-Corridors full of patients who need surgery seem to be the elixir of any surgeon, and this time the corridors of the Seattle Mercy Grey's were packed with teenagers who required attention. The arrival of spring not only increases love in the environment but the patients…
"Torres, I need you on stretcher 2," Bailey said in a firm tone.
"I'm coming," Callie huffed and gave Arizona next to her a peck as they had just treated a broken femur. "I love you" she said looking into her eyes. Since the night of the engagement, they were more caramelized than ever.
"I need you today Torres…" Bailey insisted impatiently. "Continue what you are doing at home, you are not paid to go around giving shows at the Hospital"
Arizona laughed at the complaints "Come on! if you love it…. We already know that you are eager to be the bridesmaid" exclaimed the blonde excitedly, remembering that they were only a few days away from that moment. "I love you" she replied to her fiancee while Bailey looked up as a complaint, although deep down she loved that her friends could celebrate the marriage, but she had to pretend, not to lose her appearance.
"Dr. Robbins, I would need you to see some studies" Karev required the help of the blonde, the cases seemed never-ending today.
Callie glanced at Arizona as she approached Bailey, not wanting to inconvenience her fiancée, just for a few days, insisting that did she not overexert herself at work but, she also did not agree with the hours that the pediatric surgeon had spent in the hospital and the number of interventions he had to perform.
Bailey quickly realized what was bothering the brunette and decided to intervene for her. "Karev, Dr. Robbins already finished her shift hours ago, I hope you're not bothering her"
Callie smiled relieved and murmured a "thank you" to her friend since she knew that she had done it to avoid a conflict with Arizona, not because she was not worried about the blonde's health, but she knew that there were minor frictions between them when it came to working. .
"I'm fine Dr. Bailey, don't be afraid" Arizona was heard snorting and she made a gesture to Karev indicating that shows her what he needed
"I don't remember asking for your opinion Dr. Robbins," Miranda retorted without taking her eyes off her patient. "Do I need to file a report with Dr. Shepherd?"
Arizona closed her eyes in resignation, this was not a battle she was going to be able to win easily. She was grateful that Callie and everyone at her hospital cared about her, but she couldn't help but feel annoyed that they controlled her like a child, even though she understood her motives. "It's the last one, I promise," the pediatric surgeon asserted.
"Are you sure? If not, I can…" Karev asked in a low tone to avoid being overheard.
Arizona smiled kindly at him. "I'm sure Karev, show me those studies."
A couple of hours later Arizona left the hospital to meet her friend at the bar on the corner, she needed to talk to her and Callie was also about to finish her shift, so they agreed that she would be with Teddy and they would meet up later to get back together to the apartment after looking for Sofia.
"Arizona, I'm going to ask you again, are you sure about this?" Teddy insisted once more time to her friend.
The blonde was beginning to lose patience, they had been there for 30 minutes and she had already heard that question at least four times. "Yes, Teddy, for the umpteenth time I am sure…."
The cardiothoracic surgeon sighed. "I just don't know… I just want to make sure you understand what you're doing"
"Ok, I'm going to pretend that I didn't hear anything because if I don't, I should get upset with you... I remind you that at the moment I have the full power of my actions, and I don't remember that I have been diagnosed with any comprehension problem, do I?" Arizona was beginning to get annoyed, the topic of a talk that should have lasted a few minutes was beginning to take longer than necessary.
"I know..., you're right, sorry!" she exclaimed, raising her hands. "But so many times I heard you say how important it was to you that..."
They both remained silent for a few seconds. "Is it because of Callie? Is that? You don't agree that I'm going to get married? she asked intrigued
Teddy looked surprised. "What? No, of course not, it's not that, and you know it."
"If it's because of the discussion both of you had a couple of months ago about the surgery, I want you to understand that she didn't want to treat you like that, she just..."
"Arizona, it's not that, I don't have a problem with Callie, or well, if maybe, but it's not that, I just want you to be happy, just that…" Teddy said in a kind tone "and I think maybe you're rushing a bit, you can get married but leave this for a little later."
