Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 15
Jane laid there in bed for a few minutes just thinking about how comfortable she felt with Maura. She had never felt this comfortable with anyone before. Even in her past relationships she never had this comfort level. She fell asleep thinking about Maura.
About an hour into her sleep, she had a terrible nightmare. Hoyt had found out about her feelings for Maura and kidnapped her. When Jane appeared to rescue her, Hoyt captured Jane and tied her up on the couch across from Maura. He slid up beside her on the couch and leaned in so he could speak in her ear. He said, "So the doctor here is your latest crush. The things I could do to her. I would have so much fun with her. She is a beauty, one of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. You have excellent taste in women Jane. I positioned you so you can watch me have my way with her."
As Hoyt rose up and walked towards Maura Jane screamed, "No, don't touch her. Leave her alone. I mean it, don't touch her." Jane was squirming in the bed. She felt like she was tied up. She felt helpless, she didn't want anything to happen to Maura. Her voice rose as she shouted, "No, no, no." At this Maura stirred, she felt something was wrong. She sat up and listened. She then heard Jane shout again, "No, don't. Don't you dare."
Maura got up and put on her robe and went to the guest room. She slowly opened up the door and peeked in. Because of the little bit of light coming in from the window she saw that Jane was asleep and figured out very quickly that she was having a nightmare. Maura had never witnessed anyone having a nightmare. She had read about nightmares and how to help someone that is going through a nightmare. She knew she shouldn't wake her, she wanted to comfort her but she stayed in the doorway and just made sure that Jane didn't hurt herself. If it looked as if Jane was going to hurt herself, she would step in to prevent that from happening.
After a few minutes Jane settled down and went back to sleep. Maura could tell that she was sleeping because her breath had evened out. Maura waited a few minutes before she shut the door and went back to her bedroom. She left her door slightly opened in case Jane had another nightmare. It was a few minutes before she fell back asleep. She got up about seven in the morning and made some coffee. She knew Jane well enough to know that she needed coffee first thing in the morning.
Jane stirred smelling freshly brewed coffee. Maura had delivered a cup of coffee to the guest room and set it on a coaster on the nightstand next to Jane. Jane smiled when she opened her eyes and saw the coffee on the nightstand. Maura was so thoughtful. She sat up and drank the coffee and then got out of bed. A few minutes later she was dressed and ready to find Maura and thank her for the coffee.
Jane had headed for the kitchen to rinse out the coffee cup and that is where she found Maura. Maura was chopping up some fruit. As she approached Maura, she said, "Thank you for the coffee. That was such a nice surprise to wake up to."
"It was my pleasure. I remembered that you mentioned that coffee is the first thing you need in the morning to function properly." Maura stated as she smiled widely at her. Jane smiled back as she walked over to the sink to rinse out the coffee cup.
Maura let out a small yawn. She wasn't able to get too much sleep after Jane's nightmare. Jane noticed and asked her, "Are you okay Maura?"
"Yes, just a little bit tired." Maura replied as she yawned again. She covered her mouth but Jane still noticed.
"Oh, I didn't wake you up did I?" Jane asked worried that she might have woken her up. She remembered that she had a nightmare and she knows that she is vocal when she has nightmares.
"Why would you think that you woke me up Jane?" Maura questioned. She was curious as to why Jane would think that she had woken her up.
"I had a nightmare last night and I know I often talk during my nightmares." Jane replied and saw Maura's facial expression change.
"I was concerned about you when I heard you screaming, I was worried. I guess I didn't fall back to sleep like I had hoped." Maura informed Jane.
"Well, it is early, how about you go back and lay down for say another two hours and then we can go for breakfast. I know I could use the additional sleep also." Jane offered.
Maura quickly replied, "Oh, that sounds great, I think I would like to take you up on that offer. Can I ask a favor?"
"Sure, what can I do for you?" Jane said wondering what the favor was.
"Can you lay down with me on my bed. I felt so comfortable last night when you fell asleep on my lap. I know that might sound needy but after hearing you screaming like that, I felt scared. I wanted to lay down next to you and comfort you. I wanted to hold you until the nightmare passed, but I know from my medical journals that you do not want to do anything to wake a person when they are having nightmares."
"Maur, yes, of course if that will help you." Jane smiled. She was drawn to Maura and found that she was very attracted to her.
