Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 45
Friday night as they were just getting ready to go upstairs and go to bed there was a knock on the door. They weren't expecting anyone so Maura cautiously went to the door. She peeked through the peep hole and didn't know what to do.
She called Jane over and told her who was at the door. Jane was not happy. They went back over to the door as they heard another knock. Maura opened the door with Jane right behind her. "Janie, can I come in?" Jane motioned for Maura to let him in.
"I need to talk to you. I couldn't wait any longer. I am sorry about the hour. I know it is late." Frank offered as a means of breaking the ice. He hadn't spoken to Jane since before her accident. He never came to the hospital to see her and only asked about her a few times according to Angela.
"Yes, it is." Jane said. "We were just getting ready to go to bed. What do you want, Pop?"
"I want you to talk to your mother, she is being ridiculous. She is moving out and I don't want her to." Frank said as he tried to reason with his daughter.
"Pop, that is not our concern. I mean of course we don't want to see you break up your marriage but I really don't know how we can help. Ma is a grown ass woman with her own feelings." Jane said immediately realizing she had sworn and would hear about it from Maura.
"Jane, language." Maura said as both Jane and Frank looked at her. Jane, because she loved her and appreciated her concern for her use of foul language. Frank because he thought she was butting into their conversation and he didn't want anything to do with her. She was ruining his relationship with his daughter by convincing her to be in a same-sex relationship.
"Pop, I really don't know what you want us to do. As I said she is a grown woman. She is very capable of making her own decisions, as am I." Maura had come to stand right behind Jane and had her hand on the right side of the wheelchair. Jane put her hand up so that if covered Maura's. Frank quietly sighed in disgust.
"Can you please leave us alone to talk? I want to speak to my daughter alone." Frank stated as he looked at Maura.
"No Pop. Maura isn't going anywhere. This is our home. If you want to talk to me in our home, it will be on my terms. She stays and that is my final word." Jane said as she was getting irritated. Maura moved her hand to Jane's shoulder and gave it a light squeeze. Jane looked up at her and smiled.
Frank sat down. Jane could see tears forming in his eyes. "Pop, if you want to fix this you need to be talking to Ma not me. I didn't tell her to move out, neither did Maura, Frankie or Tommy, it was her decision and hers alone."
Frank looked as if he might be thinking about that. "She's not answering any of my calls and she is not staying at the house anymore. I don't know where she is."
"Would you like for me to call her? Maybe she will talk to you then or maybe she will agree to meet you somewhere public where you can talk." Jane offered. Maura squeezed her shoulder again in support. Maura had sat down also right beside Jane.
This whole time Frank had not asked about how Jane was. His concern was that Angela had left and nothing else. It kind of bugged Jane. He could've at least asked how she was or something but he barely acknowledged her.
"Yeah, could you call her for me and try and set something up so we can talk if she won't talk on the phone with me?" Frank asked and gave somewhat of a smile to her.
Jane pulled out her cell phone or attempted to. Maura reached for it and handed it to Jane. Jane put it in her lap and pushed the buttons to call her mother. Angela answered on the second ring. "Hey Janie, it's kinda late how come you are not in bed already?"
"Hey Ma, someone stopped by tonight and I was wondering if you might speak to him." Angela looked in Frankie's living room where she could see Frankie and Tommy and knew who must have stopped by.
"Janie, I have nothing to say to that man." At that Frankie and Tommy turned to listen to their mother's conversation. "Why did he go to you?"
"He wants me to convince you to meet him so you guys can talk."
"Like I said, I have nothing to say to him. You three, well four children are my only concern not him." Angela was adamant in her thoughts. Jane loved that she included Maura in her child count. Maura was family after all.
"Ma, would it kill you to talk to him for a few minutes. You guys have been married for over 30 years. You have us children. Can you give him fifteen minutes or so?" Jane pleaded with her mother. "After that you will not have to talk to him ever again." Frank didn't like that part of the agreement but if that is what it took to get Angela to listen to him for at least fifteen minutes then he would do it.
"Okay, but I would like you and Maura there. Can we do it at your house maybe on Monday?" Angela asked, she didn't want Frank to come over to Frankie's. Jane was the one that could handle Frank out of the three Rizzoli children. Maura didn't like the idea of Frank coming back to their home but if Jane had to be there it was better that Jane be home. She could retreat to their room if she needed.
Frank agreed and they set the time of 1 PM for the conversation. The elevator should be installed by then as they were starting at 7 AM. Jane thought at least one good thing would happen on Monday. She wasn't sure how this conversation with her parents was going to go and she was not going to worry about it.
About another ten minutes after they hung up with Angela Frank left the house and Maura and Jane were finally able to go up to bed. Maura gave Jane a little bit of pain medication to get her to go to sleep. She set more aside so that if Jane woke up in pain in the middle of the night again, she would be prepared.
The pain medication helped Jane fall asleep pretty fast. Maura laid there snuggled up to Jane thinking. She thought about how pleased she was with the lawyer's visit earlier that day. If anything happened to her, Jane and any future children would be taken care of. That had brought up a discussion after the lawyer left about children.
They knew they each liked the possibility of children but they hadn't discussed it. For several hours after the lawyer left, they discussed IVF and who would carry their babies. Maura wanted to carry at least one child but she also wanted to have a biological relationship to a child. She was conflicted because she wanted to carry Jane's baby. The only way she could carry Jane's baby was to use Jane's eggs but then the baby wouldn't be biologically related to her.
