A bit choppier than I wanted, but it doesn't contain much important info. Just needed to get it out. Only one chapter to go until I can get started on part 2 of the story :) Please comment if there are any mistakes, if you want anything added, or even if its just to say hi ^-^
Dearest Cousin
Please cease your contact with my daughter. I wish for you and her to not exchange letters anymore, or you will corrupt her beliefs with your beastly ideals. We may have once shared views, but that is no longer the case. Your mind has been since tainted by those you call your lovers.
From Bella
20th September
A week later, Lucian was sat in a plane, headed to Italy with his guard in tow and seated in first class. He gazed through the window, petting the fur of Sage absentmindedly whilst his mind wandered.
He was looking forward to seeing his mates again, but at the same time, the thought of telling them what he knew filled him with dread. He knew that he'd have to use his memories to convince them, which meant letting Aro into his mind. Something which he did not want. The only solution he could think of was to put a spell on his mind that hid away the majority of his memories, although he couldn't pick and choose which ones were locked away, so it wasn't exactly what he wanted.
It was his only option, though. He wasn't strong enough, mentally or magically, to hide the thoughts he wished. Lucian lamented on the fact that his training had taken a large hit in the past few months, what with his time instead being preoccupied with Bella and the Cullens.
He groaned, head falling back with a thunk. It gained him a look from the guard closest to him, Alois, but he ignored it in favour of Sage, who pushed up against his unmoving hand with persistence. Lucian smiled, tickling under her chin and relishing in the feeling of his magic being replenished slightly.
As soon as he arrived within Volterra, he was hurried towards the Kings' private suite, a place that he was familiar with from his previous stay in the castle. It was still as grand as ever, the hallways brighter than he'd thought they'd be, white and golden, with smidges of reds. The doors were as grand as the hallway, each made of a wood he couldn't name, engraved with scenes of life and death. Through one of these doors was their shared lounge, a place he had come to associate with comfortable evenings of reading books and listening to the ones they would share with him.
The Kings were stood in the room, looking as if they were barely refraining from smothering him where he stood, shooing his guards away before they could step into the room. As soon as the doors were shut, he was smothered. And he allowed it, for all of five seconds, before he was batting their wandering hands away.
" Leave it! I'm here to tell you something important!" They backed away, reluctantly and only barely, but it allowed him to breathe.
" What is it that you had to tell us so urgently, and in person at that? Not that I'm complaining, it's wonderful to have you here again, my darling." Aro simpered, edging closer towards him. Lucian allowed himself a few seconds to breathe deeply, gaining the courage to say what he had to as confidently as possible.
" Bella and Edward have conceived a child together. Her name is Renesmee." He raised his hand, halting the questions that the kings were no doubt about to fling his way. " Let me finish. The child is a half-vampire, but she appears mostly mortal if not for her extremely accelerated growth and small appetite for blood. I believe... that her existence does not go against your laws, and I hope that you will agree with me."
His mates stared at him in varying degrees of shock before Aro held out his hand with urgency in his eyes. " My dear, please. Allow me to confirm this with your thoughts so that our worries may be put to rest."
" You'll see everything. I don't want you to see everything." It sounded more petulant than he had wanted, gaining a small quirk of the lips from Aro.
" Yes. Even if I wish not to. I am capable, however, of diverting my attention to rest solely on what I am looking for, so I may not see all of your thoughts with clarity enough to understand them. Only a few key memories will stand out to me."
Lucian nibbled gently on his lip before bringing down most of the barriers surrounding his mind and joining hands with his mate. He trusted him and felt that he might as well know a little now so that the knowledge would be easier to absorb in the future. That is, if he ever wished to tell them of his reincarnation at all.
Lukas sighed in pleasure as he ran his hands through his hair, dampening it with the blood-
Lucian giggled to himself as he hid behind the desk in his father's office, a book on mythical creatures clutched in his small hands. His father had forbidden him from reading it, but Lucian didn't understand why. He already knew-
He grinned widely at the feeling, stabbing down once more, the screams echoing wonderfully-
She looked so tiny placed in his arms, but he knew that even as seconds passed, she was getting ever bigger, and soon he wouldn't be able to cradle her like this. He didn't want to let her go, or to let her grow-
Lucian hated the thought of leaving her, knowing that when he came back, she'd already be the size of a young child-
Lucian snatched his hand back with a gasp, cradling it to his chest. He attempted to smile, a small, wry thing. " Isn't she precious, Aro? Isn't my baby cousin just the sweetest baby you've ever seen?" Lucian's eyes widened hopefully, and his smile grew wider, an obvious attempt at diversion.
