If you are reading this chapter after April 2019, know that I admit to being a hypocrite.

After reluctantly watching 'Zombies 2', I had an idea that wouldn't work until this story was finished, because it was the sequel to this story. Then, after watching 'Zombies 3', I had another idea come to mind that would help the idea of aliens existing transition smoother than it did in the movies.

As you can see, the eleven chapters that were posted have been deleted. I am in the process of editing/combining them to add more detail and to slightly change the plot of the story. It is mainly my alien transition idea, the existence of Eliza's father—as he was alive in the first iteration of this story—and further heighten Eliza's fear of zombie solitaire.

I am going to post a chapter every other day for the chapters I have edited. Once those are all posted, I will start doing weekly updates for the new plot. Instead of creating sequel stories for my other ideas, this story will have all three plot ideas—since it is highly likely that less people will read a separate story to find out what happens next.

Without any further interruptions, enjoy.

A popular story known to most people is one about a girl and a zombie.

But have you ever heard the story about a boy and a zombie?

A few decades ago, in the city known as Seabrook, there was an accident in a power plant caused by someone knocking over their lime soda on the control modulators. The fizzy drink short-circuited the wiring and created a massive explosion, which turned nearly half of Seabrook's citizens into zombies.

Finally, after so many years of living in fear and being segregated, zombie teens were now allowed to attend Seabrook High—

Which just happened to be the start of Bucky's sophomore year and the first year of him being cheer captain.

To the people of Seabrook, Bucky was their cheer champion. The city had been on a losing streak with the cheer championship—which a Seabrook founder had created—for years until Bucky joined the cheer squad his freshman years. His out-of-the-world flips and tricks were what won over the judges at the competition and won him the spot as the cheer captain. Everyone was just amazed that he could land such difficult flips with ease. It was like he could bend the laws of gravity to do whatever he wanted!

But that's enough of his athletic abilities for now.

Along with this being the first day for zombies, it was the also Addison's—Bucky's cousin—first day of freshman year. Wanting to be a supportive cousin, Bucky decided he would walk with his cousin to the high school, help her talk out any nervousness she had.

Knocking on the front door for a beat of three, Bucky walked into his aunt's and uncle's home, seeing them scrambling around in the kitchen as they hurried to get everything ready for the day while their daughter was doing the same upstairs. Bucky's aunt and uncle were a very powerful married couple in Seabrook. Uncle Dale is the Chief of Zombie Patrol, while Aunt Missy is the mayor of Seabrook.

"Good morning, Bucky!" Aunt Missy greeted, over-exaggeratedly smiling at her nephew. "Have you had something to eat? I can find you something or give you money to stop somewhere."

"I'm fine, Aunt Missy," Bucky assured with a strained smile. "My neighbor brought me something this morning before I left."

"Has the insurance check come in this month?" Uncle Dale wondered, placing his walkie-talkie in his belt before tying his black tie. "Do you have enough money to buy dinner tonight?"

"I promise you, I am fine," Bucky reassured. "I've been putting a majority of each check into a savings account, the same one Grandma Angie created after the accident. If nothing happens, I should have enough money to last a few months."

"If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask us for help," Aunt Missy insisted, her smile faltering for a moment. "I know my little brother would have done the same for Addison."

Before Bucky could say something to cheer up the atmosphere, his perky cousin skipped down the stairs in a pretty pink dress. He was about to greet her, until he noticed a sliver of white peeking out from her blonde hair. Approaching her, Bucky neatly tucked the strand back under the blonde, like it was a usual occurrence.

"Your hair was showing again," Bucky claimed after taking a step back. "I think you need a bigger wig. This one is getting too small."

"We ordered one a few days ago but it's running late. We're hoping it will be here before the Cheer Championship." Uncle Dale informed, sighing in aggravation when he noticed the time. "I have to go. Will you join us for dinner tonight?"

"Maybe some time this week," Bucky promised half-heartedly. "With cheer tryouts today, I'm going to be busy the next couple days figuring out where to place the new recruits in our routine."

