Morty was twitching around on the ground in the garage. Rick had just taken him on an adventure in which he had broken both of his legs, shoved some giant, spiky seeds up his own butt, and killed a bunch of people that were just doing their jobs.

Now he finds out that he has a learning impairment, just in time to start seizing. The only good thing was that for these few moments he was much smarter than usual. 'It's actually pretty nice to be able to understand most of what's happening. I wish I was smart all the time.'

And with that thought, an ambition was born. It was clear that Rick could make Morty smarter if he wished; it was also clear that he didn't wish to do so. What neither Rick nor Morty had realized, though, was that the rejuvenating serum that Rick had injected into Morty earlier hadn't completely run its course, yet. That serum, combined with the dissolving Mega-seeds in Morty's colon, would help Morty to retain some of this boost to his intelligence.

Morty and his grandpa were in the garage, after having just said goodbye to his, now hyper-intelligent, dog, who was on his way to building a dog society in another dimension. As Morty turns back to go up to his room, he sees Rick put the intelligence boosting helmet in a box on the shelf.

"Hey, why do you have that? I thought Snuffles took it with him?" Morty wouldn't put it past Rick to steal it right at the last minute, though he was pretty sure that Snuffles had indeed had it on when he left.

"What exactly are you accusing me of, Morty? Snowball built himself a new one that was included in his mechanical exoskeleton!"

Morty acted contrite (though they both knew that it would not have been out of character of Rick to try to ruin the dogs' victory at the last moment) and went up to his room. Later that night, however, Morty was back in the garage and had the helmet on his head.

'Here goes nothing!' With the thing now turned on, Morty knew that the higher intelligence that he had wanted was not going to be this easy to obtain. Sure it was working, but it would quickly overheat his brain and kill him; besides which, Rick would notice the missing helmet, and wearing it wasn't exactly inconspicuous. He also knew that if he could get more of that healing serum from before that he could wear the helmet longer, but there was nothing that Rick protected better than his portal gun.

He took off the helmet and went to bed.

Morty lied in bed, exhausted, both physically and emotionally. He had just set in motion the events that led to the destruction of his whole world. And Rick had been right about the "love potion" Morty had asked for; it did basically amount to date-rape. His family was doomed to live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and everyone else he knew was either dead or mutated beyond recognition. He had even had to bury himself in the backyard.

So now he was just lying in bed reflecting on his actions. 'I've got to do better.'

Something was bothering him, though. Some little thought that there was something he should have noticed.

Then it hit him. Rick buried his doppelganger in the backyard, along with his portal gun.

Morty was in the backyard before he could consciously realize why that was important. In no time, he dug up the portal gun. Luckily, the dirt was still soft, which made the job easier and made it impossible to tell what he had done, since the dirt was already turned up.

Secreting it up to his room, he thought about what his next move should be. Luckily, the portal gun was very user friendly. He was able to find any universe he needed by concentrating on what parameters he wanted it to have. He could even save presets so he could easily return to a previous universe. This one was already set to "home" which made sense.

Morty went down to the garage and grabbed a wagon from when he was a kid and put a big box in it. Then he portaled to his home universe (the Cronenberged one). Once there, he started loading the box in the wagon with all the stuff of Ricks that he knew what it was, including the intelligence-boosting helmet, the Meeseeks box, and the portable version of Rick's shrink and grow ray.

Just as he was finishing loading up the wagon, Summer burst into the garage wielding a baseball bat. As soon as she saw that it was him, she dropped the bat and grabbed Morty in a hug.

"Oh, god, Morty! I've been so worried about you! I thought you were probably involved with grandpa with whatever happened to change everyone, but we couldn't find you!" Morty was momentarily surprised by this, but quickly hugged her back.

"I'm glad you're okay, Summer. How are Mom and Dad?"

Summer smiled a little, "It's kind of crazy; I think they are happier now than they were before everything went to shit." Morty was briefly tempted to ask if they had even worried about him, but he knew immediately that he didn't want confirmation that they hadn't.

"Well, I'm glad that you're all okay. Come on, I have a portal gun. I'm taking you to a universe where you'll be safe." However, Morty was surprised that Summer replied by shaking her head.

"Mom and Dad are not going to want to leave, Morty. I wouldn't be surprised if they break the portal devise to keep you here, either. You need to go before they find you here."

"No, we need to go. I'm not leaving you here, Summer."

"I can't. I can't just abandon Mom and Dad in this wasteland, Morty." Morty could see that Summer was serious about this. She looked close to tears.

"Okay, Summer, if that's what you want." He had no intention of letting his sister live like this, but he wasn't going to argue with her about it.

Morty was back in the now Cronenberged C-137, looking at his sleeping sister.

It had been a few weeks since the incident that ruined this world.

He had actually set up a headquarters here in this universe, in the secret lab that Rick had set up under the garage. Morty had sealed up every entrance and exit so the only way in or out was a portal gun.

He had made the trip to the world the healing serum was developed on. He now had enough serum stockpiled to use whenever he needed it. He wasted no time using the helmet to make himself into a genius, keeping his brain from cooking by using the serum.

He had spent some time modifying himself so that he no longer needed the helmet. He did this by building robots, which he then shrank down and sent inside himself to build cybernetics directly onto the cellular structure of his body. He was now stronger, tougher, and, most importantly, smarter.

He wouldn't advertise it, though. He knew that both Rick and Jerry enjoyed being smarter than him and would, therefor, try to reverse what he had done to himself.

Now he was here to save his sister.

He had found a universe that was exactly what he wanted for her. The Rick of that universe had apparently died before returning to live with them. On top of that, Beth and Jerry (now that he was smarter, Morty could clearly see how awful and selfish both of his parents were; he no longer thought of them as Mom and Dad) had divorced years ago, with Beth remarrying to someone who was actually a good father to the Morty and Summer of that universe.

The Summer of that world slipped in the shower and died that evening. Morty had already planted her body in the shower of this universe and was now going to sedate his sister and transpose her to her new home. Once there, he had a note for her detailing all the ways that the new universe was different than her home one, and apologizing for doing this, though he was sure it was the right thing to do.
