Bulma watched as Goku and Vegeta trained. Vegeta, embarrassed to have never achieved the third super saiyan form, having just skipped over it, was now pushing himself against Goku in an effort to unlock that form.

Goku was, naturally, already in that form in order to push Vegeta as hard as possible.

Bulma was only here watching because she didn't really have anything better to do at the moment, and she was in the mood to ogle some strong, sweaty men.

Time came, though, for a break and the two saiyans came over to her to re-hydrate, Goku dropping the transformation as he walked.

"Hey," Bulma asked. "What's the deal with your hair in that state, anyway? Why would more power just suddenly induce hair growth?"

Goku just shrugged, but Vegeta replied. "I'm not sure about that either. Saiyan hair is different from most other species in that it doesn't usually grow past a certain point. It is odd that one of our transformations specifically breaks that norm."

Goku suddenly started snickering. Vegeta and Bulma both look at him in confusion, so he replies, "I just remembered by brother, Raditz. You remember what his hair was like, right? What do you think he'd look like in super saiyan 3?"

Bulma released a sudden guffaw, surprised by the mental image, while Vegeta looked disgusted. "Urgh. That loser could never reach any form of super saiyan. Still, I admit it would look extremely odd. He'd be more hair than person."

Bulma, still chuckling, says, "What about your old partner, Vegeta? Was he naturally bald, or did he just shave his head? And what would happen if he went super saiyan? Would his hair grow back for the transformation, or would his facial hair turn gold?"

Vegeta rolls his eyes as Goku breaks down into uncontrollable belly laughs. "He shaved his head. He said it was more practical in battle. Before, I would have said that his facial hair would turn golden, if there was any visual indication of the transformation at all, but, with what we've seen of super saiyan 3, I suppose we can't rule out spontaneous hair growth." Vegeta was, momentarily, distracted by a mental image of Nappa in super saiyan 3, with no hair on his head, but a giant golden beard.

Bulma nods, hmming. Then, struck by another thought, she asks, "Hey, what happens to the hair when you drop the super saiyan 3 transformation? Does it disintegrate, or, I don't know, does it suck back up into your head? What does that feel like?"

Goku, shocked, said, "Um, I don't know! Let's check!"

Bulma always thought the fighters looked pretty silly while they stood around screaming when they powered up. Still, watching now, it was clear that the hair was actually growing, rather than just coming into existence.

It would make sense that it would work in reverse when the transformation ended, but she'd just wait to see what happens in person.

When the transformation finishes, Bulma busts out laughing again. Vegeta just looks at her and waits for her to get herself together and explain whatever she found funny. Goku just looks on in confusion.

Bulma, still desperately laughing, manages to weakly say "Maybe she's born with it" between laughs.

Vegeta, getting the reference, just facepalms, while Goku remains confused, not getting it. Vegeta doesn't explain the joke to Goku, a little put out by the mocking of one of the most powerful transformations of his proud race.

Finally, Bulma calms down enough to pay attention.

When Goku powers down again, the hair does, indeed, shrink back into his scalp. "Oh, wow!" exclaims Goku. "Now that I'm paying attention to it, I can feel it happening! That's so weird!"

"Yeah!" agrees Bulma. "I guess I just expected it to disappear or something. Hey, Goku, transform back for a second. I want to test what happens if we give you a haircut in that form."

Goku, excited to be playing around with something he didn't know about himself, agrees. Vegeta, frustrated, just begins to walk off.

"Hey, where are you going, grumpy pants?" calls Bulma. "I thought you wanted to learn this transformation?" she asks as she is brushing Goku's long, golden locks.

"I changed my mind," replies Vegeta. "Super saiyan 3 is too silly."