"Well I will see you then and you lovely ladies tonight." After giving his wife a kiss on the cheek, Uncle Dale hurried out the door to catch a ride with his co-worker.

Trying to get rid of the tension in the room, Addison exclaimed happily, "I can't wait for cheer tryouts today! I've been practicing my routine for days!"

"You're going to do great, Cuz," Bucky commented with a confident smile. "Cheer is in our blood. Literally. Dad and Aunt Missy's cheer squad was the last to win the championship before I helped win it last year."

"And you will win it again this year," Aunt Missy insisted with a slight stubbornness in her tone. "Bucky, can you do me a favor? Can you help Addison hide her hair? With it being a little small, I'm afraid the wig will fall off if she does too many stunts in one routine."

"I promise, Aunt Missy," Bucky vowed with a short nod. "I'll help Addison hide it the best that I can."

"I don't want to go," Eliza complained with an annoyed eyeroll. "If we get caught, we could get expelled on our first day of school. That will end any chance of us changing the system."

"If we get caught," Zed reminded with an enthusiastic smile. "There's no guarantees we will."

"But there's no guarantees we won't," Eliza retorted. "It works both ways, Zed."

After years of being segregated, zombies are now welcome to attend school at Seabrook High. However, the zombies are not allowed to attend classes with the humans, so they have to stay in the basement. Although the zombies all have clubs they wish to join, the principal refused to let them do so. Zed wants to sneak out of their 'prison' to try out for the football team, so he's trying to convince Eliza to join in on his fun.

"If you're scared, wear a jacket," Zed suggested in hopes of getting his friend to agree. "It will cover your green hair and pale skin. People will think you're human."

"Except I'm not wearing one of their pastel outfits," Eliza argued. "Even if my hair is covered, I'll still stick out from the crowd."

Before Zed could say anything, Bonzo intervened by giving their friend a pep talk to encourage her, though most humans wouldn't understand it since they probably couldn't speak zombie. Eliza softened up a bit. Throwing her head back with a groan, she shouted, "Fine! Thirty minutes and that's it! When we get caught, I'm throwing you under the bus."

"I can live with that," Zed decided before dragging Eliza to the basement entrance. Checking to make sure the coast was clear, he instructed Bonzo, "Cover for us."

Bonzo happily waved good-bye to his friends as they sneakily slipped through the door, hoping they had fun on their adventure.

-Line Break-

With Zed's suggestion, Eliza felt a little comfortable when walking through the bright hallways of the cheery, pastel school. With her hair, skin, and Z-band momentarily covered, the other students treated her like an ordinary human, though they did frown at her 'unusual' outfit. Eliza actually found herself enjoying her freedom.

Meanwhile, Zed was busy ducking his head every time he noticed someone through the glass walls. When a human walked by, he would hide behind a nearby object until the human passed his friend.

"You're going to get caught," Eliza insisted as she watched her friend's failed attempt to sneak around. "You're being careless. Just a simple slip up and a human will think you've gone full zombie."

"That won't happen," Zed claimed. "I am being super careful!"

As soon as he spoke those words, Zed just happened to stub his toe on a nearby metal magazine rack. He groaned as he tried limping down the hallway way to make the pain fade away quicker. At that exact moment, a clueless dark-skinned cheerleader came around the corner.

"Gross!" she exclaimed at the way Zed was acting. "Zombie!"

Zed realized a moment too late that she was referring to him. "No! I'm not—"

Yet before he could defend himself, the cheerleader pulled the Zombie-Alert. Alarms blared throughout the school as everyone fled from their classrooms, screaming as they went. They knew something like that was going to happen.

Eliza smacked his arm as hard as she could, hoping it hurt him. "I told you so!" She chided in irritation. "We should have stayed in the basement. Now, you need to run."

Zed raised a confused eyebrow at his friend. "Why?"

A moment later, what appeared to be the entire football team rounded the very same corner that the cheerleader previously emerged from. "There he is!" One of them shouted once he spotted Zed. "Get him!"

"Eliza!" Zed pleaded as he ran in the opposite direction of the athletic teenagers.

