Cherith frowns as she parks her car by her house, looking at the large crowd of neighbors gathering around their own houses, whispering and about 4 cop cars on the road.
She rushes towards her door, still jittery and wanting to be sure the rest of her family was at least okay.
As she moved to walk in, a police officer stops her and she turns to him glaring.
"You can't come in ma'am."
"Excuse me?! I live here asshat!"
She shouts out at him and some turn to them as the cop turns a deep red, letting her pass through and she jogs up the stairs.
"Jeremy?! You in here?!"
She calls out.
"In here."
Elena's voice answered instead and she walks into Jeremy's room, Elena there pacing and Jeremy on the bed, slight tears in his eyes.
She frowned.
"Why aren't you guys at the hospital? Are you still getting interviewed by the cops?"
She asked and Elena shook her head.
"No, they're just surveying the scene of the crime. Jeremy on the other hand, drank Anna's blood and took pills to kill himself!"
Elena ranted, fear in her eyes and Cherith's head snapped to her brother who was still quiet and anger grew on her face.
"Jeremy?! What the hell?!"
She walked up to him but once he looked right at her, her anger melted away at his vulnerable face.
Elena gets a call and quickly excuses herself.
"Jemmie… what's wrong?"
"It's Anna, Cherry… she's dead!"
He struggled out and Cherith sat down with a flop, hugging her brother tightly which her reciprocates.
She might be less emotional, but she was capable of feelings, especially when it was for the right person.
As much as she hated Anna, especially for trying to turn her siblings and herself into blood bags for her mother, Jeremy had actually liked her quite a lot.
She knew she had been talking about stabbing the girl and all but he had also been through a lot. Vicki dead and now Anna.
They'd made her brother happy, even if she felt he deserved better than the two of them could ever offer, but that was just her bias.
"Sorry Jemmie."
She whispered slightly, not knowing what to say.
Jeremy alone had gone through 4 losses in the course of 2 years alone.
It could quite possibly damage him. She knew how she felt when her parents died. She still hated thinking too much about it though she was slowly making peace with it.
Elena walked back in, Stefan in tow and Cherith and Jeremy separated, turning to the two as Stefan rudely moved over to Jeremy, pushing Cherith slightly and she frowned, standing up and crossing her arms, feeling all jittery again.
Stefan takes Jeremy's face in his hands and examines his eyes.
"Hey, Look at me."
He whispered to Jeremy who frowned, slapping Stefan's hands off his face.
"I'm fine, okay? I feel exactly the same."
"Should I call a paramedic up here? What should I do?"
Elena asked, scared and wary and Cherith looked at her brother too. She had totally forgotten he'd ingested Anna's blood and could be turning into a vampire at the moment.
But… she had hugged him. She hadn't felt any cold feeling whatsoever.
"No, he's fine."
Stefan shook his head, standing up and Jeremy looked put out at that.
"You mean I'm not a vampire? Damn it!"
Oh, this idiot. Cherith gritted her teeth and Elena glared at Jeremy.
"Don't say that Jeremy! Jer, why would you want that?"
Jeremy glared at her, standing up and turning to Elena while Cherith moved away from the emotionally rising group, trying to stay calm.
"Did you hear about Anna, what happened to her tonight? She's dead."
"Jeremy, I am very sorry about Anna, but it's very important that you listen to me right now. With every passing moment, Anna's blood is leaving your system. If you try to kill yourself right now, you could really die."
Jeremy looks away and Cherith watches her brother concerned.
Stefan steps towards him, slapping his cheek to get his attention and Cherith frowned at him.
"Hey!"
He slaps him again before holding his head harshly and Cherith gritted her teeth. Was he forgetting his Vampire strength?!
"Do you understand me?!"
"Stefan..."
Elena hesitantly called out but Cherith's agitation was still just calming and she didn't like how Stefan was treating her brother who was going through a loss.
"Knock it off you ass!!"
She finally shouts out and without even realizing it, red energy mist explodes out of her, blowing Stefan slightly away from Jeremy and the whole room shook slightly.
"Oh my God! Stefan!"
Elena rushed to his side, checking to see if he was okay while Jeremy moved to his sister with a frown, holding her hands as her heart beat quickened slightly.
What would have happened if her siblings had turned to dust??
She'd never have been able to live with herself.
But today… her powers had been going through a high and even if she could control it now better than earlier, it seemed so… accessible to her. And wasn't that alarming…
"You good?"
Jeremy asked her and she nodded shakily, not noticing Stefan's frown as he heard her quickened heartbeat but said nothing.
Cherith huffed, turning to Elena and Stefan.
"Look, if you're both done with whatever it is you're checking on him, can we leave for the hospital now?"
She turned to Jeremy, wanting to leave the room that was felt so tiny to her at the moment.
"I'll go with you."
