Standard Disclaimer: I don't own anything in regards to Harry Potter or My Hero Academia. All properties therein are those of their creators. I am just a writer attempting to increase my skill with characters and worlds that I love.
Note: I've had people saying that I'm going too fast with character relationships in my stories. Especially with the harems. To that I would say… All Harem Anime! I'm trying to add a little something with the characters as I go, but I'm far from the first to just let relationships happen cause I like the pairings.
Note: In terms of reviews, please stop with the hate. I don't need to hear how I've ruined one of my stories for you, or how much you hate characters or ships. It is depressing and makes me not want to write. Now, if you have corrections for things I've missed, I'm happy to hear it. If you have 'constructive' criticism, then awesome, bring it on. And if you have just have general comments or opinions then I love to see those too. All I'm asking as an audience is respectful discourse. That is all.
Note: I'm putting the hero name selection earlier, because I always thought it was strange they'd choose their hero names after being seen by billions of people in the Sports Festival instead of before.
Part Five - The Sports Festival - Part One
"Alright idiots, shut up." Aizawa proclaimed from the front of the class. As he shuffled papers around he gazed at his students. Harry was at the front with his girlfriend Momo. Mina was seated behind them both, with dreamy eyes as she stared at the black haired youth that had saved her life at the USJ.
Todoroki was alternating his stare between the same boy and himself. As was Bakugo. The rest of the students were either watching him, or in the case of Denki, nodding off.
"Alright. Now, before we begin classes for the day, I have three pieces of news. First, the UA Sports Festival is coming up."
At his words, the class erupted into excited murmuring and general disorder as the students discussed the implications of the event. Many of them having just realized they would actually be in it instead of watching from home.
"I thought I said to shut up." At his words, the noise levels immediately ceased, bringing his homeroom back to blessed silence. "As many of you know, the recent villain attack has caused public outcry's against our school's safety policies. As a precaution we've tripled the camera coverage of the facility, doubled the security on site, and increased the natural barriers for infiltration. This year, the Sports Festival is going to serve the dual purpose of reassuring the public of our students safety, and showing off your skills to potential sponsors and mentors."
"That's right," Izuku muttered, just loud enough to be heard form Harry's right. "the Sports Festival is how most major Hero Companies find their recruits."
Aizawa gave the boy a dead eyed glare. "Are you giving the announcements now Midoriya?"
The boy clammed up at the direct attention, and the teacher continued.
"This event is a huge opportunity for the students of UA, so take it seriously. There's going to be sponsors, hero scouts, and students after your seats, all watching your every move."
Mina raised her hand at that, shaking slightly as her scary teacher twitched an eyebrow at being interrupted once more. Nevertheless he nodded, letting her know she could talk.
"Uh, sir? What do you mean by that last one?"
"It's an open secret that if a student from another section of our school, such as accounting, support, or engineering, shows a higher aptitude for hero work than someone already in the hero course, then they can be assigned that seat. Essentially, if they perform better than you, they have the chance to take your spot."
There was a lot of nervous muttering at that, but it wasn't enough to get on the teacher's nerves like last time. He let it go on for a bit before continuing.
"Since quirks aren't allowed in the olympic games, this is one of the only events in the world that people can watch superhuman beings go all out. As such, we typically see records of billions of viewers every year. Your faces are about to be known to the world." He coughed into his hand and checked the time on the clock above his door.
"That leads us to our second announcement. Before the event is televised, it is recommended that you choose a hero name to be broadcast with your actual name. That way, when you enter the hero workforce, you benefit from instant recognition."
The door under the clock opened, and the scantily clad hero, Midnight, entered. Swishing her whip against her leg as she came to stand beside Aizawa. "Ms. Midnight is here to document the names you choose, and help workshop them should they need work." He bowed to his coworker and left the room without another word. If he hurried, he could get a good hour nap in the teacher's lounge.
"Now," Midnight purred as her eyes perused the students before her, stopping on Harry long enough to get a snarl out of Momo and Mina. "Let me hear your ideas.
