Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 32

Jane groaned with the ringing of the alarm clock. She didn't want to get up but then she remembered that they were so close to closing the case. Jane had a strange look on her face. She normally didn't wake up when the alarm went off. She normally fussed and Maura had to coax her into waking up. She normally asked for 'five more minutes.' Maura had sat up and looked over at Jane. "Jane, honey what is with that look on your face?"

Jane sat up and gave Maura a quick kiss and then replied, "Oh, I was just thinking we might actually be so close to closing this case."

"Yes, I hope we will be able to wrap it up today or tomorrow. If Nick and his team find Billy soon, then we can wrap it up."

"And then we can concentrate on your parent's visit. I am looking forward to meeting them."

"Love, let's get up and take a shower and then we can get to work and start the case review."

"Wait, you're going to let me take a shower with you on a work day?" Jane asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes, if you get up now."

Jane was up before Maura and went into the bathroom and turned the shower on so the water can heat up.

"Thanks, love, I didn't know you could move so fast in the morning before you have your coffee."

"For you Maur, I can move very fast without coffee." Jane said as she checked the temperature and then climbed in the shower.

"That is good to know." Maura said as she joined Jane in the shower and was immediately embraced with long tone arms. Jane put the shampoo in her hair and washed her hair. Maura couldn't reach up to Jane's hair because Jane's arms were in her way so she decided to start washing Jane's body. She knew they didn't have a lot of time but she wanted to enjoy Jane's company in the shower. It would probably be another long day today.

They only spent 20 minutes in the shower and then they had to get out and get dressed. Jane was quicker at getting dressed so she went downstairs and started making the coffee. She got their travel cups down as she knew they would have to take the coffee to go. Maura came down the stairs ten minutes later looking like a runway model. Jane couldn't believe how she could do that every day. "You look so beautiful Maur."

"Thank you, Jane." Maura said as Jane passed her her jacket and travel mug of coffee. She grabbed her purse and they were out the door.

They arrived at the precinct a few minutes before eight. Maura went down to her office to secure her purse and jacket and then went to the conference room. Jane went straight to the bullpen to secure her blazer and gun. They didn't wear their guns while in the building. The conference room was right outside the bullpen. Nick and his key investigator, a man by the name of Gregory Cutler, were already in the room with a fresh cup of coffee from the coffee shop a few blocks away.

When Maura arrived, introductions were made and then Lt. Cavanaugh went over a few things and then turned the floor over to Jane to brief everyone. He had known that Korsak and Frost had already caught Jane and Maura up on what happened yesterday after they left. Jane was the lead detective and he didn't want to interfere with her process.

"Thank you, Lieutenant. We are all up to speed as of 3 PM yesterday so I would like to ask Nick, can you please update us on anything that your team may have discovered since you left at noon yesterday."

"Thank you, Jane. Will we managed to locate Billy and he has been arrested along with about ten other individuals in a raid of a crack house in Roxbury. We are having him moved here this morning and by 10 AM he should be available for questioning."

Jane closed her eyes and sighed louder than she thought as everybody looked at her. When she opened her eyes she said, "Sorry, that is just a relief."

Nick continued, "Yes, Jane it is."

Greg Cutler than took over and stated, "Right at this time the only charges against him are for possession of a controlled substance. He was found with heroin. He is on heroin right now so until he comes down from his high, he will not be that willing to talk to us. Actually, he probably won't want to talk to us at all. We figured you can add charges as you see fit after talking with him."

Jane couldn't wait for Billy to be transferred to HQ BPD. She wants to talk to him. Meanwhile she had to wait. They start their review of what they had. Line by line they review the timeline and discuss what evidence they have, or need. This process took hours. They have called in several other detectives to retrieve the evidence and make sure it is secured.

Jane was getting excited, they are getting closer to wrapping this all up. There biggest question they had remaining is why kill seven women. If he wanted to kill his twin sister, why did he kill the other six women. That question will have to wait.

When Billy arrived and was put in the interrogation room the first thing he said after Jane and Frost introduced themselves was, "Lawyer. I want a lawyer."

"Shit, I was hoping to get in a question or two before he lawyered up." Jane told Frost.

"Yeah, that would have been nice. I guess we need to wait until the public defender arrives." Frost admitted, "So shall we go to lunch while we wait?"

"Yes, let me see if Maura is available." Jane said and then sent a text to Maura after the nod from Frost. He loved spending time with the doc also and didn't mind if she joined them. Five minutes later they left the building with Korsak's request for a to go order. They knew it would be an hour or two before the public defender's office sent someone over.

"Maura, Jane tells me that your parents are coming to town soon." Frost asked trying to make small talk that didn't have anything to do with work. This was their chance to free up their minds and relax a little bit.