Jeremy says and she nods stiffly, walking past the couple and jogging down the stairs as Jeremy grabbed a hoodie and joined her.
There were still some cops around though they were mainly just finishing up and Cherith sat in her car, turning on the ignition and driving towards the hospital.
The car was quiet for a few minutes before Jeremy spoke.
"Are your powers giving you trouble?"
He asked her and Cherith looked ahead, not sure what to say.
What could she tell him?
Her powers were getting too strong… too powerful, to the extent that she practically turned two Vampires into dust.
Jeremy gave her a side look.
"You need to talk you know… might make you feel better."
A frustrated sigh escaped her lips.
"Yes Jeremy! Yes! My powers are indeed spiraling out of control to the extent that it might end up hurting a lot of people and I'm not sure I know how to control it!"
She spits out bitterly, her hands tightening slightly around the wheels of her car.
"What are you gonna do now?"
He softly asks her and she grimaces as the hospital building came in view and she realized she'd be speeding a lot.
"I don't know, Jemmie… I really don't. I'm a bit scared and apprehensive, cause my powers are increasing by the day and… I don't know what may happen, and what I'm capable of if I let it all out… because I just might end up doing that, and when I do… the world just may burn…"
Mystic Falls General.
Jeremy and Cherith walked towards the counter as soon as they entered the building, moving to a lady typing away in the computer.
"Hi, um do you have any idea where John Gilbert is being kept?"
Jeremy asked, knowing if he let Cherith talk, she'd be sassy and annoying and no one needed that right now.
The lady nodded pointing them a destination.
"You can go just over there and sit, he's still in surgery right now so you can wait."
Jeremy thanked the woman and the two siblings moved to sit down.. before Cherith sat though, she spotted Matt and Bonnie sitting a bit further away from them and she turned to her brother.
"Hey, I'll be right back Jeremy."
Jeremy nodded as he brought out his phone, typing away and Cherith moved to the other two.
"Hey Matt, Bonnie… how's Caroline?"
She asked them as she sat down next to Bonnie and Bonnie sighed.
"She's not good Cherry… it's really critical, she might not…"
Bonnie stuttered, not able to finish it and her eyes turned wet as she struggled not to cry, making Cherith pat her sympathetically on her back.
"How are you fairing Matt?"
Matt sighed, looking down, fiddling with his hand and eyes red.
"I don't… I don't even know what to say. I mean, it's Caroline. I just… I can't… I'm sorry, Cherith, I'll be right back."
He excused himself, rubbing at his eyes as he walked off and Cherith sighed, wondering why this was happening. Why all of this was happening at once. Tyler's dad dead, Caroline in the hospital, John as well. It was all a disaster.
"I think Tyler heard the invention too."
Cherith frowned at what Bonnie whispered to her.
"What?"
"Matt said that Tyler complained about hearing this noise that he and Caroline couldn't hear. That's why he lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Once again, it's my freaking fault."
Cherith frowned, looking deep in thought, even as Bonnie stood up when she caught sight of Elena and walked over to her.
Cherith sat with a look on her face.
Why had Tyler of all people heard the invention, when even she hadn't? Then again she was a witch, it wasn't directed towards her kind.
But Tyler wasn't even a vampire.
Was that why his father was also rounded up with the rest??
Had he also heard it too?
Things were indeed getting more curious and curious.
About an hour later, Cherith decided to head back home to have a much needed rest.
A lot had happened that day and she didn't want this aggression she seemed to be acquiring to force her into doing another thing again.
Elena had told her that Stefan was at their house, incase the murderer decided to sneak in again and wait for them or something while they slept.
Cherith could definitely see that happening and the thought angered her even more, especially towards Elena.
Inviting the first vampire in had led to a number of them having access to their home.
She didn't think she'd stay diplomatic if another one earned an invitation once more. She might probably end up turning everyone to dust. That is, if she ever learned how to access that power.
And she wasn't so sure she was ever gonna practice it. Could you imagine if she ended up touching someone and the whole world turns to dust?? Yeah… no way.
As she walked up the porch, she saw the lights were indeed still on, meaning Stefan was still in the house.
She groaned slightly, not wanting to have to talk to him.
Stefan had this busybody personality, much like his asshole of a brother now that she thought about it.
She slammed the door open childishly so he'd know she was back and as she walks in, using her magic to slam the door close, she stopped, confusion in her eyes as she sees Stefan push Elena off of him harshly.
Elena that she'd just left some minutes ago at the hospital.
"The fuck?"
She mumbled, looking at the two who were looking harried.
"Cherith…"
Stefan speaks out warily as he stares at Elena who tilts her head at Cherith and smirks, posing.
Cherith gave her an unimpressed look.
"What the fuck is going on here? I just left you at—Wait a damn minute."
Cherith paused, looking at 'Elena' from head to toe, eyes narrowed.