"I think it will and I like the nickname." Maura smiled back at her. She knew she might have sounded needy but she didn't care at the moment. She needed to feel better and she felt a nap with Jane would help her.
"Oh sorry, the nickname just came out." Jane said as she lowered her head slightly a little ashamed of modifying Maura's name.
"I was serious I liked it, no one has ever given me a nickname that I have liked before. It is so much better than 'Maura the borra' or numerous other names I have been called over the years."
"Well, let's go take a nap and then I will treat you to breakfast at my favorite diner." Jane said as she extended her arm towards the stairs so they could take their nap.
They laid down in Maura's bed and took a nap. When Maura woke up over an hour later, she found that she was cuddled into Jane's side. She smiled and then she pulled away from Jane. She didn't want Jane to feel uncomfortable. Jane immediately missed the comfort of having Maura at her side stirred and rolled over until she laid next to Maura again. It is like she gravitated to Maura. Maura just smiled and closed her eyes.
Jane woke up about thirty minutes later and noticed that she had curled up into Maura. She slowly pulled away and sat up on the bed. Maura missed the heat of Jane's body and woke up. She looked over and saw Jane sitting on the bed. "Are you okay Jane?" Maura asked as she reached over and touched Jane's arm.
Jane put her hand over Maura's and replied, "Yes, I just noticed I had rolled over to you and was cuddling with you. I didn't want you to feel uncomfortable when you woke up."
"Jane, I had woken up earlier and discovered that I had actually moved over to you and cuddled up with you. I moved back over to my side and within a few minutes you moved over to cuddle up with me. I just closed my eyes and fell back asleep. I was not uncomfortable at all. I actually slept better with you cuddled by my side."
"Well, I didn't know how to explain my attraction to you. I have never been attracted to a woman before. I feel very comfortable around you and with you. I find I want to spend time with you."
"Jane, it is okay, I am attracted to you as well. There is nothing wrong with that." Maura stated.
"I am not gay. I least I never thought I was." Jane explained.
"Jane, sexuality is fluid. You are attracted to the person not the sex of the person." Maura added.
"I wanted to kiss you so much last night when we said goodnight. I really did feel as it was the end of a first date." Jane said.
"I would not be opposed to you kissing me, Jane." Maura expressed, she was really hoping that Jane would kiss her at some point. She would have kissed her but she didn't want Jane to feel uncomfortable or push her away. She wanted for Jane to take the next step. She was ready but she wanted Jane to be ready.
"Can we maybe go downstairs and have this conversation. I am a little intimidated having this conversation while we sit on your bed." Jane stated.
"Of course, Jane. If you want to talk about your nightmare, we can do that also." Maura stated as they both rose and made their way to the living room. They sat on the couch and continued their conversation. Jane's stomach growled and Maura laughed. "I guess we better go eat, your stomach is talking."
"Yes, it has a habit of doing that when it is on 'E,' so let's table this conversation until after we have fed ourselves. Can we table the nightmare subject for another time. I am not comfortable talking about that yet. I still have to process it in my mind."
"No problem, Jane. I was just letting you know that I am here for you, whatever you want to discuss with me is fine."
"Thank you, Maura." Jane said as she opened the front door for Maura. As Maura went to pass her Jane gently grabbed her wrist and spun her around to face her. She reached up and caressed her face. Maura leaned into Jane's hand. She felt goosebumps as Jane's hand cupped her cheek. They stared into each other's eyes. Jane could swear that Maura had golden flakes in her eyes. Jane leaned down and kissed her. Maura kissed her back and they stood there for what seemed like a few minutes kissing. When Jane needed to breathe, she pulled away and said, "Sorry, I have been wanting to do that."
"No need to apologize, I wanted you to kiss me. If I had objected, I would have pushed you away and as you know I did not push you away, but rather kissed you back. I would love to continue kissing you but I believe we need to have breakfast before you stomach speaks to us again." Maura stated as she pushed off of Jane and stepped outside of the house.
Jane closed the front door and Maura reached back and locked it. Maura turned around and took Jane's hand as they walked to Jane's cruiser. They both had a huge smile on their face. Jane opened the passenger door for Maura and as Maura buckled up Jane leaned in a gave her a quick kiss before she jogged over to the driver's side and jumped in. The drive to the diner was quiet. Both of them were lost in their thoughts. They had kissed and they both enjoyed it.
