Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 31

When Jane and Maura arrived home, they immediately went upstairs. Jane secured her gun and badge. She took off all of her clothes and climbed into the bed. She didn't say a word. Maura joined her after a trip to the bathroom to remove her makeup. Jane hadn't even had her morning cup of coffee yet.

By the time Maura crawled into bed Jane was fast asleep. She knew her detective was tired. The emotional morning just took a toll on Jane. It was good that she was asleep. Maura snuggled up to Jane and closed her eyes. Within a few minutes of listening to the steady beat of Jane's heart she was fast asleep. She didn't wake up again until almost two in the afternoon, she was surprised. Jane was still asleep so she got out of bed and went downstairs to make some coffee and something to eat. She knew Jane would be hungry when she woke up.

About 3 PM Jane came downstairs looking for Maura. She found her sitting on the couch reading one of her medical journals. "Hey, Maur, I thought you were going to be next to me when I woke up?" Jane stated.

Maura looked up from her journal just as Jane laid on the couch placing her head in Maura's lap. Maura closed her journal and ran her hands through Jane's unruly black hair. "I woke up at 2 PM and couldn't stay in bed any longer. I knew you needed your sleep so I let you sleep. This morning was very emotional for you, so I decided to come down and just read while I waited for you to wake up."

"Well, I missed snuggling with you." Jane admitted. She knew she slept better when Maura was at her side.

"I did also. I wished I could have just stayed in bed. Once I woke up though I would have tossed and turned and woke you. I have made some sandwiches. Are you hungry?"

"I'm always hungry Maur, you know that."

"Okay love, I will get you a sandwich and a water."

"Can I have a beer? I know it is early but I feel like I deserve one after putting up with Crowe this morning. I never want to see that ass again. I'm not going to have to appear in court, am I?"

"Yes, you can have a beer and as far as court, I don't know."

Jane rose and offered a hand to Maura so they could share a late lunch. Maura pulled the sandwiches out of the refrigerator as Jane grabbed some placemats and napkins out of the cupboard. They just sat at the kitchen island and ate lunch. Maura decided to have a glass of wine being as Jane was having a beer with lunch.

Just as they were finishing lunch, there was a knock at the door. Maura went to answer the door and saw Frost, Korsak and Frankie. She invited them in. They all went out to the living room. It was after 4 PM now so Maura offered beers to all the guys and asked Jane if she needed another.

They all gladly accepted a beer and when Maura returned, they filled them in on what Nick had told them earlier. Frost was so excited he couldn't wait to tell Jane and Maura.

"Nick's team found out all about Nurse Jackie and how all of sudden she had a son. They had moved to a rural part of Northeast Massachusetts and she tried to carve out a new life for her and her son. Her money ran out fast and by the time her son started kindergarten they were dirt poor." Frost was telling them everything that Nick had said. He paused to take a sip of his beer and then continued.

"They lived in a low-income housing area. Jackie knew she couldn't be a nurse again so she took a lower paying nurse assistant position at a nursing home. She got in with the wrong type of people and started doing drugs. What little money she made went to her drug habit. She started leaving the boy home alone a lot with hardly anything to eat. She became a prostitute to try and earn some extra money."

"At the age of seven, her son, that she named William and called Billy, started bullying kids at school. He got suspended many times for fighting. He continued bullying others all the way through elementary, middle and high school. They moved often as he got suspended or expelled from school. Jackie didn't know what to do with him. At the age of thirteen she enrolled him in a tough love type of military school hoping it would help him but he just got in with a rougher crowd and started doing drugs himself."

"He had attended seven different high schools before he finally dropped out at the age of sixteen. He ran away from home and wanted nothing to do with his mother. That lasted about three days and then he was back. At least his mom offered him a roof over his head. He worked as a bagger at a grocery store for about three months until he was caught stealing food. He lived a terrible life compared to his sister."

"When Jackie passed away, Nick's people stated that Billy went through all of her stuff and found his adoption paperwork and birth certificate. Also, in the group of documents was his death certificate and a news clipping about his death. Jackie also had news clippings about his twin sister from over the years. All of this information was found spread out on her dining room table. They think that finding out all of this set him off. He was obsessed with finding his twin sister. They are continuing to put everything together and we are in the process of tracking him down now."

"Wow!" Jane stated, "That is quite the recap Frost. I think that is great that we know how a name of the missing twin brother and hopefully he can be found soon."

"Yes, it would be nice to have this case behind us." Maura stated.

Korsak spoke up, "So now we just have to gather up as much evidence as we can and put a case together against him. Nick's people are searching for him and will let us know when they find him."

"Man, that sounds like something we should be doing." Jane said.

"Yes, Jane normally we would but they have connections that we do not have and have been great at finding out this information on Billy. Cavanaugh said to let them continue." Frankie added.

"So tomorrow we are going to start at the beginning and build the case and make sure we have the evidence to back us up. We might have to do some more digging to get evidence to back up Nick's theory about Billy going after his sister. We still don't know why he killed seven people including his sister." Korsak stated.

"We wanted to share with you and not make you wait until tomorrow. This way we can hit the ground running tomorrow morning. So, you wanna watch the game tonight? Maura what do you say, can we hang out here tonight and watch the game with you guys?" Frost asked as he gave his version of puppy dog eyes. Maura had never seen Frost give her his puppy dog eyes and she smiled so widely at him.

"Of course, Barry. I think that sounds like a great plan." Maura said as she looked at Jane who had a huge smile on her face. Her smile let Maura know that she would very much love to have the guys stay and watch the game with them. Maura having been trained as a therapist knew that face-to-face social interactions are great for relieving stress and so she didn't hesitate to agree to an evening with the guys in the safety of their own home.

"Thanks, babe, I love you." Jane whispered to Maura after she walked over and sat in her lap. The guys were quite use to this behavior from the badass detective and her doctor. "Maur, do you think we can have pizza for dinner?"

Maura looked at the men who all looked at her with smiles and a 'please' look on their face. "Yes."

"Thanks baby. Frankie, order the pizzas." Jane instructed her younger brother who just gave her a look like 'what the heck.'

"Wait, why do I have to order them?" Frankie questioned his older sister. "You can take your phone out just as easy as I can and order them."

"Because I want Maura to stay right here and not lift another finger to make you guys feel comfortable. She deserves a break, it has been a very hectic day."

"Right, okay, calling for the pizzas now. I see how you assume that Maura would have been ordering the pizzas instead of you."

"Thanks, little bro." Jane said as she nuzzled into Maura's neck and kissed her. Maura smiled and whispered 'thank you' to Jane. "Maura stated earlier she didn't want me to do anything tonight so I am simply following 'doctor's orders."

Frankie laughed at her and threw a pillow at her and hit Maura with it. He had aimed at the side of Jane that didn't have Maura attached but he misjudged and hit Maura square in the stomach. Jane gave him a 'don't mess with Maura' look and Frankie quickly got up and said he had to use the restroom.

Twenty minutes later the pizzas arrived and they all enjoyed the pizza, each other's company and the game. By 10 PM everyone had left and Jane and Maura found themselves alone again. Frankie and Frost had cleaned up before they left, which Jane and Maura both appreciated.

A little bit after 10 PM they were cuddled up in bed showing their appreciation for each other. That was Jane's favorite activity, she loved making love with Maura. She vowed to herself that she was going to marry this woman one day. After a few hours they were both physically exhausted and fell asleep in each other's arms.
