Chapter 10: The Decision
"He WHAT!?" shouted Rouge in surprise, nearly letting her latte fall across her lap.
Amy had called her from the car ride home that Sonic had arranged for her (after nearly leaving the mansion not even realizing that she had been kidnapped originally and had no ride) and although she had original plans of denying his offer, she couldn't help but really have a genuine form of consideration.
After all, she hasn't been working any real job, and along with her heels being returned to her, she can get some extra money on the side for being a 'servant' (his words, not hers), it didn't seem so bad. Besides, if all Sonic wants is to get his parents to stop nagging at him, it doesn't seem like such a bad deal.
But she couldn't help but need her best friend's opinion, which was… what she had expected it to be.
"There's no way you should take that! He's a grown man who needs to take responsibility for his own life! Had I known that Sonic would use that info against you, I wouldn't have said anything about you looking for work!" replied Rouge, nearly spitting into the receiver.
"Yeah, I was wondering why you even told him that…" said Amy as she pinched between her eyebrows.
"Because he called me up asking about me and then he asked about you so casually, I thought we were just having a conversation!"
"Well… It was a hell of a conversation. Because it led to this."
Amy could hear Rouge give a sigh of disappointment, to which Amy knew Rouge regretted her actions. Rouge was close to everyone and didn't think so much of Sonic reaching out and catching up, to which Amy couldn't blame her for that at all. She smiled, closing her eyes to relieve the dryness, "It's honestly okay, Rouge. I think I'm going to go for it. I mean… At first, I thought he was trying to hook up with me, but if it's all for what he says it's for, then I don't think I have anything to worry about, right?"
"Well, yeah it does sound like he just wants his parents to stop bugging him, but are you sure you want to go through something like this? What about your apartment?"
"Apparently he owns the building, so at least I know my rent wouldn't be a problem. I don't know, if it's only for a couple months, then maybe it won't be so bad."
"It's really up to you, girl. I personally feel awful that I got swamped into this and got you involved. I should've known better."
"It's okay, Rouge. I honestly would've thought the same thing. But what's done is done. I think I'm gonna go for it."
"Okay… If that's the case, I'll be sure to keep an eye on your apartment for you. Make sure there's no weirdos scouting the place."
"Thanks, Rouge. And then maybe finally, we'll be over this bridge once and for all. If I do this for him, I won't ever have to see him again."
The drive home consisted of Amy talking to Rouge on the phone, which was a complete break into the normalcy that Amy craved this past week. It was nice to at least have some sort of break from the crazy that had taken a hold of her.
The driver dropped her off in front of her apartment complex, and as she walked on in and into her apartment, she hung up with Rouge and called Sonic's number.
She was sure he'd be ecstatic with the change, but it was always better to hear it from the devil himself.
