A sunny morning, a wonderful breeze of the cold wind, with the green grass touching his shoes
This was indeed a happy day for Bruce Wayne walking through the empty places of the park. The Wayne Enterprises would have the annual anniversary meeting and Bruce decided to hold it in the Gotham Park
It was early, Seven AM in the Morning, and that explains how the park is still empty.
"I should've went a little sooner" Bruce whispered to himself
He shifted his feet to turn to the other direction, but upon doing so, he noticed a girl sitting lonely in a nearby bench
This girl was without a doubt someone he knew, no other than Donna, the little Amazon herself. She had a lonely expression on her face looking at the ground
And so, Bruce approached the girl
"Shouldn't you be at school now?"
Donna bolted awake, hearing a voice coming from behind. She slowly turned around and saw someone wearing a nice suit and tie
"Bruce? What are you doing here?"
"That's my line Donna, I believe school is that way" Bruce responded, pointing at a direction across the park
The girl laughed nervously as she scratched her head
"We're actually having a picnic later and the students are supposed to bring a parent"
"Well if that's the case, shouldn't your sister be here with you?"
Donna's eyes drooped upon hearing that, the same sadness engulfing her from earlier had returned
"She doesn't really know about it, I didn't tell her" Donna revealed
"I see, you two had a fight?"
"Not really, it's just… She had been doing lots these past days, with Wonder Woman and her new job. I didn't want to impose on her tight schedule… that's all."
Bruce heaved out a sigh upon hearing this. He moved closer to her and slowly brushed the top of her head with his palms in a circular motion.
"You should've told her anyways, I'm pretty sure she would choose to attend despite with her hectic schedule. You are her sister after all, I'm sure she'd do everything for you"
The little Amazon moved her head with his palms. It was always soothing to her whenever Bruce would give her head pats,.
"You really think so?" Donna asked
"Absolutely" Bruce sharply responded with a reassuring smile
"Where is your class anyways, why are you sitting here alone. Come, let go buy ice cream and find them"
A smile finally forms on the little Amazon's rosebud lips
"Let's!"
xXx
"You know, I don't really have much memories of when I was young but I remember liking head pats so much when I was still a toddler"
Donna stated, licking the top of his strawberry ice cream in the process
"That sounds wonderful, is that your class over there?"
Bruce pointed at a random group of girl scouts selling cookies at the corner
"Well, certainly not. But I like their uniforms"
"I bet you would great in it, why don't you tell your sister to sign you up"
Donna fell silent for a few seconds
"I don't want to trouble her anymore with my feeble interests, Bruce"
"You're not gonna trouble her at all. In fact, she would be delighted to know that you are joining"
"You really think so?"
"You know the answer to that question" Bruce responded, sarcasm lingering in his voice
After a few walks just by the vicinity of the park, they eventually located a gathering of people near the grass beds. They had picnic blankets all over and baskets
"Well, I guess this is it. Take care Donna" Bruce uttered as he turned his heel to the opposite direction
"w-Wait!"
A voice halted him from his tracks. Bruce immediately turned around to see what's wrong
"Ummm…"
Donna was fidgeting, her fingers slowly dancing around each other, indicating nervousness. She wanted to say something but something was keeping her from speaking her mind
"Thank you…"
"Oh, you're welcome" Bruce responded
The little Amazon then gave a bow of respect as she drifted to the opposite direction, towards the class. Bruce watched aimlessly, quite confused on what Donna wanted to say there
After a few moments, Bruce notices something. The children in the picnic had their parents with them, all except for one girl sitting lonely on the grass
He then heaved out a sigh of exasperation as he took out his phone and contacted Alfred
xXx
Donna sat quietly, isolated from the others who were having fun. They seemed happy with the company of their parents and such. It had almost been a year since she had seen her Mother or sisters back in Themyscira
A surge of loneliness came over her, the same feeling from earlier before Bruce had approached her.
"He is right, I should've told my sister…" she mumbles to herself
She was then approached by a redheaded woman with green eyes, with glasses reflecting the shine of the sun.
"Donna, what are sulking here for? Come join us"
The lady stated. Donna looked at her with a sad expression
"Where's your sister?" she asked
"She's not coming…"
"Oh, that's too bad. Well we are gonna hold the event now, is there someone coming as your guardian today"
Donna shook her head, indicating there was none
"I see…"
All of a sudden, they were apprehended by a voice from behind. It was Bruce carrying a picnic blanket and basket
"There you are—" Bruce stated, giving the girl a feint wink in the process
"You came!" Donna whispered delightfully
The redheaded lady was stunned, seeing Gotham's most eligible bachelor in their nice small picnic is something that doesn't happen everyday
"B-Bruce Wayne!?"
