Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 21
Monday evening after Frank got home from work he walked in the kitchen and began a conversation with his wife while she prepared their dinner. "Ang, what are we going to do about Janie and her friend?" Frank asked his wife.
"Nothing, and her friend's name is Maura. Janie is happy and I for one am happy that she has found someone that makes her happy. Are you going to deny that our daughter is happy?" Angela asked her husband as she put their dinner in the oven.
"No, I will admit that she did look happy. I haven't seen her like that, not even with Casey." Frank admitted, it was true but he still knew in his heart that it wasn't right, it was against God's wishes.
"That's because no one has made her feel that way before. There is something special about this woman that makes Janie a better version of herself, a happier one." Angela said with great pride. She was so happy that her Janie had found someone to love and that would love her back.
"The Church says that it isn't right to enter into a same-sex relationship. Janie should follow her beliefs that the Church has taught her." Frank was adamant.
"Janie is following her heart. For years she followed what the Church said and she wasn't happy. She dated men, not many but enough. Even with Casey, who we thought she loved, she wasn't this happy. With Maura she is genuinely happy. She is smiling more. That woman loves her so much and I believe Janie loves her just as much. I think we need to stand by her and support her. She is our flesh and blood. She is our only daughter and I love her no matter who she loves. She said it and I believe it, love is love." Angela looked at her husband wondering what was going through his mind. They had moved to sit down in the living room and he was just staring at her.
"I need time to think about all of this. I do love Janie but I believe in our Church and I just need time Angela. I do love Janie but this is, well, something that I have to think seriously about." Frank didn't know what to think. He was confused and felt so much conflict in his heart. The Church had always been good to him and his family. He had always been a member of the Church and swore that he would raise his family in the Church and follow the Church's beliefs.
"Well, I have already told Janie to bring Maura back for Sunday dinner so you have the rest of this week to make peace with how you feel about things. Please don't make our daughter choose between us and Maura. She loves Maura and if you make her choose, I am afraid you will lose her. She is that happy." Angela looked at her husband and he was still confused. She would just let him be. She knew that if she had to choose, she would choose Janie, because that was her baby and she loved her more than the Church.
The timer went off and Angela went back to pulling their dinner out of the oven. They ate in silence and Frank went to watch TV while Angela cleaned up their dinner dishes.
Jane and Maura had arrived at the crime scene. Another murder linked to their high-profile serial killer case. Jane was wondering when this nightmare might end. The scoured the crime scene very carefully looking for any possible evidence that would help them captured the murderer. Frost had gone over to the bushes to vomit after seeing the body and stumbled on something. He took out a glove and picked up the item. It was a small box of syringes. He called Jane over to look at the box. Jane was happy. The murderer had made a mistake, maybe, just maybe there would be additional items at the scene.
They spent additional time carefully looking at the crime scene after the body had been taken away. Maura went with the body but Jane felt it would be worth their time to scour the crime scene a little more carefully. It paid off, they found a pair of tan latex gloves and a Tyvac suit tucked away in some bushes a couple hundred feet away from the crime scene. Jane told herself, 'now we are getting somewhere.'
They bagged all the evidence and went back to the precinct to have the crime lab run tests on the items. Maybe they would get lucky and get some DNA.
Several hours went by and Maura had completed the autopsy. The results were the same as all the other victims. They were now waiting for the results from the latex gloves and Tyvac suit that was found at the crime scene. It might be hours before they had the results.
Maura's cell phone rang. She answered her phone "Dr. Isles."
"Dr. Isles this is Gina from Governor Butler's office. He would like to meet with you tomorrow if you are available."
Maura was surprised, "Yes, of course I am available. What time would he like to see me?"
"Can you meet him for an early lunch at 11 AM? I can email you the name of the restaurant."
"Yes, that would be great." Maura responded.