Different outfit, different air of attitude, doesn't look meek though still looks annoying.
And then there was the amazing hair.
She frowned, glaring at her.
"You're not Elena."
She whispers out and 'Elena' looks at her, slightly startled and frowns.
"Cherith… what are you talking about?"
She tries to ask nicely but Cherith scoffs, feeling the unnaturalness of vampire magic coming off of her now that she focused on this… exact doppelganger of her sister.
"Oh cut it out whoever you are! First of all, Elena rarely calls me 'Cherith'."
Cherith mocks and immediately, her hands light up and form into a fist and a shocked Katherine crumples to the ground with a gasp as her body seemingly became unmoving.
"Also… the Elena I know is 100% allergic to amazing hair! Which you carry right now!"
Stefan gives her a 'really?!' look which she ignores as she turns to the girl again who shies away from Cherith at the power and red mist rolling off of her in waves.
Her eyes were flickering brighter now and her magic creating windy air in the room which whipped dangerously around them.
It was marvelous… and it was scary.
"Who the fuck are you?!"
She demanded again and energy coming out of her and spreading like it had a mind of it's own, peels off some of the paints on the wall and the floor beneath her begins to rot.
Stefan's face turns to one of concern even as Katherine sat on the ground, eyes wide with fear at what she could only describe as a predator.
It made her feel like her life could be snuffed out at any moment. The only other person she had ever felt that way for was—
"Cherith…"
Stefan softly brought her out of her mind and she looks at his uncertain expression, making her look around her at the growing destruction she was creating.
She finally noticed the walls and the floor and her eyes widened, making her loose control of her hold on Katherine and Katherine uses that opportunity to stand up, throw Stefan down and blur off.
Stefan groaned slightly as she stood up and in that moment, Damon and Elena walked in.
"Oh my God! What happened here?!"
Elena gasps out, rushing towards her sister who stops her with a hand block, glaring at her even as Elena looked around at the damaged room in apprehension.
"Since when we're you going to tell me you had a twin?! Or that you were a freaking face stealer?!"
Elena's eyes widened in shock.
"Wha—What are you talking about Cherry?"
"Katherine."
Stefan sighed out, putting his hands on his waist and nodding as Elena asks if he was okay.
Damon sighed, frustration in his eyes.
"Katherine happened."
Cherith's eyes snapped to Stefan's.
"Wait… THAT, was Katherine?! The girl who had you both wrapped around her fingers?!"
"I can't believe this shit!"
Cherith rants out as she paced around the living room that night, Stefan and Elena together while Damon was looking around the damaged house.
"You and that girl… Katerina—"
"Katherine." Damon.
"Katherine." Stefan.
Cherith ignored them both and continued.
"Looked exactly the same! You're like… doppelgangers of each other! There was no difference… except, perhaps she has better hair but—that's beside the point! I knew you loved to hoard information like some mafia boss but this one has gone too far!"
She snarled at her sister who looked down guiltily.
Stefan cut in, rubbing Elena's shoulder reassuringly.
"It wasn't her fault Cherith. She had no idea this was going to happen."
"Argh!"
Cherith shouted out in frustration, startling the others and Damon turned to her with a smirk, arms folded.
"This! Is why I can't with you 3! Your IQ is just so low that I could never fully get along with you people!"
"Cherry!"
Elena gasped out looking offended and Damon snorts.
"Well look who's talking, Miss I Have A Temper Tantrum And So I'll Destroy My House."
He smirks and Cherith turns to him with a sneer.
"At least I can repair whatever I've destroyed. Mr. Break My Sugar Mama Out Of The Tomb And Almost Cause The Annihilation Of The Whole Freaking Town."
With that, she turns towards the destroyed parts of the room and grimaced, before her hands lit up and then held them palm up, moving them as if she was directing an orchestra.
Red energy filled the room as the floors lost it's rottened look and the wall paint reassembled as it once was, making the room look as pristine as it once was.
She stopped, clapping her hands in satisfaction as if removing imaginary dust and turning to the other 3 who were now spotting impressed looks with a high amount of awe and Cherith scoffed.
"I know I'm awesome, no need to look so surprised."
She walked past them and into the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water.
"Did she say what she wanted?"
Damon asked Stefan who shook his head.
"No. She was being scared into submission by Cherith here who knew right away that wasn't her sister."
Elena and Damon turned to her impressed.
"You knew? How?"
Damon asked and Cherith scoffed.
"It was pretty easy. Elena has unimpressive hair."
Elena rewarded her sister with an unimpressed look while Damon snorted.
"When you put it that way. Woman certainly knows how to make an entrance. I am impressed you could take her down though. Good job Cherry Berry."
Cherith ignored him.
"Oh please. I still don't like your ass."
"But my ass is delectable!"