"Well yeah… I guess I am Bruce Wayne." He responded shakily
"Wonderful, My name is Isley, Pamela Isley. Donna's Homeroom and Botany teacher" Pamela uttered in introduction
"Are you perhaps Donna's guardian for today?"
"Actually yes" Bruce responded, rubbing Donna's head closer to him
"I see, what is your relationship with Donna?" Pamela asked, her eyebrow raising with curiosity
"Well… he's my brother" Donna responded
"You never mentioned having a brother before"
"Well technically… he is my brother— in law…" Donna slowly uttered, biting her lip of anticipation
Shock came unto Bruce upon hearing this alongside Pamela's surprise
"Your sister is dating Bruce Wayne?"
"I guess that is the case, Teacher Isley…" Donna nervously uttered, giving Bruce a side-eye glance
Out of nowhere, a voice yet again caught their attention
"Sorry I'm late!"
Donna turned to this voice instantly, this voice without a doubt belongs to someone she is very familiar with
And just as she did, she received a pinch on her cheek
"What were you thinking hiding such an important event from me?"
It was Diana, wearing a nice scarf over her head hiding her features in discreet. She was wearing a nice pink dress shirt alongside a loose cocktail skirt.
Despite her disguise, Bruce knew damn well who this lady was
"I'm sorry I was late, Miss Isley"
"Oh we haven't started yet, Ms. Wayne"
Upon hearing those words, Bruce immediately fell into a deep guise of shock and confusion. He instantly turned his attention to the lady beside him with a shy expression
Donna was also looking at him with a toothy grin, she was finding this very amusing
"Anyways, I have to attend to the other students now. We're gonna start the event in a few minutes now" Pamela uttered as she drifted off to the other direction
A sudden surge of silence filled the mood between the three with Donna in the middle. Bruce was not expecting such revelation
Diana heaved out an exhale, as she slowly turned to Bruce
"It's uhh…"
"I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that. Don't worry about it." He responded sharply
Diana nodded slowly upon hearing this
Donna watches them closely with a smile on her face, delighted seeing them together in this setting
"You have some explaining to do, sister" she uttered with a smile
"I believe you're the one who owes me an explanation, Donna" Diana stated
"Why did you hide those letters from me? If I haven't found them, then I wouldn't have known"
"Well I thought that you would be very busy to even come…"
"I would never choose any job or duties over you Donna, you know that already" Diana responded sincerely, cupping her sister's cheeks to look into her eyes
And so the two shared a nice embrace with their eyes closed. Donna opens her eyes and sees Bruce watching them with a smile on his face
She beamed him a nice smile of sincerity which he responded with a wink himself
xXx
And so the event started, the morning was full of games and excitements that everyone enjoyed. It is evident from Donna's face that she was having fun throughout being with her sister.
Bruce however contemplated to himself, on why on earth he is still hanging around if Donna has Diana now. He sat from a distance, sitting nicely on the picnic blanket laid on the nice grass bed.
Good thing Alfred was quick on his feet and delivered the picnic blanket, basket and the other things that he requested immediately, also the fact that he rescheduled the meeting for the day after tomorrow
It was almost lunch as the students and their parents went back to their respective picnic blankets. Donna didn't bring any picnic blanket or basket with her but thankfully, a certain Bruce Wayne was there to save the day
"Thank you for this, Bruce. You're the best brother-in-law a girl could ever have!" Donna squealed in delight, raising her voice to make sure Diana could hear properly
Diana took the bait and immediately bolted her curiosity
"Wait… brother-in-law?" Diana spurted out in surprise
"What do you mean brother-in-law?"
The girl fell silent for a few seconds, fidgeting her fingers as an indication of nervousness as her gaze fell to Bruce whom gave her a "don't drag me into this" look
"Well— I kinda introduced Bruce as my… brother-in-law…"
"Donna!"
"Well I'm sorry, you are particularly asking for it already with the last name!"
Diana's face went red as a tomato upon hearing that, especially with him beside her, hearing the whole thing.
She slowly turned to Bruce who was whistling to himself, his gaze away from them. It is evident that he is trying to make it seem like he didn't hear anything
He responded to her gaze with his own, Diana's embarrassed face says a lot even without saying a word
"I can explain…"
"Of what? I didn't hear anything"
"You did"
"I didn't."