There were the usual suspects of Pinky, Uravity, Invisible Girl, and red Riot. Followed by the ones that only used their regular names, like Shoto. Bakugo had to change his amalgamation of 'King Death, and Murder Death God' eight times before the teacher finally told him to just use his own name like Todoroki.
Before Izuku could give his answer as 'Deku', Harry took his arm and began a whispered conversation in his ear. "Izuku, You're the closest friend I've been able to make in years. I trust you, I've trained with you, and I know you think turning Bakugo's taunt around as a hero name is a good idea, but think about it. Really think. If your goal is to inspire hope and safety, then what is the point of calling yourself 'Useless'?"
Midoriya thought about it for a moment before nodding his head and addressing Midnight. "I'll be the Hopeful Hero, Cheshire. Because I'll always have a smile on my face."
The mature ranked hero smiled at the earnestness in the boy's features. She couldn't help but think that All Might had a point when he said that kid was going to be something big.
Momo was next. "I'm going to be the Creative Hero, Merlin. Because I create things like magic."
"I like it." Her eyes turned to her 'favorite' student as the whip swished her legs once more. "What about you Harry, dear? What's your name going to be." Her voice turned into a seductive purr at the end, once more causing Momo and Mina's hackles to rise.
Harry however, was used to the woman's antics. She'd been like this ever since he'd started working out. "I'll be the Prideful Hero, Escanor."
"Wonderful choice." Her eyes perused his form for a moment or two, before adding his name to the entry in her binder. "Now that I have your names, they'll appear next to your photos during the broadcast. You have three weeks to prepare for the events. Train well students."
The teacher's departure seemed to serve as a signal, and the class once more erupted into the chaos of speculation and argument. Harry however, held Momo, Mina, and Izuku back from it. "Guys, I think we should train together."
Mina eyes shot open at that. "What? I mean, I understand Momo and Izuku. She's your girlfriend, and he's your best friend. But why me?"
"Because you're my friend too, Mina. You have a great personality and an awesome quirk. I think you have what it takes to go far in this festival and I want to help you do it."
It shouldn't have been possible, but the pink girl's cheeks turned pinker at the praise. "Alright, thanks Harry. So when do we start?"
"As soon as school gets out today. We can meet up at the gym and-"
Before he could finish his statement the door slid open again, and a red eyed Aizawa stumbled inside.
"Curse that woman's effectiveness." He mumbled as he finally reached his chair. "That nap wasn't even twenty minutes." When he finally woke himself up, after adding some eye drops, he addressed his students once more.
"Now that you've picked your names, it's time for the last piece of news. A new student transferred to UA and has been placed in this class after passing a makeup exam."
At his words the door once more slid open, this time admitting a tall girl with bushy brown hair and brown eyes. She walked with a slight limp in her left leg, and bowed politely to her classmates.
"My name is Hermione Granger. It is a pleasure to meet you all."
As the class gawked at the new girl with the British accent, Harry started steaming… literally. White smoke began to rise from his shoulders as he glared at the girl before him. That accent brought back bad memories. Luckily Momo saw him 'steaming' and placed a delicate hand on his arm, supporting him through his anger. Slowly, it began to diminish.
Ignoring the reaction of his best student, Aizawa pointed to an empty desk and addressed the boy's girlfriend. "Momo Yaoyorozu. As the class representative I'm making this girl your responsibility. There isn't a lot of time before the Sports Festival starts, so get her as ready as you can."
As the new girl took up her seat, and started up a conversation with the smartest girl in the class, Harry pointedly ignored her. Focusing instead on the lessons of Eraserhead, until the bell rang for the end of the day.
Then he led his group, with Hermione trailing behind, to the school gym. It was one of the few places they were allowed to use their quirks openly. Kirishima was already there beating up a wing chun dummy with hardened forearms. Bakugo was flying around the rafters with miniature explosions, and Tenya was running laps around the track so fast his body was a blur.
"So Harry," Mina slid up to his side and wrapped a hand around his bicep, "What's the plan?"
