Chapter 12: "Religion"

(Year: X779)

"Hey, Roshi!" A girl's voice called above Roshi as he reclined beneath a large tree in the church's courtyard, "Wake up, you old fart!"

Roshi peaked an eye open and peered up at Fu, "Hey, kid. Don't you know that one of this church's main decrees is that you respect your elders?"

"I only respect people that aren't pathetically lazy," Fu grumbled as she flopped down next to the red haired man.

"Well, then leave me alone," Roshi mumbled as he looked up to the leaves swaying in the wind, "I didn't ask you to bother me."

Fu threw Roshi an annoyed glance, "Yes, you did. You contacted my guild for an official mission and everything."

"Yeah, but you're not supposed to be here for at least a week," Roshi argued as he nonchalantly crossed his legs in case Fu got mad and went for where it would hurt the most.

"You sent out the mission request last week," Fu huffed and also looked up the leaves above them.

"I did? Damn, that means I'm a week older than I thought I was. Time just flies by, I guess," Rosh reached a hand up to his face and rubbed his temples. Then, with his other hand, he grabbed the jug by his side and took a swig of the liquid within.

"Of course it does when you spend half your time in a drunken stupor," The mint haired girl snorted, "Should you even be drinking here? This is a church after all."

"Says the girl dressed more provocatively than a fifteen year old girl should," Roshi mumbled, "Back in my day, girls had some modesty."

"What are you talking about?" Fu looked down to her clothes. Her sleeveless light purple shirt had fishnet underneath it and showed her toned stomach and guild mark on the left side of her abdomen. Her purple skirt was short, but the black tights and fishnet that hugged her thighs made to so that no one could get an eyeful, "Compared to Mirajane and Erza, I'm the definition of modest. Both of them don't care if they flash some skin. Besides, not everyone can wear those dumb white robes."

"But they're comfortable," Roshi argued before taking another swig of his drink.

"So's mine," Fu argued, "Fishnet feels so good once you get used to it."

"Yeah, yeah," Roshi waved her off, "Look, I'm tired of dealing with you. Go entertain yourself why don't you?"

"Oh, but I did," Fu gave him a devilish grin.

Roshi instantly sat up and gave her an alarmed look, "Oh Kami, what did you do?"

"Nothing. Nothing at all…"

Boom! An explosion of various paint colors splattered all across the other side of the massive church compound. The two jinchūriki watched as paint rained down on the white marble of the church.

"Well, I might have planted paint bombs," Fu conceded, "But it was only to make the church more interesting and colorful. Pure white is so boring."

"Ugh…Damn Fairy Tail mages…" Roshi slumped down in despair, "And you're going to make it so I have to clean it all up, won't you?"

"Yep!" Fu cheered, "That's what you get for forgetting when I was coming. Now tell me, what job did you want me to do?"

"I can't tell you yet," Roshi grunted out, "We're still waiting for two more people. Number 1 and Number 9."

"This was not what I was expecting," Gaara admitted as he and his friend stood outside the open gates of the church.

"I agree," Naruto nodded, "It's more colorful than I imagined."

Both of the jinchūriki were surprised to see that the Church of the Rabbit Queen was colored like the rainbow. They couldn't even begin to name all the colors they saw. Oddly enough, the paint seemed fresh too.

"Hey," Gaara looked towards the entrance of the church and saw a familiar Fairy Tail mage, "Isn't that Fu?"

"Well…" Naruto shook his head as the two of them walked into the church compound, "That explains the colors then."

They walked up to the steps of the church and saw Fu giving puppy dog eyes to the various members of the church. Her eyes were wide, and her lips quivered. A sliver of a tear peaked out of her right eye, "I-I'm so sorry! I-I was just trying to make this place look pretty."

Shocked by her cuteness and sad look, the church members quickly began to apologize and wave off her actions.

"It's okay! It's okay!"

"Please don't cry!"

"We'll just have Roshi clean it up!"

Roshi groaned as he continued to lean against the railing for the steps, "Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap. Every time you come here it's the same thing. Why must you make my life miserable?"

With a quick change in attitude, Fu whirled around and gave Roshi a beaming smile, "Well, maybe if this place was more entertaining…"

"That's not fair, Fu," Naruto spoke up and drew the attention to them, "No place besides your guild hall meets your standards of entertaining."

"Naruto! Gaara-kun!" Fu waved at them and bounced down the steps, "It's good to see you!"

"Gaara-kun?" Gaara raised a non-existent eyebrow.

