Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 49
Jane and Maura had thoroughly enjoyed their bachelorette parties. They loved that they were combined for some of the celebrations because they wanted to share in the experience with each other. They both knew that this was it. This was the last time they would ever go through something like this. They were going to be married to each other for the rest of their lives.
After work they were sitting on the couch and watching the video of their earlier wedding and their bachelorette parties. Maura laughed when Jane knocked out the boxing instructor and then again when Tommy threw the axe backwards until she saw it almost land on Jane. Then she was upset. Jane told her that she wasn't hurt and it was an accident. To settle Maura down she played their wedding again.
As they sat cuddled up together on the couch watching their wedding ceremony again, Angela walked in. She didn't say anything she just walked up and watched the ceremony. When it ended and the judge told them they were now married. Angela spoke up, "What is this?"
Jane and Maura turned around and saw Angela. Angela walked around to the front of the couch so they could respond to her question. "Umm, we got married, shortly after I got out of the hospital." Jane told her.
Angela was shocked. She didn't know what to say. She just sat down in one of the chairs across from them. After a moment she said, "So, you two got married without me present!" She stated, not asked. She was upset.
"I can't believe you would do that. I have been working so hard with Constance to plan the perfect wedding for the two of you. Wait until I tell Constance. I don't know what she is going to say. So, are we cancelling the wedding in the Hampton's now?"
"No, Angela. I, we, still want the wedding. We, well after Jane's accident we just didn't want to wait to get married. Life is too short. Jane could've died that day and I was so upset, as you know. When Jane and I finally talked about it, we decided to go ahead and just have a court house wedding and then a year later have the ceremony with our family and friends." Maura said as Angela looked sad not upset. She remembered almost losing her daughter that day.
Angela said, "I guess that makes sense, but I wish you would have told me. I would have been there for the two of you."
"Angela, we didn't tell anybody. We just went, well we got married. I love Jane so much and planning a wedding takes time and I didn't want to wait." Maura exclaimed.
Angela smiled how could she be mad when her girls just wanted to be married. But she was mad, she had missed the wedding. "I wanted to attend your wedding. I wanted to help plan it with you."
"You're doing that Ma." Jane stated. "You and Constance have been planning the perfect wedding for us and we love you for that. We want to share our wedding ceremony with our family and friends. We just didn't want to wait to get married. Life is short and we wanted to be married already."
"I'm still going to call Constance." Angela said as she was already pushing buttons on her phone to place the call and walked out to the guest house.
"Hello Angela darling. How are you?" Constance said as she answered her phone.
"I am a little upset right now. Our daughters had a judge marry them a few days after Jane got out of the hospital." Angela told Constance.
"Oh! Are they still having the wedding in the Hampton's?" Constance asked.
"Yes, but aren't you upset with them?" Angela asked.
"No, if you would have seen Maura after Mel died and then after Jane's accident, I think you would understand a little more. Maura was traumatized and she loves Jane so much that she probably just wanted to go ahead and get married and then have the ceremony. It would give her peace of mind." Constance explained.
"So, you are really okay with the fact that they went behind our backs and got married?"
"Angela, they are grown women. If they want to go to the courthouse and get married then they can do that. They are still having the ceremony for their family and friends. You are not missing out on anything, are you?" Constance was trying to reason with Angela. She had remembered Jane and Maura stating that Angela gets like this at times.
Angela quickly changed the subject knowing that Constance was not upset like she thought she should be, "When are you arriving?"
"I will be arriving in two days. We are going straight to the Hampton's to start getting things ready. We have the rehearsal and dinner to see to prior to the wedding. My assistant said everything is on schedule. Just have a nice glass of wine and relax. I'm sure Maura has restocked the guest house's wine refrigerator."
"Okay, thank you Constance. I will see you in a few days."
"Good bye, Angela." Constance said as she disconnected the call.
Sure enough, two days later Arthur and Constance arrived in the Hampton's. Family and friends of Jane and Maura's would be arriving in two days for the rehearsal followed by the dinner and then the next day the wedding.
The tents for the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception were already set up. Crews were busy setting up the tables and chairs. Wooden arches and a lavish stage area were being built. Everything was going according to schedule.