"Well, we don't know what the challenges at the festival are going to be. They could be anything from a knockdown melee to a super powered basketball match. And before you ask, yes that last one has indeed happened. So I think we need to start with pitting our quirks against each other, and then move on to team maneuvers in case we have the chance to work together."
"That sounds lovely." Momo said as she took his other arm. The look she gave Mina was, for once, not angry. Instead she appeared almost calculating. "But perhaps we should start with learning what Hermione's quirk is. We need to train her as well."
"You're right, Momo." For the first time that day, Harry forced himself himself to actually look at Hermione. He noticed the same things as before, like the hair and eyes, but now he saw the freckles along her cheeks, the nervous tick of her eyebrow, and the slight bulge of her oversized teeth as she smiled. His eyes zeroed in on the way she held herself. Her limp must be quite painful if she even rested with all her weight on her right foot.
"Before I ask about your quirk, what happened to your leg?"
The girl was definitely nervous, but still seemed happy to be addressed by her peers. "It's an injury I received at my last school. A wild bear got onto the grounds and stumbled onto me. It battered my leg pretty good before my quirk manifested and saved me. That's actually why I came here. The education offered at this institution is much better than my last one."
"I'm sorry that happened to you." The boy forced a smile onto his face and held out his hand. "I'm Harry by the way. Harry Yamada. I know you were introduced to the class, but I never got to reciprocate."
"And I'm Mina Ashida." The excitable pink girl exclaimed as she placed her hand beside his.
"Izuku Midoriya."
"You already know me." Momo did the same.
Not really knowing who to acknowledge first, Hermione just reached out with both hands and smushed the limbs together, shaking them all at once.
"Now that that bit of awkwardness is done, what is your quirk?" Harry asked.
Instead of speaking, the bushy haired girl just winked at them, and disappeared. A moment later he felt a tap on his shoulder, and turned to see the girl, leaning heavily on Mina, and smiling through gasps of air.
"You can teleport?" The boy asked.
"Not," she gasped, "exactly." after a few more moments of deep breathing, the English girl seemed to have gotten herself under control again. "I can stop time for as long as I hold my breath."
The other's stared.
And stared.
And stared.
Finally, Hermione snapped her fingers in their faces, jarring them free from their stupors.
"Do you have any idea how overpowered that is?" Midoriya squeaked.
The bushy haired bookworm blushed. "It's really not. I can't hold my breath for that long, and when my quirk is active it's even harder to do. Picture holding your breath right now, and twenty feet underwater. Imagine that pressure difference on your lungs capacity to hold oxygen. That is what it's like for me to use my power. I'm also not any stronger than a regular person."
As the girl finished her explanation, Harry nodded. "Then the first thing we need to work on with you is cardio, lung capacity, and physical ability." A dark glint alit in his eyes, "Lucky for you, I know my way around a gym."
No one else in the group could explain why, but it felt like the angel of death was breathing down their shoulders at those words.
Three Weeks Later
"Ladies and gentlemen!" Present Mic's voice rang out over the speakers of the stadium. "Are you ready for a show!"
The packed stands roared the approval of the audience as hands flew up, and cheers rang out.
"Well you're gonna get it!" Mic sang. "Just think, you'll see explosions, violence, spectacles, and best of all, my son kicking ass!"
At that point the tired and sarcastic voice of Aizawa cut in on the speakers, "Hizashi, at least try to be impartial."
"I can't help it, YEAH!" He screeched. "My boy makes me so proud!"
"Right, well, welcome everyone to UA Sports Festival. Today our students are going to lay everything on the field for your enjoyment. First off, we have the students that survived the villain attack on the USJ, class 1A."
Regardless of the sleepy man's mediocre introduction, the crowd still went wild as the students made their way onto the field. Each was dressed in their gym uniforms and waving to their audience as they reached the center pitch.
Among them was the group of Harry, Momo, Mina, Izuku, and Hermione. All were confident and prepared for the trials ahead of them.
