A/N: The end! I hope it's good!

Have You Ever?

Age 24

Sam led him and Mercedes out of the bar and kept walking until he felt like his thoughts weren't jumbled up anymore. He stopped then turning around and looking at Mercedes, she hadn't said a word the entire time nor did she protest him making her leave the way he did.

"Mercedes… fuck you're engaged." He said and she nodded.

"I am and my wedding is coming up." She replied matterfactly.

"Your fiance is literally waiting for you to come back in there with some explanation." He said.

Mercedes looked at him before sighing. "And I will either tell him that I'm sorry for embarrassing him or I will tell him that the man I love finally grew a pair of balls." She replied, stepping closer to him.

Sam felt the corners of his mouth turn upward slightly. "I have balls…" He said teasingly and she smirked.

"Yeah, just not when it comes to me though."

He moved closer to her feeling pressure leaving his shoulders. "This is going to be a shitstorm, you know that right?"

"So same old, same old?"

Sam chuckled and shook his head. "No, not same old, old same old… you'll be my wife and I'll have to explain how I was the reason for your broken engagement." He said, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her close.

"Well you better get to explaining because this is it Evans." She replied, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him down so that they were eye to eye. "So I'll ask again, what are we doing?"

She was giving him a redo, Lord knows he didn't deserve it but he knew how to answer it this time. He smiled at her before kissing her deeply and holding her tightly, thinking about the time that they spent just living two years ago and having his heart shatter when she left was enough for him to know that he was never going to get that with another person nor did he want it.

He pulled away and smiled again. "I need to call you mom." He said and she shot him a confused look.

"Sam, that's not really answering my question." She replied and he just nodded.

"I know but I need to call her right now." He said pulling out his phone and calling her mother. Mercedes scuffed and shook her head before walking away muttering under her breath that he was absolutely clueless.

"Ms. Melissa?"

"Boy, you better be dying or dead calling me this late." She said once she answered and he couldn't help laughing.

"I might be dead if I don't hurry up and ask you this question." Sam replied watching Mercedes walk away.

"Well go on and ask."

"Do you remember when we were eight and went to sleep away camp for the first time?"

Melissa let out a sigh. "Of course I remember, why is that important at this hour?'

"Do you remember me telling you that I would protect Mercedes?" He questioned.

"I do."

"Well, I wanted to ask if I could do that forever? With your blessing I mean." He said, starting to go after Mercedes.

Melissa gasped. "Oh sweetheart, it's about damn time. Yes, you have my blessing." She replied and he laughed.

"Thank you and thank you for being the best bonus mom a kid could ask for."

Melissa got choked up. "It has been my blessing to do that for you. Now go get your girl, she's been waiting."

"I know and I will. Night." He said hanging up right before grabbing Mercedes' arm. "You didn't let me answer."

"Well you needed to urgently call my moma so…" She said, rolling her eyes.

He smirked. "I know you better than you want to admit it Cedie and I know you would've wanted me to ask for her blessing first." He replied, getting down on one knee.

Mercedes took in a sharp breath. "Mercedes, I don't have a ring and I don't have anything romantic planned or a speech but I do know that from the moment I saw you for the first time wearing that cute little blue dress that you were going to be someone important to me. I know I messed up things between us for years and for some crazy reason you never gave up on me. I can't give you back that time I wasted being a coward but I can give you this time now. I promise I will never take you for granted and I promise to love you forever. Will you marry me?"

Mercedes smiled, shaking her head. "We're never going to do anything the right way are we?" She asked and Sam shrugged.

"Maybe it's our thing but I take that's a yes?"

She nodded cupping his face and kissing him. "That's an about damn time." She answered and he laughed before standing and hugging her.

"I love you so much Mercedes." He said, spinning her around. "Now one more thing that needs to be handled."

She nodded letting out a nervous laugh. "Right, Shane." She replied, grabbing his hand and walking back into the bar where Puck and Shane were both waiting.

"Mercedes, what was that?" Shane asked as soon as they approached and she looked at Sam biting her lip.

'Well… we need to talk, privately." She said and Shane nodded looking at Sam before looking back at her.

"No we don't, I see why you've been holding off introducing us now." He replied taking a shot and sighing. "Don't fuck it up dude." He added shocking them.

