Chapter 50

It was true that my outburst was fabled, but I had not expected that I would be so...emotionally attached to it. Yes, it was all set up, but each and every word was directed from both Sayu and me. I was disappointed by the treatment that Sayu had, despite her life being so much better than mine.

My parents had hurt me mentally and physically when Sayu's had only known less love for her. We were both children that lacked love and I was changing that through murder. I sighed before grabbing out my phone from my pocket and tossing it onto the bed.

Goodbye, Light's creepy GPS.

No matter if Soichiro allowed it or not, I was going to America. The scene that I created had basically guaranteed my exit in the runaway form for guilt-tripping. I huffed before whipping my moist eyes and went to the closet to gather my clothes. Honestly, I did not need to pack, but just for the sake of appearances, I had to at least pack my daily necessities.

Sniffing once again, I zipped my purple suitcase and clicked the push-in button to pull out the long handle of the rectangular barhandle. Wearing my newly bought boot heels, I walked to the door and pulled it open. Light and dad were still discussing my acceptance to Harvard as they saw me.

Dad's eyes were in his hands before lifting up his face to reveal their damp and deflated state. Light's eyes widened when he saw my suitcase and called out to me as I directly paced to the door like I was near some kind of plague.

"Sayu-"

"I'm leaving today," I took a deep breath as I heard dad jerk up from the couch before trying to protest. I shook my head and shut him down before turning to him and giving a wry smile.

"Maybe this trip will calm me down, dad."

With that, I left our house.

My gaze directed outside of the plane as I glanced around the economy class seats. Normally I would have taken Henrik's private jet, yet just in case Light could track my flight ticket, I took the economy class just to make sure. The seat I was in was near the window, a white cloth had covered the top of the seat as my legs tried to stretch out. The smell of rubber and plastic-filled my senses along with the start of the instructions coming from the flight attendants.

It was fresh since this was the first time that I was listening to directions despite travelling a lot on Henrik's private jet. Or should I just call it my own jet? Henrik had three jets in total, while he did not specify that he gave one to me, I was able to use it to my beck and call.

I smiled softly as the plane started to take off, lifting from the ground as the woman beside me gripped her armrest in fear. It was probably the first time that she was taking a plane. I didn't blame her though. In this day and age, not many people had the luxury of travelling so much, especially with the expenses that Japanese people use.

A lunchbox at a convenience store was practically your half day's salary.

I should definitely buy my own jet plane in the future. I leaned back my head before calculating the things that Henrik had told me to finish in America. Of course, I had all the time to study, but I also had to make it in time for Near's appearance.

I had remembered from some youtube video that Light had ruled the world for four continuous years, in which last year was L's death. It was currently 2005, so around 2009, the events should start. I sighed before thinking of the companies that I could buy that would become an icon in the future.

For fashion brands, I already had some in mind. Originally I wanted to take over Victoria's Secret but that brand was currently bustling with its assets. No, that company was too high for me to reach. I had a few options: Forever 21, which I had to sell before it hit 2020, and some other nameless brands that would make it big in the future.

Anyways, I had the whole ride to think about it.

I closed my eyes and enjoyed my 18-hour flight.

"Right, so here's what we need to do," I drafted out my plan as a few of my guards peered over the page.

"Chia, you're my manager 24 hours a day, so I'll have Adriano take over the business by getting in contact with the major companies," I said as Chia, the purple-haired woman in a suit nodded beside Adriano who stood perfectly still.

There were both guards from Henrik's place. Knowing about the Death Note and my true identity helped a lot in ordering their actions. I didn't need to worry about the information seeping out, nor did I need to tell them specifically what they had to do. They were already quite familiar with taking on Death Note jobs.

"Adriano, your job is to meet as many people as you can and use them to enter companies. They will become our spies for the blueprints."

"Also," I shuffled out a long list of companies ranging from fashion brands to technology brands that were still small before the year 2021. "Buy all these companies. I will appoint all the managers personally. Also, open several mask shops."