"Um…did I say that?" Fu blushed and looked away, "I meant Gaara-baka. A slip of the tongue. Really…Don't give me that look…Seriously, stop it…I will drop kick your face!"

"Fine. Whatever. Not like I care anything," Gaara shrugged, "I'll stop looking at your cute face."

"What?" Everyone looked to Gaara. In response, the red head's lips began to twitch. His face gained the tiniest bit of coloring. Without a word, he turned and began to walk away.

"Hey! Stop that!" Fu began to stomp after him, "You always do this! You just walk away without a word! What did you mean by cute?"

Gaara was silent as he walked away.

"Answer me, damn it!"

He still didn't say anything.

"Gaara!"

Silence.

"Are they always like that when they get together?" Roshi questioned as he stepped beside Naruto.

"Pretty much. Gaara doesn't like getting flustered, and Fu flusters him pretty easily. So he usually just walks away. Then Fu chases after him. That's how it's been since they met," Naruto stated, "Personally, I think they should just get a room and get over it."

"Ah, young love. It causes a lot of awkwardness," Roshi took another swig of his jug of sake, "Hell, I've never seen that gaki look so flustered and embarrassed. I didn't think that she could be embarrassed. It's a nice change of pace."

"So you met Fu before right?" Naruto questioned, "She was the one that originally told me about your being at this church."

"The High Priestess wanted to meet the jinchūriki that were in the official guilds," Roshi groaned and tilted his head to the side, "She's hired them for odd jobs to watch how they act. Yugito was pretty normal, and Killer Bee is…nice enough forgetting the terrible raps. But I think she's really taken a shine to Fu. That bug girl does bring some energy to the place."

"Well…She definitely brings her own form of entertainment," Naruto gained an amused look, "Plus, I do like seeing Gaara look so confounded."

"It is an amusing sight…" Roshi laughed and extended a hand. He looked to the whisker marks on the blondes face and instantly knew which container he was talking to, "Nice to meet you, Number 9. My name's Roshi. I'm the container for the Yonbi."

"Naruto. It's a pleasure, Number 4," Naruto shook Roshi's hand.

"Really? Because I was a little hurt that you never once came here to check up on me," Rosh gave a lazy grin as he pulled his arm back.

"I heard enough about you to know that I didn't have to worry about you," Naruto shrugged, "You didn't seem motivated enough to lift a finger, let alone destroy anything.

"Harsh…but true," Roshi snorted but then gained a saddened look, "And yet I'm the one that always has to clean up the messes. All because I 'laze around too much' and 'have unhealthy drinking habits' and shit like that."

"Well…I'm not really the type of person that can judge someone, but…" Naruto frowned, "That does sound kind of bad for a person that lives at a church."

"That's what everybody says," Roshi grunted out, "But that doesn't mean I deserve to be abused."

"I would hardly call it abuse, Roshi. Everyone here has to do their own fair share of work, but considering the occasion, I'll let you off the hook this one time."

Everyone, even the retreating forms of Fu and Gaara paused when water droplets splashed across the painted marvel. The water shifted around and swirled for a few brief seconds. Oddly enough, the water stuck to the walls and floors very closely, almost like they were hugging the marble. Then, after the paint came off, the water droplets removed themselves from the marble and rose high into the air. The water then collected into one giant orb of colored paint and water.

The female voice from before spoke up once again, "I loved your new prank, Fu, but this church's traditional color is white, so I must purge the colored paint from the compound. Do forgive me."

Naruto turned and saw the owner in of the voice. She was a woman only slightly shorter than him and slightly older than him. Her long raven hair was slicked back and had a sheen that made it shine in a fine dampness. Bright green eyes held a relaxed aura about them. White gloves covered her arms, and white robes draped her form; but they were different than the robes the regular worshipers wore. Her robes hugged her curves closely, and while none of the skin below her neck was showing, it was still easy to imagine what lied beneath the tight cloth.

As the woman walked down the stairs of the church, the water above them began to flow. Like a river, the water traveled outside the walls of church and was gently dumped around the land surrounding the area. While the control over the water was impressive, that wasn't the things that caught Naruto's attention the most. The first thing he noticed was he couldn't feel any of the magic coming off the woman. The second thing he noticed was…

"You didn't even gesture towards the water," Naruto stated in awe, "You controlled it with only your will alone."

"That is correct, Naruto Uzumaki," The woman gave him a beautiful smile, "That is the true power we god slayers can achieve."

"God slayer?"