"Wait, you're not upset?" Mercedes asked

Shane smiled and shook his head. "Your mother let slip that you were settling and that I would know when I met him." He said. "And in the back of my head I kinda felt that way, that you were settling on me but you kept reassuring me that you weren't but I understand what she meant. The second you two were near each other it was over. I ain't no placeholder either so I expect an invitation to the wedding."

Mercedes smiled before hugging him tightly. "Thank you, Shane." She whispered and he chuckled.

"Getting dumped should hurt but I understand when your have soul ties to someone. Sam, this is your one freebie." He said holding his hand out for him to shake which he did. "Seriously, I'll be checking in regularly."

Sam smirked. "I won't fuck it up."

"FINALLY!" Puck shouted. "EVERYONE MY BEST FRIEND AND THE LOVE OF MY LIFE ARE FINALLY GETTING TOGETHER! DRINKS ON ME!" He added and the bar cheered.

Mercedes shook her head laughing. "I can only imagine how he'll act should we have kids."

Sam raised an eyebrow. "Should?" He asked, pulling her close.

She nodded. "We still need to figure us out before we have that conversation." She answered looking up at him. "Doesn't mean we can't… practice."

"Oh you'll definitely have several of my kids soon." He joked. "Come on, we gotta go figure us out so we can start 'practicing'." He added before throwing her over his shoulder and walking out of the bar.

Age 29

"Wait, wait! I need to find their shoes!" Mercedes said looking underneath the bed and spotting one pair.

"Babe, SJ is the only one that needs shoes. We can carry the twins." Sam said, looking at his watch, shaking his head because they were about to be late.

"I found them!" She said standing and smoothing down her skirt. "How are we on time?"

"You know, for a school teacher, you'd think you'd be early for school, especially the first day." Sam teased moving quickly to dodge the shoe she threw at him.

"I am always early but today is special. SJ's starting kindergarten." She said, growing teary eyed.

"Lord, what is taking so long?" Melissa asked, walking into Sam and Mercedes' home. "Oh goodness, girl you're gonna see him all day."

"It's not my fault! It's the damn hormones!"

"Ooo mommy said a bad word." Their daughter Mariah said and Sam snickered.

"She did, didn't she? Mommy needs a timeout." Melissa teased before picking up her granddaughter and hugging her.

"Mommy needs daddy to stop gifting her with babies." Mercedes said picking up their son Max to put on his shoes.

"Daddy doesn't think he was alone in the gift giving." Sam quipped and Mercedes peered at him with a sly smirk.

Melissa rolled her eyes. "I'll take the twins with me that way you two can get SJ off, where is he?"

"SJ! It's time to go!" Sam shouted and their five year old some came running down the hall with a bright smile.

"Hey grandma! I found my pin." He said holding up his star wars bookbag pin proudly and Mercedes shot Sam a look before smiling back at their son.

"Do you have everything you need?" Mercedes asked and he nodded.

"Yep!" He replied before his bookbag barked and his eyes grew wide.

Sam narrowed his eyes at him. "SJ?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Do you want to explain why your bookbag just barked?"

SJ shook his head no, looking over at his grandma who held her hand up.

"I can't help you this time." Melissa said before reaching for Max, who gladly came.

"SJ has Milo in his bag." Max said, trying to whisper but failed.

"I know and if SJ wants to come over to my house after school today he'll put Milo back on his bed." Melissa said lough enough for SJ to hear.

Mercedes and Sam both nodded. "And if SJ wants to go fishing with daddy and grandpa this weekend he'll do it quickly." Sam added.

SJ looked at them before running back to his room and they could hear some shuffling then some barking before he ran back out of his room and into the living room.

"I'm ready now!" He said.

"Are you ready?" Sam asked Mercedes and she nodded looking at their son with teary eyes. He looked so much like her but had his father's smile and mischievous ways. He was the biggest surprise after they'd gotten married when Mercedes threw up cutting the cake. She still remembered what Sam said that made all their guests burst out into laughter.

"We should have known that practicing would end in the opposite way."

"I am." She said, grabbing her things and following Sam and SJ out to the car.

Age 24

"Wait, you want to do what?" Mercedes asked Sam after they landed in Lima.

"I want to get married while we're here, I think a month should be plenty of time to plan before we have to deal with moving and everything." Sam replied and Mercedes looked at him dumbfounded.

"Sam, we've been engaged for a week and we haven't even talked about who is moving where, my job or your job and we have to-" She started but Sam cut her off by kissing her.

"Fine, let's discuss it. Where do you want to live?" He asked and she sighed.

