Chapter 4:

The Delta Adventure: The Draconoid People

Location: Mossdeep City

To help combat the upcoming space threat, I had agreed to head to Mossdeep City. Mossdeep City is famous for its space station. In fact, I even helped get a Deoxys back into space before.

Anyway, me, May, Professor Birch, Steven Stone and Professor Sycamore were at the space station with Professor Cozmo. He's a Scientist that specializes in extra-terrestrial Pokémon. His most important work is on Jirachi, but for understandable reasons, he had to put it on hold.

"This meteor is coming in fast," he said, a shake in his voice. "People will unknowingly be watching the meteor shower tomorrow completely oblivious to the fact that it will be their final moments."

Steven looked out the window, at the people playing with their Pokémon blissfully unaware of the encroaching danger. "3000 years ago, there was a great war in the Kalos region. A man made an Ultimate Weapon to help end the war. My father's grandfather used that energy to help found the Devon Corp. We must use any and all methods to destroy that meteorite, so that work at the Devon Corp doesn't go to waste."

I couldn't get my head round it. Well, I guess I could. World ending threats happen almost all the time I suppose. After all, I was the one who called upon Rayquaza. "Wait, that's it! Rayquaza!" I said. "Maybe Rayquaza can defeat the meteor!"

Ah yes, that's another thing I should mention. When I was saving the world, I had to summon Rayquaza to quell the battle between Groudon and Kyogre. To do that, I caught it. So where is Rayquaza? In the Ozone Layer. Whilst it's my Pokémon, I don't keep it in a PC. It's too important to the ecosystem for it to be kept there.

"Well," said Professor Sycamore. "I guess that would sort out the problem easily. You should head to Sky Pillar Brendan."

"I'll do that now," I said.

As me and my friends left the Space Station, I spotted a Whismur.

Whismur (ゴニョニョ)

#046

Normal Type

Whisper Pokémon

2'00" (0.6 m)

35.9 lbs (16.3 kg)

Whismur is very timid. If it starts crying loudly, it becomes startled by its own crying and cries even harder. When it finally stops crying, this Pokémon goes to sleep, all tired out.

"Hello," I said. "Are you lost?"

Whismur looked around. "Please don't cry," May said. "Now is not the time to go deaf."

"There you are Aster," said a girl. She looked to be in her late teens. She was wearing a cloak and shorts. Not exactly casual wear. But the thing that stuck out to me was… the short black hair.

Instead of giving myself away, I wanted to lead into it. "So, this Whismur is yours?" I asked.

"Yes. Her name is Aster. And my name is Zinnia. Of course, I know who you are, Brendan Seaview."

I nodded. "Look, I'm glad you got your Pokémon back, but I am in a hurry. I need to get to Sky Pillar, or the world will… look I just need to go, okay?"

"I'll let you," she said. "But. I want your Key Stone."

Everyone gasped.

"What?" I asked, holding on it. "Why do you want this? It's mine, you can't have it."

"Really?" she asked. "I'm sure then you don't want… this?" From her small satchel, she got out…

"A Meteorite Shard?!" Professor Cozmo said. "But where?"

"Brendan, come with me to Granite Cave and I'll tell you. This meteorite isn't any old meteorite; I can help give you the power you need."

Zinnia wondered off. I looked back at the group with worry. "What do I do?" I asked.

"I don't know if she's telling the truth, but I should say go," said Steven.

"I guess you're right," I replied. "Because… I think I saw that girl at Granite Cave beforehand."

"WHAT?!" May shouted. "Why didn't you tell us?"

"Because I don't know if I was seeing things or not. I'll head to Sky Pillar after this."

With that, I Mega Evolved Latios and soared back to Dewford Town.

Location: Granite Cave

I was back here. Didn't expect that. I basically polluted the air with Repels; I had no time to waste.

I guessed correctly that she would be in the room with the mural. There that girl was, waiting in front of the grand painting.

"Okay, no playing games. What do you want?"