"Yes, my name is Marissa Shepard, God Slayer of Water and High Priestess of the Church of the Rabbit Queen."

"I'm glad you came so quickly," Marissa stated as she led the group of jinchūriki through the chapel. The large room was filled with pews, praying people, and a large alter at the end of the room, "Xion contacted me about what happened. She praised your fighting abilities and mentioned that you would be coming here to ask for information on your personal quest."

"Uh huh…" Gaara crossed his arms and eyed the priestess, "So you called Fu as preparation? Why's that?"

"That's very simple," Marissa gave a calm smile, "I knew that you would either be asking about jinchūriki or dark guilds. From what I heard about your visit to the Magic Council, you're not the type of people to get beaten by a play of words; and the only dark guild I have any info on is very powerful. I know that any warning I would give might be met with deaf ears, so I decided to go contact someone you would trust in case you decided to do something too dangerous for two people."

Fu deflated a bit, "So you didn't just want to see me?"

Marissa giggled a bit, "Don't fret, Fu. The opportunity to see you was an added bonus that greatly influenced my decisions."

Fu instantly reflated, "Of course it did."

"So, what is this information you have?" Naruto questioned.

Marissa looked around at the praying people, "Come with me to my mediation chamber. I do not wish to upset my pupils during their prayer time."

Knowing that having very ears listening would be the best thing for this situation, the jinchūriki quietly followed the priestess. The passed by the alter and through a door at the side. They continued down a long hallway with various images of what appeared to be deities controlling different elements. Naruto noticed that there were hundreds of them. Oddly enough, though, the different deities were in similar groups of seven using the same elements. It was almost like the deities were different groups of individuals that changed over time.

As they reached the end of the hall and were about to enter the door to the meditation chamber, Naruto spoke up, "This hall confuses me. I thought this church worshiped one god."

Marissa paused as her hand grabbed the doorknob, "We do worship one god now, but that wasn't always the case."

Gaara felt his curiosity rise, "What caused the change?"

Marissa chuckled as she gently opened the door, "Time, reality, the rules…And just plain the nature of evolution."

With that, they walked into the meditation chamber. The room was lit by hundreds of candles that lined the sides. The light showed the white marble of the room and the two paths of water that leads a path to the end of the room. At the end of the path was a large purple cushion that was in the middle of a circle of candles. Behind the cushion was a large pool that seemed to be linked to the paths of water down the sides.

Fu's brow wrinkled in confusion as she watched Marissa gracefully knelt down to her meditation pillow, "Evolution? Don't you believe in creation?"

"That was my question at first," Roshi noted as he walked over to stand by the priestess's side.

Marissa smiled gently, "I was referring to how humans adapt. How people, cultures, and even godhood change over time. That is the nature of not only our world, but all worlds."

Naruto paused, "So…you're saying that the gods changed over time?"

"Yes, in fact, hundreds of years ago, this church was the Church of the Seven Deities," Marissa nodded, "But eventually, they were overtaken by other beings. The Rabbit Queen Kaguya was one of them. Now, they are miner beings that are merely shells of their former selves. As such, Kaguya is above those gods and deserves to be worshiped until someone dethrones her….and her partner."

"Who's her partner?" Gaara questioned.

Marissa eyed Naruto for a moment, "The Black Mage Zeref."

Naruto's face wrinkled in anger. The other could almost feel the hate rolling off of him, even though his eyes were still hidden, "What?"

"I cannot go into full details with someone outside of my church, but as a God Slayer, I think you deserve to know," Marissa sighed, "I'm sure that your demons have told you about the warning the Sage of the Six Paths gave them. Beware the Mage of Death and the Rabbit Queen. But how exactly would he know about a person from a different planet?"

"Um…He was psychic?" Fu questioned, "No…That's stupid. Wait, he did have special eyes, right? That could be it, but you mentioned that Kaguya and Zeref worked together…Huh, I'm out of guesses then. I mean, it can't be that our worlds are connected, right?"

Everyone stared at Fu with gapping mouths.

"Um…right?"

"That…explains a lot," Gaara closed his eyes in thought, "There's something in history that connects the Elemental Nations and Earthland. That's why we can use chakra and magic. But…if we have chakra coils and the ability to absorb Etherano, why don't the people of this world have chakra too?"

Marisa bowed her head apologetically, "Do forgive me, but I cannot tell you that unless you swear yourself to the church. It is the rules, and as priestess, I must enforce those rules."

"It's alright," Naruto shrugged, "None of that really matters to me. History is just that. History. It's in the past, and I like to look forward."

