Yu-Gi-Oh! GX

The Beginning of Destiny

Disclaimer: I don't own Yugioh, its spin-offs, or its games, just the main character and the extras I throw in.

Well folk, here is the chapter that gives my character some backstory, some history, and also, there might be a couple of flashbacks. Would be more, but unfortunately, my memories of Yugioh and GX are mostly fuzzy, and right now, trying to remember which cards started off in which series, and also, making sure I don't mix in series that came in later, like 5Ds. Call me a perfectionist, but I like to make sure that the cards match the right series.

And as for my character being OP, well, I know some folks don't enjoy it, but, hey, nobody is perfect. And also, well, while not sure if this chapter well provide a good enough why he has to win, but as for me, well, writing him to lose a duel, well, easier said than done. So don't expect much.

Chancellor's Office-Next Day

It was the morning after the whole Yugi's deck incident, along with the big reveal of Will Walker, the Crimson Duelist. While Crowler was surprised to see said deck back on display, with a new container., but, with word going around Will being the famous Crimson Duelist, and Crowler not entirely believing them, with the set belief that if said person did come to the academy, he would start off as a mighty Obelisk, not a worthless Slifer. Now, he has a voice saying that he is in deep trouble.

But enough about that pitiful fool, time to show what is going on with the gang.

We find Will, Aeris, and their group of friends, along with Chancellor Sheppard, in the Chancellor's Office, where it was considered the safest place to have a conversation without any eavesdroppers. Right now, Will is wearing his Ra Yellow jacket, his hat, he decided to forgo his hat from now on, since there is no real point to wear it anymore. He was leaning against a wall, with Aeris by his side, Zane on another wall, behind the Chancellor, and everybody else was having a seat somewhere.

Looking around, Will can see some looks of betrayal, some understanding, and in Zane's case, he is pretty much neutral. Aeris, since she was the only other person in their group to know the full truth, was there for moral support, along with getting ready to deal with whatever is coming her way. He can't blame any of them, because even though they became close, what happened last night was like they just got hit with an atomic bomb.

And now, Will is going to be telling them about the real him, the person that rumors, gossip and stories that are supposedly based off of, but has little to no grain of truth about him. While word is spreading like wildfire about who he really is, and that sides are being taken based on how people feel about it, something he doesn't really care about, right now, his main focus is to see if his friends well still be his friends after this.

Deciding to get things start, "Okay, let's get the questions out of the way." Will said.

Syrus was the first one to speak, "Why didn't you tell us who you really were?" Asking the one question that was on just about everybody's mind.

"Would you had believed me if I did?" Will countered with a question of his own, which with the look on their faces, they knew that they wouldn't have, "Even though we became good friends when I first got here, there were some secrets that I had to keep hidden before I can trust anybody with them."

While some were more understanding of this, Syrus wasn't feeling too happy about the reason, "What do you mean you had to keep things hidden before you can trust us?" He asked out loud, despite the efforts of Jayden and Chumley trying to keep him calm.

Will gave a small sigh, "Syrus, growing up as a Duel Monsters prodigy is almost a total nightmare, if not for my family's constant efforts to make sure I still have a childhood." He said, getting their attention, "Everything else was terrible. The people who I thought were my friends, were the ones that gave me a really bad reputation by making me sound like some kind of mob boss. The one girl that I thought loved me, turned out, was just using me to boost her reputation by dating a prodigy, and to make things worse, she was following orders from one of the popular girls I kept shooting down because I don't care about popularity."

Zane, who knows what it is like to be treated like a star just for your talent, "And I take it there is more to your story?" He said.

Will gave a small nod, "Yeah, ever since word came out that I was a young prodigy, I had my fair share of bullies, especially the kind that just love to pick on those younger then themselves." He explained, "It opened my eyes quite a bit after seeing how far some people would go to win, even cheating. Yet it wasn't until I was about eight when I went through a string of losses," This got a slight gasp, "But these losses were from the worse kind of cheaters."

He then told his story, (And it wasn't about a man named Brady), about this one particular bully who would cheat by letting his 'friends' see what was in Will's hand, then report it to him through a wireless ear piece. Even though Will noticed the blue light, although this person didn't bother to hide it, even when called out, decided to rub it in about who his parents were. And after his so called win, which he turns into an ante duel, he has his 'pals' hold him down while he throws free shots to try and break his spirit, and once he gets the cards he likes, he would chuck the rest of the deck to the ground, and stomp on them, just to rub it in his face that he could do whatever he wants.

