Chapter 23

I opened the door to my house as quietly as possible, peeking in before sighing in relief that no one was there. I had come up with an excuse for mom, she would take it no doubt, but if dad came back yesterday, I would be in a lot of trouble.

Like, who could imagine a police dad's daughter disappearing after 5 pm without telling them to hang out at her friend's house?

Yet dad hadn't come home in weeks.

My eyes flickered to the shoes laid out in front of our entrance and noted any signs of Soichiro's shoes. Good, he hadn't come home yet. I sighed again for the third time, creeping into the kitchen before barely containing my shriek.

"Light! What the fuck?!" I screamed in a whisper across the kitchen when I saw him sipping his cup of coffee while leaning against the countertop. His eyes flickered to mine so calmly that it was scary.

"Where were you yesterday?"

"I thought mom told you?" I patted my chest to calm it down before inhaling slowly a few times. "I was at my friend's house."

"Little girly you look different," Ryuk morphed out from the wall afterwards flying towards me and circled around my body a few times before chuckling in front of my face. When I refused to answer him, he whined a bit before squeezing out a knowingly sound.

"Don't worry, all cameras were removed two days ago!"

I closed my eyes before breathing in irritation at the late news.

"We had a makeover party yesterday," I stated bluntly.

"Is that so?" Light took his gaze off of mine before placing his cup quietly onto the countertop. We had an intense stare off match before he slowly walked to me and twitched his nose.

"You reek of perfume."

"We had a perfume disaster," I calmly batted his question off. He raised his eyebrow skeptically.

"Open your bag," his voice came out as a command and my eye twitched.

"It's just books, you would be disappointed." My lips formed into a tight smile under his unwavering gaze.

"Do I have to force you?" His tone was dead serious before I twitched my eye again, this time purposefully before unzipping my bag to reveal the outfit I had stuffed into it.

I heard Ryuk snicker after my big reveal, watching with amusement with his flashing teeth.

"It seems like you had quite an enjoyable time yesterday." His voice hardened to the point where it made me shiver. I was beginning to think I should have made a dash for it.

"I did," my eyes shot back to him challengingly. "But I don't understand why you care so much."

His expression hardened completely before raising his thumb to brush over my lips, showing me my leftover lipstick. It smudged so beautifully on his pale finger that it entranced me, making my body flush at the image of his exposed chest covered with my lipstick.

I inhaled sharply.

Light noticed the change in my gaze but made no sound to stop it. I bit my lip before I rasped out.

"Should I show you?" My voice became so silky that his body flinched from hearing it.

"Do you want to know?" I stepped closer to him before tip-toeing and placing my hands on his broad chest. Fire seeped into his brown eyes as he watched my actions like a hawk.

Capture him. Make him want you...lower his guard…

Smiling seductively, I leaned closer to his lips and halted just before we touched.

"Too bad I didn't kiss any of those guys there," I whispered darkly before capturing his mouth with mine. Light moved automatically against my body, lifting me up with his arms and carrying me to the sofa without breaking apart. I gasped as he threw me onto the cushions before lunging at me again, rendering me completely breathless.

Heat flushed onto my cheeks as his lips moved in patterns, challenging me and teasing me all at once. I ran my fingers through his hair as my heart leaped from my breasts, hammering against his pounding heart.

Was he also feeling the spark?

The desire?

My lust?

"Light," I gasped as my back arched closer into his, pulling him down with my weight.

There was an angry growl at the end of his throat before I felt his fingers trail up my stomach and dive under my clothes. I moaned a sound of satisfaction as my hands trembled to the end of his clothes, begging him to let me feel him. I felt his body shift above me, yanking my grip away from his clothes. Opening my eyes to meet his half-opened ones, they smirked at me as I felt his lips twitch at our eye contact. Irritated by his smugness, my leg slid up teasingly, grinding directly on his hardened lower half as he shuddered against my touch.

Shivers of pleasure ran up my body from his reaction before he lifted my clothes off my head, rendering me half naked and panting underneath him.

Hold up-

Without letting me protest, he deepened the kiss, almost sending me into a frenzy of pleasure.

"Light, stop-" I echoed out amidst my pants, digging my nails into his shoulder as he sucked on my smooth, pale skin.

"Stop-"

I jerked at his tongue on my stomach, feeling a strange and quaking heat in between my legs. My mind blanked out as I heard his silky groan twisting into my ear, sparking me alive as my heart squeezed almost too tightly.

"Light, take your clothes off," I demanded in sheer pleasure before he complied obediently, which was so different to how he normally was. It was tantalizing, almost killing me from how much he would listen to me.

Off came his shirt above his head as I touched his body gingerly, blushing furiously of the radiating heat from his skin. He wasn't fit nor full of fat. If he sucked in, I would have been able to see his sculpted stomach. He was just the definition of those who never worked out but could seem like he did.