"But people that don't forget history are doomed to repeat it," Roshi argued.

"Good, because I plan to make Zeref a shell of his former self too. By killing him and letting his corpse rot in the deepest pits I can find," Naruto gave a sharp grin.

"How are you so sure he's alive?" Fu questioned, "Most people think that he's dead."

"He was called the immortal mage. No one could kill him, and he never aged," Naruto stated, "I won't buy that he's dead unless I know for sure. And even if he is, I can still erase everything that still holds memory of him in the world."

"I see…" Marissa nodded, "I can honestly say that I don't object to such a goal."

"But isn't your god connected to Zeref?" Gaara questioned.

"She is, but you misunderstand the goal of this church," Marissa smiled beamingly, "You see, we hold the ideals of respecting your parents. That is the role all children must play…until they grow. Then, eventually, the new adults surpass the parents and take their place."

"Wait…" Fu's eyes widened, "Is that why…"

"Yes," Marissa nodded, "That is why the high priestess must be a god slayer. For, it is my job to slay the goddess Kaguya."

"By the time you get there, the village should be evacuated," Marissa explained as she stood at the gate of the church with Naruto, "Luckily, the church membership is spread out a lot, so we can move quickly. I would just prefer to report what I know to the Magic Council, but…"

"Yeah, I get it. I've met them," Naruto couldn't help but grin.

"Yes, they are rather…ineffective at what they do," Marissa giggled, "As such, the followers of the church have to keep our ear to the ground about such matters in order to help the people of this country. It leaves me with a lot of information, though."

"Arigato," Naruto bowed his head in thanks, "I appreciate all the help you've given me…but…"

"Yes?"

Naruto glanced at where the other jinchūriki. Fu wanted to say goodbye to Roshi, and Gaara got dragged along. The blonde couldn't help but feel amused when Fu used her puppy dog eyes on the red head. It seemed that no one was immune to the power of kawaii.

He then leaned in and whispered to the other god slayer, "Have you ever heard of a person my name Arashi? He has blonde hair like me, and probably uses a form of nature or tree techniques."

Marissa blinked, "No…I can't say that I have. Why do you ask?"

Naruto frowned, "It's nothing…It's just a personal thing I need to take care of, and I don't want anyone else knowing about it right now. Especially my main source for information…"

"Fairy Tail? Why keep secrets from them?"

"It…has to do with my master…" Naruto clenched his hands in anger, "She asked me to take care of a few things. The jinchūriki are a part of it, but…there's two other things I have to take care of. Fairy Tail is one of them, but…there's also a mistake she made a while ago that I need to correct."

"I see…And why reveal so much to me if you have so many secrets that you keep from your allies?" Marissa questioned.

"You have people all over the country. You can hear things that no one else can. As of right now, you're my best lead to completing my master's wishes," Naruto stated, "And…well…I don't know. I guess something in my gut is telling me…I don't know what it's telling me, really…It's not like it's saying to trust or distrust you. It's saying that I need to tell you no matter what."

Marissa gave him a small smile. Then with speeds that Naruto was shocked to see, she grabbed him and pulled him out of view of the other jinchūriki. They hid in the shadow of the gate, and the Water God Slayer leaned in close to whisper in his ear, "Tell me, Naruto? Do you know the true nature of the God Slayers?"

Naruto lifted up his headband a little to partially reveal his red eyes, "You know what, my master told me to look in the book of Sky God Slayer magic for it, but I couldn't find anything."

"Oh, I see…Your master is very smart then. She must have hidden it until you were a good enough mage to find it," Marissa shook her head sadly, "The knowledge is a heavy burden. It's one that I've had to deal with since I was born."

"What?"

"I was born and raised into this life. I never had a chance to be anything else," Marissa's breath tickled his ear. Naruto felt a shudder run down his spine, "There are many days that I wish that I was never made to carry this weight on my shoulders."

Naruto bit his lip lightly, "I know the feeling."

"Yes, you do," Marissa's eyes gazed into his, "But in a very different way…You see, there can only be one God Slayer for each element at a time. Before a new one can be chosen, the old one must die, and…before me…my mother was the God Slayer of Water."

Naruto felt his mouth go dry, "I see."

"I won't go into too much details, but I have been a God Slayer for a very long time," Marissa noted, "All my life basically, and I've studied and mastered these powers. I am the perfect god slayer, and that's not me bragging. As such…I know everything there is to know about the gods."

"Everything?"