My eyes shifted towards the door as both guards nodded, walking towards the door and allowing another 8 people with suits to come in. It was surprising how easily authority came here through connections and titles. The moment I was known as Alyona, Henrik's long-lost daughter, I was already in command of several men. At the moment of my contribution to Xzar's downfall and my heroic and tragic story in the torture chambers, I had gained an extreme amount of respect.

Well, that only worked better for me.

"Introduce yourself, members," I clapped my hands together, resounding the echo as all of them chorused a 'yes, miss' in union.

One by one, they gave me a brief description of their skills and their preferences for a leader. I nodded at each one of the qualities, grinning when one mentioned that they hoped I was 'cruel.'

Oh my, they didn't know, did they?

"Do you know why you are called here, men?" I barked out as they stood in silence, all of their eyes trained on me. I smiled slyly.

"There are a total of 400 members in his base," I paused and eyed them all one by one. "You 8 are the chosen ones to lead 8 units. Each of you will become a captain."

They flinched from my words. A leader needed to form a hierarchy the moment they took reign over the ropes.

"The 8 units will be: military, information gathering, recruiting units 1 and 2, building, trading, lab experimenting, and interrogation." I walked in front of them as the facts sunk into their heads, then realizing why I had chosen them from a group of people.

"I have 8 files here with your job description and what you have to do. I will be checking on each unit every week, so remember to keep everything up!" I raised my hand as they all saluted with determination on their faces.

"And from now on, call me Alyona. I will be your leader, and the only leader that will lead you to victory!"

I lay on my bed with a blank stare directed at the ceiling. There were so many things to do as the leader of the base. I was beginning to realize how hard it was to maintain the position and the faith in my men while studying at a world top school. School for me started three days later, but I was already busy with directing and planning for the future of my base.

Base Castor.

My base was named after the star of Gemini, which was my horoscope from my past life. I didn't know if the name sounded overly romantic or childish coming from a 16-year-old, but I named it because the name sounded unpredictable, just like the two-faced star sign.

There were a total of 680 bases located in America, and although I did not want to start a war with any of the bases, I knew that it was basically inevitable with the personalities of the Mafia. Castor was located near the forest, mostly isolated but just months before it was given to me, another group called Ilias had attacked us.

We suffered minimal losses and had captured 6 of their members, but all our information was stolen. Although the information was nothing more than the personal profiles and remaining locations of abandoned bases that Henrik deemed useless a few years ago, that still told me a lot about the mafia groups.

They were quite ambitious and sneaky.

I had thought about reaching out to other bases and controlling them with the Death Note, but that would be too risky, considering the possibilities that they could just shoot me the moment I entered their territory. Even if I wanted to propose helping each other, what could I provide with this mesley base of mine?

I needed to get this base stronger.

The good thing was that I was already partially trained from all the games I've played in my previous life. There was never once I knew that my gaming experience would actually help with building and creating something close to a kingdom.

Tomorrow, I had to hold a meeting with the whole base and make some kind of epic speech that I was probably going to do on the spot or just rehearse a few hours before the actual thing.

I'd also have to have Chia write all the names of the members in the interrogation and experiment units.

I licked my lips as ideas started forming in my mind.

It had to stay confidential.

This was also why I selected 10 members for each group, the two units being the smallest out of all groups. They consisted only of the most intelligent people and easily manipulated people from all my members.

Couldn't have them betraying me halfway and telling the things that I was conducting.

The building unit was something that I created to expand our base, also modify the training room as to how I wanted it to turn out.

A grin spread sadistically across my face.

Real-life battle royale, here I come~

"-Think about where you're going and never been to," I echoed out loud as the people beneath stared at me with silent expressions. I looked small, smaller when I saw those 19 and older members of Castor listen to a 16-year-old girl who honestly had not tested out for her leadership roles.

I extended out my hands and tried to make myself seem larger.

"Think about the things that others have achieved," I paused before scanning everyone. At least they weren't making faces of distrust or disgust. "Do you want it?"

"Do you want that life?" I yelled as my own voice bellowed through the crowds. I saw someone shiver beneath me as they hollered out a positive response. Others followed each row piping in and raising up their own fists.