"Yes, they want to meet Jane and of course visit with me. It has been over a year since I have seen them. Actually, I haven't seen them since I moved to Boston. I normally see them about once a year sometimes twice so we are overdue for a visit." Maura informed him.

"Where do they live and why don't you see them more?" Frost asked curious as to why she didn't see her parents more often.

"They live in Paris and have been quite busy lately. Mother has had several art installations in Paris and New York and daddy is still doing his archaeological digs in Africa." Maura smiled as she said that. She was proud of her parents. She missed them when they weren't around but she knew they were enjoying their work projects. Her mother taught an occasional course at one of several universities, which included BCU from time-to-time. They maintained a house in Boston for that reason.

"My father is taking time off from his dig to come join mother for a visit. I think if they weren't meeting Jane, he would have stayed in Africa, but mother insisted that he join her on this trip, so he is flying in right after her arrival. It is surprising that their flights are within an hour of each other."

"I am looking forward to meeting them." Jane said. Frost looked at her to see if she was telling the truth and from what he could tell she really was looking forward to meeting Maura's parents.

"That is great. I hope we don't get another case before they get here." Frost tossed that out there and Jane gave him a look.

"Don't jinx it man. We just about got this case wrapped up and I know Cavanaugh will be giving us time off. He already cleared time off for Maura with the Governor as well as she has been working just as hard as we have." Jane stated.

"Sorry. I was just stating a fact, partner." Frost said as he raised his shoulders up.

"I know and I didn't mean to snap. I am just ready to have a few days off. I feel that much better knowing that Crowe is in jail also. I knew he couldn't stay away from me. He has been bugging me for years."

"In a way it is kinda good that you punched him or you wouldn't have met Maura."

"Yeah, that is true but now that I am with her, I don't want to deal with the likes of him. She was a great anger management teacher, and still is." Jane smiled and leaned over and gave Maura a kiss on the cheek.

A smiling Maura said, "Thank you, Jane. You were a great student, I am proud of how you handled that last interaction with him."

"Okay, okay, let's change the subject. I don't want to think about that ass." Jane closed her eyes and then opened them quickly.

"Language Jane." Maura smiled as she reached for Jane's hand and squeezed it.

"Sorry, he brings it out in me."

They finished their lunch and went back to the precinct. The public defender had arrived as was speaking with his client when they got back from lunch. Jane gave them a few more minutes before she knocked on the door. The public defender allowed for the interrogation to take place. She presented what evidence they had and the public defender and Billy whispered back and forth and Billy then confessed.

Jane couldn't help but ask her biggest question after he confessed to all seven murders. "Why did you kill six other women if you just wanted to kill your twin sister?"

He looked at her and simply stated without any remorse, "I don't like women. Because of the bitch that stole me I lived a terrible life and went to seven different high school and moved just as many times. Seven seems to be a number that has been tied to me. That bitch, Jackie, kept telling me that since the age of seven I have been a disgrace to her and she deserved better. But yet she had me live in all those hell holes. Her boyfriends, beat me when she wasn't around. Then I find out I had a twin sister who lived a perfect life. I could've had a perfect life if that bitch had left me alone."

Jane thought about it as they took Billy out of the room with the added charges of seven first-degree murders, they don't know what kind of life he would have lived because he would have been with the adoptive parents had they not been killed in the car accident shortly after his abduction.

Jane did discover with Nick's help that Jackie had murdered the adoptive parents so she could take Billy from them. They had let her babysit for them and had gone out to dinner and that is when she decided to have them killed in an automobile accident.

The detectives working on the kidnapping ring had put all the pieces together and were adding charges to Gail's prison sentence. With all the baby kidnappings that she had been participating in she would spend the rest of her life in prison.

By 5 PM they had everything wrapped up and Cavanaugh said they could have a week off. Jane and Maura both asked for another week off on top of that as Maura's parents would be in town for two weeks and they wanted to spend time with them. Cavanaugh approved the extra week.

After getting the extra leave approved, the ladies went home and took a long hot bath together. Maura stopped at the refrigerator and grabbed a bottle of wine and a few beers for Jane as well as a cheese and cracker tray that she had made up. Jane went to get the bath ready.

Well, the bath wasn't as long as they would've liked as the water started getting cold. They promptly removed themselves and their remaining beverages and snacks and went to bedroom to partake in other pleasures.

"Maur, I really think we need to add a mini frig to our bedroom." Jane said as she thought about the cheese and beverages that would be sitting and waiting for them while they made love.

"I think so also love. Right now, I want us to continue to show each other how much we love each other." They had two days to enjoy each other's company before Constance and Arthur arrived and that is exactly what they did.