Guests would be arriving the day of the rehearsal and would be staying at the neighboring houses. Constance had arranged with all of her neighbors to help out. Many of them only used their houses a couple times a year and Constance offered to pay all of their staff for seeing to their guests' needs.
Jane and Maura arrived on Friday early morning. They had left Boston at 5 AM so they could beat all of the morning traffic. It was a four-and-a-half-hour drive to the Hamptons. They wanted to have time to visit with Arthur and Constance before the ceremony.
"Hello, how is my favorite daughter and daughter-in-law?" Constance greeted Jane and Maura when they arrived early Friday afternoon.
"You seem to be taking the news that we are already married better then my Ma. I still think she is pissed at us." Jane said as she hugged Constance.
Constance replied, "Well, she was a little upset that she was not invited."
"Constance, no one was invited. It was just Maura and I committing ourselves to each other. Ma doesn't know and I am trusting that you won't tell her. We had the marriage license before my accident. We were going to set up the appointment that day." Jane confessed to Constance.
"I know I saw the marriage certificate at the house while you were in the hospital." Constance admitted to Jane and Maura.
"You did? Mother you never said anything." Maura looked at her mother a little surprised at what her mother had just admitted.
"My dear, you must remember what state you were in when I came back to Boston. You had broken off your engagement with Jane. Jane was still in the hospital. I stopped by to see her before I came to check on you. When I arrived, you were a mess and although you and Jane had worked through your issues, you were in no shape for me to bring something like that up."
Constance paused and then continued, "So, when Angela told me that you had gotten married already, I was not surprised. I am not upset that the two of you are married already. I am happy that you were able to communicate with each other and take that step. I am pleased that you are still going through with the ceremony for your family and friends."
"Constance, we still wanted the ceremony. It was just after hearing how much my accident affected Maura, I was even more determined to marry her. I know we had planned it before my accident but after the accident it meant that much more. Life is short and we never know how much time we have so we need to enjoy our time together. My mother doesn't know that we had the marriage license prior to my accident."
They had a late lunch and then drove around together enjoying the sights before having dinner at one of the local restaurants. Arthur and Constance were enjoying this time with Jane and Maura. Friday was the calm before the storm so to speak as guests would be arriving all day Saturday afternoon for the wedding rehearsal and then staying for the wedding on Sunday morning.
They had brunch at 10 AM on Saturday. Kate, Rick, Olivia, Alex and Noah had all planned to be in town for brunch. They wanted to spend some time with Jane and Maura before everyone arrived. Maura was wondering if Olivia and Alex were a couple, she didn't want to ask but when they walked in hand in hand her question was answered. Noah was holding onto Alex's hand and he was so happy.
Constance and Arthur were happy to see Kate and Rick again as well as Alex. They were happy to meet Olivia and Noah. Constance and Arthur had met Alex and had seen her at several of the foundation's fundraisers. They had known the Cabot family for a long time.
Although they were not participating in the wedding, they were still invited to the rehearsal dinner. Constance had made sure that everybody knew that they were invited to the rehearsal dinner. That was one less thing everybody had to worry about. There is nothing like arriving in town and trying to figure out where to eat.
After brunch they continued visiting until it was time to get ready for the rehearsal. The New York bunch went over to the Castle's estate to get dressed.
Angela had arrived with Cavanaugh, Frankie, Nina, Frost and Tommy. Korsak and Kiki arrived about half an hour later. They didn't see Jane and Maura as they hadn't come down yet from their room.
Maura had set an alarm because Jane wanted to lay down and take a nap before the rehearsal. They had two and half hours. Jane convinced Maura to lay down with her. Once Maura laid down Jane snuggled up to her and started kissing her. Maura accepted the kisses and then Jane deepened the kisses and started undressing Maura. Maura knew what Jane was doing. "Jane we only have a short window to take the nap you so desperately wanted to take."
"I know Maur, I am laying down and that is really what I wanted. I need to hold you and feel your love. The house is about to be bombarded and we will not have any time alone until we leave for our honeymoon." Jane gave her best puppy dog eyes and Maura gave in. She always loved making love with Jane and she was right they wouldn't have any privacy soon.