"Yes! I want it!"

"I want riches!"

"I want revenge!"

"I want them all dead!"

"I want power!"

I inhaled deeply in the sea of voices before drowning myself in them.

"Then fight for it!" I yelled out over all of them as they fell silent.

"We will pluck those who stand at the top and drag them down under our feet! We will watch them suffer from disobeying us, and we will stand on top of the food chain-"

"-And we will prevail!"

They roared.

Honestly, I have no idea what I was saying but…

"Our motto is Ambition! We do not need age as a number! We only see the skill and what you desire. We will achieve everything together, fight, and win with our ranks!"

The whole base shook as the hollers rang throughout the halls, especially from the younger ranks.

Holy- I just realized that my group is literally the Slytherins in modern-day form.

I turned back with a dramatic whip of my hand before Chia came up to me smiling as her purple ponytail flicked behind her all the way to her waist.

"Well done, Alyona, you have successfully stood out as a leader."

"They don't call me a genius for nothing, Chia," I grinned before staring closely at the floor I was standing on. The whole base had a level of three layers, the first one being on the surface and the other two were underground. Each layer had around 4 rooms with its own training space and soundproof walls.

The one I was standing on was the balcony that linked with a long hall located on the second floor. But that was not enough. The base was way too small. The good thing was that Henrik did not give me a limit for what I could spend with his credit card to build my base. It was like my resources were endless. Well, that was probably because Henrik wanted my base to be as successful as possible.

"Chia, I want you to tell the building unit to build more rooms on the second floor. All the rooms will be used for the military unit to train. Make sure that the trading unit links up with Henrik's other bases so that we can bring in the training materials." I pictured my plan before speaking again.

"There will be 6 levels for our base. The lowest will be for the experiment unit, I will go talk to them on what I want them to produce, but make sure to order the highest quality of non-flammable materials and the rest, they will tell you after my discussion with them."

"Alyona, we have a problem," Chia spoke out before we stopped in front of the clanky elevator.

"Make sure this elevator is secure and fixed too," I pointed warily at the piece of metal before stepping onto it. "Speak."

"We could use the boss Henrik's trading routes, but it would be wise to establish our own connections," she spoke carefully before I shot her an icy glare. She instantly shut her mouth with a confused eyeful of questions.

"Chia, remind me, who is your boss?"

"Oh!" Blinking a few times, Chia cleared her throat before rephrasing her question.

"We could use Henrik's trading routes, I apologize, boss."

"You are a very clever girl, Chia," I commented with a frigid ice coating my voice. "Do not forget that you are now my person."

"Yes, boss." She ducked her head with a luminous grin before fluidly placing a brand new cell phone with an American plan onto my extended hand.

Sure enough, Mafia people liked testing their new leaders. Flickering my eyes away from her cheery face, I dialled Anthony's number.

"Who's this?"

"Your fiance, Anthony," instantly sweetening my voice, we stepped out of the elevator which stopped at the first floor. "Did you forget your passionate speech on the beach already?"

I heard Anthony snort on the other side of the line before speaking with a haughty voice.

"And what does my dear fiance want from this lowly servant?"

"I want to establish trade routes from my base to yours. Also, if you could link me up with a couple of connections that would be good too."

Chia beside me gaped with awe and murmured 'ah, that's a way too,' before turning back to me with a fully concentrated face.

"Think that as a job done, Alyona. I'll meet you in three days to have the contract signed and give you a list of contacts. You do the rest yourself," I heard a small tick from the end of his line before thanking him.

"By the way, of our engagement rings, have you pre-ordered them yet?"

"I was thinking of a tattoo. The ring can come as our official wedding ring."

I paused before mulling over his words. A tattoo?

Pursing my lips, I thought about it. Indeed, it was very mafia-like, but a tattoo?

Damn, I feel like I am being pushed into the culture day by day!

"It can be a small one, and you can choose the design." Anthony's voice rang out after my long pause of silence, trying to persuade me over.

"Tell me, why choose that? Wouldn't rings just do the job?"

Anthony chuckled.

