Legal Disclaimer: The following is a fan-based take on RWBY which was created by Monty Oum (RIP) and Rooster Teeth. There will be some minor (or possible major) crossovers which belong to their respective owners. I own nothing but the concepts for Team YUKI.

(We're here for Volume 4, the volume that slowed it all down to a crawl. Although, considering Vale and Beacon are not completely destroyed like in canon, Ozpin's still around, things are different. Different paths are made. Also, I read up on the novels through blogs and trope pages, and I'm going to say about what I seen has displeased. Pretty much shitting on characters or making other characters awful in their actions. So, what does this mean? I am going to have to handle Vacuo all by myself and replace Shade's headmaster while shredding canon.)

Please enjoy the opening and ending themes.

[Nujabes – Battlecry (feat. Shing02)]

[Shing02:]
Sharp like an edge of a samurai sword
The mental blade cut through flesh and bone
Though my mind's at peace, the world out of order
Missing the inner heat, life gets colder
Oh yes, I have to find my path
No less, walk on earth, water, and fire
The elements compose a magnum opus
My modus operandi is amalgam
Steel packed tight in microchip
On my armor a sign of all-pro
The ultimate reward is honor, not awards
At odds with the times in wards with no lords

A freelancer
A battle cry of a hawk make a dove fly and a tear dry
Wonder why a lone wolf don't run with a clan
Only trust your instincts and be one with the plan

Some days, some nights
Some live, some die
In the way of the samurai
Some fight, some bleed
Sun up to sun down
The sons of a battlecry

Some days, some nights
Some live, some die
In the name of the samurai
Some fight, some bleed
Sun up to sun down
The sons of a battlecry

Volume 4, Episode 1: Assessing the Damage

(Several days after the events of Vol. 3)

[Shade Academy]

"Do you have any idea how furious I am with you?"

Team NDGO stood nervous in front of their headmistress. For as much as Vacuo did not have much of a central government, there were a bit of order in the chaos. At the center of it was the headmistress of Shade, the de facto leader, Isis Gnomon known throughout Vacuo as Desert Queen. Her skin normally rather pale, but the years in the deserts given her a mild tan. She stood tall towering over the sitting Team NDGO, and it not helped that like Ironwood, she did not dress like a typical headmaster. Her shoulder length blackish-grey hair in a modern pixie cut, her brown eyes piercing, and her black lipstick and make up give her a matured and gothic look. She still wore the clothes of her days as an active huntress: a grass green spy-style jumpsuit with a belt, holsters for weapons, and armored metallic pads on the shoulders; mesh segments over the lower portions of his limbs black metallic colored heeled boots, grey combat gauntlets that covered much of her arms, a tan overcoat with a collar and pockets, a necklace with a grey medallion, and dark colored aviator sunglasses.

[Cues: Kevin MacLeod – Spy Glass]

"It's bad enough that Vacuo has a bad reputation among the other kingdoms. The fact you four decided to turn tail and flee Vale instead of helping your fellow huntsman and civilians is a disgusting act of cowardice!" Isis said smashing her fist on her desk. "What do you have to say for yourself?"

"In all due respect, it was a lost cause. We had to retreat." Nebula said calmly. "It's not our school to defend."

"Escaping was a hassle in itself…we had to use bai-" Octavia said before Nebula covered her mouth.

Too bad, Isis caught that and wanted an explanation. Nebula and Octavia played dumb, so Isis looked to Dew, their weak link. Isis got up and told everyone to get out of her office except for Dew.

"And if you of you leave to scramble off, I will personally deal with you three." Isis said as the three teammates left the room.

Nebula giving Dew the look and mouthing, 'Not a word', before they closed the door. The moment they did, Isis pulled the switch under her desk to seal and soundproof the moon.

[Cues: Black Lagoon OST – Dark Side of Moon]

Isis calmly got up getting out a hefty combat knife before throwing at Dew's head. It missed her embedding itself on the wall as Isis grabbed her scaled top before glaring at her.

"I'm going to going to say this one. You're going to tell me everything or you're not going to like what I do to you." Isis said icily raising her gauntlets. "Especially when your teammates will just flee to save their own skin."

The arm blades came out against Dew's neck. Dew began to sweat as Isis's eyes were telling that she was quite to killing to slice her throat.