He playfully whined, showing it to her and her eyes turned crimson and he moved back, hands up in the air playfully as he smirked.
Stefan though, suddenly remembered something.
"She said she fooled one of us, at least. What does that mean?"
Damon shrugs, walking around slowly and unbothered.
"She pretended to be Elena too when I showed up earlier tonight."
Stefan looked like he wanted to ask more but Elena spoke up again, turning to Cherith with a decisive face.
"I told Jeremy, I can't lie to him anymore."
Cherith gives her an unipressed look.
"And I'm supposed to say bravo or something? It's a little too late anyways, he practically knows almost everything already. You just did it to ease your guilt. Jeremy is a nice brother and he'd probably end up forgiving you in no time. But I'm a Pisces hun… I'll be putting myself and my own worries before others."
"Isn't that just selfish?"
Damon butted in and Cherith shrugs.
"You think I'm gonna deny it? Besides… that Katerina girl is even more Selfish! She couldn't just let you two die in 1864, save us all the trouble of having you around. Noooo… she had to act like Edward Cullen!"
"What is it with you and Twilight references??"
"Shut up Damon."
"Are you alright?"
Stefan asked Elena who sighed ruefully.
"No, I'm not alright. I thought that with all the tomb vampires gone things would get better."
"I know. We all did."
He reassures her and then Cherith brought up an important question.
"Katerina—"
"Katherine."
"IT'S THE SAME FREAKING NAME DAMON SALVATORE! LIVE WITH IT!"
She shouted out at him angrily before continuing her previous question as he gave her a mouth zipping expression.
"Anyways… this chick has already been invited in, and I don't know about you guys, but I can't keep up energy fields every time when I want to sleep because the other one can walk into the house without needing any invitation now."
"Well, Katherine wants you dead, Elena… and probably you now also Cherry Berry, what with attacking her… and there's zero you can do about it. As for you Elena, you should be dead but you're not. So clearly she has other plans."
Damon spoke again and Stefan nodded.
"Right and we need to find out what those other plans are and not provoke her in the process."
He then turned to his brother suspiciously.
"What happened tonight when you thought she was Elena?"
"To risk another frown line encroaching on a very crowded forehead. We…kissed."
Damon smirked and Cherith grimaced as she heard that.
The fuck kind of romantic series was she witnessing?!
"And you thought it was me?"
Elena raised an eyebrow but Stefan wasn't having any of it.
"What do you mean you kissed?"
"Well, you know, when two lips pucker and they go."
Damon puckers his lips and makes kissing noises which seemed to aggravate Stefan even more as he rushes at brother with his super speed but Damon uses his super speed as well and stands next to Elena.
"Don't be obvious, Stefan."
He mocked and Stefan grits his teeth angrily, walking towards Damon again but Elena gets up and puts her hand in front of Stefan.
"Stefan wait, he kissed Katherine, not me."
She looks at Damon with a frown
"I wouldn't do that. We don't have time for this guys."
"Later."
Stefan promised and Cherith groaned out, making the other 3 realize she was still there.
"You three are absolutely disgusting! Geez Elena, you should just become a throuple or something! I assure you your romantic adversaries are as impressive as I can throw this bottle."
She threw the bottle into the garbage can in front of her and grins sardonically at them.
"I guess that's as impressive as they can reach."
She stands up, stretching slightly.
"Well! You guys can continue your lover's spat or whatever. I'm heading to bed."
She walks around them, making Elena startled.
"What? But Cherry… she's been invited in. We could all be in danger."
Cherith snorts not turning back.
"Have you forgotten I wasn't even told about you being a face stealer in the first place? Besides…"
She turns to them with a fake grin.
"While I'm rather curious about why you both look alike, I still have a life to live. School to go to sadly and all that. Fighting!"
She raises a fist and walks away.
As she gets up the stairs, the fake grin drops from her face and a blank look appeared instead.
Nightmare Sequence.
"Cherith, please… don't do this!"
Elena cried out, her body filled with different injuries as she begged Cherith who floated up ahead, crimson energy forming a circle around her, her whole body made of pure energy. All white with crimson at all edges with gold moving in the whites. No facial or body features seen, just absolute light.
There was no discerning features of who she was, it was just a glowing body of energy to others but indeed, it was Cherith.
She held Jenna in the air who gasped, holding her neck like an invisible force held it and tears streamed down her face.
"Cherry… it's me…"
She gasped out in pain but the floating energy doesn't twitch as she throws out an arm and chaos energy formed above her into a sharp claw and Elena cries out.
"Cherry no! Please! This isn't you!"
Cherith brings the arm down and as Jenna screams, the giant floating claw made of chaos drives through her and blood splatters on Elena's face and body as Jenna drops to the ground lifeless, looking a bloody and gory mess, eyes open and unseeing.
The floating Cherith moves towards Elena who whimpers with tears, her face red with blood.