"Is it wrong to want to mark my woman?"

My face flushed a bit from his words as Chia blinked rapidly, clapping silently before giving me a firm nod with her head. This girl-

I rolled my eyes at her.

She and I will get along just fine.

"I'll choose the spot and the design. No complaining, Anthony."

"Roger that, captain! Is there anything else you need?"

"I'm quite good, thanks," I flashed him a smile that he couldn't see before he bid me farewell and we hung up at the same time.

"You and your fiance are the ideal couple," Chia murmured with a tint of jealousy before sighing with her hand supporting her cheek.

"We are," I laughed before poking her on the head, even though I was one head shorter than her. "Now, get to work."

Harvard University made me squeal so hard that I couldn't even stop my inner fangirl from squawking like some kind of commoner. It was so beautifully decorated, the school being one of the largest buildings that I had ever seen. Greek poles like the ancient temple supported the long outdoor halls that led to each classroom.

It was like a medieval palace from the past century, except they had preserved it well so it seemed to be a bigger version of Hogwarts. Buildings between buildings gave each other space to walk through, the walls painted with a fresh coat of reddish-brown and the tower that most buildings had, pointed their sharpness at the sky to make their declaration.

Countless windows were plastered over one structure, two round cylindrical spaces decorated the plain and clean rectangular building. Even the trees gave off a majestic kind of feeling on the properties of Harvard. It was mid-day when the sun was shining brightly as the green grass brightened the serious atmosphere of the area.

"Damn," I was breathless and clutching my books like a freshman. To-Oh couldn't even compare to this. Not at all. Even though I was enrolled into the Arts faculty because I couldn't catch up with the law here, I was ecstatic.

English had been the major I was pursuing in my last life, so this was like a level up and a chance to delve even deeper into the world of English.

"If this is a dream, wake me up so I can make it a reality."

I breathed in the scent before rolling my eyes back into my sockets.

I was going to love this school.

"Anthony, are you okay with this design?" I hummed and pointed to a flower that took the form of a Chinese lily, simple and delicate. The stem was curved into an elegant 'J' as the flower had 8 petals, not linked to each other and left a small space in the middle.

"I'm surprised you chose something so Chinese," Anthony chuckled before nudging me with his arm and nodding in approval. "Do you even know what the lily means?"

I shook my head before he placed on a knowing smile.

"Chastity and devotion," he said as I turned to the simple design, admiring the meaning. It did suit us, being engaged at a young age meant that we were both pure, and his vow of giving his life to me.

It honestly suited him so much that I suddenly felt that the design was so unfit for me. I wasn't pure at all, in fact, Anthony also knew about my crush on Light. I opened my mouth to ask for a different design but I halted.

Light's voice rang pleasantly in my ears.

Sayu, he called. You have drowned too deep with me.

"Let's get it," Anthony turned to me with an irresistible grin which instantly forced my mouth to clamp shut. His eyes slightly lowered before taking my hand and rubbing his thumb over my wrist which I had proposed to us to stamp the tattoo at.

"Even if-" he sighed a bit before continuing. "Even if your heart is not where it belongs, our promise is still there."

Our promise to never betray each other. His promise to me that he would be there when I broke.

My eyes glimmered sadly.

"Anthony, you have no idea how much I hate my heart right now," I forced out a small laugh as he closed his eyes, shaking his head.

"This is an arranged marriage, Alyona. It is to be expected." He intertwined my fingers with his nad kissing the tips of our hands and staring frankly at me. "I only hope that after you kill him, I will be the only one left."

It was a plea for the future.

A plea that I would not leave him.

Didn't he say that he did not like me…?

We will never be able to escape each other.

The drunken fleeting of Light's words felt like a shackle on my neck.

"I will, Anthony," this time, I was the one that kissed his fingers, grazing my eyes over the design once more before whispering my promise. The dark twinkle of Light's gaze burned in my mind as I said my words, jutting me with guilt.

"He must die."

My heart wrenched with the indescribable emotion of a certain ache.

Even if I liked Light, no, loved him even…

Light and I had no future.
