"Ahh..." The Doctor took out a tear from his eye, "I'm glad to see you here to be honest..."
"Why is that exactly?" Kal'tsit curiously asked.
"Here I thought, I would spend the night alone is all..." The Doctor nervously chuckled but Closure and Warfarin choked at his words.
The two knew it was bullshit, if the Doctor asked them most Operators would comply. Hell, some of them are even more than willing to keep him company.
"Oh...are you asking me to go with you?"
"Ah well..." The Doctor then realized what he just said in embarrassment, "I mean to say that..."
"Hmm...why not? You did venture to this place alone." There was a certain teasing undertone in Kal'tsit's words, she may have been jabbing at him for coming to a club without anyone to accompany him. Although for the life of her, she can't seem to understand the feeling of relief at him being alone.
Whatever it was, it was probably unimportant.

With the Doctor's VIP card on hand, the two Sarkaz girls fully exploited his presence. Much to the lynx and the Doctor's dismay they were absolutely shit-faced, dancing to the beat of the song on the dance floor.
"Come on, Doc put a little show for us." Warfarin beckoned, "I'm a big fan of your little side project you know."
Kal'tsit eyed the drink she ordered from the bar, "What is in these things?" Normally, even your average Sarkaz wouldn't be easily affected by alcohol but after a few swigs of their beverages the two elites of Rhodes were drunk out of their minds. Swallowing her fears, the woman took a sip of the cocktail she chose; it was a little ringer called "The Verdant Wind"
"Holy-" The potency of the cocktail was only felt once it reached the back of her throat, "That was strong! This might even be borderline "unfit for consumption" alcohol."
"Really?" The Doctor looked at his "Blue Lion" with intrigue, he then took a sip of his, "Eh, not really."
"Hmm? Well that's to be expected." They did order different drinks after all. Although hang on, now that it came back to her wasn't the only difference between these cocktails was the syrup and flavor added. The booze was still the same base for all six of the "House Specials" according to the bar menu.
The two Sarkaz went down on some Black Eagles and Crimson Flowers and after a few cocktails, this was the result: a duo of vampires partying like it's the last day of their long long lives.
"C'mon Doc, Kal dance with us..." Closure slurred as she can't keep her balance straight, as she beckoned the two to come join them she almost bumped into Ethan and Midnight, "Hey guys, whaddaya if they danced?"
The two in question were not liking the increasingly loud chants of "Dance!" directed at them.

After a lot of peer pressure from a lot of drunk and tipsy people, they swallowed their pride. She didn't know if it was the alcohol doing its job or that she was taken in by the atmosphere but she wanted to bust a move anyways. So did the man with her, the Doctor had a vacant grin on his face similar to the expression he puts on when he was performing as "Hood"
The music played and so did they.
(Track: Friday Night from Yakuza 0)
The Doctor took the lead, raising the stage and his hands as he rhythmically walked towards his dance partner. Kal'tsit followed suit, with every step that she took she can feel her worries slip away.
They can hear the whistling of the crowd as they danced, but with every note they seemed like complements to the song they are dancing too. Kal'tsit grooved to the music as her coat fluttered in the disco floor, the sweat on her neck glistening in the light.
She looked at her dance partner, the dark maroon coat of his fluttering with every footstep he made, the stupid smile on his face as with every move it felt like he was shaking off something latched onto his back. The lynx woman smiled at him, happy that they were able to find a moment of peace even if it's for tonight.
Like the Doctor beside her, she too didn't want to waste this chance.
Kal'tsit turned with superior grace towards him, within that elegance was sort of longing finally fulfilled. With each step and move she made to the beat she can feel the bond she had with this strange man deepen, a man she once hated with all her fiber.
Perhaps now she can see that they weren't that different, they were just two tired and weary souls looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. Cursed to some degree, but now that didn't matter. All she could care about now was the dance and who she was dancing with, she'll leave the caring to the her of tomorrow.
The Doctor stylishly paced with the song's rhythm, his own moves were in perfect sync with Kal'tsit's. He knew that this moment was fleeting but that just means that he should savor it more. He gently took Kal'tsit's hand and she allowed herself to be taken in by the man's alluring digits. Spinning around him like threads unraveling from a loom, she took it as her last chance.
As the song reached the finale they danced in unison this time, the harsh yet graceful movements were in sync as if they were united in grasping this moment all of themselves. Their greed was enrapturing the hearts of the those in the crowd, they were not satisfied with just the audience's hearts however it was time for the finishing touch.
The Doctor took her hand once more and they let themselves be entwined like a braid of rope, him staring at her green eyes as Kal'tsit was staring at his orbs. Her slanted body was at an angle of perfection.
The crowd went wild as the song ended.