Maura reached over and changed the time of the alarm to allow time to get up and shower. They then spent the next two hours pleasuring each other while trying to be as quiet as possible knowing that they were not alone. They had heard when Angela arrived as she was so loud but they didn't stop. The door was locked and they decided they wouldn't answer it if anybody came to the door.
When the alarm went off Jane tried to convince Maura to ignore it. "Come on Maur, this is our time. Stay with me."
"Love, we have to get up and go to our wedding rehearsal." Maura stated as she attempted to get out of bed.
"We are already married, what can they possibly tell us Maur?" Jane claimed as she pulled Maura on top of her.
"Jane, we need to be there. They are going to run through the ceremony so that all parties will know what they are supposed to do when." Maura informed her as she squirmed to get up so she could take a quick shower and get dressed.
Jane relaxed her grip on Maura and said, "I know, I just don't want to let you go."
"That is sweet Jane, after we leave for our honeymoon, you will have me all to yourself for the rest of our lives. I promise." Maura said as she rose up off of the bed and leaned down to give Jane a quick kiss.
"Well, not when we have children, I will have to share you then." Jane retorted.
"Well, when we have children we will cross that bridge, now please get ready. I need to take a quick shower." Maura stated as she went into the bathroom to take her shower.
Jane jumped out of bed got dressed and went downstairs.
Constance laughed when she saw what Jane was wearing for the rehearsal. "Jane, you look lovely my dear. I hope you are not planning on wearing that attire for the actual ceremony?"
"What is wrong with my attire Constance?" Jane asked curious to see what Constance would say.
"It is colorful, only you would wear something like that for your wedding rehearsal."
"Constance, I really do not see what is wrong with my Boston Red Sox jersey and matching ball cap. I told Maura what I wanted to get married in. She asked me and I said I wanted to get married at home plate at Fenway and wear my Red Sox jersey. So, I am getting married and I wanted at least one of my things to come true." Jane said as she smiled at her mother-in-law.
"Well, this is only the rehearsal, not the real ceremony. I hope you have something more appropriate for the actual ceremony tomorrow." Constance inquired.
"Yes, I do, but you can't see it until tomorrow. Today, I am wearing my dark blue Boston Red Sox road jersey with the matching ball cap. So, you will just have to wait like everybody else." Jane was adamant that nobody was going to see what she was going to wear until she walked out to stand at the altar and wait for Maura.
"Where is my daughter?" Constance was curious because she was usually with Jane.
"She is still getting dressed. You know she has a whole routine to go through. I wanted to come down and spend some time with my favorite mother-in-law and father-in-law. The rest of the weekend we will be busy and we won't have that much time to spend together. Then you guys will go back to Paris or wherever your next adventures take you." Jane said as she sat down on the couch in the living room to visit with Constance and Arthur.
"That is true darling, although we did spend most of last evening together." Constance informed her.
"I do enjoy talking with you Jane." Arthur finally joined in the conversation. Most of the time he let Constance lead the conversation and he just interjected here and there, unless he was asked a direct question.
"Jane, why aren't you dressed?" Angela stated when she walked into the living room.
Jane just smiled at Constance and Arthur and looked at her mother and said, "I am dressed, Ma. It is just the rehearsal. I will be formally dressed tomorrow for the ceremony.
Everyone else walked in behind Angela and once Maura came downstairs, they all walked out to the backyard where the rehearsal and dinner would take place. Constance and Angela had agreed and hired a wedding coordinator to run the rehearsal. Korsak was officiating the wedding.
Because Jane and Maura had gotten married already, they were skipping all of the New York requirements to get married because this was a wedding ceremony and would not be filed with the State of New York.
Jane and Maura had agreed with their mothers that they would use their original wedding date as their date of marriage. This wedding ceremony was for their family and friends to celebrate their marriage.
The wedding coordinator knew this and was told that the wedding would be exactly the same except they wouldn't need a marriage license or be required to file their marriage with the State of New York. This also meant that Korsak didn't have to be certified to marry them.