A few feet away laid the dead bodies of Jeremy, The Salvatore brothers, Bonnie, Caroline, Matt, Leslie, Tyler, Alaric and John, and many others, all mutilated beyond comprehension, guts out for the world to see.
"You're a monster!"
Elena spat out coldly at her sister and Cherith pauses, making Elena think she'd gotten to her sister.
The energy seemed to bleed down Cherith's head, making her features be seen again and she looks all dark and evil.
She smirks at her sister.
"Monster am I? Well indeed I shall be then. But know this…"
Her eyes narrowed with a snarl playing on her lips.
"You all made me like this…"
A sword made out of energy appears and Elena is levitated up as she struggles and screams which does absolutely nothing.
Cherith grabs the sword, ignoring as her sister begs her not to kill her and spare her.
Cherith grins, madness in her crimson eyes that seemed to have polluted her amethyst eyes and they were now intertwined.
She raises the sword and slices her sister from the waist down and blood splatters on her.
As the body drops to the ground, she looks at the bloodied sword, bringing the tip to her tongue and blood leaks down and into her mouth, some pooling down her chin and as the sword dissipates, she smirks.
"I am Chaos…"
The energy covers her face again and she floats away, the skies crimson red with lightning and blood pouring from the skies like rain.
Gilbert Residence.
Cherith woke up early the next morning with a groan as her alarm rang, stretching and putting on black leggings, a cherry red crop tank top and a black unzipped cardigan, hair in a ponytail and jogging down the stairs.
It was around 6:00am and so she knew no one would be down yet.
She grabbed a bottle water from the fridge and left the house, going for a jog.
She'd decided to go for a jog as she needed something, anything, to distract her mind and magic and also build up stamina as well.
Sitting in one place wasn't good for her. Early this morning, she'd had a rather nightmarish dream of being a monster and slaughtering everyone she knew.
It had been so detailed looking that she actually thought it had been real and she'd woken up around 3 am with a gasp, sneaking into her aunt and siblings' rooms just to be sure they were still breathing.
It was one of the reasons she'd set her alarm to 6 so she could run off her fear as she'd fought herself into a nap.
The cold air of the morning seemed to calm her as she ran without even breathing heavily.
A lot was on her mind so that must have been a reason.
Today was the Mayor's funeral and the Gilberts were going to pay their respects to the family.
As much as she thought Tyler a dick, even he didn't deserve to lose a father, no matter how much of an ass the Mayor had been.
Cherith sat down by the road walk, taking a gulp of water and realizing that she was quite far from home.
She checked her watch and saw that it was actually a bit past 7.
She still had a while anyways, the funeral party was around 12 and the Gilberts themselves would be heading over by 1 and leaving as fast as they could.
Totally understandable what with the reminder the funeral itself was bringing up.
Cherith stood up again, doing some simple stretches before beginning her run back home.
When she walked through the door, Jenna was already down in the kitchen, making herself coffee.
"Morning Jens."
Cherith greeted her aunt as she moved to make herself a loaded oatmeal bowl, with some sliced strawberries, blueberry and some almond nuts with a large helping of milk. She was a milk person.
"Well look at you, becoming an health junkie."
Cherith snorted as she swallowed a mouthful of her breakfast.
"I'm not becoming an health junkie. I just have a lot of energy I really need to let lose. This is the best way to do just that. Can you please get some protein shakes and energy bars at the supermarket too? Oh, and a workout bottle while you're at it?"
Jenna looked at her impressed.
"Wow… looks like you'll be really getting into it then. I mean, I don't know why you need to exercise and all, you already have the body of a goddess, and you're just 16!"
Cherith smirked smugly.
"It's because nature loves me so."
Jenna scoffed.
"Oh shut up brat."
She ruffled her niece's hair.
"Don't forget we'll be leaving for the Lockwood's around 1, okay?"
"Can I leave before you guys? The house is getting too stuffy. I need to step out for a bit."
Jenna nodded.
"Sure… where has the introvert I've always known gone to?"
She joked and Cherith shrugged.
"She's still in here. Just going through life and all."
Jenna snickered.
"Ah… I remember when I was your age. I dreamt that I'd move to Hawaii, which is practically my dream place to live, mind you…"
"Oh?"
"Yeah. I still have hopes of moving there, mind you… but obviously not at the moment anyways… but I'm not giving up on it though…"
There was still strange glow in Jenna's eyes when she talked about her hopes and dreams and it made Cherith wish with all her heart that Jenna achieved them.
And Cherith would make sure she did.
Jenna was the greatest after all.
"Morning!"
Jeremy greeted as he walked down the stairs, spotting his sister in her jogging outfit and moved to grab a cup of coffee.
"Whose body did you go and bury this morning?"
Cherith glared at him as she moved to wash her plate.
