Exes. Part II

"Girl, shut up!" Sasha shrieked in Michonne's ear and she had to separate the phone so she was not deaf after this conversation. "Why the hell didn't you spill the beans when we were about to leave? You've left me hanging for days without knowing that!"

"Sash, because we were damn busy! You know it was hectic! I was not thinking clearly. I was not even sure I dreamed the whole thing! Besides it's not a conversation I wanted to have over the phone."

"You are having it now alright."

"Yes, but just because I know we won't see each other so soon and I needed to tell you already."

"You are such a bad friend. It's been two weeks, Chonne! How could you not tell me?" She whined.

"Can you stop being so dramatic? I'm telling you now."

"Ok. I need a moment." Michonne rolled her eyes but still could hear Sasha's excited screams and she even imagined her doing a little dance.

"You are so stupid!" She laughed discreetly at her friend's nonsense moments. "Are you done?"

"Yes, I'm good now. As I was saying, you were always in denial but I saw that coming."

"I know, I know..." There was a moment of silence.

"What are you going to do now, Michonne? What if he actually files for divorce? That'd mean he is serious about what he told you".

"As I said, I don't know. And I definitely plan on waiting…"

"Just tell me you jumped to his bones for a kiss at least", she cut Michonne off.

"Of course not! Are you crazy?" she whispered on the phone.

"Why the hell not?"

"Sasha! He is still married! I am not like that."

"I know but… nothing really?" She insisted.

"Sasha!"

"Oh, Lord. Fine, but you are such a nun for Christ's sake!"

"I'm not. But… this is different. We didn't need to do that to give more meaning to what we were saying. I can wait. We can wait."

"You are a better person than I am". Michonne cackled.

"Don't pretend you'd have acted any differently."

"I would have had a kiss out of it. The hell I would." They both laughed because they knew she would have. "Ok, we'll talk more about this later when you come over to visit me because I need ALL and I mean ALL the tea, right now I want to know why the heck you agree to have lunch with that idiot."

Michonne sighed and rolled her eyes. Here we go again.

"Don't call him that. It's simply lunch and why not?"

"Because! You don't want him back, do you?" she asked, cringing her nose. Mike never did anything to bother Sasha but she always felt Michonne needed a man with a spine and a pair of balls. Mike was too soft her liking. He just was.

"No, of course not."

"Then don't give him any hope, Chonne. That's why he's always asking to have lunch with you but you are so credulous you don't see it. Daryl says he'll beat the shit out of him if he does something."

"Daryl always wants to beat everyone who comes close to me. Clearly, your boy has a violence problem."

"Oh come on, you know most of the time he doesn't mean it but he looks so hot saying it though. Plus, you know he's just being protective."

"I can take care of myself and you both know it."

"We do, but it's nice to let people take care of you once in a while. And don't worry, my perfect boyfriend puts that violence to good use in bed with me."

"Oh god! I didn't need to know that! But really, it doesn't have to be that way…"

"Michonne, you broke up with the guy, after everything you both went through... we all know he is still in love with you."

"Stop it with your romance, please."

"Listen to me, I told you about Rick and I am telling you about Mike now. Don't feel sorry for his lame ass and take him back, you left him for a reason. Don't do it when you can have a chance with Rick now."

"Sasha, I haven't even told you how I feel about Rick."

"You don't need to. It's in the tone of your voice when you say his name and in your face every time you saw him while we were filming. It was all over his face as well, damn it was there all over your pretty faces for blind people to see it."

"OK. Time to go. I'll call you back soon".

"Wait! Listen to me!..."

"Bye, Sasha!"

"Michonne! Don't hang..."

She disconnected the call before her friend could give her more love advice and smiled. It was nice having Sasha as a friend and confidant. But sometimes she was too much. Sasha has always been creating these stories about them and even when Michonne thought they could not be possible sometimes they happened. Sasha claimed to be her astrological powers but she ended up confessing that she truly believes that if you ask the universe for something with all your heart and positive vibes, the universe will grant it to you. Michonne made sure to tell her that was utter bullshit but Sasha has proved to be right more times than wrong and Michonne has learned to listen to her more times than not as well. She was thinking about that when she saw Mike coming into the restaurant. She waved for him to see her and he headed her way.

Mike and Michonne were together for a few years, but a couple of months ago she decided to end the relationship. They were both actors and the relationship worked even when their schedules were crazy. But after what happened she had a hard time thinking about him again as the man she was in a relationship with, the man she was supposed to be in love with, so she decided it was best for them to go their separate ways. He'd agreed and they have seen each other occasionally. That's why she didn't completely believe Sasha's comment. He might still have feelings for her but nothing was going to come out of it. Her heart belonged to someone else already.

"Hi", he said and kissed her on the cheek when she slowly rose to meet him. "I'm sorry I'm a bit late. Got held up in traffic".

"It's fine. I haven't been here for long." He sat in front of her and ordered a drink.

"You look gorgeous, as always." He said smiling, and he meant it. Michonne was wearing a yellow maxi dress with thin straps crossing her back. It was hot and she had decided for this to be simple, still classy at this time of the day. Her dreads were up in a bun and long crafty earrings were hanging almost to her collarbone.

"Thanks. You are looking good too." It was a polite answer.

