Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 9
An hour after they got back to the precinct Frost leaned over and told Jane, "Man, I can't believe how hot Maura is. She is smokin'. You said she was beautiful but she is so much more than beautiful and smart too."
"Yes, Frost she is beautiful and smart and she is my therapist, so don't go getting any plans on trying to start something with her. I need her focused on my treatment and I need to concentrate on this case right now so we should get back to it. I would like to have this case solved before the weekend if we can."
"Yes, solving this case before the weekend would be great." Korsak added. "Do we have anything new?"
"No," Jane replied. "We are still sorting through all the information we have collected to see if we can come up with any leads."
"Well, let's take a break and go to the Dirty Robber for dinner and then we can come back and work on it again." Korsak told the pair. Fifteen minutes later they were sitting at the Dirty Robber with hamburgers and French fries. They were minding their own business when Crowe walked up with some other officers that Jane didn't recognize.
"Hey, Gayzolli, Frost, Korsak, or should I say 'Two Men and a Dyke,' how are you guys? You have time from your murder cases to be hanging out at the robber?" Crowe asked as he stood at the edge of their booth. Jane could feel her anger rising. She was taking deep breaths and trying to ignore his presence. Her fists were starting to ball up, she was pissed.
Korsak replied, "Not that it is any of your business but we are allowed to have a dinner break when we work as you well know."
"Ya, well I am glad I don't have to work murder cases anymore." He stated.
"Well, why don't you and your friends leave us to eat are dinner so we can get back to our case." Korsak told him as he rose to stand between Jane and the other officers, blocking Crowe's view of Jane and allowing Jane to close her eyes and relax a little. Frost who was sitting next to Korsak was ready to get up if needed. Crowe and company just needed to walk away from the booth and leave them alone.
Luckily with Korsak's move Crowe took the hint and left. Not quick enough for Korsak but he did leave but he had to get one more statement in before leaving. "I didn't like working near that dyke anyways, only thing she is good for is sucking my enormous dick."
On that statement Frost rose and said, "Crowe you better leave if you know what is good for you. Don't talk about my partner like that." Korsak put his arm across Frost's torso to stop him from coming any closer. He needed Frost to settle down before things escalated any further. Korsak ushered him back into the booth as Crowe turned and left.
Jane had the presence of mind to pull out her phone and hit record and got most of the conversation recorded. She missed the first part but the second part of the conversation would be presented to HR. It was in Jane's favor that she didn't comment. Crowe was just digging his own grave.
They finished their dinner and then went back to the bullpen. Jane gave her phone to Frost so he could do what he did best. He transferred the recording to his computer so he could email the recording to the HR department. The case against Crowe was ongoing and Frost and Korsak both wrote up statements regarding the incident to accompany the audio recording. They cc'd Cavanaugh as he would need to know about it.
"Janie, I am proud of you for the way you handled yourself at dinner." Korsak told Jane. "You should let the doc know next time you meet with her also. That is an improvement. Before your class I am sure you would have decked him again."
"Yes, Jane. Way to go partner." Frost followed up.
"Well, thanks for having my back guys. I really don't want to relive it so can we go back to work?" Jane asked.
"Ya, but we are sending the audio recording along with a brief statement to HR. They need to know that he is continuing his inappropriate behavior." Korsak informed Jane.
"Okay, but I really don't want to think about him and I will tell Maura next time I see her." Jane said as she opened the file on her desk. She really wanted to get back to working on the case and not think about Crowe and what he said.
Jane was also thinking that she wanted to call Maura and tell her how she handled this situation. She knew that Maura would be proud of her. She took out Maura's business card and sent her a quick email to let her know what happened and how she and her partner's handled the situation. She didn't expect that Maura would reply but rather just discuss it at their next session.
At 11 PM they wrapped up for the evening and went home. They would begin again at 8 AM. They needed fresh eyes to review the possible leads on the case. Jane was surprised to see an email from Maura when she checked her email in the morning before opening up the case file. Maura was in fact proud of how she handled herself and told her as much in the email. Jane smiled, she liked that the doctor was pleased with how she handled the situation and that they had recorded the conversation and sent it to HR.
As Maura read Jane's email, she wondered what was going on with the case against Crowe. She knew she had no way of finding out unless Jane told her but she figured she would check in with HR. After all it was in Jane's best interest so she fired off an email to the HR representative as well. Jane didn't need to be confronted by Crowe when she was having dinner with her coworkers. He was asking for trouble and she was going to see if she could make sure that he was getting into trouble for his actions.
Maura checked her email in the morning before she saw any clients, and again in the afternoon after she wrote her notes from her last client. She didn't have time to check in between but she left it open in case something pressing came in. She occasionally would glance at her computer to see the subject of any emails that had arrived. As the week progressed, she thought that HR wasn't going to respond to her email but they did.
The email read, "Dr. Isles thank you for your concern. We understand that you have an interest in this case being as you are working with Detective Rizzoli however, we are not permitted to comment on the case. Please know that we are following procedures and we do take this matter seriously. Detective Rizzoli should be commended for how she handled this recent incident. Her reaction and handling of this incident speaks to the training that you have provided for her and will continue to provide as she continues her anger management course with you. Thank you for your interest and we commend you for helping Detective Rizzoli, she is a valued member of our Police Department."
Maura smiled when she finished reading the email, not because of the praise that she was given but because of the fact that HR realizes that Jane handled the situation properly. Jane didn't engage with Crowe. She didn't do anything to cause the situation to escalate. Her partners stepped in and handled the situation allowing her to calm down and not go after Crowe like she would have in the past. This was progress. She only had a few more weeks to work with Jane but this was real progress and she was so proud of Jane.
She fired off a quick reply in response to Jane's email to let her know that they would discuss the incident the next time they met and that she was proud of how she handled the situation. Jane smiled when she read Maura's reply to her email. That made her day.