All things were fleeting, as the night went on day came faster than anyone could have perceived. The head of the Medical Department would soon wake up on an unfamiliar bed, she would realized that it was the Doctor's and would assess the situation in a panic in order to confirm what might have happened that night.
She would then realized her clothes from that night were still on her body and see blankets on the couch in the Doctor's room. Following that relief would be the scent of something good coming from the Doctor's kitchen and will be treated to a rare instance of the man's hospitality. As she would then eat the gracious breakfast he prepared for her, she would then realize that this was the "maternal" treatment her co-workers would often get with the man.
"What a warm feeling..."
"At least, that's what I and they will know..." A smooth womanly voice cooed to her martini.
In a the highest penthouse of a nearby hotel, a silver-haired woman eyed her drink in intrigue. She was lost in her thoughts as the olive skewer spun around like a record player's needle. As soon as the night ended Club Escapade faded like a bubble on a glass of champagne.
Almost like it was a fleeting dream.
"Madame? Are you sure this is wise?" Her secretary asked, "The patrons our club had these past few days exceeded what was expected."
"It did well for a pop-up bar no?" She jovially asked to her aide, even now her secretary couldn't believe that club was a pop-up bar for her standards.
Granted that they rented out a vacant area from the Ark, but it was as easily built as it was disassembled by the woman she was working for. She could still recall the utter joy on her Madame's face as she comically sauntered with a hard hat, throwing bricks around like they were making a castle of cards.
To this day, she still doesn't understand what her race was. Sometimes she would wear cat ears, then demon horns, or if the situation calls for it she'll stick a clearly fake tail on herself.
"Relax, it's not like I will just cancel Club Escapade like that." They waved it off nonchalantly, "The reason as to why I chose to partner with them is because I wanted to give someone a bit of repose..."
"Repose..." Their secretary did not follow her line of thought, "Why so?"
The woman did not answer her question as she instead looked at the sky with a bit of longing. Remembering better days for the world, where things weren't that extreme.
"How long was it since that day..." Even she couldn't remember how many years has it been since she met him. She never really understood the mortals that crave immortality, they were nothing but a dime a dozen fools in her eyes. They craved something they had no business of wanting, how could they ever want a tireless and endless life is beyond even her understanding.
It was only through him facing life and not avoiding death did she understood what it meant for humans to live.
"Ah well...I know for a fact that someone there needed that brief rest for sure." They played dumb, she knew her secretary didn't buy her explanation she was being solemn for a while after all.
Her secretary shrugged and decided to drop her question, "Either way, you have a meeting with some of the staff Ms. Elizabeth."
"Haha, thank you for that."
Elizabeth looked at her drawer to see an old elevator girl's cap, a tattered fake gun and a blank tarot card. As her secretary dismissed themselves she looked at the card with interest, pondering on what she should do next she smiled.
"The arcana is the means by all is revealed, that never changes even now."

Extra Turn: The Thoughts of a Mercenary I
I have to wonder sometimes if war is the only way our kind could ever strive.
It's hypocritical to think like that as I enjoy the carnage I cause in battle too, although nowadays I feel the joke is getting stale.
It always goes like this, I go out there and people explode and as they do I laugh at their horrified expressions. Although if I were to be honest even that lacks any thrill anymore.
Here I am musing to myself in a cafe at Lungmen under broad daylight waiting for that man.
There was something Ines had said to the old man about him, the Doctor I mean. In the battlefield we are inanimate objects compared to him, like he was the only one alive the only person possessing any sort of agency. As much as I hate it I couldn't help but agree with her.
His ability to command others to kill and die for his objective was abnormal, the efficiency of his commands and the contingencies in case an opponent was tougher than anticipated it was like he was playing a game of chess.
Living was by his grace and by his will.
I wouldn't even be surprised if he managed to take over Ursus with his ability almost like it was precognition, I was nowhere near his level even though there should be no problem for me to shoot him in the head. Even if he is frail, staring into his figure gave me goosebumps and fear.
Out of character for a girl who lives in the moment I know, I can see why Theresa trusts him even though I dislike it. At least that old coot Kal'tsit shares my feelings on that regard.
And now killing him while he was defenseless is nothing but a pipe dream, he had power that can eclipse Talulah's after all. However, I wondered if he was truly the same man as he once was. There was the possibility of him faking his amnesia but that wouldn't explain that infectious kindness and compassion that oozes out of him.
Even before they left that hellhole of a mobile city, he took time to heal my injuries that were caused by him. A thing he had no business doing as I can clearly see he was at his limit there.
These days, I worry that would doubt my initial suspicions of him. A part of me wants to believe that but the rest of me is questioning what should do next if so...
Wherever the wind takes me I guess.

Review Notes
Ultimate Kuuga: I'm very familiar with the gacha game scene, I tend to reference a lot of games and shows I know or play here, especially in the Extra Turn segments. Anybody who finds the references gets a digital cookie from Sherry (lol)
Oh and thanks for the compliments.
nguyenan828: Trust me, I plan to incorporate Starset into this one way or another. Although singing may be too early to add to MASK's repertoire.
Author Notes
Sorry for the wait guys, to be honest the reason as to why this took so long is because firstly, I was always so exhausted these recent days. I was basically burn-out mentally and couldn't really make a whole lot of progress in any of my projects.
I decided to take some of you guys' advice and take a breather for a few days. Stardew Valley coincidentally was also on sale during that time and it relieved some of my stress to say the least.
Secondly, now that we are reaching to the climax of the Reunion Arc I wanted to have a lot more care given to the following chapters since this is part where Persona and Arknights will intersect in equal magnitudes.
Finally, is I waited for any lore drops on the CN server's new event Vigilo. The event which PRTS plays a major role in.
Thank you guys really for sticking around and thank you to the new readers who favorited and followed this work. As always I'll do my best to deliver great chapters and a great conclusion to this story.
Now that I said that, I plan to branch out not only to Arknights but to the gacha games I am pretty fond of. Suffice to say Persona RX is my main priority and upload schedule wise they will not be infringing on the frequency of this story's updates to say the least.
I'm starting with a side-fic for Genshin Impact. It's basically a slice-of-life style of fanfiction so expect to see that after the initial release of this chapter in the future.
Hence, I'm branching out the Discord Server to all Gacha Game Writers I guess. So as always if anybody wants to join then just PM me, things there are always unanimous so there's no power-tripping folk there.
Next Turn: Turn 11: A Mid-Summer Knight
"Keep an open mind."