"Can we at least get to my place first?"

Sam shook his head. "We both know there won't be a ton of talking when we get there so we need to get it done now." He replied and she shook her head laughing.

"Fine, I would love the idea of staying here and vacationing at your place in Seattle but that takes you away from literally your entire job. So maybe until we have kids we stay there during the season and mine off?"

Sam nodded, assessing everything she said. "Okay counter offer, we stay here full time and I sell my house in Seattle, I can live anywhere. I will have to travel a bit but I can also just take you with me."

"But I love your house… and so do you."

"I do but any house that you're living in I will love, so we can keep yours, buy a new one or hell I'll even build us one but we both know you want to be here close to your mother and your students."

Mercedes knew he was right. "Okay, we can consider selling your place but not now." She said.

"Deal. Now, that took care of everything you listed. We can get married now." He said and she laughed.

"Boy… you are crazy."

Sam smirked. "You haven't even heard my plan to get you pregnant in the same time frame." He said kissing her.

Age 26

"SAM!"

Sam looked over at his coach who was waving him over. He ran over seeing the urgency on his face. "Yeah coach?"

"Your wife is in labor but she said you have to finish the game."

Sam shook his head. "What? No… I need to be there with her." Sam replied, starting to rush off the field before his couch grabbed him.

"She told me that I let you leave, she was going to kick me in the shin and I met Mercedes. That threat scares me more than whatever you'll try, we have five minutes left and there's a car waiting."

Sam sighed before nodding. "Fine but I'm only running one last play."

"Make it a good one." His coach said and Sam ran out to the field to the huddle calling for a final play.

"Alright nothing can go wrong otherwise Mercedes will kick all of your asses." He said to his team and they all laughed.

His entire team was at their wedding and had the pleasure of getting to know over time and they all attempted to get her to leave him but she would always just laugh them off and tell them no. They even all showed up for the birth of their first child SJ, talk about shellshock, the entire hospital was in a frenzy because fifty-three large men were patiently sitting cramped in a waiting room for Sam to come out with the good news.

"We definitely don't need hot moma coming after us." Puck quipped.

"Let's do it!" Sam said and they all shouted before getting in position.

Sam called out the play before the ball was hiked and everyone ran into position, Sam looked around for his open man but saw that he was still getting where he needed. He looked around then made the decision to try to run the ball himself.

He ran straight ahead, dodging the opposing team, his defensive men came up and kept other players at bay but what he wasn't expecting was someone coming at his side. He pushed harder to get away from him and right before he reached the end zone he felt the hit before he hit the ground and let out a loud scream.

He landed on his shoulder, Sam knew it was more than a bruise because he heard a crunching sound after he landed. He took several deep breaths trying to stay calm, he shook his head knowing Mercedes was going to fuss at him and found himself laughing.

"Bro are you okay?" Puck asked, running over to him.

"She's gonna kick my ass and I don't even care, get me to the hospital so I can be with my wife." Sam replied, letting out a deep groan.

"We're going to get you there but you won is the game so make sure you slide that in when you see hot moma." Puck said as Sam was picked up and placed on the garney.

"Mrs. Evans, your husband is here." A nurse said and her tone worried Mercedes.

"What's wrong?" She asked and the nurse shot her a nervous look.

The nurse moved aside and Sam walked in with a weary smile. "Promise you won't be mad?"

Mercedes let out a sigh. "What in the hell happened?" She asked, looking at her slinged arm.

"I won the game and now I'm here to cheer you on." He answered walking over to her and kissing her on the forehead.

"I would hit you but you're hurt so I'll spare you this time." She said right as a contraction hit and she began her breathing exercises.

"You got this baby." He said climbing into the bed behind her.

"Sir, you need to get your arm x-rayed." The nurse said and Sam just waved her off with this free hand.

"After she gives birth and not a minute before." He said before returning his attention the Mercedes' breathing.

"Sam! You haven't even been seen by the doctors?" Mercedes huffed out.

"I was, I just need to get the X-ray done to see if the damage is repairable or not." He answered and she turned her head, shooting him a look.

"What!"

"It's fine, I'm fine. We're about to have twins and you need to be relaxed."

"How do you expect me to relax when- oooohhhh!"

"I think it's time to start pushing." The doctor said walking in and smiling.

"I'm going to kill you after this!" Mercedes said to Sam and he just chuckled.

"I look forward to it."