"Ted... Callie makes me happy, Sofia makes me happy... I am enormously happy with them, they complete me... you know me well, you know everything that happened, what we go through..." Arizona commented sadly alluding to everything that her friend lived with her in recent years "I'm not rushing, because if I've learned anything in life it's that we never know how much time we have left…" she took a deep breath "I don't know how much time I have left, and I want to do it Teddy... just getting married isn't enough, I want to do something more, I want to be able to give them something special" the blonde smiled sadly
"Even if you haven't consulted with her," remarked Teddy, already knowing that he wasn't going to be able to convince her anyway.
"Teddy! If I mention it, what kind of surprise would it be?" she answered obfuscated
"It's just that maybe she doesn't want this kind of surprise knowing what it means for you"
"You know what? It doesn't matter, I wasn't asking your permission anyway, it's something that's already been decided, I just wanted my best friend to accompany me with all this and support me, but I see that's not the case, leave it at that, you already made your point right in clear" Arizona began to stand up from the chair
Teddy sighed deeply. "Wait"
The blonde shook her head in denial. "For what? I already understood Teddy, you don't agree, it doesn't make any sense for me to keep telling you, I have to go to Sofia to meet Callie"
"Sorry, sorry. Okay, I'm going to help you, you're right, if it's important to you I want to be able to help, when do you plan to do it?" Teddy gave up and didn't want to disappoint her friend. If Arizona was happy doing it then maybe the blonde was right and it was the right time.
"Are you sure? because if you insist again that I'll leave?" Arizona was hesitant.
"Sure," asserted her friend, showing a conciliatory smile.
"Great! Because I thought that tomorrow since you have the day off, you could pick me up afternoon"
Teddy laughed. "I see you already checked my schedule"
"Then…?" the blonde asked excitedly."
Teddy nodded in agreement
"Yes!" Arizona screamed with excitement and went to hug her friend. "Thank you, Tedd" was a thank you not only because he would be with her the next day, but also because she was always by her side, supporting her in everything.
"Sofia! Arizona! dinner is ready" Callie called her girls to the table
Sofia was standing at the door of her mother's room and ran out when she heard her name.
"Mommy, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure baby, tell me" Callie replied as she finished taking things to the table
"Did you and Arizona have a fight?" asked the girl in dismay
The brunette frowned, she was surprised by the little girl's deduction. "No, why are you asking?"
"Arizona is packing her suitcase, I think she is going to leave home" Sofia's eyes began to fill with tears.
Her daughter's anguish touched her "No, Sof... Arizona is only preparing things to take away because she has to leave in a while and tomorrow she won't sleep here at night."
"See? then I was right, she is leaving!" she exclaimed and broke down crying.
Callie couldn't help laughing despite the little girl's anguish. Arizona approached the dining room and couldn't understand the situation, on the one hand, Sofia crying and on the other Callie laughing.
"What's going on? Why are you crying, Sof? she asked in dismay and knelt to be at her height.
"I don't want you to leave Arizona!" she jumped into the blonde's arms and hugged her tightly.
The blonde smiled "Baby, it's only a couple of nights, after the wedding the three of us will be together forever, well, except when we have a guard, but..." she knew she was talking too much, just had to comfort Sofia who thought that he was moving.
"Mommy did something to you and that's why you don't want to be with us anymore?" asked the girl holding back tears to be able to speak
"What?" Callie exclaimed perplexed, her daughter assumed that she was to blame for what for Sofia was the reason why Arizona was supposedly moving, and now it was Arizona who couldn't contain her laughter, Sofia was definitely, team Arizona...
"Baby, mommy didn't do anything to me... couples just aren't supposed to share the house the night before the wedding," explained the blonde kindly to calm the little girl down.
"Because?" Sofia questioned
Arizona sought Callie's gaze to save her from the answer, but the brunette just smiled. "Why Arizona? Why are you leaving home?" Callie retorted, enjoying getting her future wife into a mess.
"Well, because then when we see each other on the wedding day it will be even more exciting..." she answered, assuming that explanation would suffice.
Sofia frowned. "You don't get excited to see us every day, do you get bored of us?"