"So be a good little coward…and squeal." Isis said as the blades retracted.

Dew sang like a canary. She could see every word was getting her more and more livid. By the time it was over, Dew knew Isis was holding back urges to slice her to shreds. Isis simply went back to her desk and opened up the doors calling for the rest of the team to come in. As they did, Isis took a breath.

"You know, Theodore insisted you were the golden team, but I'm convinced the man's only capable of seeing combat capability and not the fact that he was dealing with self-serving cowards." Isis said glaring at them. "Dew told me everything."

"You what? You were supposed…" Nebula said before Isis got up.

Isis front-flipped over the team, grabbing her knife, and flipped back into her seat.

"Silence! Nebula, Octavia, I can't believe you used an injured team of hunters-in-training as Grimm bait to aid in your escape!" Isis roared.

Before Nebula could even speak, Isis was up and had her by her throat slamming her into the desk with knife at Nebula's jugular.

"What was the name of the team you left behind?! Answer me!" Isis screeched.

"It was Team BRNZ…they were fighting cybernetic Grimm. Nebula said we were going to help, but she told Octavia to shoot them in the back and let them get eaten by the Grimm." Dew said shamefully. "I wanted to go back…get them help, but Nebula wouldn't have it."

Isis tossed Nebula to the ground and planted her boot on Nebula's throat before looking to Gwen. Isis was actually mad, but the fact that they shot a fellow Shade in the back made her explode.

"I want you to go on my computer to check of the deceased on the attack. Now!" Isis said as Octavia rose. "Not you!"

Dew did it out of hoping that they were alive only to pale at the status.

"They're all dead…except May. She's in a coma." Dew said mortified.

Isis got off Nebula taking her up by her collar before tossing her to her team.

"Much to my grief, I can't charge you four for your actions to getting those three killed and one put in a coma." Isis snarled. "But I can, as your headmistress, call for your immediate expulsion from Shade Academy and a blacklisting."

"What?! You can't do that. The-"

"I don't give a flying fuck what he thinks. He thinks he can undermine my authority and question me beating him for the title of headmaster thinking Qrow Branwen is worthy of running this place. Theo has fucked up plenty. He let the Crown fester and ally with the goddamned Salem Cult. The number of scientists hiding in the kingdom preforming all kinds of ungodly experiments on orphaned children that he let happen because of his ignorance. Yeah, no, don't think he'll save your skin." Isis said cracking her knuckles. "I want you out of my academy in the next twenty minutes."

"You'll regret what you have done." Nebula said getting up to her feet. "When our fans hear about this…"

"I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure your fans won't cheering for you when you're revealed to be a murderer." Isis said.

"You'd be surprised."

With that, Team NDGO scurried back as Isis poured herself a cup of hot chocolate before tossing in marshmallows it before drinking. Her sweet tooth usually came out after dealing with crap like this because she knew she had paperwork to deal with.

"I need to make some calls." She thought.

She thumbed her medallion that sported a symbol long lost to time.

"If only we had more time…" She said bitterly.

Team BRNZ was practically dead and gone due to the selfishness of another. Of course, there was going to be justice for them. She would make sure of it.

[Cues: Teaching Feeling - Deep Scarlet]

"So, you're just going to be leaving us? After what happened? For some random girl!" Scarlet snapped at his leader. "Sun, I love you like a brother, but you're thinking with your damn dick!"

"Scarlet, it's not like that! I'm going with Blake to Menagerie, the faunus motherland. I did want to help her, but I had to go alone with her because Lapis insisted on a small squadron." Sun said explaining his case.

"I get it. Besides not like we'd blend in Faunus land." Neptune said as Sun finished his speech. "Just come back in one piece to us, bro."

Neptune was also glad that he was not being asked to go considering the place was an island surrounded by ocean.

"And we'll be waiting for you." Sage said as Scarlet stormed out of the room. "And don't worry about Scarlet, he's just taking it pretty hard."

"That's why I've leaving you in charge, Sage. I talked with Khan to approve my leave. I won't be leaving yet. That won't be for about two months. And considering the chaos, our headmistress suggested we stick around Beacon." Sun said with a grin. "And continue to help out."

Neptune gave a supportive nod as he was just glad that he could stick around Weiss. Sun went out to talk to Scarlet who was leaning on the wall of the hall.

