Author's Note: I'm glad you're all excited, there hasn't been any 'action' since chapter 1 after all if you don't count the minor Tier Magic usage here and there. Overlord isn't an action-heavy show, but Naruto is, I'm trying to keep a balance that respects both genres.

Here's Q&A now:

Can Ainz use [Dark Wisdom] to learn rituals?

The ability is dependent on a player's corpse to learn a spell. He hasn't been shown to use this ability on any non-player corpse (new worlders). So it is unknown if he can use it on characters from Naruto.

Can YGGDRASIL entities with the [Ninja] Job Class learn chakra techniques?

No, they would still be restricted to the Tier Magic system and wouldn't have any chakra pathways.

Can Ainz eat chakra fruit?

No, he's unable to consume anything due to his race. Furthermore, the chakra fruit only occurred in the Divine Tree, which is the 10-Tails, which is currently split into the nine Tailed Beasts.

Can Ainz become a Jinchuuriki?

No. Not in my story at least. I could give a few reasons, such as him not having chakra, but just going to say no on this one.

Will Shizuka have another lover since Ainz can't give her a child?

I can understand this from a historical viewpoint, but from the character's personal lore, she refuses to love anyone else since her previous lover's death. So not anytime soon.

The Overlord of Nadeshiko

Chapter 9

Around twenty minutes beforehand, Tanya and another genin named Uraku followed closely behind her Jonin Leader, Kluke, who had introduced her to the two other chunin members, Aki and Nina, about a few hours ago when Tanya first arrived. They were alright, but not the professional level that Tanya expected chunin to have, likely Aki and Nina were both recently promoted ninja, but were assigned to help the other genin. The geological survey was proceeding smoothly, Tanya made sure to note any particularities and noteworthy natural resources that Nadeshiko Village could utilize. Lord Ainz would be satisfied with obtaining additional goods for exportation, which meant tax revenue and trade, increasing the general wealth of Nadeshiko. It was a goal that Tanya identified quickly as the purpose for this mission, it was easy to read between the lines, and she approved of it.

The proximity of this area to Nadeshiko Village wasn't far either, at least in the context relative travel speed of a kunoichi. A civilian wouldn't have the training in physical chakra augmentation for use in combat, even if they could use chakra to an extent, and so wouldn't typically be able to match a graduated genin.

Of course, the purpose of additional kunoichi sent to this region was to spread out and survey more quickly. In separate teams, Tanya headed toward the centerpiece landmark with Uraku and Kluke, a massive lake with lingering fog. Not to the scale of being identifiable on a paper map, at close proximity, it was large enough to have difficulty in seeing the treeline on the other side, but the fog made that even more challenging.

In Tanya's opinion, they could do several businesses with the lake, such as creating a decent aquaculture project, although water flora and fauna would need to be checked and examined. The fog, on the other hand, would be a bother, but was probably just a natural phenomenon that would recede after a while.

"Alright," Kluke stopped just before the lake's edge, overseeing its vast size covered in fog. Kluke turned to face her genin, "Do you know the Walk on Water Technique?"

"Yes, ma'am, I have practiced with it," Tanya answered.

"I recently learned it," Uraku was the experienced genin that had lead Tanya and the other two graduates earlier. Again, Tanya's two other team members, the chunin Aki and Nina, were with the others.

It had been difficult to manage, but it was necessary for improving her chakra control over her large reserves. However, Tanya had yet to practice with it enough for it to be second nature, "I still need to concentrate on it, though."

"Then follow me, I'll keep at a slow pace," Kluke said and turned to continue, traversing from ground to water with complete ease, unhindered by the difference in surface.

Tanya followed, she still had to keep control of her chakra with some focus, but as long as there wasn't much in the way of distractions, Tanya kept pace with her new jonin teacher. Still, Tanya was wondering why Kluke wanted to venture out into the lake itself rather than conducting the survey at the water's edge. They didn't have the necessary equipment for underwater surveyance, and a lake this size would undoubtedly be deeper the further inward they went.

Still, an order was an order, and Kluke was her senior.