"Nooo... of course not, I love seeing you every day... I want to see you both every day, every minute of the day" Arizona kissed Sofia affectionately on the cheek
"Then I don't understand why I can't see you these days," she asked, pouting.
Callie decided to help Arizona "Because when you miss someone you get much more excited when you see them, that's why, if we don't see Arizona, for one day, when we see her we will be much more excited"
"It's not true, I prefer to see her, I get excited every day," said the little girl. Which was true. "If I don't need you to go to be happy to see you, can I go with you?"
Sofia's sweetness won her heart more and more every day. The blonde just hugged her and whispered in her ear "I love you Sof" gently taking her chin and told her "I'm going to miss you a lot, but tomorrow I have to work and I won't be able to come to see you, but I promise I'll go to the daycare to visit you, and also I'll make it up to you these days we're not going to see each other, ok? she asked sweetly.
Sofia nodded very unconvincingly. "Ok, but will you promise me that later you will always stay with us?"
"I promise, forever, always," she asserted with certainty, that there would be no other place in the world where she would like to be.
Callie watched Sofia's interaction with Arizona from a few meters away and the bond they had seemed unbelievable. She couldn't believe she was only a couple of days away from marrying the love of her life and being able to have the family together with the blonde that she had always dreamed of. Maybe Sofia didn't share Arizona's blood, but she bonded with something stronger than that.
"How about if we eat? Because there is a little girl here who must go to sleep soon…" the brunette commented trying to soften the atmosphere
"Arizona? You're still going to continue telling me the story today, right? Sofia asked expectantly. The blonde's stories were a tradition among them.
"Sof, Arizona needs to rest too…" Callie hated being the baddie but she didn't want to rob her soon-to-be wife of the rest she so badly needed. These days between the preparations and the hospital she was having more stress than indicated. Also, she barely had time off, Callie could see the tiredness and had several fights about that, but Arizona never listened.
Arizona smiled "Of course Sof'' and continued her answer looking at her fiance, "in fact I thought we were going to say goodbye too..." she said in a playful tone
"Really? I thought we did it last night "replied the brunette without looking up from her plate, following Arizona's game
"Oh, well, ok… so if someone doesn't need to say goodbye anymore…. again... I'll be leaving after telling one of my great stories" she said resignedly
Callie couldn't help but smile, she loved teasing her for a very short time more than her fiancée.
After a quiet dinner, Arizona kept as promised, putting Sofia to bed and telling her not one, but three stories, as Sofia struggled not to give in to sleep to keep Arizona from leaving, but after 45 minutes, she was gone. it was impossible for her.
"I thought she wouldn't sleep anymore..." she commented in a low voice as she left the little girl's room. Callie had already cleared the table and was finishing the dishes.
She looked at her watch and it was already past 10 at night. "I'm going to get my things"
When the blonde returned to the living room, Callie was already there. Arizona came over to say goodbye to her and gave her a tender kiss.
"are you very tired?" Callie asked without letting go of Arizona's lips.
The blonde smiled "I thought you said we had already said goodbye yesterday" she replied in a seductive tone
"I will never get tired of saying goodbye to you because I never plan to say goodbye to you…let's say we are going to practice a little more what our reunion will be like"
"Hmm, I like that..."
Callie pulled away from her for a second and looked at her seriously. "Tomorrow night be very careful what you do at your bachelorette party..."
"Is it I, or someone is jealous…?" she questioned playfully
"Jealous? Me? please…. let me show you in our bedroom because I have no reason to be jealous…" Callie took Arizona's mouth passionately and they slowly made their way to the bed.
After an hour Arizona was ready to go again. They didn't really like the idea of being apart for a couple of nights, but they wanted to respect the tradition of not seeing each other on their wedding day, and their routines at the hospital and bachelorette parties were going to keep them apart.
"I'm going to miss you, I don't like you to go..." Callie lamented.
"If you want me to spend the night here, all you have to do is ask," Arizona offered sincerely.
