At the Cecil

Chloe watched in silence as the EMTs loaded the comatose man into the back of the ambulance. She had called for a "bus" as the police termed it after Lucifer's message to her, wondering what her unpredictable partner had done now. "This is going to take some explaining" she muttered as she marched back up to the two miscreants who had called her. "So who was that we just sent to the ER?"

Lucifer smile brightly. "No one important. But Detective, we have something very special for you!" he crowed, waving what looked like a cracked piece of plastic in her face. "You'll never guess where we found it."

Amenadiel sighed. "We found it in your first murder victim's room and we think that Jonah was sent to plant it for someone to find."

"Jonah?" Dan asked, sliding up beside the taller angel.

"The unfortunate soul that was just taken away…" Amenadiel began.

"That idiot drug-addled wanker that we called you about" Lucifer replied, crowding out his brother's more empathic response. "I suspect you would have gotten an "anonymous" call at some point and found that wastrel's body and the flash drive and been sent along your merry way to the next part of this adventure."

"By that time" Amenadiel said quietly "the poor man would have been dead. Which I suspect had been the plan had we not showed up unannounced."

"Okay – I have to ask" Dan interjected quickly. "Was that a priest's collar the dude was wearing? I mean, the Church has had a lot of bad PR here in the last few years but I haven't heard anything about priests becoming homeless junkies." He glanced over at the uniformed officers gathered around the entrance to the hotel, trying to direct the foot traffic gathering at the sight of the police cruisers.

"Oh really Daniel" Lucifer replied dismissively. "He probably scrounged up from the trash somewhere and in his addled mind thought it went with the rest of his outfit."

"Or he got it from a priest" Chloe mused, trying to decide how annoyed she really was with both Lucifer and Amenadiel. They had broken into a still active crime scene, possibly contaminating evidence and who knows what they had done to the junkie they had found there. Or more precisely what Lucifer had done. Amenadiel wasn't the type (as far as she knew) to scare someone into a coma – even if he was an angel. "I'm going to have to question you both about what happened up there, you know that right? Anyone have anything they want to say now about this situation?"

"Mr. Bradley's nephew was studying to be a priest" Lucifer looked back his brother with a grim smile, ignoring the detective's question. "Maybe that's who let our little addict into the room."

"One – how did Bradley's nephew or anyone get a key to the room" Chloe replied, annoyed. "For that matter, how did you get one?"

"Sweet talked one of the maids into giving me her pass key in exchange for a favor to be named later."

Chloe closed her eyes and mentally started to count to ten. "'I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that. Two – whoever this other person is, is he the one who is leaving bread crumbs for us and why. If he or she knows something why not just come right out and tell us? Why stage an elaborate came of Clue just to pass on random bits of information?"

Amenadiel shrugged and turned to Dan. "If I understand this correctly, most of what has turned up has been circumstantial – right? You can make assumptions from the evidence but nothing to prove your case."

Dan nodded, thankful that at least Lucifer's brother had a practical mind. "All those photos sent to Chloe and left for Lucifer showed assorted scenes from the lives of some of our possible suspects. Might make a good case for motive – but whose motive? All the photos we received related to Annalise not our first victim. But we know that they were connected but their podcast about the Cecil. And then there is Bradley's nephew Gabe – what was his issue with them? That one image we have of them quarreling in the diner makes it look like he had a problem with one or both of them."

"Don't forget Mr. Bradley. Remember the photo from the garden party? One does not put their arm around the help unless you were very, very friendly with them. Which makes me wonder just how much Mrs. Bradley knew about the girl" Lucifer mused. "I also wonder what "messes" our Mr. McIntyre got into that his lovely wife had to clean up. Remember her saying that when we found her in her husband's office?"

Chloe frowned, staring at the cracked drive in Lucifer's hand. "Yes – I remember. There is something still bothering me from all this mound of hints and clues - something I can't quite pull up. We never did find out how McIntyre's wife knew he was dead before we were able to make the notification to her. And Bradley acted like he'd never met Candice McIntyre before – but we were lead to believe that Mrs. McIntyre and Mrs. Bradley knew each other through their alumni connections."

Dan shrugged. "Just because his wife knew her doesn't mean he did. When we were married how many of your old school friends did I get to meet?"

Lucifer handed the cracked drive to Chloe with a smile. "Maybe we should see what this little item might tell us? Someone went to a lot of trouble to make sure it was found."

Amenadiel stared down the street in the direction the ambulance had taken. "Will you have guards on Jonah? Just in case?"

"He overdosed on something … maybe" Dan agreed slowly. "Or maybe someone slipped him something designed to take him down and make it look like his addiction had killed him. I'll arrange to put someone on his door when he gets to the hospital."

"I think I'll go there as well" Amenadiel replied. "Just in case he wakes up and feels like talking about his helpful friend."

"Dan, you had better join him." Chloe looked at the drive in her hand with a frown. "In case he does wake up and say something we need to take action on."

Dan nodded and patted the angel on the arm. "Come on – I'll give you a lift."

"Works for me." He waved a hand and let Dan lead the way to the car, towering over his friend as they walked.

"Lucifer, you're with me. Let's see if Ella can find anything on this drive to explain why someone went to all this trouble to get it to us."

Lucifer nodded, peering down the street at the figure of his sibling disappearing into Dan's car. "By all means, Detective. Lead the way."