The fog thickened as they approached closer to the lake center, Tanya maintained her focus but it became progressively easier as the minutes went by, like her body learning to adapt to the use of chakra over a surface of the water.

"Ma'am, how much further- Ma'am?" Tanya stared at the spot that Kluke used to be, the jonin had vanished from sight, only a thick fog remained. She glanced around, trying to spot her senior kunoichi, but found no sign of the woman. "Where'd she go?"

"She had left you behind, nonbeliever."

Tanya quickly turned one-eighty and her eyes widened in shock, surrounded by a variety of objects she'd grown familiar with back on Earth, the figure of her previous male self sat at a desk that remained on the water's surface, staring down at her in disapproval. But the blond girl returned it with a glare, "Being X."

"A lost lamb in fog-"

But she didn't take it, Tanya placed her hands together and disrupted her chakra, "Release!"

In that instant, her previous body disappeared from her view, and Kluke was a little ahead with Uraku and had her shoulder placed on the girl, though now looked back to Tanya.

"Tanya? Did you also get caught in a genjutsu? You got out of it rather quickly, I'm impressed," Kluke complimented.

"It recognized it as an illusion quickly," Tanya replied while catching up to Kluke and Uraku, recalling logically in her final moments that Being X had always used nearby living entities to speak, not calling out mockeries of her prior body or summoning inanimate objects. "Are there enemy ninja nearby?"

"Not that I spot," Kluke said. She crossed her arms, tapping her fingers against one, "Mmh… Perhaps this is not a natural fog, a minor genjutsu might be woven into it."

"I don't recall reading anything that can do that," Tanya replied.

Uraku chimed in, "It's been speculated, seals might be able to do it."

"The world is a vast place, but with the genjutsu, we can now report that the fog is unsafe. There might be something here that's causing the issue," The kunoichi glanced down below, her shadow dim in the fog. "Stand back a bit you two."

Tanya and Uraku backed off a fair distance. Tanya ideally wondered what the jonin would do. She watched as Kluke proceeded to swap through various hand seals at a pace that outmatched Tanya by far, though careful observation could identify which seals were which. An experienced ninja could use fewer hand seals for the same jutsu as another would need the full amount, but that depended on the familiarity with the jutsu, chakra control, and the amount of chakra they'll be able to exhaust.

Kluke finished with the Ram sign, "Water Style: Furious Current Jutsu!"

Many meters away, aimed more towards the lake center, a whirlpool started to form, its size expanding rapidly to cover a fifteen-meter radius, the epicenter plunging downward and disturbing the lake as small waves formed; Tanya kept her chakra control in check to maintain her stance on the water.

But Kluke wasn't finished, she continued to throw various kunai into the whirlpool, each with an explosive tag attached. She finished with another hand sign, "Release."

A dozen explosions launched up large volumes of water, causing greater ripples and waves to spread outward.

Tanya still couldn't understand what the jonin was doing, but she could understand two things.

The fog was beginning to clear a little.

And there was a massive kaiju-sized turtle shell that emerged from the water.

"Ma'am, I think we should regroup!" Tanya adamantly suggested; she did not want to fight a kaiju on her first mission. Curses, why does her first mission have to involve something as insane as a giant monster!?

"Yes please!" Uraku shouted.

"I agree, retreat!" Kluke saw that and from what Tanya could see, was surprised, apparently, a kaiju wasn't what Kluke was expecting to occur. The whirlpool ended soon after, likely cut from its source of chakra.

As the water calmed, Tanya could swear she saw the kaiju's head surface for a bit, its eyes staring at her before the giant turtle submerged itself back into the lake's depths, the displaced water rushing back to fill the gap the monster left behind.

"Retreating with haste," Tanya remarked and booked it the other direction, knowing full well that her jonin followed behind.

But the safety of the opposite direction didn't last, they came into direct conflict with a separate group unfamiliar to either, sailing on a boat, but having taken an active combat stance earlier.

