A/N: This will be the first of many intermission chapters which take place both in between events of the films as well as between the films themselves. Also, from here on, droid speak dialogue will be typed in bold as that will hopefully show up on .

19 BBY Roughly 24 hours after Palpatine's rescue

R4-P17 was running diagnostics on Obi-Wan's replacement starfighter, which had been lent to him by Jedi master Aayla Secura.

'Well, let's hope I don't accidentally total this one,' she thought.

Just then, she saw her master walking towards their ship. He pulled out his translator to talk.

"How's it coming, R4?;" he asked.

Everything looks to be in order, Master. It should be ready to go for our next mission, She chirped.

"Good, that's very good….;" he trailed off. R4 couldn't help but notice he looked troubled. A few years ago, she probably wouldn't have given it much thought. However, she'd spent enough time with Obi-Wan since then that she didn't like seeing him upset.

Master, is everything all right?; She asked, hoping he'd bite.

"Oh I'm fine. I'm just a bit concerned about my apprentice."

Anakin?; She inquired, What happened? Is he ok?

"Honestly, I'm not sure;" he replied with uncertainty, "You recall a few months ago when you were still being refitted with a proper droid body?"

No Master, I totally forgot I was half droid before; R4 replied playfully. She wasn't sure where that sudden snark had come from, but she chopped it up to her time spent with Blue. Obi-Wan gave her a look. Sorry, continue.

"I had found a lead on the missing Asajj Ventress's whereabouts and had left with G9 to get Anakin to help me look for her. We had both been given some leave by the council, you see."

Uh huh.

"Well it wasn't hard to find him. He was on Naboo with Senator Amidala. Everyone knows that the two are rather close. I among others had been suspicious about the true nature of their relationship for quite some time. Although I didn't say anything to Anakin or the council out of respect, that encounter convinced me of my worst fears: Anakin and Amidala are married."

So, lots of people get married. What's wrong with that?

"Yes, well, the Jedi code forbids marriage. More specifically, it forbids emotional attachments and by extension marriage," Obi-Wan explained.

Why?; She asked.

"The council believes that emotional attachments are a potential path to the dark side of the force."

Do you believe that?

"I have for as long as I can remember. Anakin, though, wears his emotions on his sleeves. I'm not sure what to do about this situation, but right now it's the least of my concerns. Just today, Anakin was given a seat on the Jedi council."

Oh, good for him.

"Unfortunately, since this was a request from the chancellor, Anakin was not granted the rank of master. He was quite upset about it, as becoming a master is one of his ultimate goals in life. The only reason he was given a seat was so we could secretly have him spy on Palpatine."

What's wrong with the chancellor?

"He's been in power for far too long, much longer than any supreme chancellor before him. And he shows no signs of giving up that power willingly any time soon. He's also started interfering with the council's business. When Count Dooku captured me on Geonosis three years ago, he told me that the senate was under the control of a Sith Lord. We didn't believe him then, but now we're not so sure he was lying. To say the council has grown suspicious of the chancellor would be an understatement."

Oh...well why Anakin specifically?

"It's no secret that Anakin has a strong friendship with the chancellor. The council members knew they were taking a risk sending him. I just hope my faith in the man isn't misplaced."

If you trust him, then I'm sure he'll do fine! I'm just a navigator, so I don't know much about human relationships or the dark side. But I'm sure everything will work out! Have faith, Master! And hey, as long as it isn't hurting anyone, I don't see a problem with Anakin being married!; Came the aurebesh translation.

Obi-Wan chuckled at this. "Perhaps I am overthinking things. Besides, we're going on a mission of our own very soon, I should stay focused."

Ooh, where are we going?; R4 asked.

"Utapau. Sources suggest that General Grievous and the separatist leaders are hiding out there. If we do find Grievous, we must either capture or kill him. Doing so will effectively end the war."

Wow; she whirred, Sounds like a very important mission. I'm with you all the way, Master!

"Glad to hear it, old friend," Obi-Wan replied, "Oh and R4? Thank you for listening. I've really been needing someone outside the order to talk to lately. You've helped me tremendously."

No problem, Master!;

Obi-Wan then took his leave, and R4 was left alone with her thoughts once more.

'He called me an old friend,' she thought happily.

A/N: The conversation in this chapter regarding Obi-Wan's discovery of Anakin and Padme's marriage is something that actually happened in the original canon. This is why he immediately went to Padme when he was trying to find Anakin in the movie.