"I went jogging you asshole!"
"Language." Jenna chided as she went through her phone absentmindedly.
"Jogging? Wow… something really must be going on with you. Should I be worried?"
Cherith stamped on his foot making him curse out as she skipped up the stairs to take her shower.
"Mother--Devil's Anus--Fucker!!!!"
He screamed out in pain as she'd added a bit of magic into doing that and Jenna's phone dropped from her hand, startled at such profoundly disgusting words from her nephew.
She sighed as she picked up her phone.
"I thought I was doing well… I thought I was a better guardian now! Where the hell are you learning these words from?!"
Cherith snickered, hearing her aunt's shout from up the stairs.
Lockwood Residence.
Cherith was dressed in a black lace bralette crop top, dark olive green fitted pants with the ends tucked to her calf and black platform boots as she got to the Lockwood Residence, her hair in a low ponytail and a black shoulder bag.
People were lined slightly by the front door as a slightly sullen but okay looking Tyler stood by the doorway, inviting people in.
It reminded her of the accident again the previous year.
She'd called Matt already that morning who'd given the phone to Caroline.
She had sounded better. Great, even! It was practically surprising.
But then again, it was Caroline, the girl never stayed in one place for too long. The hospital was probably even worse.
She hadn't gone to see John yet. Probably after the whole Lockwood issue and then she'd bounce.
Tyler smiled slightly as he saw her.
He looked meeker than she'd ever seen him, which was obviously understandable, especially with what he had just gone through.
Cherith remembered when her parents had died. She'd looked like a zombie through and through.
She didn't wash her hair, she wore outfits that were rarely coordinated and she basically bled black.
"Hey Cherith. Thanks for coming."
He greeted her and Cherith subconsciously smiles at him, patting his shoulder sympathetically before walking in.
This all reminded her too much of what she'd gone through.
The people all saying sorry and it'll be okay and always asking how she was doing.
She wouldn't wish it on her own enemy.
She avoided some of the older crowd as she walked in, not wanting to be pulled into terribly awful conversations about how the Mayor had done so much for the town or how he was a kind and noble man.
She scoffed.
"Hi Cherry, anything else happen?"
Cherry turned to 'Elena' dressed in all black, heels and her wavy hair scattered around her and she rolled her eyes.
"If you're trying to impersonate Elena, you have failed. Utterly woefully."
Katherine smirks unapologetic and looks around.
"Well you're the only one who's noticed."
"That's because I take notice of things. Now get away from me please. I need my alone time."
Katherine smiles coyly as she follows the redhead towards the food table, grabbing a small sandwich and popping it in her mouth.
At least the food was good.
"Try not to impersonate her in school mind you. You'll be bad at trying to act all innocent and meek like Elena. And I don't need people wondering if having split personalities is a thing in the Gilbert household."
"You know I tried going to high school once… see what that twilight book was all about… it was an absolute bore. There was blood yes, people to fight over me… students and teachers included…"
Katherine grins unabashedly and Cherith thought that if she wasn't a seemingly raging psychopath, and if she hadn't changed the Salvatore brothers, she just may have liked her company.
"But high school is so overrated."
Cherith sighs, turning fully to face Katherine who had a playful smirk on her face but a wary hint in her eyes.
"Another reason you can't play my sister? Most people know we're having a bit of a 'spat' right now, and I'd rather be dragging her limp hair across the floor than having a nice and civilized conversation with her."
Amusement shone in Katherine's dark eyes.
"You have fire… like one of my blood. Sadly you aren't. I could see the Salvatore brothers slaving over you instead, not my dish water doppelganger."
Cherith scoffed, folding her arms.
"Please! I'd rather dance naked with Tyler on a full moon than have any of them even look at me with moony eyes."
Katherine smirked interestedly.
"You really don't like them, do you? You should have warned your sister away from them then."
Cherith raised an eyebrow.
"She's of your blood, isn't she? You can't seem to stay away from them either."
With that, Cherith turned to walk off when Katherine spoke again.
"Your magic… it's, very different… very powerful. And yet…"
She smiled devilishly, walking to Cherith's side.
"You've gone unnoticed by the big bads of the supernatural community. I wonder what they'd do to have you if and when they find out. How they'd want to… control that power."
She whispered in a passive aggressive voice and Cherith snickered, turning to face Katherine and startling the girl.
"Oh honey… they're welcome to try. Please, send them my way… I've been looking to practice. Except… maybe you'd like to volunteer?"
Cherith innocently asked, fire in her eyes before it melts away and an icy look appears on her face.
"Now, stop trying to play nice with me. You want to use me to get to Elena, don't you Katerina?"
The moment the name came out of Cherith's mouth, Katherine's face turns a pale color but Cherith was still caught up in her rant.