"Everything," Marissa gently took his hand in hers. Naruto felt like electricity ran through him from the physical contact, "The true nature of God Slayers, Demigod mode, who the gods really are, and…that certain gods are always destined to have specific relationships."

"And…what is the relationship between the sky and water gods?"

"Fierce rivals. Equal enemies…" She leaned so close that her lips were almost touching his, "Lovers that can never be with each other."

Naruto blinked.

"It always ends the same. They try to grow close to each other. You know the result? Tsunamis. Hurricanes. Deadly whirlpools. Storms that ravage entire countries," Marissa gained a pained look, "They always know that it will happen. Either if they fight, or if they make love, the two gods will only cause pain to everything around them if they ever try to be something more than friends."

"I see…"

"And you want to know the worst part?"

"What?"

"Even though they know that coming into contact with each other will always end badly, they still do it anyway. They can't help themselves," Marissa explained, "It's part of who they are."

"So…what are you telling me exactly?" Naruto questioned.

"Just what I said. We God Slayers reflect those who gave us our powers. One day, we will meet. Either as enemies, or as lovers and allies on the battlefield," Marissa warned, "On that day, terrible things will happen. It's already started. We both have similar goals. To slay a god that shouldn't really exist. One day, our paths will cross; and I pray that it the more pleasurable relationship shall occur. That way, at least our happiness is guaranteed."

"There's only one problem," Naruto's breath met her lips, "I don't believe in bull crap like fate or destiny. We shape our own lives with our own decisions. If I don't want to have either relationship, I won't. Because that's my choice."

"Spoken like a true Sky God," Marissa giggled lightly and stepped back, "You never let anything control you…Except your own wants and desires."

Naruto couldn't help but grin, "As it should be."

"So you're sure that we don't have to worry about Number 5?" Gaara questioned.

"Naw, despite leading a dark guild, Han isn't out to do anything too crazy. I wouldn't make him a top priority," Roshi shrugged, "Just don't piss him off. Actually, don't do anything that gets him stirred up. Once Han's stirred up, he's going to wreck everything in his sight."

"Noted," Gaara nodded, "Still, we'll probably try to meet him if we ever get the chance. Do you know his location?"

"I do, but I promised I wouldn't tell anyone," Roshi took a swig of his sake, "Sorry, gaki."

"That doesn't mean anything to—"

"Gaara!" Fu glared at the red head, "We can't ask him to break a promise! It isn't right!"

"Says who?"

"Says me!" Fu declared, "Promises are a sacred thing! After all, a person must always try to keep his or her word."

"Alright, whatever," Gaara crossed his arms, "Not like I really care. Just don't be surprised if Naruto comes back later to ask you again. Especially if Han does anything that could draw too much attention to jinchūriki."

"If Han does that, then I'll tell you," Roshi mentioned, "But he won't. He's content as long as he cracks a few skulls every now and then."

"Alright then. I guess Number 5 just went the bottom of my to do list," Naruto mentioned as he walked up to them, "Time to go. We don't have a lot of time if we want to get there in before the enemy."

"Right/Okay!" Gaara and Fu responded respectively.

Naruto turned to bow to Roshi, "Thank you for all your help, Roshi-sempai."

"Sempai?" Roshi rose an eyebrow.

"Yes, you are a senior jinchūriki. As such, you are my sempai." Naruto stated.

"Hmm…I like that. You're actually respecting my age," Roshi then glared at Fu, "Unlike some brats…"

Fu's response to stick her tongue out at him.

"How come you call him senpai, but not Yagura?" Gaara questioned.

"You kidding? I could never call that pipsqueak senpai with a straight face."

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!"

Xion blinked at her boyfriend as they sat in a little café in the center of a small town, "Um…Dude, why are you yelling?'

"Someone called me short!" Yagura snapped, "I'm sure of it!"

"No one called you short, Yagura," Xion stated with an amused look, "In fact, there's literally two other people in this shop right now, and they looked too scared to make any sort of noise."

"Not here! Somewhere else! I can sense it!" Yagura pounded the table with his fist, "Stop calling me short, dammit!"

"And people call me the strange one," Xion shrugged as she lifted up her bowl of soup and began to pour it in her mouth.

"Huh…" Fu blinked as she looked around, "Did you hear that?"

"Hear what?" Naruto turned his head to look at Fu as they continued to walk down the path that led away from the church.

"It sounded like an outraged shout," Fu rubbed the top of her head in confusion.

"You might have been hearing my thoughts," Gaara mentioned. He looked to Naruto, "Do we have to take her with us?"