As more classes and students made their way out, they went over their training, tactics, and potential strategies for whatever events could be coming.
Their chatter was cut down however as the measured tones of Aizawa came over the speakers once more. "Now that everyone in the first year is gathered, I'd like to welcome the student who scored the highest in the written and practical portions of the entrance exam to give an opening statement. Please put your hands together for Harry Yamada, the future hero, Escanor."
Once more, regardless of the man's near depressed tone of voice, the audience reaction was still full of hype as a microphone rose out of the ground in the center of the field. Harry quickly jogged up to it as he thought about the words he'd like to say.
With a brief clearing of his thoughts, the boy began his speech. "I'm honored to stand alongside such a group of like minded students today. Each of us shares the grand dream of working to create a better tomorrow, and it starts by showing everyone here what we can do." His mouth grew a confident smirk as he finished his spiel. "By the end, I'll have won this tournament, but my classmates will have also given a great show of challenging me. They, like myself, are willing to go PLUS ULTRA!"
At his last phrase the stadium again erupted as he made his way back to his classmates. Most of them were giving him the side-eye after his finish, but Bakugo was literally sparking with rage.
Before anyone could call him on his cockiness, one of the walls crashed to the ground, revealing a dirt paved path into the distance.
"Alright!" Hizashi screamed over the airwaves, "First up, we have a good old fashioned foot race! And by good old fashioned, I mean a track completely covered in traps and obstacles. How are our intrepid young heroes in training going to handle this adversity?! You'll find out in three, two, one!"
Those students that had been prepared for a surprise start took off running, gaining a healthy lead, while those that had been expecting further instructions hurried to catch up.
At the head of the pack was Harry, soaring over huge swaths of ground with lunging leaps. Hermione, who was the least mobile of their group, was clutched to his back with her arms around his neck. He was followed by Todoroki, gliding on his ice, Izuku, who was launching off the ground and walls in a blur, and Bakugo, who flying through the air with explosions. Momo had created a Ducati motorcycle, and Mina was gliding on a trail of acid that simultaneously shot her forward, and hindered those behind her.
On and on they went, until an army of robots from the entrance exam rose up to stop them. Harry jumped over them, trusting his friends to get through. Next was the mine field, and he crossed that the same way. Except before moving on, he asked Hermione to halt time. As long as she was touching his skin with her hand, he was also immune to her quirk, so when everything around them halted, he ran over, dug up two mines, placed them in front of Bakugo and Todoroki, and continued on his merry way. When time started once more, and two pained cries were heard, he could only smile.
The chasm at the end of the run posed a slight issue, as it was farther than Harry could leap in a single bound, but he got around that with able use of his pyrokineses. On the last possible step of solid ground, the young hero activated his flames with concussive force in his foot, sending him soaring high. He then followed this with a similar move at the top of his arc, sending both himself and his passenger soaring horizontally through the air over the distance of the last stone hallway and across the finish line.
"We have our first champions folks!" Present Mic boomed. "No surprise to me, but first place goes to my son, Harry Yamada!" This time, his usually ecstatic voice was also filled with a pride that made Harry's chest swell.
A thumping sound was heard in the speakers and Aizawa was back on the microphone. "Seeing as Present Mic couldn't be trusted to remain impartial, he has been subjected to an involuntary nap. Now, to continue, second place goes to Ms. Hermione Granger."
A slicking sound was the only warning Harry had before a pink ball of laughter and energy crashed into his chest, knocking him onto the ground. The boy looked up and he saw Mina, hugging him around the chest and smiling broadly."
"Third place goes to Mina Ashido."
A roar of a specialized engine, and the screech of rubber on cement signaled the arrival of the fourth finalist.
"Fourth place, Momo Yaoyorozu."
Harry tilted his head up and was rewarded with the sight of his girlfriend approaching him, while taking off her helmet in the classic pose that sent her hair flying in the wind. God she knew how to turn him on. Her motorcycle stood behind her, with what appeared to be turbines attached to the back. She must have added them for the chasm.