"I don't like your face. I already have an annoying sister carrying it I don't need to see this face everywhere I go. You're too smug, too arrogant. And you use too much hairspray. I don't familiarize myself with strangers easily. No one has ever stood out to me before, so you should just go back to tormenting the brothers. And Elena too… at least a little, but if you go too far with her, or even so much as touch the hair of the rest of my family… you'll find yourself with no arms and no legs… you'll find yourself becoming a weak thing that crawls around with her tongue. And then I'll cut your tongue too. And your eyeballs too… I've always wondered if a vampire can regenerate those."
She mumbled loosely before shaking her head and glaring at a still speechless Katherine, turning to walk away.
"That name… how do you know that name?"
She asks rather shakily and Cherith looks at her weirdly.
"Isn't that your name? You know what—I don't even care. Have a craptastic day."
She walks off, leaving Katherine trying to regain herself as she moves outside and to the front porch.
Cherith rolls her eyes at her stupid conversation with the Kat chick.
Why was she even offended about her name in the first place??
Cherith wasn't her mother, if she had anything against it she should stake herself and go demand an explanation from her mother in the after life or something.
"Baby Gilbert! How lovely to run into another witch."
Damon's voice called at her and Cherith placed a hand to the bridge of her nose.
Whatever deity was testing her… she'd hunt them down till the ends of the earth.
"Come now, aren't you happy to see me?"
Cherith just gave him a blank look.
"I'd slap you but it would be animal abuse. I don't want Mystic Falls citizens staring at me with horror in their eyes."
Damon gasps mockingly.
"I know you love me. Deep down in that icy heart of yours… it beats for me."
He smirked, his eyes doing some kind of funny thing and Cherith rolled her eyes unimpressed.
"I don't know if I should feel bad for the women who actually fell for your pick up lines or denounce them from being part of my gender. Walk away Salvatore. I'm busy with life."
She walks off, texting Leslie.
'Yo Les, where are you?!'
A few seconds passed and a buzz sounded from her phone as she walked around, not caring where she was going
'Sorry babe! Can't make it, Gran caught a slight cold this morning. I'm staying with her.'
'Oh. Will she be okay? Should I come over and help out or something?'
'Nah, it's not serious really. Say hi to Tyler for me, yeah? And give me the deets about everything that happens okay?!'
Cherith snorts before typing back.
'Lol, sure whatever. Bye.'
She turns off her phone as she stops in front of what looked to be the Mayor's Office.
Tyler sat on a sofa, an older guy who had similar features to Tyler but dressed more casually also in the room.
She cleared her throat, startling the two who turn to her as she saunters inside, looking at Tyler holding a hip flask.
"Leslie sends her greetings."
Was all she said as she swiped the flask from his hand a takes a sip, leaving Tyler exasperated and Mason stares in horrified fascination.
She tosses it back to Tyler and finally notices Mason still staring at her and she raises an eyebrow at him.
"I know I'm utterly good-looking and all but this is too much."
A small laugh escapes his lips unintentionally before he takes a better look at her face.
"You look familiar. Aren't you Jenna Sommers' niece?"
"The good-looking one, yes."
She nodded confidently and his grin widened.
"How is she, by the way?"
Cherith shrugs.
"She's Jenna. Well, I should go, leave you two and all. Bye."
She walks out, getting ready to leave.
Gilbert Residence.
As Cherith packed her car in front of the house, she sees John dragging his luggage out and frowns, walking over to him.
"Should you even be on your feet right now?"
John smiled as he put his things in his trunk, turning to his niece, amazed at just how much she was like Christian, regardless of how much she looked like her mother.
"I'm better now. But I'm leaving."
Cherith crosses her arms.
"Yeah, I can see that. So that's it? You're leaving town because some psychotic bitch tried to chop you into sausage links?"
John shakes his head at her.
"One of these days I hope for your sake that you don't get on the bad side of someone powerful. Even if you have… magic."
He added and Cherith suddenly realized this was the first time he was actively bringing it up with her.
"I was wondering when you'd ask about it."
"So, Iola Cadwallader was a witch hunh?... I didn't notice a thing. Then again, I'm 100% sure my brother knew but kept it a secret."
Cherith scoffed.
"As he should! If he hadn't my mum would have sent his ass out into space with her magic."
John smiled.
"Yes. I have no doubt she would have. She was a rather ferocious Welsh woman. Goodbye Cherry."
He greeted her as he entered his car, putting on his glasses and Cherith nodded at him, watching as he put the ignition on and drove off.
Cherith couldn't wait till when she could do that.
It was just a few months now… she couldn't wait.
That night, Cherith had slept rather early, especially since it would be a school day tomorrow and the principal apparently wanted to have a word with her.
She wasn't too deep in when she hears Elena's cries coming from her room and she sat up disgruntled.
What now?
Had Katherine stolen Stefan from her or what??