The girl smiled. "As stated, my name is Zinnia. I am a descendant of a race called the Draconoid people, who hold the secret to Rayquaza."

"Secret?" I asked. "What secret? I caught it over a decade ago."

She shook her head. "You don't even know half of the story. But if you want to know it, beat me in a battle."

"I have no time!" I said.

"Then I guess the world will have to say goodbye," she said.

"WAIT!" I replied. "Fine, but no playing tricks."

"That's just what I want to hear," she said.

Brendan Vs. Lorekeeper Zinnia

"Go Tyrantrum!" Zinnia sent out a large-brown Pokémon with a humungous jaw.

Tyrantrum (ガチゴラス)

#697 (National)

Rock/Dragon Type

Despot Pokémon

8'02" (2.5 m)

595.2 lbs (270 kg)

Nothing could stop this Pokémon 100 million years ago, so it behaved like a king.

Tyrunt -Lv 39 Daytime- Tyrantrum

"Go Shiftry!" I shouted, sending out my Grass Type. "Use Energy Ball!" Shiftry created a green ball and fired it at Tyrantrum.

"Tyrantrum, use Dragon Claw!" Tyrantrum swiped at Shiftry.

"Now use Feint Attack!" Shiftry appeared from behind Tyrantrum and punched it.

"Tyrantrum, Rock Slide!" Tyrantrum made rocks fall from the ceiling onto Shiftry, who was almost buried completely.

"Use Energy Ball again!" I shouted, as Shiftry fired another green ball at Tyrantrum. It was finished.

"Okay then. My next Pokémon will be, Altaria!" Out came another Dragon Type.

"Thanks Shiftry," I said. I recalled in favour of Armaldo.

"Altaria, Dragon Pulse!" Altaria fired some colourful energy at Armaldo. Armaldo took a few steps back from the impact.

"Use Hone Claws!" Armaldo sharpened its claws. Its Attack and Accuracy rose.

"Now Altaria, Moonblast!" Altaria, with the power of the moon, attacked Armaldo. It was almost down.

"Use Rock Blast!" Armaldo fired some boulders at Altaria. They were all Super Effective and finished off Altaria.

"Okay then. I'll finish with Salamence!" She sent out the blue Dragon Type with grand-red wings.

Salamence (メガボーマンダ)

#198 (Hoenn)

Dragon/Flying Type

Dragon Pokémon

4'11" (1.5 m)

226.2 lbs (102.6 kg)

By evolving into Salamence, this Pokémon finally realizes its long-held dream to of growing wings. To express its joy, it flies and wheels all over the sky whilst spouting flames from its mouth.

Bagon -Lv 30- Shelgon -Lv 50- Salamence

"Salamence, Dragon Tail!" Salamence hit Armaldo with its tail, forcing it back to its Pokéball. The Pokémon that was forced out was Dusknoir.

"We can still do it. Dusknoir, Shadow Punch!" Dusknoir punched the ground, sending its shadowy hand towards Salamence. It punched it.

"Now Salamence, Crunch!" Salamence chomped down on Dusknoir for a Super Effective hit.

"Dusknoir, Confuse Ray!" Dusknoir sent out a weird signal towards Salamence, who got confused. An attempted Steel Wing made it hurt itself, knocking it out and giving me the match.

"Well," Zinnia said. "They don't call you the Champion for nothing."

"Enough," I shouted. "I need to get to Sky Pillar. Stop wasting my time."

"I will tell you more, at Meteor Falls."

"OH COME ON!" I said. "What is your problem?"

"Nothing is."

Behind me, I heard a stern voice. In a sailor jacket with his white moustache was Drake. And with him, was Drasna.

"Drake. Drasna. What are you two doing here?"

"Well, I'm Zinnia's Godmother and Drake is my best friend," Drasna said. "You see, the three of us are descendants of the Draconoid people."

I looked at Zinnia. "Well, if a member of the Elite Four is telling me-"

"Now is not the time for jokes," Drake said. "We need to get to Meteor Falls."