Tanya recognized a man's face from the Bingo Book, Kabuto Yakushi, a rogue ninja from the Village Hidden in the Leaves. This was the worst-case scenario, this man was known to accompany another Bingo Book target, Orochimaru, who was significantly higher on the International targets. While the Bingo Book was from the Land of Water's Mist Village, other villages can add international targets to each land's Bingo Book.

She had memorized the Bingo Book from page to page before she'd graduated.

And they had spotted them.

The blonde genin looked at her jonin leader, "We can't take them."

"They do outnumber us," Uraku further added, unlikely she didn't know the true scale of the situation they were in, but fighting unknown enemy combatants was always a bad idea.

"I know," Kluke had pulled out a scroll, but it wasn't a typical ninja scroll, rather it looked to be made of different material and design. Tanya recognized it as the emergency scrolls given by Lord Ainz. "Toss in the air... " She gave it a toss into the air which unfolded and burned away with a flare of blue flames, "[Message]... Lord Ainz, this is Jonin Kluke, sending an emergency message!" A slight pause. "A large entity lives in the lake, its mist produces a powerful genjutsu effect. We didn't notice it until we started surveying the lake. We retreated after breaking through the genjutsu on two genin, but are now in confrontation with an unknown enemy ninja and kunoichi…. Yes Lord Ainz."

At this point, the enemy was discussing between themselves but did seem to bear hostility towards them, especially from the expressions of the rogue ninja, Kabuto.

"Orders?" Tanya asked.

"We're taking defensive actions," Kluke replied. "If they engage, we'll defend ourselves while trying to flee. You two take priority, I can handle myself, don't worry about me."

It was a weak gesture, but Tanya would have prioritized herself anyway. It should be a no-brainer that an experienced jonin would be able to defend herself, but at the same time, it didn't make logical sense to sacrifice veteran kunoichi to spare greenhorn genin.

But Tanya did not have a complaint, as that genin was her.

"Incoming jutsu!" Uraku pointed toward the only female opponent in a group of four, one appeared to be a non-combatant, which he looked like the same age as Uraku, about fourteen.

"Throw some weapons!" Tanya shouted and started to mold her chakra, swapping through a few hand seals.

Uraku and Kluke threw kunai and shuriken respectively, the latter had more force, but Tanya finished her jutsu's required seals in time. It was the only C-Ranked Ninjutsu in her arsenal, but it couldn't deal direct damage, however, it had a particularly handy effect.

She clasped her hands together, "Wind Style: Gale Palm!" Tanya shouter as the air around her compressed and transformed into a strong gale, which for the lack of a better description, 'pushed' the kunai and shuriken and accelerated them.

There was a good reason why Tanya liked this technique, because it applied the basic fundamental rule of physics, that being mass times acceleration equals tools becoming near bullet speed.

The kunai and shuriken accelerated and sliced or embedded themselves at the enemy, except for the child, who was protected behind a rather bulky and large man, who defended him and the kunoichi. The rogue ninja, Kabuto, on the other hand, took many hits and backed away with a leap.

Unfortunately, the enemy kunoichi finished her jutsu before being hit. However, fortunately, it wasn't one with an instantaneous effect. Not all jutsu could be done immediately upon finishing hand seals, some required certain conditions to be fulfilled, or could have a delayed reaction depending on the terrain.

In this case, it was the latter, the lake's depths created a stall that allowed Tanya and her team to retreat a little before towering vibrant pink crystals erupted out of the water, almost like spikes that tried to pierce and impale their team, but missing thanks to the lapse in judgment.

"Uruka, tags!" Kluke shouted and went through three hand seals, "Water Style: Raging Waves!"

Uruka threw two kunai with attached explosive tags as Kluke's cheeks expanded before she started to spew water from her mouth forward with the strength of a waterfall. The kunai fell into Kluke's jutsu, hidden into the generated current, and the wave impacted against the crystal pillar, splitting into two but causing large ripples in the lake that forced the enemy's boot to be pushed away. Not a moment later, the explosive tags erupted against the crystal, causing large displacements of water along with rising steam creating a smokescreen of sorts.

With the enemy's vision obscured, Kluke signaled a retreat, they would have to take a long way, separated from the other direction where the other Nadeshiko kunoichi would be, but it would lead them away from the battlefield.