"How have you been?" He said when his drink was served and the waiter left them alone.

"Good. Working a lot, at least a break from the TV show but I planned on visiting the organization next week."

"Still the same busybody. How's the film going?"

"Oh," she wasn't sure how he knew about her being cast for any film.

"Some people still think we are together and ask me about you. I correct them all the time but still, I get to know some stuff."

"It's fine I guess. But I haven't started filming for that, we have a meeting with the full cast and crew during these days. It's all I can say about that."

"Yes, I know how it is. So, how's your mom? And your sisters? I bet they are glad to have you for a while now. Don't you guys meet up for your uncle's birthday this time of the year?"

Mike knew all about her family and how they meet up for celebrations and holidays. He would always try to go with Michonne to as many as they could attend mainly because of their jobs.

Lunch was good and they talked like old friends about everything but Michonne couldn't shake the feeling of Mike looking at her still with longing and hopeful eyes. It's nothing. We both moved on. He knows that.

He asked for the check and while the waiter was out of earshot he took her hands into his and caressed the back of them. Michonne just stared at their hands for a few seconds and then looked up at him.

"Mike, what are you doing?", she whispered.

"I miss you, Mich." Goddamn it, Sasha!

"Mike…", slowly she snatched her hands back. "This is not the moment or the place."

"I know, but… I do miss you".

I don't.

"Is this why you asked me to meet you? Some kind of game to convince me to go back together?"

"Not entirely. But I've been hoping you could see how I feel about you. What happened to us broke me too, not just you, Mich."

"Don't… call me that." She breathed deeply. "I don't want to talk about it."

"That's the thing, you never wanted to talk about it. It was my son too, Michonne. It hurt me losing him and it hurt me losing you too."

"Don't! Why'd you bring him into this?!" She asked, biting her lip when she started to feel her eyes pooling. "He's gone. We are not together and there's that!"

"I felt like I lost you both at the same time and I can't get over it. I'm still hurt. I've been working a lot trying to let it go, to let us go but I can't."

"You should. I am not going back to you. Our son is not going back to us. And I can't believe you set me up like this and brought him into the conversation."

"I remember how you were when it happened, how sad, how broke. You closed up to me and I had to deal with my pain and your indifference too. It wasn't fair. I never blamed you for what happened."

"But I did, and I just couldn't look at you every day and remember my Peanut."

"He was my Peanut too." He said sadly.

"I just didn't care about anything else anymore, not even you."

"I know. I felt it."

"Starting to work in this show brought me back. My friends brought me back. My family. That's when I realized that I didn't love you anymore, Mike. Not how I used to, not how I want to love. I was so heartbroken… If I'd loved you, you alone would have brought me back."

He felt it true in his heart. He could even pinpoint exactly when she stopped loving him but he thought it was just part of the grieving process. They had lost a child, how could she not love him anymore? Mike was devastated but he was not in the state of mind to save her from her own feeling of loss. He was grieving himself too. He lost her and accepted when she broke up with him even though he wanted to fight it.

"That's true. I should've been enough. My mistake was to believe that I was."

They just stared at each other. Michonne was not going to keep up with this. She needed to go. Time had passed and they were now in different and better places mentally. It might be impolite but she owed nothing to him anymore, especially not after bringing their stillborn son into a conversation trying to win her back. That was such a low blow. She stood up and Mike did the same.

"Michonne…"

"I should get going now. It's always nice to see you when you're in town but probably we should stop meeting."

"I'm sorry. That was never my intention. You are this amazing woman and… I guess it was worth the try."

"But we will stop meeting nevertheless. Have a nice flight home, Mike."

She took her pocketbook and headed for the door without looking back, leaving her scent of lavender behind. Mike closed his eyes knowing now that he definitely lost any opportunity to win Michonne back. He took in her smell for one last time and sat back waiting for the waiter to return. It was going to be a long flight home for him.

Michonne cried herself to sleep that night. She couldn't believe Mike had used their child, their Peanut to try and guilt-trip her to win her back. She had lost their son. It wasn't her fault, but she felt like it for a long time. After crying and not wanting to see anyone (only her mom) for six straight days, she took a bath, put on her active clothes, and went to the gym. She stayed there for two hours letting the pain go. And she did that for the next three months every time she felt like breaking in order to win some balance and self-confidence in her life.

The doctor explained it was not her fault, that silent miscarriage was the most common complication of early pregnancy, especially in women older than 35 and of African American descent. She felt a slap for her skin color to be part of such statistics. She had also told her to give her body a month to recover but she couldn't stay in the house anymore. She'd decided to do the things she enjoyed, going outside by herself, sleeping, or at least trying to after crying for hours. Eventually, she gave herself permission to heal but not with Mike by her side. It was always an event hard to discuss with him, and she just stopped trying.

She carries her Peanut in every fiber of her body, that's what they called him because that's about the size he was when they first saw the ultrasound. Never knew if it was really a boy but her heart told her it was. So now, every October 15, she lights a candle in honor of her lost son.

A/N: I wanted to honor Andre and him being slightly in her life and her losing him like in the TV show, but we also are almost sure Danai does not have any kids, yet. What do you think? Was it good? Eager to hear all your thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Stay safe y'all!