Callie thought for a few seconds. "No... I think that missing each other for a couple of days will make the wedding night something much more special... you don't know the surprise I have prepared for you..." she said in a seductive tone
Arizona's face lit up "What is it? Tell me"
Callie laughed. "Babe, don't you know the meaning of the word surprise? if I told you I would ruin it, so now you have a couple of days to think…"
"Come on Calliope! you are not going to leave me with the intrigue!" protested the blonde
Callie just smirked and gave him a beak.
"Please?" she insisted again while Callie shook her head
Arizona sighed. "Okay. But unlike you who like to make me suffer" she said smiling "I do want to show you something that I have prepared for us
"Really? what a mystery…" she responded excitedly
Arizona reached into her purse and handed an envelope to her fiancée.
Callie frowned. "What is it?" she asked doubtfully
"Open it" responded Arizona excitedly
Callie carefully observed what was in the envelope "they are tickets" she said surprised
"They are for our mini honeymoon. I know we said we'd have it later, but I thought-"
"There are three" interrupted the brunette looking up.
Arizona kept a bright smile on her face. "I know, Sofia, you and me" she answered triumphantly.
Callie giggled. "Sofia?" she asked, puzzled. "Baby, believe me, I adore Sofia, I really love my daughter madly, but I'm not sure I want to take her to our honeymoon ... or mini-honeymoon" she looked at her girlfriend without understanding why she wanted to take to the little one
Arizona sighed. "Calliope, this isn't our real honeymoon, is it?" she asked she almost rhetorically
"I know, baby, and I'm really sorry for that, I swear that if it wasn't for Brandon's surgery that was scheduled almost a year ago, I would have postponed it... but with her condition and-"
"Callie, I'm not reproaching you for anything… I understand it perfectly and we both agreed to leave it for a month. Okay?" When the brunette agreed, she continued, "I'm also a surgeon and I know how complicated it can be for us... well, or what it was, at least for me, since I'm hardly allowed to operate anymore."
"Arizona" Callie said in a melancholy tone, she knew what the blonde suffered for not having a schedule as full of surgeries as she would like because of her condition
"And this has nothing to do with waiting to make the trip, Mark is going to take Sofia the first night with him so that we can celebrate" she smiled seductively "but I also felt that I wanted to do something that involved Sofia as well... and it's just for the weekend, the three of us… as a celebration of the beginning of our new family…" she smiled weakly, trying to find his fiancee's approval "because we are a family, right? Of course I don't want to go too far, and I understand that her parents are Mark and you, that's clear to me, but I feel like she is my daughter…"
Callie reached out to wipe away a tear rolling down her cheek. "Arizona, we're already a family, even before we're married. Sofia, Mark, you and I, we are a family, an incredible family, I must say" the brunete smiled trying to lighten the conversation "and you know that Sofia adores you, it's you who she looks for at night to tell her stories... the day don't come here to be on duty, she doesn't stop talking about you… what you two have is special, and really, I must thank you for all the love you give her, seriously… and this?" she said pointing to the passages "it's one more example of how incredibly amazing you are..." they stared at each other for a few minutes in silence, "I love you" Callie said with a firm tone "and I can't wait for us to officially be a married couple"
"And I love you Calliope, I love you madly"
"But" she warned "if for our real honeymoon, it occurs to you to take Sofia, I'm going to kill you Arizona Robbins, and I mean it" she said raising her eyebrows
Arizona laughed "Believe me Calliope, there are things I'll do to you on the beach that aren't kid-friendly…"
"Mmm" Callie tenderly kissed Arizona's lips "I can't wait to find out" she murmured
"After 48 hours, we have a whole month to rehearse..."
Callie sighed… "what am I going to do without being with you for so long… two nights is too much time" she pouted.
Arizona pretended to think for a moment "the same as me Calliope, missing you and imagining everything we will do in our new life together…"
"I love you Arizona" said firmly "And I lied to you before."
The brunette seemed confused. "What? What are you talking about?"
The blonde smiled slowly. "The tickets aren't my only surprise for you, I have another even better one… I can't wait to show you the surprise I have for my girls '' murmured while approaching to kiss Callie again before leaving the house.