Age 27

"So it's official?" Mercedes asked.

The doctor nodded. "Mhm, we've done everything possible to get his arm back but there's no way I can clear you Mr. Evans. This arm isn't irreparable."

Mercedes looked over at her husband worriedly. He hadn't said a word the entire time they were there and she had been the only one asking questions.

"Baby?" She said, grabbing his hand and he shot her a warm smile.

"Thank you doc." He said standing and pulling her up with him. "I appreciate everything you've done and couldn't have asked for a better doctor."

"Mr. Evans, there may still be another way. I do suggest seeking a second opinion." His doctor replied but Sam just shook his head.

"That won't be necessary, we won't be living here much longer and I think it's time for me to try my hand at something else."

Mercedes looked at him confused. "Sam what are you talking about?"

"I have everything I want Cedie, football is just one of many things I wanted to do as a career. I think it's time we moved home full time, plus the kids will be closer to your mom and my dad."

"Are you sure?" She asked and Sam nodded immediately.

"Come on, it's time for a new adventure." He replied.

"Mommy, will you be at my school all day?" SJ asked.

"I will but I won't see you until it's time for music." She replied looking back at him smiling. "Daddy won't be there at all, remember?"

SJ frowned. "Why not?"

"Because I can't be in school with you like mommy can. She's a teacher so she can be there but I'm not a teacher so I'll be with grandpa until it's time for me to pick you and mommy up."

Sam parked in Mercedes' spot, he wanted to drive her to and from work while she was pregnant plus it allowed him to see SJ off everyday and see how his day went after school. He couldn't believe their son was heading off to his first day of school and could only imagine all the wild tales he would eventually tell them.

"So why not be a teacher like mommy?"

Mercedes giggled. "Yeah Sam, why not be a teacher like me?" She teased.

"Because daddy has a job." Mercedes shifted in her seat and looked over at her husband with an amused smirk.

"Do you?" She asked and Sam had to hold in his laugh.

"Come on, we need to hurry before you're both late." He said ignoring Mercedes.

"I thought daddy stopped playing football." SJ said hopping out of the car and holding his hand up for Mercedes.

She smiled and grabbed it while Sam grabbed the other one as they headed inside to his classroom.

"No, I was injured trying to make it to Max's and Mariah's birth and retired."

"Oh, mommy said that you-" SJ started but Mercedes covered his mouth, shaking her head at him.

"Mhm, me and mommy will talk about that later." Sam said, looking at his wife with a knowing look that made her blush.

"Okay here we are." Mercedes said, stopping a few feet away from his classroom door. "You ready baby?" She asked and SJ nodded confidently.

"We're gonna let you walk inside alone, okay." Sam said getting choked up.

"Okay bye mommy, bye daddy!" He said with a bright smile before walking to the door, he turned around and waved at his parents before going inside.

They watched him walk to his cubby and put his book bag inside before seeing a pretty little girl approach him. They exchanged words before he hugged her and Mercedes looked up at Sam with a smile.

"Looks familiar." He said, smiling back at her.

Mercedes nodded. "Let's hope he has better sense than us." She quipped and he chuckled.

"I think we turned out just fine." He said, grabbing her hand and walking towards her classroom. Mercedes bumped him with her hip, shaking her head. "What you don't agree?"

Mercedes unlocked her room door before turning to him smiling. "We're doing alright." She teased.

Sam tilted his head with a confused look. "Hey, I thought I was doing good."

She walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him. "You have been doing amazing and are the best husband and father, I'm only teasing you. You've kept every promise you ever made." She said.

"You know… it all started here." He said and she nodded.

"Actually two classrooms down, this is actually Mrs. Franklin's last year."

Sam smirked. "Oh really? Meet me there in five minutes." He said walking out of her classroom and headed towards their kindergarten room.

Mercedes shook her head, putting her things downs, waiting a few minute before going to Mrs. Franklin's classroom. She knocked on the door and the older woman just nodded her in and she immediately started laughing when she saw Sam standing near the cubbies.

He nodded her over and she obliged. "What's your name?" Sam asked, smiling and she giggle.

"Mercedes, what's your name?" She replied, shaking her head at him but still smiling.

"Sam." He answered.

"Okay you two, I have a class to teach." Mrs. Franklin said, making them both laugh before they walked out of her room.

"I love you Mercedes." Sam said, grabbing her hand as they walked back to her classroom.

"I love you too Sammy."