"Hey man, I know I'll be leaving you guys, but it won't be forever." Sun said to his teammate. "It's not even happening right now."

Scarlet scowled.

"Ever since you've gotten to Beacon, it's Blake this and Blake that." Scarlet said eyeing him coldly. "I got the hots for Yuki, but you don't see me acting like a simpleton for him."

"Dude, I've seen you stare at him from afar. I'd say go talk to him, but I'm pretty sure he's straight. Regardless, there's another reason I'm doing this, and it's not because of just Blake. She's let me in on a few things. Well, considering the Grimm King's free, the shit about Salem's public knowledge now."

Ozpin was thankfully grateful that Yuki did not tell the public about whole story with Salem. It had allowed for Ozpin to take control of the narrative to shift focus to the Grimm King given Salem was no longer a threat either way.

"But why you?" Scarlet asked.

"Well, I…simply was in the right place at the right time." Sun said jovially before turning serious. "But even then, just know I have your back, no matter what."

"I know…I just…never mind." Scarlet said with a groan.

Up in Ozpin's office, Peach came in on request of the Ozpin to see him. As she came in, she noted that Qrow and Glynda were also there.

"Peach, I see you changed up your hair." Glynda said trying to ease the mood. "I like it."

Peach's peach-orange hair was now a warmer blonde color with thin ends of orange. She had let most of it down to her shoulders with a bit restrained in a small high ponytail. Peach rolled her eyes at the gesture.

"Thanks…but what's with the invite?" Peach asked.

"I wanted to check in on Yuki's status along with his team. I've been hesitant to call him myself." Ozpin admitted.

"Recovering. The Amazons are aiding in the recovery. Yuki drained himself pretty bad to escape, and he's taking the losses pretty hard. He asked about the other teams. Kelly already left for Atlas with the Schnee family. Lapis is oddly even more quiet than usual, and so is Ivory."

"Yuki shouldn't stress over this. It's not his fault." Glynda said concerned.

"I mean, technically, it is." Qrow said as everyone looked at him. "Look, I know that the alternative is a lot worse. And I see you're sporting the symbol of that t-"

"Yes yes, I'm aware. We all can agree that alternative is worse, much worse." Ozpin said firmly. "Regardless, I'm glad that things are in a much better state and that Team YUKI are still in the game."

"Speaking of them, there's also the matter with the rest of Team RWBY. How are they? Adjusting back to normalcy?" Peach asked.

"They are, but I'm going to have to end the semester early. Vale Council recommended it for the moment. Besides, not like it's going to really stop the rest of team considering what they're going to do." Ozpin said as Qrow asked what he meant by that.

"Seeing that Ozpin technically made them apprentices under Team YUKI, they can learn outside of the classroom which can count as credit. All that was required was a minimum of several months class time and approval from me." Glynda said confidently. "And Ozpin made it easier for me by not getting in the way."

"Wait, what? You trust Yuki alone with my nieces?" Qrow remarked. "He's barely a huntsman, himself."

"True, that's why I'm going with him as the head honcho." Peach said with a smirk. "Real shame you didn't sign up for that."

Qrow looked to Ozpin who sighed.

"Out of my hands." Ozpin admitted.

Plus, with Peach and Glynda at his neck, he knew he could not exactly protest. At the moment, dealing with Salem was more the focus.

"There's also another matter…being Salem. Or at least, what's left of her forces. Hazel Reinhart, Tyrian Callows, and Arthur Watts are still MIA. Add on top of the fact that there's the escapees from Oxford and the leftover cultists." Peach recalled.

"Jase Rustblade and Elsa Haban. My mistakes led to their freedom." Ozpin said looking weary.

"Like with Yuki, it's not your fault. They took advantage…but I need to know if you got any information." Peach asked.

"I got something on the ice dragon. From what my sources say, she's apparently washed her hands of the White Fang. But I've got no leads to where she is now." Qrow remarked. "Honestly, Mao should have just killed the both of them."

A rare moment of agreement.

"As for Salem's old cronies, Hazel's dead. Vale police found his body…Voyden Grimm got to him. Tyrian and Watts are still unknown, but we have their pictures up on the news." Qrow remarked with a hardened look. "As for the cultists, several were killed, arrested, or scattered to the winds."