No, this can't be happening.

Mom was still upstairs.

Light stood motionless at my touch, watching my reaction as I ran my hands up and down his body, earning a shivering groan from him. His hands were on my pants, tugging them hesitantly before I caught his action.

"That-" I closed my eyes, swallowing down my lust with a painful bite of my lip.

"Light, we can't." I opened my eyes as his eyes blazed furiously at mine.

"You want it," he towered over me, pushing me back down onto the sofa as my legs quaked. The air around us was stiff with heat, silencing me and burning into my insides. Light yanked my leg towards him, forcing me to wrap them around his waist.

I could feel it through his whole body.

Anticipation, desire, frustration.

He wanted me desperately.

I wanted more from him.

I desperately wanted him.

"I do," I let my head fall backwards along with my curls. "I really do."

Trying to ignore my wetness, I swallowed.

"But that's a line we can't cross," I opened my eyes and cupped his cheeks, forcing them to gaze into mine. "That's a line we can never cross."

He stilled at my words, realizing just how far we were about to push past our boundaries. As if something ran through his head, he leaned off of my body, running his fingers through his hair.

Was he angry?

Was he frustrated?

I couldn't tell anymore.

But I also couldn't leave it like this.

It would leave me with an awkward disadvantage.

I touched his shoulders gingerly before nipping him in the lips as if he were so fragile enough to crack. He responded slightly but stiffly, hands flying up to my shoulders before he gripped them tighter. I smiled through our sombre actions, licking his lips the last time before I stood up and forced my legs out of the dining room.

I was no idiot.

I knew what Light was aiming for. Because I was the only one who had a similar view of the world, he thought I was interesting. Because I was also able to keep up with him, he viewed me as someone useful.

Because I knew about the Death Note, he needed a way to keep my mouth shut.

And what better way was it to make your sister fall in love with you, and then protect you?

Even though he couldn't fake his passion, I knew part of his attraction to me was his calculation. Yes, we were both undeniably attracted to each other.

But that was why I pulled away.

To be completely honest, I didn't care if we went all the way or not. But like most men, the chasing process was the most thrilling for them. The easier you gave into them, the quicker they'll throw you away.

I had to play with Light like a yo-yo.

Before we could come to close, I would push him away. And using the excuse that what we were committing was incest, Light had to obey my wishes. He knew that it would not taste sweet if he took the unripened fruit with force.

And I twisted that to my advantage.

The more he wanted me-the more I would give.

But only bit by bit.

But just before he could reach what he truly desired, I would push him away.

"Sayu, you're not coming home early these days," My mother frowned at her own food as Light ate silently beside me for breakfast. The good thing was that because of my action before I left Light hot and bothered, there was no awkward sexial tension between us.

"Mom, you know that Mr. Hoshino is tutoring me for my graduation, right?" I placed my chopsticks on my plate before wiping my mouth quietly.

"Yes, but recently it has gotten so late…" She whispered before glancing at my direction. "If you meet any trouble, you'll call me, right?"

"Of course, mom." I smiled softly and stood up, walking next to her to give her a light peck on her cheek. "Don't worry, after today I'll try to be home before 6 pm."

"Are you staying over at a friend's again?" Light bit out hard as my gaze locked with his.

"Yes," I breathed airly. "Just for today."

Light's eyes narrowed just a split second at my state before ripping them away from my face. I heard Ryuk's question that Light couldn't ask.

"Girly, are you going to the same place yesterday?"

I laughed slightly and shook my head in an unsuspecting manner before I picked up my backpack and headed off to the front door after bidding my family farewell.

Though, I wasn't even sure I'd be able to live to see tomorrow's sunlight.

My legs felt like lead as I carried them towards the alleyway 3 minutes before the so-called meeting would occur. To be honest, I knew that they would move me much further away and that the alleyway was just a place to pick me up.

I gulped nervously before wiping my sweaty hot palms on my skirt.

All or nothing, Sayu.

All or nothing.

"Yo," I saw the blond wave cautiously before he approached me with a blindfold.

"Ey, whassup." I smirked before gesturing to him to go ahead with the tying. He did.

I was guided gently into what I thought felt like a car, sitting in the seat with my arms crossed over each other before yawning quietly as the engine started to roar.

"I don't really want to make a big scene when I get there," I paused after speaking out, feeling the presence of 4 people in the car. "But before you guys deem me a threat, at least let me finish my explanation."

"It depends on what kind of explanation it is," I heard the voice of the blond grunt before he nudged me in the knee. "If you're simply wasting our time, you're dead."

"What a pleasant way to treat your guest." I purred in his direction before smugly grinning.