When he reached the end of the first part of his story, everybody was shocked at how cruel some kids would be, even worse than Chazz, if that were ever possible.

Bastion, being the calculative one, had a thoughtful look on his face, "Wait, is this the person that caused a lot of controversy a few years ago, due to outside tampering?" He said, "One that I recall involved you, and some officials getting ready to pull something, before Seto Kaiba himself stepped up and exposed a big conspiracy."

Will gave a small nod, knowing what he was talking about, "Yeah that was the duel where I first used my Dark World deck." He explained, "He was still using the same tricks, but since nobody has ever heard of a Dark World monster, he became too cocky to think he stood a chance, but this time around, I chose to let him have it." He then shook his head at the memory, "But when he lost his life points, and actually lost, despite all the heavy cheating, that was when some really dark secrets started to surface . . ."

Flashback

After defeating his opponent with Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World, who got a big surprise at that monster's destructive power, along with its special abilities, a younger Will just recombined his deck into one and placed it into his deck box. "I win." He said, with his arms crossed, while most of the audiences were cheering for him, some even stating how they never liked his opponent.

This was when the referee stepped in, to be the bearer of bad news, "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you actually lost," He said, although most of the room could tell that he had something sinister up his sleeve, "Those cards you used, not only are they mysterious, but also unheard of." He then started to walk towards Will, his hand reaching for his deck, "And I'm going to have to confiscate your deck in order to study it more."

While most of the audience was screaming foul on the ref's part, and the parents of the duelist with disappointed looks on their faces, mainly because their son got owned in a duel that they fixed, some were wondering why he was just standing there, letting the ref reach for his deck, only for their answer to literally pop out of nowhere.

Just as the ref's hand came dangerously close to touching Will's deck, a hand shot out of nowhere, and grabbed his wrist, with a very familiar voice asking "What do you think you're doing?" And with the tone sounding like it could scare the grim reaper into skipping a number, the ref's face lost its color, as he looked up at the source. And when he did, he felt that his soul has abandoned his body.

And it wasn't just the ref either, the whole room went dead silent, because standing on the stage, protecting the true champ of the tournament, was Seto Kaiba himself, and he had a look that promised retribution for what was about to happen. Seeing how he hasn't gotten an answer, "I'll ask again, what do you think you're doing?" He asked again, "Because last time I checked, what you're about to do is against the rules."

The ref was too stunned for words, because standing in front of him was Seto Kaiba, owner of KaibaCorp, giving him a look that promised him that he would be losing his hand if he didn't give him the correct answer. And one lesson most of the world already knows is that a crossed Kaiba can become a lethal Kaiba if you're not careful.

"I was reaching for questionable cards to be reviewed . . ." The ref started off saying, only to feel a really strong pain in his wrist.

"Before handing them over to the loser brat over there in order to add to his deck." Kaiba called him out, "Something I have watched over the last few tournaments, where certain cards keep ending up in the boys deck after being confiscated by you, while the rest just disappear completely."

"Man, what kept you?" Will said, "I was about to kick this guy in the shins just to tell him to back off."

"I found some last minute stuff that required my quick attention before I came here." Kaiba said, in a tone that says heads well be rolling soon, real soon, which was causing the ref to start sweating, before he got thrown back quite a bitand the two parents to become nervous, the opponent, still not getting the full picture, "And right now, I believe there will be a massive cleanup once I bring key pieces of evidences to the right people."

While the key individuals behind all this were becoming more afraid, the opponent was too dumb to realize what it all meant. "Who cares about all that, I want those powerful cards in my hands, right now!" He yelled out, pretty much confirming a big secret, along with showing his true colors.

Will looked at him, not a sign of fear in his eyes, "You want my cards so badly, come get them." He said, getting into a fighting position, "But this time, your friends aren't here to make things easy for you."

The boy charged in, his ego making him even more stupid, "Like I need them!" He said, letting his so called wins go to his head. Yet to his surprise, he took one swing at Will, who not only ducked under it, but *oof!* punched him hard, right into the gut.