"We're going to do some recognizance on, and possibly fight, against members of Grimoire Heart. I'll take any help that we can get," Naruto shrugged.

"Besides, don't act like you don't enjoy having me around," Fu grinned at the red head, "Especially because you've stealing looks at my ass since we first met up back at the church."

"I did no such thing."

"Yes you did."

"No I didn't."

"Yes you did."

"No I didn't"

"Yes you did," This time it was Naruto that spoke up.

"Naruto!" Gaara snapped as he glared at the traitor, "You've had your eyes covered this entire time. How would you even know?"

"I could feel that your gaze was on her," Naruto mentioned, "Also, he was also looking at your legs, Fu. I think that he really likes how tan they are."

"Oh really?" Fu's grin only grew.

"I'm done talking now," Gaara muttered.

"Oh, come on! It's going to be great! The three of us together. We'll kick ass and take names," Fu swung her arms around the male jinchūriki, "We'll have to change the team name, though. I can't be part of the Sword and Shield thing…"

Gaara just frowned.

"How about the Sword, Shield, and Bug? Nope, that sounds stupid."

The frown deepened.

"SSB? Nope, that's worse."

The frown now threatened to tear Gaara's face in half.

"Lucky Sword and Shield? The Three Weapons? Fu's Gang? FuNarGar? NarFuGar? GarNarFu? The Kick Ass Brigade?"

Gaara slipped out of Fu's grip and began to walk away, "Sorry, Naruto. You'll need to get a new best friend. I'm out. Too crazy for me."

"Oh, come on, Gaara!" Fu began to chase after Gaara, "I'll think of a good name! I promise!"

Naruto shook his head as he looked after the forms of the retreating jinchūriki, "Fu, I don't think that's the problem."

Marissa was sitting on the cushion in her meditation chambers. Roshi stood not far away. He gave her a confused look, "You told them a lot more than you intended."

"I'm sorry. I got carried away. It's just…Naruto's face is just too cute."

"Geeze…" Roshi rolled his eyes, "Sorry I asked."

"Besides," Marissa looked over to Roshi, "I didn't reveal the big things. They have no idea about our real plans."

"Hmm…Maybe you should bring him into the fold?" Roshi suggested, "You two get along well…very well. I could feel the tension between the two of you. And did you see his look when you showed off your magic? I thought he was going to propose on the spot."

"Quit exaggerating," Marissa blushed lightly nevertheless, "But you might be right. He may have agreed to help our cause. For some reason, though, I don't think that he would. He has an uncaring attitude about people he doesn't care about, but I doubt that he would go out of his way to hurt people when he doesn't need to."

"I guess, but that could very well change once he's a god slayer long enough," Roshi mentioned, "The compulsion to kill gods is by far the greatest weakness of the magic. He might not be able to help it later."

"Then I'll have to wait and see. But if he doesn't change by the time that we're about to initiate our plan, then we'll have to use drastic measures," Marissa slowly got up from her seated position, "I may very well have to use my ties to the dark guilds to initiate the back-up plan. After all, we need all the God Slayers and jinchūriki on our side if we want this to work. Especially Naruto…Without him, we'll never succeed in bringing Kaguya back without killing the jinchūriki of this world."

"Yeah, I'd prefer you didn't do that," Roshi mentioned lightly.

"I won't. I promise you, old friend," Marissa walked over to the pool sat at the end of the room. She gently reached down and pressed a finger to the water's edge causing a ripple to spread out, "But that promise leaves me with only one option…"

The pools clear image began to shimmer. Instead of the bottom of the pool, the water's surface showed a rather dark room. Several people were bowing before a person lazing on a throne. The room was too dark for Marissa to see the person's face, but she had seen it before.

"Zeref will eventually reveal himself, but Kaguya is different. She needs to be resurrected so we can slay her. And to get to her, we must kill Kami."

Strange eyes snapped open and looked right to where the water's picture was showing. This cause the water to suddenly blast out and destroy the image. All of the water suddenly froze in mid-air and gently floated back down to the pool.

"That's right. You felt me, didn't you…?" Marissa let out a small sigh, "That's why we need Naruto more than anyone. If we don't have him on our side, we'll never succeed in our goal."

"Yeah…" Roshi leaned his head back to look at the ceiling, "The true reason God Slayers exist...to kill the gods and take their place."

"Yes, and only once we do that can we can prevent people like Kaguya and Zeref from ever existing again. Because once my generation has finally taken its place as the new gods, we can finally rid every world of the false gods that plague them."