"But being boring is the last thing I had in mind. What I was saying is the thing that can help you eliminate all your enemies." I patted my bag that was still hung over my shoulder.

The car screeched to a halt as I felt them all stiffen.

"Don't worry," I said in the direction that I felt a click that was eerily similar to a gun. "I have a condition that makes me unable to use it."

I shrugged as the sound of the weapon started to lower.

"I need something from your boss," I continued to say as the car started again. "Treat me as your trade partner. Who knows? Maybe in the future, we'll be comrades."

The rest of the ride was silent with some occasional coughing and smell of smoke before we reached our destination and the blindfold of me was pulled roughly off my head. My eyes followed the four men who came out of the car with me, all blocking my entrance to escape.

Mafia.

I shook my head.

Always so serious.

We walked into a huge white building that seemed much more expensive than the ones I saw in my neighbourhood. It was decorated in a more western way than the traditional Japanese mansion. The walls were pure white with two statues in the form of lions on each side of the grand glass door.

Whoever this boss was, he was rich.

Walking into the house, I felt gazes on me, which I ignored. Following the blond into a conference-like room, I found myself sitting across an old man with a scar across the back of his right hand. He seemed to be around the mid 40's, who still maintained a built body and a charming yet intimidating face.

His face was tanned while his green eyes were staring at me emotionlessly as he called for his attendants for some tea. I watched his gray hair get ruffled by his thick hands before the tea came in front of us, placed politely with a small clatter.

I took the tea, staring at it blankly before taking a small sip. I was well aware that the man was staring holes in my actions, taking in every bit of move I did with my body. My gaze wandered to the two guards on each side of the door, and another two behind him, including the blond.

"So," I cleared my throat before placing the glass cup onto the table. "You're the boss?"

"You may call me Henrik. And yes, I am the boss."

"Hm, you're not from here, are you?" I immediately changed my language to my mother tongue, English, forcing him to smile with surprise.

"I never imagined a small girl like you could master English." He shifted back into the black long couch before replying in English.

"You should be aware that my actual age is 32," I commented lightly before earning a skeptical eyebrow from him.

"Sayu Yagami, age 14." He repeated my information before I held up my hand.

"Before I start explaining, I would like your promise to hear me out before you pull out your guns and aim them at me." I eyed him warily and kept my voice firm.

Henrik smiled sweetly before gesturing to me to go on.

"I need your verbal promise," I lingered on my request before his eyes relaxed a bit slightly.

"You are an intelligent child, Miss Sayu." He chuckled, "very well, I will promise to do that."

I nodded at his words, sighing before I started.

"First, I should start with my brother," I paused before looking at him. "He's Kira."

The whole room began to stiffen as I heard a bunch of clicks from his guards. Henrik held up his hand to silence them.

"How much do you know about Kira?" I asked.

"He is a man who hates criminals," Henrik started slowly before breaking out. "And he has a special power that can kill without coming into physical contact with the victim."

I bobbed my head at his words.

"You see, my brother is a genius- was a bored genius." I shrugged before taking another sip from my tea. "He made a deal with a Death God."

"Are you telling me Death Gods are real?" Henrik narrowed his eyes at me before I shrugged.

"I can demonstrate right now if you want me to," I paused. "Kira's power, not the Death God of course."

Henrik stiffened.

"Oh don't worry, I can't use his power but you can." I rolled my shoulders before unzipping my bag. I felt Henrik's hawk-like gaze on each of my movements. I slid out a piece of Death Note before giving it to him.

"Write the name of who you want to kill and imagine the face. He will die of a heart attack in 40 seconds." I said simply as Henrik glanced at one of his attendants, handing the paper over to them before they wrote something and waited a minute. A minute and two seconds passed before the blond dude received a call from someone, flinching in horror before nodding tightly at Henrik. The boss's eyes hardened before turning towards me.

"Explain."

"Will do," I shrugged casually.

"My brother met a Death God just half a year ago. His wish was to be relieved from his boredom, in which the God handed him a book called the Death Note."

I pointed to the page his guards had in hand.

"What you have now, is a page of the Death Note."

Henrik's eyes flickered to the piece of paper before calling it over for examination. Greed and his apparent ambition flickered across his face, making me smile

Ah, he's quite the active one. Ambition will take you somewhere if you have the power to make it a reality. And his power will come from me.

"Why are you not able to use it?" He marvelled at the page before looking at me.

"I have aphantasia," I stated simply. "The conditions to use it is to imagine the face while writing the name."

Henrik gave me a look of understanding before nodding silently.

"In your interests, I also made a contract with the Death God." I tossed my hair backwards before Henrik grimaced at the thought.

"I asked for a redo of my life."

His eyes widened before inhaling a sharp breath.

"Why?"