"Well, if that's all, I must be going. I have paperwork to file." Peach said leaving the room.

As she was leaving, Jaune was coming in with a serious look on his face.

"Professor Ozpin, I just wanted to ask you something. Could we speak in private?" Jaune said taking a seat.

"Sure, Mr. Arc. Glynda and Qrow were just leaving." Ozpin said as Qrow went out the door with Glynda.

"I wanted to ask if it would be okay if I was taken off-duty to help defend Beacon in a few months…so I could join Lapis in their mission." Jaune said firmly.

"I'm surprised they did not ask for you." Ozpin said as Jaune admitted that Lapis is unaware of this. "And why the request?"

"With all due respect, I'm unsure of I can go into specifics as it's personal. But Lapis needs a familiar face to back up her mission." Jaune explained. "Considering the splitting up for the missions."

Ozpin raised an eyebrow.

"Well, I don't see no reason not to give the ok given you are her apprentice." Ozpin said. "Do you have a plan for your team?"

Jaune nodded and he was sent on his way.

[Cues: JPDE OST (Johnathon Johnson) – Mystery of Magic (Melody)]

Before long, Ozpin was down to the vault walking toward who was within the machine. Salem lay within the confines of the machine still unconscious. Ozpin looked upon her form with a look of mixed emotions.

"You caused so much trouble, and yet somehow you slip out of punishment thank to the Grimm King. I don't even know if the Grimm gunk on you the reason for you was being evil or was it within you all this time." Ozpin said with a pained tone.

The beeps of the heart container were the only sound in the room as Ozpin turned for the elevator. He looked back at her. Despite the years of fighting, he missed the days of having her by his side.

Team CFVY had returned to Vale, but their first stop was the hospital to check on their fellow huntsmen in-training. However, even there, the situation was not exactly great. Team CFVY would meet what was left of Team ABRN, Arslan and Reese. All of them were looking into the hospital room where May Zedong lay.

"By the gods, it's that bad." Coco said sympathetically.

"That Zedong girl lost her whole team, and she's in a coma. I don't want to be her when she wakes up." Reese said in a pained tone. "I heard Professor Azure has put cash down on her treatment. She's getting the best money can buy."

"Yuki must sympathize with her. She has any family?" Velvet asked.

"Orphan." Reese said. "Never thought I'd be so glad to see my parents after learning that."

"All this because a fool accidentally released a great evil into the land. Truly shameful that at the end of the day, people proved to be the greatest evil." Fox said bitterly.

"The question is what the Grimm King is planning to do now that he is free…" Yatsuhashi spoke with a haunted look. "For what it's worth, he did Vale mostly intact."

"And that's what scares me the most, Yatsu." Velvet said shaking her head. "From what I saw of him, he's taking this all…like a giant game to him."

[Patch]

"So, you're leaving the tribe?" Cologne asked as she stood at the docks with Elena.

"Not exactly. It's just Kyrus and I are thinking about our daughters, and it's just we don't think it would be wise to travel with you if the tribe decides to." Elena said trying to ease this to her.

"Now, I would not make you wander while putting your daughters at risk. Know you'll be welcomed back if you must truly leave us." Cologne said warmly.

"Thank you. We still want them to be trained in the amazon way, but I think I may want to go to school to grow up around other children." Elena said thoughtfully. "Kyrus is glad to have them sent off to school."

"Well, in times like this, maybe that's for the best." Cologne admitted. "Not like the tribe is going anywhere. At least the Nekohaten can open in Patch."

While they kept chatting, Toriel was dealing with Taiyang and his reasonable anxiety concerned his daughters being dragged into the fight. He knew Ruby's eyes would be a guiding light, but he wished it did not have to be her at the same time.

"I would not worry. You raised your daughters well, and if anything, they'll be tough as nails." Toriel said comforting.

"Speaking of which, what did you do about those two flunkies of that Cinder woman?" Taiyang asked.

"I would prefer you not call them flunkies. Emerald, I've decided to adopt. Poor thing just wants a mother. As for Mercury, he's opened up a bit. Opting to live on his own, but he comes up often. He's working security for the building." Toriel said with a chuckle. "Pretty sure, he and her are dating."

"Security? With you? With you being a giant? I'd be more afraid of you." Taiyang joked.