They discussed it and decided to table the discussion for another day. Maura would gather up information about IVF and Jane and Maura would both go through testing to see who would be able to carry a baby. They wanted to start the process right after their formal wedding next year. Just the thought of having a family with Jane excited Maura. She never thought she would get married or have children and now everything was within reach.
With the thought of future babies and being cuddled up with her wife, Maura was able to forget about Frank and fall asleep. Jane didn't wake up during the night and for that Maura was thankful. They had an easy weekend planned. They were going to look at some wedding venues online and look at honeymoon destinations.
They had movies lined up to watch and a game to watch with Frankie, Tommy, Frost and Korsak. They each were loving the break from work except for the part of Jane being injured. They were catching up on their movie watching and talking.
Work had called a few times for Maura's expert opinion on something and the Governor said he hated to bother her and that he would extend her leave to compensate for it. When she talked to Jane about it, they agreed and that either Angela, Frankie or Tommy would come and stay with Jane.
While she had the Governor on the phone, she told him that she and Jane had gotten married but they were not letting anyone know but she felt that he needed to know as her supervisor. He said he would see what paperwork she would need to file as a state employee and get back to her. She knew that he would keep their marriage a secret.
Maura then discussed it with Jane and said she might need to tell Lt. Cavanaugh as her commander. Maybe Frost, Korsak and Susie should be told also as they were the staff members they worked with on a daily basis. Jane agreed, although she wanted to keep their marriage a secret, she understood the ramifications of their coworkers knowing. They would wait until Jane went back to work though. They would stay inside their little bubble for as long as possible.
Except for the few interruptions from Maura's work the weekend was rather quiet. Well, not during the game. They were all yelling and screaming like normal and it was great to see Jane enjoying herself. She still had some of the root beer that Constance had bought for her so she drank that while the guys were drinking beer. She liked the way Constance explained that to her, that 'that was the only kind of beer she could get for her' while on her medication. She smiled remembering that. She missed her mother-in-law and she smiled again at the thought that Constance was now her mother-in-law and she didn't even know it.
Maura sat and enjoyed the game with the guys. She enjoyed watching Jane watch the game, that was her pleasure. She didn't care that much about baseball but she knew her wife did and that was enough for her. Her wife, that was a pleasant thought that made her smile even brighter. Jane caught her smiling at her and whispered, "What are you smiling for?"
"Because you are mine, you are my wife and that thrills me. I am so happy, Jane." Maura whispered back and Jane gave her a kiss. Maura kissed her back and soon a pillow came flying at them.
"Get a room." Frankie yelled when they looked his way.
"This whole house is our room. So here is your pillow back." Jane went to throw it and then screamed in pain.
"Jane, you can't do that kind of horseplay." Maura said immediately trying to figure out what hurt her.
"I'm okay Maur, it just hurt my ribs when I attempted to throw the pillow back. I won't do that again I promise." Jane told Maura and she settled down. She knew Jane liked to rough house with the guys but she was in no condition to do that.
"I'm so sorry Janie, I'm so used to doing things like that with you. I wasn't thinking Maura." Frankie stated.
"It's okay Frankie, she is okay. I think the pain warned her enough that she shouldn't do that again." Maura said as she gave Jane a kiss on the cheek.
"Yes, the pain was enough of a warning. Please don't throw anything at me until I am healed. My ribs should be healed about the same time my casts come off. Do you guys have any updates on the other person injured in the crash, the second car that hit me?"
"She had a broken shoulder from the seatbelt and lacerations on her forehead from the windshield glass that was not shielded by the airbag. Other than that, she was in pretty good shape. She is just so sorry about what happened to you. She actually came down to the station Friday and asked if she could see you. We told her that you were at home recuperating and would not be back to work for a few months." Korsak informed her.
"At first, she didn't know you were a police officer. She didn't see anything at the scene because her car was facing away from yours after your cars collided. She saw it on the news after she was released from the hospital. She is a really nice lady. She said she will come back." Frost added.
Jane replied, "Well, that is nice of her. I will probably never hear from the guy that hit me."
"I don't think you will. He is being charged and will probably do some time. It seems he was a little intoxicated. We didn't know that until yesterday. Somehow that information was withheld from us." Korsak stated.
"Oh, I didn't know that either. I have not been allowed to touch anything that relates to that accident to include the medical condition of both of the other drivers." Maura informed the guys.
"It's probably for the best. You guys just need to enjoy your time off and see to Jane's healing. Except Dr. Isles I have seen you at work several times. Aren't you on leave." Frost asked. Concerned that the Governor was butting into Maura's time off.
"Yes, the Governor had called me in a few times and stated that I will be given additional leave time to make up for anytime that is taken away from my leave."
"Well, he better because when you are on leave, they shouldn't mess with you." Korsak stated very firmly.
The game had been paused and they went back to watching the game. Maura made sure that Jane's right arm was occupied by being wrapped around her so that she couldn't hurt herself anymore. When the game ended the guys picked up their empty beer bottles and recycled them and then said their goodnights to Jane and Maura.
They shut everything off downstairs and went upstairs to go to bed. Tomorrow was another stay home and relax day with no plans as Monday would be full of activities with the elevator installation and Frank and Angela's talk. Then Angela would be moving in on Tuesday unless something changed during her talk with Frank.