Location: Meteor Falls

Meteor Falls still takes my breath away. It's a waterfall inside of a cave that was created by a meteor millions of years ago. Well, multiple.

"So why are we here?" I asked.

"This is the home of the Draconoid people," Zinnia told me. "Or should I say, our ancestors. We come here for meetings all the time. But we're the only ones here today. Drayden after all is too busy looking after the Gym."

We walked to a small wall. "This is it?" I asked.

"Yeah. You see, it's a Super Secret Base. Okay Whismur, use Secret Power!" Whismur's eyes started glowing purple, and it made a hole in the wall appear.

"Wow," I said. "Okay, we can't dawdle."

I sat inside the small base with my allies. There were pictures of Legendary Dragon Types on the wall and a plushie of a Dragonite and Haxorus in the corner.

"So… why did you bring me here?"

"I appreciate your ambition," said Drake. "I really do. But alas, I'm afraid that Rayquaza alone will not be powerful enough to destroy the meteor."

"WHAT?!" I shouted. "What is then?"

"Something stronger," Drasna replied.

"What about Dialga and Palkia?" I asked. "They've been appearing mysteriously in portals created by a Pokémon named Hoopa. I even caught it. Also, look at this." I got out the Prism Bottle. "Phoebe of the Elite Four gave me this. If we can just summon multiple Legendary Pokémon-"

"Then the results will be catastrophic," said Drasna. "We need a lot of power. We need… Mega Rayquaza."

"Mega Rayquaza?" I asked. "But Rayquaza is already. And it has a Mega Evolution?"

"It's a lot to take in," Drake said. "If you feel you're not up to the challenge, I can do it."

"No!" Zinnia said. "Brendan is the Champion of the Hoenn region as well as Rayquaza's Trainer! He can do it!"

"No, I can't," I replied. "I can't even get Swampert to Mega Evolve without it almost killing me. Who's to say I can command Mega Rayquaza properly?"

"We'll just see," Drake said. "Brendan, how about we have a battle?"

"Or how about a Double Battle," Drasna said. "Is it alright if we team up Drake?"

"And I'll be your battle partner!" Zinnia told me. "This will be a tag battle!"

"Sounds like a good idea," I replied. "Let's do this!"

Dragon Woman Drasna and Elite Four Drake Vs. Brendan and Lorekeeper Zinnia

"Go Flygon!" shouted Drake, sending out a green Pokémon with red eyes, large wings and a long tail.

Flygon (フライゴン)

#123 (Hoenn)

Ground/Dragon Type

Mystic Pokémon

6'07" (2 m)

180.8 lbs (82 kg)

Flygon whips up a sandstorm by flapping its wings. The wings creates a series of notes that sound like singing. Because the "singing" is the only thing that can be heard in the sandstorm, this Pokémon is said to be the desert spirit.

Trapinch -Lv 35 Vibrava -Lv 45 Flygon

"I choose Dragalge!" Drasna shouted, sending out a purple and red Pokémon that looked like a large piece of dead kelp.

Dragalge (ドラミドロ)

Poison/Dragon Type

Mock Kelp Pokémon

5'11" (1.8 m)

179.7 lbs (81.5 kg)

Their poison is strong enough to eat through the hull of a tanker, and they spit it indiscriminately at anything that enters their territory.

Skrelp -Lv 48- Dragalge

"I choose Altaria!" shouted Zinnia.

"And I'm using Machamp!" I replied.

"Flygon, use Flamethrower!" Flygon spat fire at Machamp for a direct hit.

"Now Altaria, Moonblast!" Altaria shot the power of the moon at Flygon for a Super Effective hit.

"Machamp, use Stone Edge!" Machamp fired sharp stones at Dragalge. It was a Critical Hit.

"Dragalge dear, Sludge Wave!" Dragalge made a sludge tsunami that enveloped all Pokémon. This included Flygon but being a Ground Type meant it didn't take much damage from it.

"Now Flygon, Dragon Pulse!" Flygon fired a ball of energy at Dragalge, dealing the final blow.