"Well, I can't be guarding the place. I am a psychologist." Toriel said as Taiyang got up to stretch. "My advice to you is to keep in contact with your daughters as they go on the journey. Don't call too often. Once a week preferably."

"Thanks, doc." Taiyang said going for the door.

As they said their goodbyes, Taiyang left the building to see Mercury and Emerald chatting about something. Something he dismissed as he left for home.

"So, Hazel's dead. Tyrian and Watts are still missing." Emerald said as Mercury nodded. "You don't think they'll come after us?"

"Doubt it. For one, they have no idea Cinder's dead. Even if they do, what reason they have to go after us? What do we know about Salem? As far as they know, we learned about Salem when she became public knowledge." Mercury said with a knowing look. "And if they do come, we'll be ready for them both."

"Just hope that our story's over. Leave that to the heroes and villains." Emerald said.

Puce sat looking over the letter Kelly had sent her with a spot of worry.

Dear Puce,

It's maddening. The Grimm King has thrown everything out of wack. I thought time travel was supposed to make things easier not worse. Well, according to Yuki, we triggered the butterfly effect. He blames himself considering he jumped ahead and killed Cinder letting the cult use her corpse. In all fairness, Cinder was a parasite. If Yuki had not killed her, I would have. And he doesn't need to feel guilty about Adam either. To hell with them both. But there's something else I have to tell you. After Toriel's talk about her time with Whitley, I realized that he's swimming in a sea of mental shit that his parents dumped him in. If anything, I'm more appreciative you've been the mother I needed, Puce. Will I be able to forgive him? Possibly…if anything I've come to be angrier at the parents who enabled this. Yes, Willow has fervently apologized but…it's hard to accept. Right now, our team is now the edge. Yuki's fretting thinking he doomed the world, Lapis is paranoid over Lazuli, and Ivory…she's trying to keep positive. Keep us all together. I…I…I'm scared, Puce.

Sincerely,

Kelly

Of course, the letter was sent to her the day after all of that insanity went down. All it did was bring worries to the future.

"I can't believe you're calling me so late." Ozpin said yawning. "It's near 11."

"Aw, you can't make time for me, Jolly Ozzy."

"Damn it, Isis! We're not kids…stop calling me that." Ozpin said sourly.

"Ozpin, as your twin, it's my duty to tease you. But in all honesty, we need to catch up. It's been a long while." Isis said warmly. "After the shit I went through, I need to vent to someone. Besides, we have bigger issues."

"Bigger issues?" Ozpin asked.

"Yes, that pet cult that worships your ex-wife. Some of its members were seen with a group of usurpers trying to take over Vacuo. Two jackasses think they're royalty. I had a covert team deal with them alongside me, and we managed to crush them. Gillian, we captured…but Jax escaped injured but alive. There's…a concern. The hideout we got to…didn't have dead bodies but blood on the walls." Isis said as Ozpin went sheet white.

"That cult may have been using the Crown. They used corpses we got rid of to revive their dark lord." Ozpin said as Isis looked impassive. "Who could they have revived?"

"I should be asking you." Isis said as Ozpin sighed.

"I hate to admit it, but I'm in the dark about this for the most part. I do know of one man who can help." Ozpin said as Isis chuckled.

"Ah yes, that team you wish was your covert ops team." Isis teased as Ozpin grumbled. "I've heard plenty of Team YUKI. Lapis, herself, has become a bit of a reason the people have been pushing against scientists trying to hide human experimentation on children. But you can patch me through to Yuki, right?"

"I could." Ozpin said.

[Patch]

Yuki Azure stood laying white lilies on the grave of Summer Rose out of a bit of respect before his scroll rang. A scan with his control of it identified the caller to which he answered.

"Isis Gnomon. I don't know who you are, but how you get this number?" Yuki said darkly.

"My brother handed it to me. Ozzy." Isis said as Yuki blinked. "But I can assure you that you can trust me because the sands of time are ever shifting across multiple deserts with their own sand dials."

That got Yuki's eyes narrowed.

"A follower of Chronoa being from Ozpin's family? Bullshit." Yuki said icily.

"Ozma is a reincarnation, so he doesn't count. I have always been followers of the Goddess of Time as was my aunt." Isis said firmly. "Ozpin simply left to follow his beat…of course he is the God of Light's champion."