"Because my brother had killed off my entire family and me, to rule the world." I snarled, grinding my teeth together. The blond physically flinched at my words. In contrast, the man in front of me was steady and calculative.

"Just before Death, I had met the Death God. Apparently, it could grant me a wish before sacrificing something else in return. And my sacrifice was that I could never personally use the Death Note in my second life."

Henrik rubbed his chin at the thought, urging me to go on.

"Long story short, I got revived, so I know the future. Kira wins and all criminals are gone. But as I told the blond over there, I'm more on the side of criminals myself than be the justice-seeking freak like my brother is."

I paused before staring motionlessly.

"Henrik, what is it that you want?"

The man paused in front of me, eyes gleaming before chuckling.

"I want power," he said "I want to rule the underworld."

"Hm, I can help you make that reality." I nodded, drumming my fingers on my lap. "I can also give you power on the surface."

Henrik gripped the arm of his chair tightly before giving me a curious smile.

"You come to me with an extremely tempting offer, Miss Sayu."

I crossed my legs and smirked.

"Here are my terms for the contract: I will provide you with the pages of the Death Note if I can and I will help you reign over the NPA. You will accept me as your adopted daughter and provide me with resources I will need in the future." I smiled softly at the man who now had an interesting look on his face.

"You don't find your parent's company enjoyable, do you?" He propped his chin on his hand.

"Hardly," I agreed. "My father had always expected me to act the same as my brother, screaming childish justice and abiding to the law."

"Thus why I am going to follow what happened in my past life and let them die."

Henrik gave me a stern look.

"And what can assure me that I won't turn out with the same death?" He asked.

With a watchful gaze, I explained the usage of the Death Note in my case. Instead of fully telling him that the Death Note could manipulate the actions of Death, I told him about my writers, and how they would be able to follow all my orders. To wash away his skepticism, I told him to write what I did for my writers and had him enter his subordinate's name for me to control.

He had a very amusing time as I ordered one guy in the suit to start doing a pirouette.

"Although I have found a way to use the Death Note, it is not wise for me to get into contact with my writers for every single kill." I said.

Henrik instantly agreed with me, saying that it was too much of a risk under L, who my brother was fighting with.

"Henrik, if our deal is made, you will sign your name along with mine on the Death Note," I proposed. "Instead of following orders though, we will sign under the terms: Will not betray each other in any way."

The grin on my face was radiant.

"Once your name is written on the Death Note, there is no other way to use the Note on you," he hummed pleasingly at my suggestion. It not only had served as a protection but as insurance that bounded me to him. "Tempting, very tempting."

He paused.

"You do know that your life is currently in my hands?" Henrik's eyes twinkled thoughtfully.

"And you do know Kira is my brother? If he finds out that I am gone, he will chase you to the ends of the Earth."

"But you said he doesn't have any lingering attachments to his family," Henrik beamed deeper.

Why the heck was this guy so happy when I was literally telling him that if I didn't walk away from this room alive, he'd be dead? Also, I never imagined in my whole life that I would use someone else's name to threaten for my life.

Gosh damn, I'm changing faster than I did in 2021.

"Correction, that was my past life." I pointed out, smiling myself. "I can fully tell you that in this life, he finds me more than the relationship of normal siblings."

"...So you seduced him," the boss murmured with a look of amazement, finally flickering his gaze to mine in acknowledgement.

"You'll do extremely well on our side."

I lifted my cup above eye level and gave him a toast. Minutes passed as we sat in silence, me casually breaking the noiseless room by asking for another helping of tea. Henrik laughed at my actions, murmuring occasionally on how perfect I was for the position of being his daughter.

Face it, I didn't look like an overwhelming beauty, but makeup could solve that. I had the assets on my chest and butt that could make enough men turn heads already. I was willing to use any dirty way to get my methods to work, and I had the skills of manipulation.

Not to mention with the signing, he did not have to worry about me pulling a rug from under him. Well, that was what he thought. He didn't know that the Death Note would never be able to work on me.

Cackle, Cackle, Cackle.

"Then I should first welcome you, my daughter." Henrik extended his hands in a fatherly way before I smiled.

"Merci beaucoup, papa," I gestured to the Note that his subordinates were writing the words that we agreed to. Henirk's laughed boomed through the room again when hearing my accent.

"Good heavens," he smacked his face with his hand. "I must have saved a third-world country in my past life!"

"Or maybe we should just call it fate when both of us found each other in need," I smirked before signing my name on his version of an ordinary paper contract and looking over the Death Note contract while nodding to his subordinate and watched him very carefully as he wrote his boss's name and mine onto the Death Note.

We watched the 6 minutes and 40 seconds pass by quietly, and when the deal was sealed, I opened my mouth.

"Now, let me fill you in on everything that's going to happen in the future."