She stood up from her bed, walking out of her room and slamming Elena's door open.
"What now, Elena! I'm trying to—"
She stops short as she sees a weeping Elena cradling the head of an unconscious Jeremy and her magic suddenly whips to life within her.
Elena looks up at her with teary devastated eyes.
"Lenie… what's going on?"
She shakily asks her sister, legs becoming unmovable as her heart began beating fast.
"D-damon…"
She cries out.
"He… he snapped Jeremy's neck!"
She sobs out and it suddenly felt like a string had been cut in Cherith's heart as she stumbles forward with a gasp, falling to her knees and grabbing at Jeremy's neck, feeling no pulse and just damage.
A heart wrenching sob escapes her lips and tears fall from her eyes and her lips wobble.
"No… no, please not Jeremy… please, wake up…"
She weakly hits at him but he doesn't answer and she cries out, her voice catching at her throat as she held tightly at her shirt, yanking it harshly at the pain she was feeling.
She let out a cry, chaos magic lashing out of her in waves, making the room shake and some items to lift around and Elena tries to console her sister as best as she could.
"Cherry—"
But Cherith wasn't taking it as she pushes her sister away harshly, making her fall on her ass.
"This is all your fault!"
She cries at her, glaring hatefully at her sister, eyes turning a crimson red.
"You should have seen him for what he was! For what he has always been!"
Her hair began billowing as the air in the room picked up and a devastated looking Elena suddenly caught sight of the ring on Jeremy's hand and she gasps, kneeling and grabbing his hand.
"Cherith look! He had the ring on!"
She gasps out, relief clouding her and Cherith felt hope grow within her grief as she held her brother's head on her lap, cuddling into it and crying as Elena holds his hand desperately, hoping for him to wake at anytime.
In that moment, Stefan arrives, an urgent look on his face and Cherith looked up, staring at him only with anger.
He noticed the look she was currently giving him as he moved to hug Elena and guilt wracked at his insides.
"Your brother did this…"
She spat out at him and he winced slightly.
"I know… and I am so sorry. It's Katherine. She got under his skin. She undid everything that was good about him."
Elena shook her head.
"There's nothing good about him. Stefan, not anymore. He's decided what he wants. He doesn't want to feel, he wants to be hated, it's just easier that way. He got his wish. I hate him."
Cherith says nothing, just stewing in her rage and embracing it as she felt cold all over, her heart filled only with fury and her magic singing out for blood. To wipe out the person who had caused her to grief so much.
Suddenly, Jeremy gasps out, finally waking and Cherith feels relief flooding her chest as she hugs him closer to her even as Stefan moves to check on him.
"He killed me. Damon killed me."
He gasps out and Elena sobs out with relief, even as Cherith suddenly let's go of her brother, standing up and turning away from them.
"It's okay Jere… you're gonna be okay."
Elena assured him, hugging him tightly.
Stefan then looks up at Cherith, the way her hair billowed in the wind suddenly picking up in the room, how the very air around her seemed to emanate with absolute rage and chaos.
"Cherith?"
He hesitantly called out to her, making Elena look at her sister, suddenly apprehensive as well.
"Cherry, he's fine now. Jeremy's fine."
Cherith's fists tightened, shaking as she felt her body light up with uncontrollable rage.
"The both of you… have condoned the things he's done for a long time. You've let him live freely without consequences for the actions he's taken. Not anymore."
"Cherith, it's the anger talking right now…"
Stefan slowly stood up, trying to move closer to her but she lit her hands, raising the right and an energy field covered the 3.
Without so much as looking at them she walked towards Elena's opened window and with such ease of a master, flies out the window and high up into the sky, her destination the Salvatore Boarding House as rage, chaos and madness battled within her for only one aim.
To kill.
Mystic Falls General.
Caroline lay on a bed peacefully sleeping when she suddenly wakes up and sees 'Elena' standing above her, a blank expression on her face and she frowns.
"Elena?"
"Hey Caroline."
She smirks playfully and Caroline looks around.
"What are you doing here? Isn't it a bit too late?"
"My name is Katherine. I was hoping you could give the Salvatore brothers a message for me."
"What are you talking about? What message?"
Caroline huffed out, confused and also wary and Katherine smirked.
"Game on."
"What—"
Katherine suddenly grabs one of Caroline's pillows and pushes it down over her face and smothering her.
Caroline screams and struggles with all of her strength to get the pillow off of her but it is futile as she takes her last breath and dies.
Katherine takes the pillow off and places it next to Caroline who looked like she was only peacefully sleeping. She smirks at her job well done before casually walking out of the room.
So this brings Season 2 to a start and lots of things about the Myth of the Scarlet Witch will be brought to light as well... as well as why she is so different from other witches and warlocks.
Poor Damon... he has no idea he has indeed woken a sleeping dragon... or a sleeping Nexus Being.
