There was still a little bit of traffic in the street where the heroes and Sebastien were at right now. Their first stop while visiting Paris was visiting Picpus Cemetery, the resting place of America's favorite Frenchman, Marquis de Lafayette, who was like a son to George Washington himself. At last, they were almost there to the next bus stop, which was close to the cemetary. Luna could hardly wait to see much more of Paris int he days to come, and neither can her brother.
"The streets look more narrow here." Lincoln admitted
"Oui, that's just how roads are in Europe, Lincoln." said Dr Sebastien. "But, it's not just that, but we have different license plates than we do in America. Unlike Britain, we still drive on the right side of ze road."
"Wait, British people have different steering wheels?" asked Jesse.
"Nah, but they drive on the left side." Luna politely answered him.
"Oh! And outlets." said Sam. "Me and my family have been to England a few times before and the outlets are different than America. You should see them when you visit there, Luna."
"How come you never take me with you?"
"Well, they're more of family trips, Luna." Sam sounded a little sheepish and a little embarrassed. "My parents wanted the trips to be a family vacation only."
"Oh. I understand, brah." Luna gently patted her girlfriend on the back. "No hard feelings. I don't want to get in the way of you, your parents, and Simon. Speaking of which, how is Simon?"
"He's doing okay. I wish he was here." Sam admitted. "He would have loved to be here, if he wasn't so hooked on his video games so much. On the other hand, he might become a great EA sports player." she rested her arms behind her back while sitting in the tour bus. A couple of other people didn't know what to make of the visiting Americans who were the superheroes, except for Lincoln, who looked pretty normal. Many others recognized the heroes for their heroic deeds in the USA, which was a relief. It wouldn't be a long drive to the Picpus cemetery, which was only many blocks away from where the bus was now.
It took a little bit of three minutes, but they all finally arrived at the Picpus cemetery. The place looked like any other enclosed cemetery, and there were different kinds of gravestones in the area, but one difference, that caught all the kids' eyes, was on the far right at the end of this cemetery, was a larger headstone and a larger grave. Not only that, but there were also banners of Americana and French flags alike. They all knew what tombstone this was. The young heroes rushed towards it to have a closer look at it.
The headstone was definitely bigger than the other headstones carved in this very place. "There he is." said Lincoln. "This guy must have been a big hero."
"He was." said Mason. "He is America's favorite Frenchman as stated."
"In World War 1," said Sebastien, "When ze Americans landed in France, American general Charles E Stanton laid zis American flag on the tombstone and he said 'Lafayette, we have arrived'. Zis flag is a very important symbol for zis cemetery.
"Dang." said Jesse. "That is cool."
"And, there were many victims from the Reign of Terror near the Place de la Revolution in the French Revolution." Mason pointed
"Eesh, that must have been awful." said Sam, having an uneasy feeling.
"It was. When the terror commenced, every day was execution day." said Sebastien. "But that was a long time ago, and it was when Napoleon took over France as it's rightful emperor. Let me tell you all, he had contributed so many things for all of France after ze disastrous revolution." Around the area, the others decided to have a little look around the cemetery and look at the other headstones placed for other dead people here in this ancient sight.
"There is also another place where many heroes and well-known people are buried: "Les Invalides, which has Napoleon and great military leaders buried, then there's the Pantheon, but we can do it later on if you want." Sebastien explained.
"Well, I wish I had some flowers to place on Lafayette's grave." said Jesse. "He deserves all the respect in the world, especially from America. Maybe there's a flower shop nearby?"
"Let me look on the map." Lincoln pulled out his phone and saw a nearby flower shop that was titled "La Rouge Rose" on it. "Ah, it's only two blocks from here."
"Nice! Good find, lil Loud." Jesse gently patted his back.
"Well, we can look over there for a good flower to place on Lafayette's tombstone, and you can pick whichever flower you want." Sebastien smiled. He gave them at least fifty euros to spend and arriving at the flower shack, everyone said: "Bonjour!" to the male employee, who was a teenager with blond hair.
The counter man smiled and replied: "Bonjour, bienvenue! Comment allez vous?"
"Ca va bien." Lincoln replied
"Moi aussi." Luna added
The counter man smiled and was happy to hear those words. "What can I do you all for?"
"We're looking for some flowers to place on Lafayette's Grave, mon ami." said Sam.
"Have you any flourettes at all, monsieur?" Jesse asked. "Et, Je comprends, en peu le Francais."
"Well that quite alright. You are trying so that's what matters, mes amis. And I can point you to ze perfect flowers to pay respect for ze Marquis. Come with me, I'll show you ze best selection for a cheap price. There was a discount shelf with sunflowers, daisies, roses, lavender, Rhododendrons, chrysanthemums, and others. These flowers were perfect and they all costed ten euros for each bouquet. "Is zat all for today?"
"Oui, merci beaucoup." Lincoln smiled.
"Come right up to the counter, and we will get ze pay sorted out." After the flowers were purchased, they bid the nice, blonde man farewell and the heroes were back in the cemetery, ready to pay their respects to this fallen, great man in history. Luna was first to lay the flowers on the grave, then Mason, the Lincoln, then Sam, then Jesse.
They all closed their eyes and put their right fists on their chests, and all said in unison: "Repose en Paix."