When they arrived at the diner Maura almost hit Jane with the passenger door as Jane had run over to open the door for her. They both laughed. Maura got out of the car and Jane grabbed her hand and walked with her into the diner. Jane opened the diner door for her. Jane's favorite waitress was on duty. "Detective Rizzoli, so nice to see you again," the waitress said as she escorted them to Jane's favorite booth.
Jane liked to sit toward the back of the diner facing the door so she could watch who came in and left. The booths had low backs and Jane appreciated that, it made it easier to watch. "Would you like your usual?" the waitress asked and Jane nodded and the waitress turned to Maura and asked, "And for you miss?"
"I will be adventurous and have what Jane is having, thank you." Jane smiled, Maura was displaying a level of trust. She knew what her meal was but Maura had no idea. Jane often came to the diner when she was reading through files on a case and needed to think. Sometimes Frost or Korsak would come with her and sometimes she would come in by herself. Jane motioned for Flora to step over to her. Flora leaned down and Jane whispered to her, "can you make it as healthy as possible for her?" Flora nodded and smiled at Maura and walked away to turn in their order.
Flora, actually owned the diner but she liked to work and greet all the patrons. The diner was open 24 hours a day, so quite often you could find Flora working. She would take breaks as she needed them. She had an office/guest room in the back and she often took naps throughout the day so she would be available for the breakfast, lunch and dinner rushes.
About ten minutes later their food arrived and Maura looked at it. Hers was different than Jane's. "What did you tell her when we placed our order?"
"I asked her to make yours as healthy as possible. So, she used egg whites and low-fat ingredients." Jane informed Maura.
"Is my bacon, real bacon or turkey bacon?" Maura asked wondering about her bacon.
"Knowing Flora, it is turkey bacon, I said healthy and I'm sure she went all out, she loves me. She is like a second mother to me, you know the mother that makes sure I am eating properly and sleeping. She tries to kick me out of here some nights when I am here late. She knows BPD cannot work me 24 hours a day."
"Well, she did a great job of making my meal healthy. I wish she did that for you." Maura said as she smiled at Jane. They had discussed Jane's unhealthy food choices, such as now when Jane had extra bacon. One or two pieces of bacon would have been okay but Jane had six pieces, and it wasn't turkey bacon like Maura's.
"Oh, I would stop coming here if she did that." Jane said and they both laughed because they both knew that Jane was particular about her food. They enjoyed their breakfast and then went for a short walk before hopping in the car and going back to Maura's.
When they got back to Maura's, after they walked through the front door, Maura pinned Jane to the wall and started kissing her. Jane pushed the door shut with her foot. She was surprised by Maura's action. When Maura needed to catch her breath, she apologized. "I'm sorry, I just couldn't wait to kiss you anymore."
"Oh, I have no problem with you kissing me but, I think we need to talk about this and what are intentions are. I don't want to rush into anything. I value our friendship and don't want to ruin it." Jane said as she grabbed Maura's hand. She didn't want Maura to feel like she was rejecting her because she wasn't.
"Okay, let's go to the living room so we can sit down and talk." Maura said and Jane led her to the couch where they both sat. Maura started the conversation. "Jane, I care about you. I have enjoyed spending time with you this past year. I would very much like to date you and for you to be my girlfriend."
"As you know, I have never dated a woman so this is all new to me. I do care about you and I do want to spend time with you. We just need to take things slow and let me adjust and yes, I would like to date you and be your girlfriend." Jane stated and leaned over to kiss Maura.
A few minutes later, Jane's phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and saw that it was dispatch. She answered her phone. "Rizzoli." Dispatch provided some information to Jane and then she said, "Okay, I can be there in about half an hour." She hung up the phone and looked at Maura. "I'm sorry, a high-profile case needs my attention. I have been called into work by order of my lieutenant. I know it is my day off but this happens from time-to-time. I will call you later." Jane said as she stood up and leaned over to kiss Maura.
"Be safe Jane and please call me later, or better yet, come over. I don't care what time it is." Maura said as she grabbed Jane's hand to make sure Jane heard her. Jane nodded.
"I will check in with you later." Jane said as Maura nodded back to her and then she left. She would be sure to call Maura as soon as she could.