"Ok, you have my trust…for the moment. What do you need of me?" Yuki asked.

"Help with the Voyden Grimm. We had an incident in Vacuo, the Crown being used by the Salem worshippers." Isis remarked.

"For one, we shouldn't even call them Salem worshippers anymore. After what's been revealed…they pretty much just a cult with no god to worship. Seeing their 'goddess' de-powered and defeated would do that. Though, I fear a split would occur when they wound turn to the Voyden." Yuki said fearfully. "What happened?"

Isis explained everything as Yuki thought it over. The so-called side events of the original world's history were something Chronoa recently shown him in full a few days after Scorched Vale. This got Yuki worried.

"Wait, describe the symbol you saw about the bloodstained walls." Yuki asked before she sent them over as pictures. "Oh…no."

"What is it?" She asked.

"I recognize the flaming Grimm Dragon skull…that's the symbol of Lazuli. That psycho twin of Lapis that controls all manner of heat. I have no idea what she wants after everything is said and done. As for the other symbols, I'm…oh no…this isn't good." Yuki mused.

[Cue Music: Super Smash Bros. Brawl OST – Subspace]

"This isn't the symbol of a Voyden Grimm, but of a man I thought was long dead. Draco Haban…" Yuki said with a sharp growl. "And from the blood markings, he's working with a Voyden Grimm."

"Elsa has family?" Isis asked.

"Yes. Draco is a scientist is pursuit of achieving immortality. Like the other Habans, he's draconic in nature. In fact, his physique is a lot like Elsa's. But his semblance…the one mistake I made in my younger days was never scanning it due to…my standards at the time. He can transform creatures into draconic-like mutants that are loyal to him. He can also feed on their energies to heal himself and his aura…at the cost of killing said mutant. He keeps a lot of animals and I fear what he could do if he got his mitts on any Grimm. I thought Lapis and I had killed him when we blew up his lab after we freed orphaned children he kidnapped. And the Voyden bastard he's walking is one of the lesser minions of the King. Tenarak Grimbane is a sapient Voyden Grimm that looks like a minotaur who obsesses over two things, sex and violence. He'll beat the shit out of anything in his way, and probably fuck it for his amusement. Brawn and brains…what a classic combo." Yuki said bitterly. "Listen, kill the both of them as quickly as possible. Don't give Draco the time to consider trying to use his semblance on Tenarak."

"Thank for you the information. Now there's the matter of returning the favor." Isis said as Yuki cut her off remarking, "Yes, there is something I want. Access to those Crown Twins. They both have semblances I want to obtain for myself. And I will give you the means to ensure Jax won't be an issue…just have Yatsuhashi of Team CFVY use his semblance to make him a catatonic mess. Hell, do it to Gillian too. Then, I can get what I want from him and finish the job."

"I can say ok to Gillian, but I'm not exactly comfortable handing you the key to a mind control semblance. But you are one of Chronoa's blessed, so I will allow this. Tread carefully using it." Isis warned.

"You have a deal. I will request one of my associates join you in Vacuo. When the job is done, I can portal to said associate. Also understand that I want this discrete as a deal in the shadows, stays in the shadows…for good reason." Yuki said firmly.

"I know…you have my word." Isis said quietly. "When should I expect your associate to arrive."

"Very soon, Isis. I bid you goodnight." Yuki said before hanging up.

"The call has been recorded, Yuki." Serena said pinging right next to him. "Who are you going to send?"

"Shampoo. She'll be discrete about this, plus she's been planning to go to Vacuo anyway. Another sister of the Remnant Amazon wishes to return home. She was apparently brainwashed by Jax, and she's been freed. Now, she wants to be back among her sisters in the tribe." Yuki said looking down at the grave. "Let's go back."

The two left the grave to an uncertain future.

(A/N: This volume is going to be a bit on the different side. I think this volume might be one of the longer ones. I'll be incorporating a few ideas from V4 and V5, namely…that people will be split up for a time. So, what will be the new set up for the Volume? Well, after much thought, I decided that the most efficient way to do this Volume is small scale it. How? Next chapter will explain all. Yes, unlike the other volumes, each episode will have a different ending song to sum up each episode.)

Ending Theme – Taiko - Leaves