Tanya was all too happy to retreat, it seemed that their opposition had been surprised by their presence as Kluke's team been of them. This created a suitable moment whether neither side knew what to do about the others, logically, Tanya's group shouldn't be pursued and might be left alone.

But considering that the enemy had arrived here in the first place, prepared with a waterborne vessel, it was unlikely they would want them nearby.

What a troublesome situation.

With the combination of [Fly] and [Boosted Magic: Haste], Satoru Suzuki, Ainz Ooal Gown, had shortened the traveling time considerably, though it still took him over half an hour to reach the designated region. He had expanded a quantity of mana with the use of the Boosted metamagic, but his mana pool had always been his strongest attribute, bypassing even the limit of most YGGDRASIL Magic Caster players, so it little affected him. While he didn't have the same destructive power as some of his guild members, he had a vast amount of utility for many situations.

He stopped in the sky, his gaze could spot the lake in the distance, another few minutes and he would arrive at that location. But it would be unwise to so carelessly engage the enemy without gathering information, he currently didn't have any leads or key information to use Tier Magic with.

But he did have one keynote, and that was the identification headband of his subordinate. All kunoichi of Nadeshiko had headbands, and he had interacted with Kluke's team beforehand, giving him this advantage. While he could also use the scrolls he'd given them as another advantage, it might be possible they'd been used already.

His hand reached into his inventory, disappearing briefly into a purple void before he pulled out three scrolls. While it was unlikely that the enemy might be using counter methods on the Nadeshiko kunoichi, preemptive defenses must be taken into account. And since he wanted to conserve mana for a future fight now that he'd arrived, he'll use scrolls instead of spells.

Such was the basics of the basics, right, Punitto Moe?

He tossed the scrolls into the air, "[Fake Cover], [Counter Detect], [Locate Object], [Clairvoyance]."

The Tier Magic within each scroll went into effect as it was burnt out with blue magical flames accompanied by various glowing effects that briefly surrounded him. Ainz found the location of Kluke and could visibly see her currently hiding within the bush, possibly scouting out the area. She didn't have any other kunoichi with her, but at least the jonin was not engaged with the enemy anymore.

"Good; Kluke looks to be handling herself nicely, the genin should be elsewhere, probably with the chunin," Ainz assumed. As the [Wraith] he summoned was still connected to him, which he had purposely commanded to flow the graduates.

"Now, time to-" A sharp cracking noise echoed in his proximity, an audio response indicating that someone had tried to spy on him, but had been countered by his anti-divination methods. "Was that in response to my earlier spells? No, otherwise it would've been immediate. This is a different attempt."

Ainz Ooal Gown turned to the direction he felt the target had attempted from. He decided that flying kept him too open and floated back down to the forest floor, deactivating [Fly] upon touchdown.

"Ah, right, I am a leading figure for Nadeshiko," Ainz recalled. "The Elder of War did give me a headband."

He reached into his inventory and pulled forth a Nadeshiko Village headband. It would honestly ruin his aesthetic if placed on his head, and the mask prevented that as well. But wrapping it around his gauntlet's wrist will work just as well, almost like an armband.

"Now, what to do," Ainz thought about it, he could either regroup with his kunoichi subordinates or try a gamble at potential hostilities to gather information. He chose the latter, considering that the kunoichi were lower level than him, they would have to rely on him to gather information more safely. In that case, he'll send some summons to judge his opponents' strength. "[Create Low Tier Undead: Zombie Dog]." And with a mental command, he let his skill be used multiple times at once.

A pack of [Zombie Dogs] appeared out of the ground in response, they would fit into this situation, as their appearance could be described as perhaps some creature affected by a disease, or an experimental jutsu. A skeleton wouldn't be easy to identify as anything other than magic, at least, from Ainz's perspective and his foreknowledge of fiction and current information.

Also, zombie-like rogue ninja did exist, as evidenced in the Bingo Book on a ninja known as 'Kakuzu', who had been described to take hearts from his opponents to sustain himself.