Will leapt back to make sure to avoid a counterstrike, but seeing as how his opponent is down on his knees, trying to regain his breath, "Well, that proves my point, you can dish out plenty, but taking it is a whole another story."

Flashback ends

"And the mess that came out of that was, well, calling it a controversy would be putting it lightly." Will explained.

"Why, what happened afterwards?" Bastion asked, his mind always seeking facts.

Will gave a small sigh, "For a better description, pure chaos." He said, while looking out the window, "When it became public knowledge that the tournament, along with the few before it were rigged, a lot of folks thought that Duel Monsters was doomed, because some fools decided to taint it with their own greed."

Zane stepped in, knowing where this was going, "And I take it that we are approaching when you got the name, Crimson Duelist?" He asked.

"Actually, it was about a year after that," Will continue his story, "When Seto Kaiba sets out to dig dirt on those he felt crossed a line, he leaves no stone unturned, and what he found is something even the news was too afraid to reveal it all." Feeling Aeris squeezing his hand, giving him the confidence boost he needs, "Between the two, Kaiba, and some officials, decided that I need to become the new face of Duel Monsters, so while balancing out a normal kid's life, along with school, and living what would be close to consider a pro-duelist's life, even Kaiba made sure I got paid a bit like one, to ease my family's burdens"

"So how did the name Crimson Duelist came to be?" Bastion asked.

"Does anybody remember a tournament that Maximillian Pegasus threw a few years back?" Will asked, "One where people got a chance to duel for the Blue-Eyes White Dragon set I got now?"

"You mean the 'Become Your Own Legend' Tournament?" Jayden asked.

"That's the one." Will said, "When my hands first touched the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon card, I felt a strange power going through me, something that started off painful, unbearable." Giving a brief sigh, "When I first used it in a big duel," He took off his jacket, and placed it in Aeris's hands, "The powers I got manifested themselves to where, when my dragon attacked, not only did it send my opponent flying, but also, destroyed their cards." He then took off his shirt, and handed it to a blushing Aeris, while staring at his chest, and turned around. After causing a slight gasp in the room when they seem the dragon symbol, which looked like was drawn onto his back, light up like somebody turned on some kind of switch, "When those behind me saw this for the first time in the media, not sure where, but the name 'Crimson Duelist' appeared in a headline, and the title stuck."

While putting his clothes back on, although Aeris couldn't hid her disappointment that she can no longer look at his bare chest, Jaydan was the first to snap out of the shock, "Wait, that dragon thing isn't shirt dye?" He said, asking what was on just about everybody's minds.

"Nope, afraid not." Will said, putting his coat back on, "When the doctors examined it, according to them, it seemed like nothing more than a birthmark, yet seems like something else when it lights up."

"And how does it light up?" Chumley asked, after finding out one really shocking secret.

Will gave a small shrug of his shoulders, while Aeris had her arm wrapped around his, "Mainly by will alone, sometimes by emotion, along with the powers it gives me," He started to explain, "Sometimes; it would light up by itself, either for no reason, or act like a warning that something is heading my way."

Alexis, who was livid at the whole thing, looked at Aeris, and decided to ask the one question that was bothering her, "I take it you've already known about this?" She asked, getting a nod from the girl, "For how long?"

"After Jaden and Syrus had to fight for right to stay here." Aeris said, referring to the 'Abandoned Dorms' incident.

"And why didn't you tell me?" Alexis asked, feeling a bit betrayed.

Aeris placed a hand onto her head, "Well, it wasn't my secret to tell, and since I'm his girlfriend, then he was testing me to keep such a big secret a secret." She started to answer, "Because well, if you can't trust somebody like your girlfriend to help keep your secret safe, then who can you trust?"

While everybody understood the reasoning, Alexis kept going, "But you could have trusted me to keep the secret." She said, her pride still hurt.

"Yeah, but could you stop Jasmine and Mindy from eavesdropping?" Aeris asked, pretty much shutting her up.

And just like that, her sore pride became overshadowed by that one very good reason. Alexis knew that Jasmine and Mindy could never resist sharing gossip, and considering their hatred for Will at the time, along with how they've been treating Aeris, they would have used the info to discredit him, and destroy his reputation just for their own amusement. With, or without the proof.