"Machamp, Dynamic Punch on Dragalge!" Machamp punched Dragalge very hard, confusing it in the process. Whilst yes it wasn't effective, I was banking on the confusion. Dynamic Punch is usually a risky move, but Machamp has No Guard which prevents both sides moves from missing.

"Dragalge, use Dragon Pulse!" Instead, Dragalge hit itself. It was down.

"Well, you are the Champion indeed. Go Druddigon!" Drasna sent out a blue and red Pokémon with rough looking scales.

Druddigon (クリムガン)

621 (National)

Dragon Type

Cave Pokémon

5'03" (1.6 m)

306.4 lbs (139 kg)

It warms its body by absorbing sunlight with its wings. When its body temperature falls, it can no longer move.

Druddigon has no known evolutions.

"Salamence, go!" said Zinnia, sending out her Salamence. "Use Dragon Tail on Flygon!" Salamence came forward and swiped at Flygon. It was a Critical Hit and knocked it out.

"Machamp, use Dynamic Punch!" Machamp punched Druddigon. It did a lot of damage, but Machamp was hurt in the process. "Wait, does Druddigon have Rough Skin?"

"Correct dear," Drasna said. "Moves that make direct contact, just like Dynamic Punch, will also hurt Machamp. Okay Druddigon, Dragon Claw!" Druddigon managed to swipe at Machamp. It was a Critical Hit and knocked it out.

"Impressive on defeating my Pokémon Zinnia. Okay Kingdra, go!" Drake sent out his blue Pokémon that looked a bit like Dragalge, but blue and less weedy.

Kingdra (キングドラ)

186

Water/Dragon Type

Dragon Pokémon

5'11" (1.8 m)

335.1 lbs (152 kg)

Kingdra sleeps on the seafloor where it is otherwise devoid of life. When a storm arrives, this Pokémon is said to awaken and wander about in search of prey.

Horsea -Lv 32 Seadra -Trade with Dragon Scale Kingdra

"And I choose Shiftry!" I shouted.

"Kingdra, Ice Beam!" Kingdra fired a white beam at Shiftry. It was a strong hit.

"Use Energy Ball!" Shiftry fired a green ball at Kingdra for a direct strike.

"Salamence, use Fly!" Salamence flew up, or as high as it could go in a cave.

"Druddigon dear, use Brick Break!" Druddigon went up to Shiftry and chopped it. It was down.

"Already at my last Pokémon?" I thought. "Go Swampert!" Out came my partner. "Might want to hurry Zinnia!"

"Got it!" she said. "Attack now Salamence!" Salamence came down and attacked Flygon, knocking it clean.

"Now Swampert, Earthquake!" Swampert made the ground shake. Salamence being a Flying Type wasn't affected. Kingdra was defeated.

"Okay, time for our final Pokémon. Go Noivern!" Drasna sent out a black and purple Pokémon that was flying. It had large bowl-like ears.

Noivern (オンバーン)

#715 (National)

Flying/Dragon Type

Sound Wave Pokémon

4'11" (1.5 m)

187.4 lbs (85 kg)

The ultrasonic waves it emits from its ears can reduce a large boulder to pebbles. It swoops out of the dark to attack.

Noibat -Lv 48- Noivern

"And I choose you!" Drake sent out… an Ampharos?

Ampharos (デンリュウ)

#181 (National)

Electric Type

Light Pokémon

4'07" (1.4 m)

135.6 lbs (61.5 kg)

Ampharos gives off so much light that it can be seen even from space. People in the old days used the light of this Pokémon to send signals back and forth with others far away.

Mareep -Lv 15- Flaaffy -Lv 30- Ampharos

"Wait a minute, Ampharos isn't a Dragon Type!" I said.

"Be patient," Drake replied.

Deciding not to let confusion get the best of me, I continued the battle. "Swampert, Rock Slide!" Swampert made rocks fall from the ceiling. They hit Noivern but missed Ampharos.