Aro stared at him with a perplexed look that morphed into one of curiosity and pleasure. "My, what intriguing thoughts you have, my beautiful mate. I never expected to find anything of that sort in your mind. You have surprised me."
Lucian gritted his teeth before smiling toothily. "It wouldn't be fun if I was predictable, would it? I've got to keep you on your toes. So, what do you plan to do with this information?"
" Aro, your thoughts?" Caius' voice broke them out of their staring competition, sounding curious as well as annoyed.
" It is true that little Renesmee is born of a human mother, Bella, and a vampire father, Edward. And it is also true that Bella has been turned into a vampire. I saw her in the background of one of Lucian's memories briefly."
" Then they have not committed the crime of creating an immortal child." Marcus' tone was one of finality as he nodded his head.
" Ah, but the child is still half-immortal, is she not? Surely she has the same urges as a vampire, perhaps diluted, but still enough that when mixed with her childish mind, her actions may have dire consequences."
" Then, the child is a liability." Lucian narrowed his eyes at Caius' words, watching as he paced the room.
" She will not cause trouble." They turned to look at him, and he smiled prettily. " I have foreseen a few things. Up until she is nearly 4 months old, there is never an instance when she causes any problems with humans. I have yet to witness her kill or bring harm to any human."
They looked pondering for a few moments before looking at one another. " We will go to the Cullens to see for ourselves, with a portion of our guard. We will not harm the child unless she is revealed to be a liability. You have my word, my dear." Lucian smiled at him. " Now, since we once more have you in our grasp, why don't we have a little fun?"
His smile dropped, eyes widening and breath stuttering to a stop. " Ah, well, you see, I would love to, but I'm unfortunately too young to partake. I don't want to disappoint." Aro looked at him in confusion before his mouth twisted into a devilish grin.
" My, darling, I didn't know you were so eager! I was actually pertaining to us wooing you with extravagant gifts and dates, but if you insist that we bed you-"
Lucian flushed a bright red, spluttering in the face of their matching smirks, before twisting on his heel. " I was not insisting. I will be in my bedroom!"
" Preparing-"
" Fuck. Off." He marched away, ignoring the childish giggles he could hear coming from his mates, hissing in embarrassment." Bastards."
25th September
He had been in Volterra for only 5 days now, and already, he felt trapped, even in a giant castle as big as the one the Volturi owned. His guard was ordered to tail him at all times, and there were even additions to it in the form of Renata and a male vampire he had never heard of before.
His mates- all three of those stupidly handsome arseholes- hovered around him at every chance they got, which was the majority of the time because, apparently, being the kings of the vampire world didn't mean they were drowned in paperwork and meetings.
And that incessant hovering was why he found himself hiding in a part of the castle he had yet to explore, the area looking vastly under decorated compared to the bedazzled halls the kings roamed in. That wasn't to say that it looked shabby- no, it was far from it. The carpets looked as if they had been ripped out of a royal castle, a deep plum colour that matched the stone walls surprisingly well. It was patterned exquisitely and looked so old and dainty that he barely dared to tread on what he could assume was pure gold stitching.
Who stitched with gold!
Lucian was so engrossed in his observations that he didn't notice the being behind him until they spoke, startling him into yelping.
" Hello! Who may you be?"
" What!" The woman, who looked startlingly like a female version of Aro, giggled daintily behind the fan in her hand, observing him with fascination.
" You smell like my brother." She grinned, taking a step closer. " What's your name? I'm Didyme, Aro's sister. You must be his mate. He wouldn't allow anyone else to smell so strongly of him."
He let himself be circled, smiling at the woman- wasn't Didyme supposed to be dead?- as he felt happiness fill him. It felt fake, but he allowed it to settle, seeing nothing dangerous with the situation. " Lucian. I'm mated to the Kings."