"Well you see— I had no other ideas on my mind on what name to use, so I kinda… used yours"
"You just had to bring it up again" Bruce stated in disappointment, brushing his face with his palm
"Well I thought that you wanted to know" Diana responded in defense
Bruce held both of her shoulders in place as he looked at her
"I DO want to know, but I don't want you to be put in an embarrassing situation so I just brushed it all to the side"
Seeing his face up close made Diana tongue-tied. Her mouth was sealed close with her chest pounding a series of beats
"So you did it for me?"
"Yes, obviously…" Bruce responded
"We can just talk about this later; we don't want to spoil your sister's day, do we?"
Diana nodded in response with a smile on her face
And speaking of her sister, she completely forgot about the presence of a certain little Amazon with them.
"That was so sweet!" Donna uttered, holding her smart phone to them
"You were taking pictures!?" Diana grunted
"And footage" Donna admitted confidently, she then moved away from her as much distance as possible
Diana followed her, her expression in a mixture of embarrassed and anger. She definitely is trying to get a hold of her sister's smart phone
And just like that, Donna drifted away, running away from them with her smart phone on her hand
"Now you come back here!" Diana grunted, chasing after her in the process
Bruce watched the two of them chase each other like cheetahs in a jungle. They seem to be having fun so he didn't see anything wrong. As he reached out for the picnic basket, he noticed that there were no sandwiches left.
It was at that moment Bruce noticed the multiple tissue wrappers on the picnic basket just across
Bruce heaved out a sigh, as a smile forms on his face
"Good Grief.."
xXx
It was already afternoon, and a sudden rainfall filled the park to the park. The event ended early because of this as everyone went home already. Except for two certain Amazons playing under the rain, Donna had spare clothes but Diana didn't have any, but that didn't stop her from having the fun
Bruce however sat distant from the scene, there's no damn way he is gonna be wet in his suit on. Of course, what do you expect from Amazons, catching a cold from the rain would be the least of their worries
After an hour of pure enjoyment, Diana and Donna finally retires to their own picnic blankets under the shade of a big oak tree where Bruce sat
Both dripping wet, Bruce presented them a nice towel from the picnic basket.
"Thank you, Bruce." Diana uttered
"You should've joined us, it was very fun!" Donna added
Bruce scoffed, not even entertaining the thought of drenching his nicely tailored suit with the rain. But probably wouldn't be that bad, after all, he used to play under the rain when he was young
His gaze was then shifts on a certain brunette looking for something on the picnic basket
"Looking for something?"
Diana bolted awake, quite taken aback by his voice. She wasn't expecting to be caught whatsoever
"Just looking for something to snack" she responded with a toothy grin
"After you literally ate every sandwich inside?"
"You knew!?"
"Of course" Bruce answered as he picked up one of the tissues lying on the blanket
"You leave such careless evidences. You would definitely be a terrible criminal one day, Diana"
Donna chuckled in the background upon hearing that
"I guess that's why he's the World's Greatest Detective" she jested which came with a yawn
The little Amazon then lays on her sister's lap with her eyes shut of exhaustion.
Diana's gaze fell upon her with a smile on her face. Upon doing so, she noticed something about the whole thing
"You really prepared for all this huh Bruce" Diana uttered
"Of course, I was a kid once and I knew how these picnics operate. I knew for a fact it would rain in the afternoon"
"No, I mean… prepared all these for my sister" Diana slowly uttered
"You really can be sweet at times, you know"
She gave him a side-eye glance as she bit her lip in anticipation. Diana didn't realize until sooner how suggestive that sounded
"Like I said, I was a kid once and I know how these picnics are held" Bruce responded
Diana's eyes gleamed upon hearing this. They would turn narrow eventually as her left eyebrow rises up of curiosity
"Oh, I didn't know the Dark Knight of Gotham was a kid once" She teased confidently, still drying her hair
"What are you saying?" Bruce asked
"That I am sulky my whole life who didn't have a childhood?"
"Now I didn't say that, but I guess you described it perfectly Bruce" Diana teased again, resting her head on his shoulder with her eyes closed
"It's actually quite the opposite." She added
"So you're saying I'm childish?" Bruce asked
Diana opened her eyes, her expression shifts into a sudden melancholy, quite sentimental as she realized something about Bruce.