As the soot covered and stumbling pair of Todoroki and Bakugo entered the arena, Momo reached her friends. "Ah… Mina, why are you hugging Harry like that?"
In answer, the pink girl stuck her tongue out at the taller girl. "We had a deal Momo. I beat you at the first challenge."
The studious girl nodded as a slight blush attained color on her cheeks. "Yes, fair is fair I suppose."
Harry was starting to get nervous at the discussion he was hearing. What kind of deal could these girls have struck? Sure they'd been getting along rather well over their three weeks of training, but he'd honestly expected an explosion at how familiar Mina was being with him.
His questions were answered as the pink skinned girl leaned up, and planted her lips on his. The contact was short, but incredibly sweet and tender. As she pulled away, it was to the sight of Harry's wide eyes, and stuck open jaw. She giggled and closed it for him before getting up, and taking Momo's hand.
"Relax Harry, Momo and I have been talking about this for a while. The bet was really just an excuse for when, during or after this tournament, I got to make my move."
"R-R-Really, w-well that's-" Harry was about to start stammering something crazy, but then he flashed back to that day so many years ago in the hospital with his father. The day he decided exactly what kind of man he wanted to be. A nervous wreck was not it. So instead of falling to pieces at his own shock, he squared his shoulders, stood, and confidently wrapped both the girls in his big arms.
"I am attracted to you Mina. I won't lie and say I'm not." He looked at his girlfriend. "But I won't dishonor Momo by starting something if she says she's not okay with it."
In turn, the black haired girl placed a hand on his cheek and nodded. Letting him know everything he needed to without words.
He turned to Mina and smiled warmly at her beaming face. "Looks like we're doing this."
The three teenagers were startled rather abruptly from their tender moment by the exuberant tones of a proud father. "Romance on the field, Yeah!" Present Mic screeched. "My boy's making his way with two girls at once! Take that Aizawa, no kid you'll ever have will ever be this great!"
A second thud was heard in as many minutes as the underground hero was heard saying, "That's the second involuntary nap. You should be careful about those Yamada. I've heard too many can cause concussions."
As the announcer's had been having their violent moment, everyone else had been running, jogging, and in some cases limping, into the arena once more. Many showed signs of violence and soot, but no one showed evidence of any crippling injuries.
The students were allowed to meander for several minutes as the scores were placed. Many were disappointed, a few were jumping for joy, and one was staring at the winning group with pure hatred and loathing.
Finally, a fresh horn sounded and Midnight rose into the air on a circular podium, her trusty whip raised above her head. As she sashayed her hips back and forth for her audience, she began to announce the second stage of the event.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare yourselves for the second task of the UA Sports Festival. For this challenge, our students are going to be teaming up in groups of four to participate in a cavalry battle! Each team will have a student with possession of a headband displaying their point value. The goal of the other teams is to acquire as many of those headbands as possible. When the timer runs out, the team with the highest score will win."
A sadistic smirk reached her lips as she gazed down on Harry's group. "Just to keep things interesting, the winner of the last event is worth ten million points!"
As the crowd gasped at the perceived unfairness, Harry smiled. His value was so high, that as long as he could keep away from the other teams he was guaranteed to win. He had a plan.
Fifteen minutes later the teams were set. Harry was the muscle at the front, Mina was the speed at the rear, Momo was their defense, and Hermione was on their backs wearing the headband.
Izuku had decided he wanted to test his might with a team of his own, without relying solely on his best friend to get him through. Harry could respect that. At the sound of the buzzer the teams were off. Bakugo's group took after Izuku's team right away, but the rest were coming straight for the black haired behemoth.
Harry's eyes glinted at the sight, he always loved a challenge. "Mina, slick the ground beneath our feet to eliminate friction, Momo, I want shielding over Hermione's head to protect the headband, and Hermione, hold on. This is gonna get rough."
A quick glance to the sky showed him it was about ten AM. He wasn't at the peak of his strength yet, but he was still strong enough for this.