The wedding coordinator had everybody start in their starting positions. Korsak walked down the aisle first and escorted his wife. He took his position as the officiant. Once he was in place Jane walked down the aisle escorted by her brother, Frankie.
Frankie was very happy that Jane had asked him to walk her down the aisle. He kissed her once she was in position and then took his seat beside his mother. Frost escorted Susie down the aisle. Frost gave Susie a quick kiss as she took her position and then he took his position on the other side of Jane.
The music played and Jane's cousin, Arianna's children, Nicky and Giana walked down the aisle as the ring bearer and flower girl. They had flown in from Italy just to attend the wedding. Jane was so happy they could attend, she had missed them.
The wedding march played and everyone stood up as Arthur and Maura appeared and walked down the aisle. When they reached Jane, Arthur gave Maura a kiss and she took Jane's offered hand and took her position facing Jane. They both had huge smiles on their faces. Korsak said a few remarks. Everyone sat down.
They ran through most of the ceremony when Korsak said 'you may now exchange a kiss to begin your life as a married couple,' they didn't have to be told twice. Jane immediately reached for Maura and dipped her down as she gave her a huge passionate kiss. Korsak then presented Dr. and Mrs. Rizzoli-Isles for the first time to the crowd and everyone clapped.
After the exit march everyone joined in the dinner tent and sat at their assigned tables. The rehearsal dinner went off without a hitch. Constance and Angela had the meal catered and everyone loved the meal. Jane half expected Tommy to misbehave in some fashion but he was a perfect gentleman. After everyone finished their meal that's when the fun began, the toasts.
The wedding coordinator stood up and said, "If I could have everyone's attention." She waited for the noise to die down a little and then said, "We will now have our toasts. If our honored couple could please start us off, followed by the mothers of the brides, Mrs. Isles and then Mrs. Rizzoli."
Jane and Maura stood up to toast their families and friends. Maura, who was the more eloquent speaker of the two began, "Jane and I would like to thank each of you for coming tonight and for everything you have done to help Jane and I realize that it is okay for us to be in love with one another." Maura paused and looked at Jane.
She knew that comment would make Jane a little sad because one person was missing that she never thought wouldn't be present on her wedding day, her father. He wasn't present because he died, he was alive, he wasn't present because he didn't love his daughter enough to stand by her side instead of standing by what the church told him.
"We appreciate the love and support that you have shown us. You have a choice and we are glad you chose to spend the weekend with us and celebrate our love and life-long commitment to each other." Maura then turned to Jane so she could add a few words.
Jane looked out at everybody leaned over and gave Maura a kiss on the lips and said, "Yes, what she said, thank you." Everybody laughed, that was so Jane. Maura just smiled, closed her eyes and shook her head at Jane. When she opened her eyes, Jane was smiling back at her. They sat down holding hands under the table. Jane continued to lean over and gave Maura kisses occasionally.
Constance was next to speak. "When my daughter, Maura, first told me she was dating Jane, I was a little surprised. When I first met Jane, I thought 'wow she is not what I expected.' She was very protective of Maura and very strong in her beliefs. As I got to know her, I saw what Maura saw in her. Jane is funny, loving, kind and compassionate. She loves my daughter with all of her heart. I am happy to welcome Jane to our family."
Constance glanced over at Jane and Maura and reached down and grabbed her glass and raised it, "To Jane and Maura, may they have a long life of love and happiness."
Everyone raised their glasses and said, "To Jane and Maura."
Angela then stood and started her toast. "Maura, I feel like I have known you for many years. When Jane first started bringing you to our Sunday family dinners, I could see how happy the two of you were together. You have brought sunshine and joy into my daughter's life. Many of her family members have mentioned how they have never seen her so happy. Thank you for being there for my Janie. Her family would like to officially welcome you to our family."
Angela reached down and grabbed her glass and raised it. "To Jane and Maura, may they give me grandchildren and have a long life of love and happiness."
"Ma." Jane said as everyone raised their glasses.
"To Jane and Maura." Everyone said and then took a drink of their beverage. A few friends offered toasts and then dessert was served. The evening came to a close shortly after the dessert was finished. Everyone retreated to their respective residences and were reunited in the morning for the wedding.