"Use Dragon Pulse Noivern!" Noivern shot a massive amount of energy at Salamence. It was a Critical Hit, knocking it out.

"Now Ampharos, Dragon Pulse."

"Look out Swampert," I said.

"On Noivern!"

"WHAT?!" Zinnia shouted.

Ampharos fired the dragon energy at Noivern knocking it out.

"What was that for?!" I shouted.

"This is our battle now," Drake said. "Zinnia, step aside."

"Why?" she asked.

"Because… I'm here to help!" Drake took away the anchor pattern on his cap to reveal…

"A Mega Stone?!" I yelled.

"You want to be trained in the art of Mega Evolution? You want to control it? I will gladly help." Drake pressed the Mega Stone on his hate, and Ampharos started glowing. When the energy died, Mega Ampharos had glorious-white hair protruding from its back.

Mega Ampharos (メガ- デンリュウ)

#181 (National)

Electric/Dragon Type

Light Pokémon

4'07" (1.4 m)

135.6 lbs (61.5 kg)

Upon Mega Evolving, Ampharos awakened the powers of the Dragon Type. This caused the wool that was once lost to glow magnificently.

Mareep -Lv 15- Flaaffy -Lv 30- Ampharos

"I understand now. You know what to do!" Zinnia shouted.

"Yeah," I said. I pulled down my sleeve. "When our hearts become one. Beyond evolution, MEGA EVOLVE!" I pressed the Key Stone, and Swampert went through the process.

"Ampharos, Focus Blast!" Mega Ampharos made a ball of energy in its hand, and threw it at Mega Swampert. It was a direct hit. I saw Mega Swampert start to struggle.

"Swampert, snap out of it!" I shouted.

"STOP!" Drake said. "That isn't working together."

"Really? Swampert… YOU CAN DO IT!"

Mega Swampert slowly started to gain control. "It might listen now!" said Drasna.

"Well, let's try. Swampert, Earthquake!" Mega Swampert made the largest earthquake it had ever made. It battered Mega Ampharos, knocking it out in one shot.

"Thank you for the battle dear!"

"You were amazing."

"Swampert, the battle is over!" However, Mega Swampert was starting to struggle again.

"Relax," Drake said. "Don't tell it to stop. Merge your hearts."

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. In the dark void, I could see Mega Swampert starting to struggle.

"Swampert," I said quietly. Mega Swampert stopped and heard me. "The battle. We won it. We did it together. Thank you." Mega Swampert looked at me, then nodded. All the Mega Energy ceased, and it became normal Swampert again.

"You did it!" Zinnia said.

"Quite," Drake said. "Zinnia, I am sorry for what I did in that battle. But saving the world needed priority over this battle."

"I understand," Zinnia said.

"And Brendan. That was a very good match. Whilst I can't say you've conquered Mega Evolution, you've taken a huge step. Probably huge enough to Mega Evolve Rayquaza. Tomorrow, you and Zinnia will head over to Sky Pillar and summon Rayquaza with a battle. Then, if it likes what you've done, go into space and destroy the meteorite."

"Go into space, sim- where?" I asked. "Space? Like, outer space?"

"Relax, you'll still be in the Earth's atmosphere," said Drasna. "You're not going to Jupiter or anything like that."

"Yeah, but it still seems so extreme," I replied. "And Earth's atmosphere or not, I can't breath up there. I need a spacesuit."

"Then I will head to Mossdeep City now," Drake said. "As for you Brendan, get some rest."

"But the meteorite!" I panicked.

"I've been delaying you for a reason," said Zinnia. "Tomorrow, the meteorite will be in the atmosphere. That will make it easier to destroy."

"You couldn't have said that before?" I asked.

"I'd get some sleep now," Drasna said. "We can't have you start an argument now. It's a make it or break it moment tomorrow, and if you're drowsy, then that won't be good."

I decided that was a good idea.

"Drake," I said. "Tell Steven Stone the plan if he's over there."

"I was planning to," he said.