His hands slammed on the ground like cannon balls, and fire shot out in a wide circle around them, climbing high enough to block most of the invading force. "Walls of Jericho." He spoke.
'Any time now' he thought as his eyes scanned the makeshift defense he'd erected. 'there!' The circle of flames was disrupted momentarily as Todoroki's team sliced through. The half cold half hot boy followed his entrance up by freezing the entire circular defense in an instant. 'Well at least I won't need to expend any energy to maintain it.' Harry thought as he prepared to kick off.
"Ah, Harry," Momo began, "aren't we kind of trapped now?"
"That's the point, Momo. I lured literally the only team that can walk through fire to us. Now we know exactly where they are and they can't surprise us later. That means all we need to do is stay away from them until the timer runs out. This ice wall should keep the others away as well."
Without another word, Harry took off. Mina had taken to her task well, and her acid slick meant the only force moving them was Harry's own. Momo had created two circular Spartan shields, and they were currently covering Hermione's vulnerable head.
Round and round in circles they went, dodging blasts of ice, jumping over fresh obstacles, and avoiding blasts of electricity. The biggest hurdle was the addition of Tenya Lida. His speed was easily a match for Harry's own, so the two ended up in something of a creative footrace. Each trying to find the best way to outmaneuver, if not outrun each other.
The ice wall did its job better than its fire predecessor ever could. Several feet of ice proved impossible for the majority of students to chip through, and with other marauding teams taking up their attention, they were more focused on their own headband collections.
Finally they came down to the last five minutes of the event, and Harry had a plan for getting rid of his competition for good.
"Hermione, when I say now, freeze time. Make sure sure that you're touching all of us. Mina, Momo, at the same time I want you to jump in the air. Understood?" At their affirmations, he suddenly changed directions and ran right at his opponents. The gambit paid off as Tenya, not expecting an assault, temporarily froze. Just long enough for the bodybuilding teen to get in the proper range. "Now!"
All at once the world went silent, light seemed to dim, and a feeling of pressure came over his ears as if he were underwater. No matter how many times he trained with Hermione, he never got used to this experience. He often wondered how she could.
Knowing the limitations of his teammates lungs, the boy wasted no time running up to Todoroki and ripping the band from his head. He ran twenty paces away, and the bushy haired girl's breath ran out just as he was throwing it over the side of the ice wall. Giving his opponents just enough time to see him do it.
For their part, Todoroki's team didn't waste any time. As soon as they saw their need for immediate points they took off back through the wall. Probably figuring that snatching points off their fellow students for the last few minutes was bound to be more effective than wasting their time and gaining nothing from further chasing a group that had managed to evade them for twenty minutes already.
Things went pretty well from there. The two toned boy got enough points to proceed, and Harry kept his own people away from the hole that guy had left in the wall. When the buzzer rang out he walked up to the ice mass, reared back, and with a single punch crumbled the barrier into minuscule chunks. As the other students stared at the devastation, he made his way up to the dais where the scores were being read. Once more, his team was at the top.
"Looks like the winner of the last round held on to his lead! Who could have seen that coming!" Midnight rejoiced, earning a fresh cheer from the spectators.
All around them, the arena floor started to change. Its cement basis raised and elongated into a large rectangle with the speaker's podium moved to the other end at the middle.
Midnight snapped her whip to gain the audience's attention once more and said, "The final challenge for the first years is going to be one on one combat. The highest scoring students will fight until submission, knockout, or disqualification for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!"
As the audience had a moment of awe at the implications, Harry wrapped his arms around the waists of Mina and Momo before he led them off to the side where the entrance to the stands was located.
"Come on." He said, "If I read the pairings right, we each have a few rounds before we need to fight, and I want some cuddling time."
His girls nodded happily, with light blushes adorning their cheeks as they sat on either side of him, with their heads leaned against his chest. The giant image of the jumbotron zoomed in on their moment, but a quick wave of his hand and the camera crews got the message, moving off to cover something else.
Luckily there was a lot to see, as the first match was about to begin.