" Yes, yes, I can smell them on you now as well. How aggressive, Caius~." She laughed once more, reaching out to grab his wrist. " I can't believe they haven't introduced you to us yet! How mean~. They're so mean to their sister. I'll just have to do it myself, right, Luce? Let's go meet Athena and Sully, hm?"
He had no choice but to be dragged along by the happiness-inducing vampire, feeling slightly woozy with all of the attention being lathered upon him.
1st November
" I'm not staying for any longer, Caius." He snapped over his shoulder as he walked down the hallway, suitcase in tow.
" There is no need for you to hang around them anymore, my darling. It would be better if you stay here, with us. You can go see them when we do." His mate was wheedling with him again, voice pitched higher to try and convince him. He had done so many times over the past week since he realised that Lucian was not going to be staying in the castle for the foreseeable future, and was instead heading back to Forks after his business had been dealt with.
" I have all of eternity to stay with you in this castle, there's no point in me getting bored of it before I'm even turned into a vampire. It might convince me to leave it prematurely." It was said teasingly, but his mate was not in the right state to receive such jokes.
A snarl sounded behind him before he was suddenly crowded up against the wall. " You are not leaving me!"
Lucian glared up at him with slightly glowing eyes." Get off of me, Caius." His mate stared at him with deep, red eyes before huffing and pulling away ever so slightly.
" I don't want you to leave." Caius' voice was softer, his face turned to the side so that he didn't have to look into Lucian's disappointed eyes any longer.
Lucian sighed, raising a hand to cup the side of his face. " It is not for an indefinite time. You will be arriving in Forks in less than two-months time. Two months, and I'll be back here again. Surely you can wait for a mere two months?"
Caius nuzzled into his palm sweetly and kissed it gently before he raised his eyes to meet Lucian's own. " Those mere two months will feel like an eternity to me, my darling. Without you, time seems to move slower." He sighed and pulled him closer, being careful not to tug too hard. " I apologise for my actions."
Lucian hummed, leaning upwards to give him a gentle peck. " And I accept. Now, I've got to go, or I'll miss my flight. Take care, Caius. And remember to do as I said."
25th November- 18th Birthday
It immensely surprised him to see almost his whole room covered in presents when he walked in, wrapped in red wrapping paper and tied with golden bows. He stepped gingerly into the mound, picking up the first one his hands touched. Lucian checked the name tag.
For: Lucian Swan
From: Marcus, Caius, Aro
" Are these... all for me?" He blinked up at Mykola, who looked unruffled at the unexpected sight.
" Of course, master. The kings had them sent here from Italy for your birthday. Every one of them is a gift from the to you." Mykola's reply was curt but respectful, and he stared at the piles and piles of presents in awe.
Seating himself upon his bed, he gently began to unwrap the one he held. It was box-shaped and made no clattering noise when he'd gently shook it, so he was surprised by what tumbled out.
It was a pendant, not unlike those he saw around the necks of all the other Volturi members, but instead of a ruby, placed in the centre was a gleaming emerald, one that matched the shade of his eyes perfectly.
He felt his heart swell, eyes flashing that luminous green as he eagerly took in the sight of it sparking, drawing him in. Lucian breathed deeply, consciously having to contain himself from stashing the treasure away, feeling disoriented at his own reaction.
He placed it over his neck and moved on to the next gift, hoping that the creature inside of him didn't have anything to say about it.
23rd December
The Cullens, as had become ritual in the past few weeks, were sat in their living room when it happened, staring down at the youngest member of their coven with adoration. Renesmee was growing fast, already appearing and acting like a little girl of around seven. It elated them to watch her grow but also terrified them, what-ifs constantly circling every member's minds as she developed at an unnatural speed, although it had begun to slow considerably since her toddler days passed.
Every member's attention, however, was captured when Alice froze, eyes going hazy as she was pulled violently into a vision, mouth agape in growing horror.
" They're coming. The Volturi."
All heads whipped to the side to see Lucian sitting in his seat calmly, watching them without worry. He smiled at them genially and took another gulp out of the cup in his hands.