"I warned you!" Eliza called out to the retreating boy, the football players running pass her like she wasn't there. "We should have stayed in the basement!"

Once they were out of sight, Eliza amusedly shook her head as she continued her stroll through the nearly vacant hallways. It was quite entertaining to see an entire school of humans turn upside down from seeing a single zombie in their hallway, who wasn't even in their full zombie mode.

What would happen if they saw two zombies instead of one?

Would the entire town turn into chaos?

Before Eliza could imagine the infinite possibilities, a human rounded the very hallway she was turning down, unexpectedly knocking them both to the ground. Eliza hit her head with a muffled grunt, though the worse pain was when the human accidentally tumbled on top of her.

Quickly scrambling off her, the human offered a hand to help Eliza sit up. Not wanting to blow her cover, Eliza reluctantly grabbed hold of the hand. Once pulled to a sit-up position, Eliza found herself losing any kind of regret that she could have harbored.

The human appeared to be very cute, in a dorky kind of way. Through the baggy clothing, Eliza could feel his muscular build that didn't match his short, curly black hair. Though his eyes were kind and bright, Eliza adored the smile he gave her.

"Sorry," he apologized sincerely as he stood to his feet, helping her do the same. "I didn't mean to run you over. I was trying to find my cousin. It's her first day at Seabrook."

"It's my first day too," Eliza revealed, though she scolded herself for doing such a thing. "I mean . . . um . . ."

The human smiled as he held out a hand in greeting. "I'm Bucky. And you are . . . ?"

"Eliza," she introduced with a soft smile as she gingerly shook his hand. "Nice to meet you."

"You have a very unique name," Bucky complimented as he tried for another winning smile. "It's almost as beautiful as you."

Eliza raised an eyebrow in amusement. "Are you trying to flirt with me?"

"More like am flirting with you," he corrected, his smile not once faltering as he tilted his head curiously. "Is it working?"

She shrugged in mock carelessness. "Maybe," she admitted. "I usually don't get compliments, flirted with, or asked out."

"Let's change that then. How about you and I go out on a date after school?" Bucky suggested hopefully. "After cheer tryouts, I can take you out for froyo or something."

"You're trying out for cheer?" Eliza wondered curiously as she purposely tried to change the subject. "I figured you would try for football, considering how well you are at tackling."

Chuckling at her attempt to make a joke, Bucky corrected, "I'm actually running the tryouts because I'm the new cheer captain. Are you going?"

"I can't," Eliza denied with a vigorous shake of her head. "My kind aren't allowed."

Snarling his nose slightly at the wording, Bucky questioned cautiously, "What do you mean 'your kind'? Are you a human?"

"No, I'm not. I'm . . ." Eliza trailed off a moment to slowly remove her hood, revealing her frizzy green hair and incredibly pale skin, ". . . a zombie."

Bucky stared at the teenager with wide eyes, making Eliza's heart—because zombies do have heart, contrary to popular belief—skip a few beats in nervousness. She didn't know what to say to help save the conversation or possibly save her new friendship.

"Wow," Bucky finally commented while shaking his head in disbelief. "I can't believe it. You look even more beautiful than you did before."

Eliza allowed the smallest of blushes to form on her cheeks while smiling to hide her nervousness. She didn't think something like this was going to happen on her first day of human high school. She was so grateful that she decided not to stay in the basement with Bonzo like she originally wanted.

Taking a chance, Bucky requested, "Will you go on a date with me?"

Before Eliza could answer, the duo heard voices down the hall shouting Bucky's name. Barely having enough time for Eliza to place her hood back on, a trio of cheerleaders consisting of two girls and a boy rounded the corner.

"We found your cousin!" The boy with the bird-like mohawk hairstyle announced.

"She's in the zombie safe-room," the blonde pony-tail girl stated.

"The situation may have messed her up in the head," informed the dark-skinned girl, the same one that originally spotted Zed. "We think she's talking to herself."

"I better check on her." Bucky adverted his attention to Eliza, giving her a hopeful smile. "Maybe you can give me your answer later?"

With the trio leading the way, Bucky could faintly hear Eliza behind him saying—

"Yes."