"Go forth, my zombie hounds," Ainz ordered and the packed barked and rushed out in the direction he wished them to head. "[Undeath Slave Sight], [Perfect Unknowable]."

The first Tier Spell allowed Satoru to see one of his summon's own vision in the corner of his eye, almost like a separate window, which is what it would have been back in YGGDRASIL. He would watch the pack leader of the zombies while remaining invisible from most prying eyes with [Perfect Unknowable].

He watched as the [Zombie Dog] and its pack rushed through the forest, there was a fog that hung in the air, but since they were considered part of the [Undead], and were mindless at that, genjutsu or any mind-altering properties would be ineffective. A few minutes passed, but before long, his zombie summons found a group of four ninja that he quickly identified from headbands belonging to the Village Hidden in the Leaves, Konoha.

Now, Suzuki Satoru had recognized from the Bingo Book that not all ninja within it were rogue ninja. It was, after all, a wanted list from the Land of Water's Mist Village, and so it had a bias and targets that other Bingo Books might not have.

Such was the case here, as one face among the four was recognized by him.

The Copy Ninja Kakashi Hatake, an individual known to have a thousand jutsu.

Even Ainz Ooal Gown didn't have a thousand spells under his sleeve.

This made Ainz feel quite wary, but it also confused him. Did their presence have to do with that giant turtle mentioned in Kluke's [Message]? Or was there another faction here that they were pursuing? There was no war between the Land of Fire and the Land of Water, although tensions were high according to Shizuka's knowledge, there shouldn't be any direct confrontations between them. Furthermore, Nadeshiko Village might be neutral by technicality, but it was also under a contract with Kirigakure, the Mist Village.

So attacking a Nadeshiko kunoichi could run the risk of war, something that neither side wanted.

Of course, that is also if that attack was discovered in the first place, they could have meant to kill his subordinate kunoichi before the information was sent out of their presence in what was by law the Land of Water's domain.

He decided to let the [Zombie Dogs] assault the group, to gauge their abilities.

The pack of undead canines, numbering eight in total, erupted and struck with claws and fang. But they were hastily dispatched with ease, a combination of melee attacks and techniques slaughtered their zombie dogs. This was expected, they were only newbie level summons, even if augmented by Ainz's Job Class traits they wouldn't last a minute.

But, the surprise attack did show a few unique points that Ainz took into consideration.

Firstly, a male figure hidden under a covering gray jacket, cloak, and hood, his headband still visible under the hood along with his black glasses. Ainz had identified his ability similar to the [Entomancer] Job Class, as the ninja had used a swarm of insects to eliminate two [Zombie Dogs]. He the least concerning, Ainz had plenty of advantages against that Job Class, immunity against poisons and disease eliminated the typical builds.

Secondly, another male figure, in contrast to the one before he had a wild look to him with red marks on both cheeks and wore a black leather jacket. An interesting point is that a white wolf-like dog had fought as his mount, doing combination attacks against three zombies, shredding through them. Ainz believed this man to have a focus similar to the [Beast Tamer] Job Class, given his use of an animal to augment his fighting capability.

These two individuals' abilities reminded Ainz briefly of Entoma and Aura respectively, though the custom NPCs of Ainz Ooal Gown would be far more impressive.

Lastly, aside from Kakashi, the third member was a kunoichi in a lavender-white bouse. Her eyes had briefly confused Ainz for blindness, but it was clear that she had sight. However, she did not engage the zombies, too busy recovering from some sort of injury near those eyes.

Did she have some sort of visual divination jutsu? It might be possible she was the one that attempted to spy on him. Not enough information to determine and decide with her.

Kakashi, on the other hand, dealt with the remaining [Zombie Dogs] with simple taijutsu and kunai. Ainz did not know any information beyond Kakashi's physical prowess, as the ninja had killed the undead summon that his [Undeath Slave Sight] was applied to.

Regardless, Ainz now had some pieces of information on his possible opponents, he would gain more later. For now, he would regroup with Kluke and learn what she knew about the enemy. There was no need to engage Kakashi's team at the moment.

He turned and walked in the direction Kluke was located.
