Casual Racism
"The war took a lot out of us, and I don't think any of us were the same at all... Ironically, it was only my year of Gryffindors that survived intact. Most people think the war was over after Hogwarts but it really was... Kingsley Shacklebolt organised what was left of the Auror Corp and retook the Ministry - getting himself named Minister at the same time" the old man sighed and drank his Firewhiskey. "A lot of us, mainly those in the DA, felt that he was trying to put into place Dumbledore's early policies and so pushed back. Typically for Purebloods, they ignored us and praised themselves for training us to fight the Death Eaters"
"If they could train you, why not take care of Voldemort themselves?"
"That is something Harry has asked himself for decades. He found out a few years later that the supposed prophecy was already fulfilled and that he had been kept away from a loving home for no reason by Albus Dumbledore. Well, Harry got mad at that and took Dumbledore's estate to court and won everything. After that, Kingsley offered him a place in the Auror Corp bit he turned it down flat because he'd had enough of fighting"
"What did he do? "
"He would get up, have breakfast and then sit in the library at Grimmauld Place and read books until evening. Sometimes, he would take his Firebolt out and fly around until he almost died" the man snorted his drink. "He told me once he felt free and the master of his own destiny"
"Sounds like you were a good friend"
"Most of the time"
"I don't understand"
"A lot of times I was extremely jealous of Harry for being so rich. It took me years to realise that Harry was jealous of me, of Hermione and almost everybody else"
"How so?"
"We had families. We had all the love we wanted, but Harry had nothing but pain and suffering caused as the result of a hack"
"Hack? "
"Trelawny... She made a prediction about defying Voldemort but she got it plain wrong. It was, perhaps, the cause of everything that we went through"
"What did he do after all this?"
"Stayed very much out of things but he used to get his laughs in funny ways. If there was a motion in the Wizengamot to restrict Muggleborns, he'd simply sit in his chair and not say a word - the motion never carries even now. I remember one time he was found already in the chamber with the Sword of Gryffindor and some polish... Anyway, Harry lived his life and settled down with a woman he loved as much as anybody"
"Miss Li"
"Yeah... His one regret is that stupid law that says members must marry people from this country - otherwise he'd have married Su in a heartbeat. They've wanted children for years, but any would be thought of as bastards and Harry will not do that to her"
"What about yourself?" asked the reporter. "Did you not marry a Muggleborn? Is that not nearly the same thing? I mean, are they really citizens?" and Ron's eyes flashed with a sudden anger and was about to go for his wand when he heard a thud and looked back up to see a sword sticking out of the table before them.
"I can abide many things" somebody said as they stepped forward from the shadows with purpose and grace, "But never a racist. Now you can deal with me"
"Or" said another voice from the other side of the room, and the reporter looked to see an old man who had seen all of the horrors of war approach her with the most amazing green eyes holding a glowing wand, "If you prefer, you can deal with me... "