Now, there was just one more question to ask, "And what caused you to decide that you wanted to attend the academy instead of going straight to the pro-league?" Bastion asked, his inquisitive mind always looking for answers.

"Yeah, Will, with how you duel, and how much you know, you could have gotten a head start on becoming a professional duelist." Jayden said.

"Because that would be taking the really easy way through life, and I was taught by my family that anything that looks so easy, would have some harsh surprises not too far behind." Will explained, "Sure, I could have gone pro a couple of years ago, but then, if I were to encounter that one lost, or get burned out, then what would be my plan B in life?"

Zane decided to pick now to have his say in the discussion, "And I take it your disappearance from the public last year was because of burn out?" He said.

"Most of it, yeah," Will answered, "After spending so much time balancing a duelist's life with my regular life, especially with school involved, it was tedious at most, and when add how the people who you used to be close with treat you so differently, like you're something you're not, well, things start to reach a breaking point, to where I just want to get away from it all for a while."

"So how were you able to disappear for so long?" Syrus asked, the pain he felt from his friend's truth being almost gone, after hearing a few harsh truths about him.

Once again, giving a small sigh, "Well, having people like Seto Kaiba and Yugi Moto serve as your mentors is a nice thing, but having a bond with them similar to those of siblings, well, it made being with them something extra special."

Flashback #2

In Domino Park, after a day of intense duels, Will is sitting on the bench, having some personal time for himself. Lately, he has been questioning his life lately, especially since the only people that seem to be left in his life are his family, along with Yugi and his friends, everybody else, well, they changed around him, forcing him to change a bit.

Then, to add a bit more stress, three mysterious cards appeared out of nowhere during the night, and for some reason, he could sense that these three were on same level as Yugi's Egyptian God Cards. While tempted to use them right away, yet with enough common sense, knew that he better learn more about them before using them. Because with his powers, he be too afraid these cards might do some serious harm to his opponent, along with himself.

But right now, he is just hoping for some peace and quiet to sooth his aching mind and soul, which is why he was sitting alone. At the moment, he felt like his life is at some sort of impasse, and trying to figure out what is left for him in life.

This was when, "Ah I thought I would find you here." Will turned to see Yugi Moto looking at him with a concerned face, "Namine called me and sounded worried." When Will turned his head back to the front, while Yugi decided to take up the space next to him on the bench.. "Is everything okay with you?"

Will gave out a small sigh, "Not really, feel like I'm going through a major burnout." He said.

Having a good strong idea why, "Want to talk about it?" Yugi asked, lending an ear.

After spending about an hour talking, with Will letting everything off his chest, while Yugi relayed some of his experiences when Duel Monsters became a big part of his life. After that, Will went home, looking like a big weight was removed from his shoulders.

Yugi, on the other hand, had a concerned look on his face, concern over the wellbeing and future of his friend.

Flashback ends

"And after that, Yugi talked to Kaiba, and they both agreed that I, along with my family, deserve to get away for a good long while." Will explained, "Away from Duel Monsters, away from home, everything, and Kaiba was more than willing to flip the bill to make it happen."

"Why would Mr. Kaiba do such a kind thing to you?" Alexis asked.

"Because even though he comes off as a big jerk, and trust me, 7 out of 10 times, he is a big jerk," Will started to explain, "But he also has a good heart, and considering what I've went through for years, this was his way of making it up for what I had to sacrifice in order to become the new face of Duel Monsters."

"And how did your family take it?" Syrus asked.

"Well, my parents were onboard, mainly because they wanted to catch up on some lost family time, but my sister Namine, well, at first, she wasn't sure about leaving what few friends she did have, but she chose family over friends, especially since, like me, the ones she considered friends, turned out to be anything but." Will explained, "Basically, we packed everything we needed, while Kaiba moved everything into a new place, in order for us to have a fresh start."

"And what have you been doing during the last year." Zane asked, curious even more about this person who had to face things that would probably never reach the news right away.

"Mainly relaxed, traveled the world, but I also spent some time getting to understand my powers enough to get them to work with me." Will explained, "With three powerful God cards in my hands I needed to make sure that they understand who's in charge when it comes to duels." He then had on a big smile, "And thanks to my family, they were able to help remind me what life outside of a deck is like."