"Thank you. You should receive an email from me in less than half an hour. If you do not receive it, please call me back and I will provide the information to you, I still have to make the reservations otherwise I would give you the information right now. Please forgive me as I was supposed to call the restaurant before I called you. I normally do not make mistakes like this and if the Governor found out he might be unhappy with me." Gina informed Maura.
"Oh, please Gina, it is our secret, don't worry. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!"
"Thank you, Dr. Isles. The Governor speaks very highly of you. He said, and I am not sure if I am supposed to tell you this but he said, you are the best medical examiner he has ever seen."
"Well, that is nice to hear, thank you, Gina."
"I will email you later with the luncheon information, have a great day Dr. Isles."
"Thank you, Gina. I look forward to receiving the email." With that the call was disconnected. Maura immediately called Jane.
"Hey Maur, what's up." Jane said as she answered the phone.
"The Governor's office just called and he wants to have lunch with me tomorrow." Maura told Jane.
"That is great, maybe he wants to offer you a job."
"That could be, his assistant, Gina said that he said that I was the best medical examiner he has ever seen. So maybe he might offer me a job."
"One could hope, babe. Frost and I were just heading out, I will keep my fingers crossed." Jane said, she was hopeful that things were looking up for Maura and her job prospects. The fact that the Governor wanted to have lunch with her and with what the assistant had said gave her a great feeling about the situation. Her gut was telling her that Maura would be offered a medical examiner position. Hopefully with BPD and Dr. Pike would leave. One could hope.
"Thank you, Jane. I will talk with you later." Maura said, she would love to continue her conversation with Jane but she knew that Jane had to get back to work.
"Okay, babe. I will let you know when I am back in the office."
"Okay, be careful." Maura always told Jane to be careful.
"Always." Jane hung up the phone and left with Frost. It was after 9 PM when Jane got back to the office. She called Maura to see where she was. "Where are you babe?"
"At home, I didn't want to go back to my place all alone but you weren't back yet. I was hoping to convince a certain homicide detective to come to my home and share my bed."
"Did you want me to ask Frost for you?" Jane laughed as she said it, she knew Maura would laugh also as Jane was the only person she wanted in her bed and Jane knew it.
"No, I want you, only you. So, are you able to come over and play?" Maura smirked as she said it. She knew Jane couldn't see her but she knew her voice had a little sexy tone to it. Jane liked when her voice got a little more playful. It did things to her insides she didn't even want to think about until the doctor was in her arms.
"Why doctor, I think that is the best offer I have had all day. I will be there in less than half an hour." True to her word, less than half an hour later she was walking in the front door.
"Upstairs." Was the only word Jane heard as she took off her boots and secured her gun and badge. She went upstairs to find Maura in a sexy negligee laying on the bed. Maura rose to a setting position and held out a box and said, "Move in with me."
Jane couldn't take her eyes off of Maura. She just stood there in a daze.
"Jane, did you hear me?" Maura asked as Jane shook her head.
"What?" was all Jane said as she continued to stare at Maura.
"Jane, you are staring at me, are you alright?" Maura asked a little concerned Jane was not being herself.
"Huh!?" Jane said as Maura got up off of the bed and walked over to Jane and pulled her into a hug.
Maura pulled away from their embrace and said, "Jane, I asked you to move in with me. What do you say? Care to live with me and go to bed with me every night and wake up with me every morning?"
"Yes! I would love that. Sorry that negligee is really something I guess I zoned out a little." Jane replied as she pulled Maura back into her and began kissing her all over every inch of skin she could with Maura snuggled up into her.
"I thought you might like this. I ordered it online and it arrived this afternoon." Maura answered in between kisses.
"I like it very much. Do you know what I would like better?" Jane said as she pushed away from Maura a little so she could look into her eyes.
"What?" Maura asked, kind of knowing what Jane might say.
"To see how it would look on the floor by the bed." They both laughed and Jane proceeded to help Maura out of the negligee at the same time Maura was undressing her. They kissed and Jane pushed Maura onto the bed once they were both fully undressed.