"I know about how sad your childhood I feel like you're just compensating on your wasted years. That's how I see it Bruce"
Hearing this surprised Bruce, he instantly looked at her resting on his shoulder with such a peaceful look on her face.
"How do you do that?"
"Do what?"
It's like she can see right through him, despite his thick walls of despair, Diana would always find her way to reach him. No matter how much he pushes her away
She would always find her way back to him
The sudden silence made Diana feel uncomfortable all of a sudden as she opened her eyes and looked at Bruce who was just staring at her
"Bruce?"
He was dumbstrucked, not knowing what to say or what to do. Right here in front of him is a person who he just cannot fool or deceive. Someone who had pierced through his deepest insecurities and anxiety, and instead of making it worse, she had healed them eventually, making it better as time goes
Her sapphire eyes staring at him, a combination of purity and sincerity. The same eyes that had captivated him is right there, watching him closely
She was different, he always knew this. Not like any other woman in the world, like a gem hidden deep in the most secluded cave in the world.
The man who would get to have Diana would be the most darn luckiest man in the history indeed.
They just both stared at each other, no regard for the time or their surroundings whatsoever.
It didn't help that the rain was letting up and they were stranded under a tree which only added to the feel of passion hovering in the air
The sound of raindrops, the cold breeze of the wind…
How nice her lips looked up close…
"Bruce"
"Yeah?"
"What are you thinking right now?"
Doubt filled his mind, whether he should tell her or not. He wasn't sure if he should but she would see right through him if he would lie anyways
"You." Bruce responded slowly
"I only have you on my mind right now."
A warm smile crept on Diana's rosebud lips, for a second there, Bruce saw shimmer on her sapphire eyes. A glow that one could mistake for glistening diamonds
"Same here" she whispered softly, anticipating for something to happen with her eyes closed and lips shivering
Diana is someone that is special to him, someone remarkable, delicate and irreplaceable. There are thousands of words to describe her for him but the notion stays the same
Her happiness is his happiness, regardless if he would be a part of it or not. All that he knows is that Diana deserves everything in the world. Her value is worth more than any diamond in the deepest depths of this planet
With Diana leaning on his shoulder, Bruce extended his arm to pull her closer to him. Hoping his warmth would be enough for her shivering body
She opened her eyes to meet his, it was like magic how they just stared at each other for a few moments.
Bruce immediately looked away, not liking where it is going. Diana however snuggled closer to him, her eyes not leaving despite him looking away
He knew the risks and the dangers, the perils of letting Diana in. But he fears that his darkness might engulf her one day, tainting her purity with his despair.
Ever since that fateful day in that alley, Bruce had kept his true self from others. The pain and anguish that he chooses to suffer alone instead of having someone to lean on
But all of that changed, when Diana came into his life.
The afternoon was getting colder but it didn't matter to Diana, being close with Bruce and having her sister on her lap is most especially precious. Moments like this should be cherished
The surge of silence was then defeated when suddenly Bruce spoke...
"When I was a kid, I remember having picnics like this from the school. I remember watching the other kids playing with their parents while I sat there… alone."
Diana could see the struggle in his eyes, opening up isn't his strongest suit, but somehow he did anyways
She slowly held his hand to remind him that he doesn't need to be alone anymore. Bruce then looked at her with uncertainty brewing
"That is all in the past now, Bruce. I am here, you'll never have to be alone again." Diana soothed sincerely
She cupped his cheek with her left hand, trying to comfort the grieving orphan inside of him. He may be the infamous Bruce Wayne or the Batman, but all that she sees at the moment is a child who lost everything at such a young age
Bruce caresses her hand in response
"What are you doing to me?" he whispered
"I know it hurts deep inside, but just know that I'm always here for you Bruce. Take your time, you'll find me"
It was all he needed… she was all he needed.
He didn't need time… He needed her…
The rain continues to fall, with only the shade of a tree protecting them from being wet. Bruce eventually realized that it was getting late
"We better get going…" Bruce stated, as he rose to stand up
Diana held his hand firm, not wanting to let go, not wanting to separate from his warmth
"Just a few more moments please" she whispered with her eyes closed, snuggling closer to him even more
Knowing there's no way to shrug her anyways, Bruce decided to spoil her a little bit longer
A smile of comfort forms on her lips again, her hot breath aching to escape but her voice was slow, and her heart pounding hard with the warmth that she feels close to him.
The sound of raindrops and the ambient feel of the cold breeze only added to the emotions brewing inside of her for him. She never wanted to let him go…
"I wish we can stay like this forever"