Alexis, remembering from a past conversation she had with Will, decided to ask, "Will, do you by any chance have a picture of your sister?"

Seeing as now that the secret is out, might as well show them. Shrugging his shoulders, "Yeah I do." Will said, while reaching into his inside pocket, and pulled out a small photo, "This is us at a beach in Maui."

When Alexis got the picture, while not noticing the crowd surrounding to look over her shoulder, she looked into it and can't help but feel a little envious. The reason behind it, well, is that in the picture, she sees Will, in a pair of swim trunks, looking like he was about to fall over, having a good laugh, while on top of him, was Namine, who was wearing a pink one-piece swimsuit, her auburn hair in pigtails, and her face was laughing hard, considering her eyes were closed. In some ways, even though they were twins, they were nothing alike, at least on the outside.

After getting the picture back, and handing it to Aeris, who would also like to see for herself, Alexis asked, "What is she like?"

When Aeris handed him the picture, and while he was placing it back to its original place, "Well, you'll find out during family day, but to put it simply, she has no real interest in Duel Monsters, wants to become a fashion designer, a bit of a girly girl, and other than that, you'll just have to wait until family day in order to meet her."

Sensing that would be all they would be getting from him, Chumley asked the next question, "And why did you decide to come to Duel Academy if you could start becoming a professional duelist now?"

"Because in a way, I already got a taste of it, and it almost destroyed my life completely." Will explained, "If I went pro now, and not have a plan B in life, if I were to go through that one big loss in a duel, I also end up losing more in life." Then giving Aeris a look, that cause her to tilt her head a bit, "And basically, the Academy was to be a fresh start for me, and it was, got to gain some new friends, find true love, and get to relax for a bit, despite the clowns I had to deal with."

While Aeris was blushing when Will said he found true love, Chancellor Sheppard decided to step in, "And as to how he was able to join the academy without raising suspicion, well, to put it simply, when the owner of the island tells you to get ready to admit a new student after classes start, you have no other choice but to listen." Sheppard explained, "And I was the only person to know most of the story. Zane, while he figured it out, this would be the first time he has heard the full story."

"So now, the question is what now guys?" Will asked, since Aeris already gave her answer quite a while ago, "Are we still friends, or not?"

Jaydan was the first to step up, since thinking isn't exactly his strongest suit, "Of course we are bro," He answered, getting a smile from everybody else in the room, "I mean sure, you kept a secret from us, but after hearing what you've been through, who can blame you for hiding it."

While everybody gave a slight nod, or in Zane's case, a smile, indicating that they agree with Jayden, Will felt like he made the right choice in coming here. "Thank you everybody for understand, and still wanting to be with me." He said with sincerity, before giving a small sigh, "Especially with the backlash I'll be dealing with once I step out of here?"

"Backlash?" Syrus asked, not entirely sure what he means.

Zane was more than kind enough to fill him in, along with Jayden and Chumley, "Now that word is out that the Crimson Duelist is on the island, and Will is him, people would be divided on not only the truth, but wither they believe it or not." He explained.

Bastion then continued, "And not only that, but also, once word gets off the island that Will has resurfaced, and where he is at, then who's to say that life on the island would ever be the same again."

Realizing that they were right, everybody couldn't help but pity Will for what he is about to go through. Checking his PDA, Will stood up, and stretched a bit, along with Aeris, "Anyway, since we still have the weekend, I think I'm going to go enjoy it while I can," He then looked at Aeris, who was giving him a look, "After we take a look at Yugi's deck of course."

Deciding to enjoy the weekend was a good idea, everybody left the office, leaving Sheppard alone. His juvenile face dropping to a more serious one. While he knew that he can handle all the craziness that is going to be stirring once Will's true idea leaks out to the world, his main concern now was a warning Kaiba sent to him before Will's arrival, one that involves three particular cards buried underneath the island. Cards that are so powerful, that like the Egyptian Gods, had to stay buried, but for a completely different reason.

Well, here is the latest chapter, sorry it took so long. Doing a backstory for an OC is really hard, especially trying to explain why he is the way he is. Also sorry for not giving a name to his oppressors, since they won't be making any kind of comeback. Basically, I was trying to throw in a more human side to my character, and even though the flashbacks are far from perfect, hope I didn't do too bad a job. Read and Review.
