A/N: With this story, I want to publish chapters more often, so they will probably range from 1,500 to 2,000 words and be published every 2-3 days instead of waiting for a bigger chapter that would take maybe a week or more. I hope you all are okay with that, I know I want to find out what is happening more frequently than weekly, lol.
Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 7
Jane and Jo Friday arrived at home and Jane got the sense that she needed to slow this situation down with Maura. That almost felt like a date and although she loved spending time with her, Maura was grieving and she needed time to grieve. Jane told herself, 'I need to stay within my hour and not engage past my hour. Okay, maybe a few minutes but not dinner and walking in the park. That was too much like a date and I need to keep my mind focused on me and controlling my anger. A friendship with Maura would be great but not until after my sessions are over.'
Maura was having similar feelings. 'I really like Jane but that felt like a date and I cannot allow myself to get involved with a patient. Jane would be a great friend but not until after I have finished working with her. Jo Friday is just a dream though. I really like her. I guess I better get back to planning the rest of Jane's sessions out and making sure I have printed copies of everything for her.'
The two went about their week. Jane working on the double homicide and Maura setting up curriculum for a forensics class she was asked to teach for BCU and working with the few patients she had as well as consulting with the FBI as a medical examiner. Maura found some of the FBI's cases quite interesting. She loved working with them. There was not a position for her fulltime so she would just stay where she was and doing what she was doing.
When Wednesday came, Jane was almost late for her session with Maura. She walked into the coffee shop at exactly 3:30 PM apologizing to Maura when she saw her sitting there with a coffee and treat for her. "I am so sorry, I got tied up with an interview and wasn't watching the clock. Frost had to gently remind me as we finished the interview. I ran to my car and came straight here." Jane said so fast that Maura motioned for her to sit down so she could catch her breath.
"It's okay Jane, we know that is going to happen from time-to-time. Please, let's just sit here for a minute while you catch your breath."
"Thanks Maura."
"While you catch your breath, I need to explain something. I would like for you to bring your work partners Korsak and Frost to your next session. We should meet in my office for this meeting as it will be a more formal setting for the four of us. I can have coffee delivered if you let me know how they like their coffee. I remember you saying something about how they love coffee just as much as you do. I want them to feel comfortable."
"Okay, I can ask them and let you know if they are willing to attend. I'm sure it will not be an issue as they would like for me to keep my job." They both smiled as Jane finished that statement. Maura was confident that Jane was making progress and that her job would not be threaten.
They gathered their drinks and walked out to the bench to continue their conversation. Maura explained why she needed Jane's partners present at their next session. "I would like to see your work partners to explain some of the next tools to help alleviate your anger. The biggest one is the timeout tool. Just like in a sporting event sometimes you need to call a timeout. Life is like that also, you may be feeling like your anger is rising and you need to stop the conversation to stop your anger from rising out of control so you have a timeout. There are two types of timeouts in this situation: formal and informal. I need for the two of them to understand about the timeouts and how they can help you keep your anger under control. We will come up with a process for your family without involving them. Your partners need to be involved though because it is your desire to keep your job and they are the people that are closest to you at your job and can help you help yourself. Does that make sense?"
Jane thought about it and replied, "Yes, it does make sense and thank you for explaining why you need them to attend a session. I actually spend more time with them they anybody else, so ya they need to know how to help me help myself. I kinda like my job and want to keep it."
"Would you like for me to explain the timeouts to you today or just wait until they are with you so you don't have to hear it twice?"
"I think I can wait. I kinda have a feeling what you are going to say. I have been looking at some of the online programs you told me about. I never knew there was so much information online about anger management. They all seem to use the same basic model but I prefer coming and talking with you as you customize the information to fit my needs instead of just being generalized."
"Yes, that is why you are here in this program. Online programs can be great for basic information but working one-on-one with someone can address specific issues that might come up or that need to be addressed."
"Ya." Jane agreed.
"So, I will table the timeout portion of this conversation until next week." Maura skipped a few slides on her laptop and then closed her laptop and placed it back in her bag.
"So, you are putting the timeout conversation, on timeout, right doc?" Jane said as she smirked at Maura.
"Yes, Jane, you are correct." Maura said as she smiled widely at Jane. Maura didn't laugh although she did find it funny.
They used the remaining time to discuss some of the issues that made Jane angry during the week. They discussed how Jane dealt with the situation and how she could have dealt with the issue more effectively. Jane shared her worksheet with Maura and Maura smiled at how the number of incidents had decreased from the previous week's worksheet.
When their hour was up, they said their goodbyes and they both went back to work. Maura had to type up notes and Jane had to ask her partners to attend her next session with her. She figured at some point she would have to include them so might as well get it over with. She was just happy she didn't have to involve the lieutenant or her mother.
Jane walked back into the bullpen and went right to Korsak's desk and then she called for Frost to come over. When Frost arrived at Korsak's desk Jane said, "Guys, my therapist has asked for both of you to attend my next session with me. Would you be willing to do that for me?"
Korsak was first to reply, "Of course Janie, I would do anything to help you out. I will have to inform the lieutenant so he knows that this is an important meeting."
Frost promptly replied, "I will go where ever you need me to go to help you out Jane. Besides I want to meet this doctor of yours."
"You leave my doctor alone Frost." Jane said pretending to be angry at him, but she couldn't keep up the angry face and broke out into a smirk.
"What? You said she was beautiful! I just want to see for myself. I love to look at beautiful women. I'm a guy Jane, that's what we do." Frost said as Jane playfully punched him on the arm.
"Ya, ya, just don't embarrass me, okay?"
"What? I would never embarrass you." Frost exclaimed.
"Why you two do what you do, I am going to go in and inform Cavanaugh about the appointment. When I get back, we got to get back to work. This case will not solve itself." Korsak stated as he walked over to the lieutenant's office to speak to him. Jane and Frost went back to their desks so they could get back to work, because Korsak was right the case wouldn't solve itself.
Korsak knocked on Cavanaugh's door and he said, "Enter."
"LT, Jane's therapist would like for Frost and I to attend her next session next Wednesday. Do you see any problem with that?" Korsak asked. He had a feeling the LT wouldn't have a problem but he had to ask.
"No, I mean unless you are not in the office but we will do our best to make sure you are available. How do you think things are going with Jane and her anger management?"
"I have seen improvement in her day-to-day activities. She doesn't seem to be as agitated as she was before so I would that is process. It takes time and she had to learn to rethink how she thinks and … well it takes time."
"Yes, I understand. Please tell Rizzoli to tell her therapist yes."
"Thanks LT." Korsak said as he left the lieutenant's office. He walked back to his desk to find Jane and Frost hovering over Frost's computer. "Did you find something?"
"Ya, I think we did." Jane replied. "We were looking at the phone records and they both seemed to calling this one number quite a bit."
"Do we know who the number belongs to?" Korsak asked.
Frost replied, "No, it is a burner but we are trying to track it down. What did the lieutenant say?"
"He said yes, he would make sure we are available. He also asked how Jane was doing? He wants to make sure that this helps you, Jane."
"It is helping. I think that is mainly because of my therapist though. The other therapists I have worked with, I hated to go see them but she is so easy to talk to. You will see when you meet her. She is different than anybody I have ever met." Jane told him. She wanted to tell him that she used to be an assistant medical examiner but she didn't want anybody to know that she had googled her therapist. Maura hadn't shared that much about her being an assistant medical examiner and Jane hadn't asked. That would be a conversation for another day and time.
