Chapter 8

Callie's P.O.V:

"Since Arizona chose a duet, we are going to have Callie Torres come up as well. Come on up here, Callie," I hear the D.J call my name. Shit! I can't do this. I won't. I can't sing. Not in front of all these people. My heart is pounding hard enough it was about to pound through my chest and my mouth suddenly got all dry. I look over at Doug and give him a hard glare. He stares back at me with a huge smile on his face. Yeah, he's definitely getting off on this.

"What did you fucking do," I say through gritted teeth. I've never felt like killing my business partner until now.

"Come on, Callie, it won't be that bad," he says, pushing me towards the stage.

"How would you fucking know," I whisper as I make my way up to the stage. I could hear him chuckling as I leave his side to sing with the unknown blonde. As I got closer to the stage, the blonde woman I'm singing with is already in place and I could see her eyeballing me up and down. Oh yeah, she's checking me out! She gives me a smile small, which I instantly return.

"Hey," she says to me.

"Hey," I reply back.

"Looks like you're my partner tonight,"

"Lucky you," I say, giving her a wide smile. I stand next to the blonde with the mic in my hand.

"Alright, are you two ready," the D.J asks us. I see the blonde give the guy a slight nod, then watch him make a few clicks on his computer. Next thing I know, as the music starts to play, my body suddenly tenses, and my heart starts to beat faster. I let out a huge sigh, hoping that would calm my nerves a little bit.

"Bear with me, I get stage fright," I lean over to say to her.

"No worries. It's a piece of cake, you'll be okay," and just like that, my heart starts to slow down. The nerves start to calm a little bit. As the song plays, I see the words pop up on the screen and they start to highlight as my partner starts to sing

"A fire burns, water calms. You cool me down. When I'm cold inside, you are warm and bright. You know you are so good for me. With your child's eyes, you are more than you seem. You see into space, I see in your face, the places you have been. The things you have learned, they sit with you so beautifully…" I hear her sing. She missed a few words, but she's still doing an amazing job. Now it was my turn. After a slight break, I start my part of the song,

"You know there's no need to hide away, you know I tell the truth, we are just the same, I can feel everything you do, hear everything you say, even when you're miles away, 'Coz I am me, the universe and you," Wow, not only is she beautiful, but she can sing as well. I don't know about her, but I'm having a hard time focusing on the song in front of us. I rather be looking at her instead.

"Just like stars burning bright, making holes in the night. We are building bridges. You know when you're on your own, I'll send you a sign, just so you know, I am me, the universe and you," Out of the corner of my eye, I caught her staring at me. She was definitely checking me out. Which I didn't mind. I couldn't help but smile at her. Finally, our time on stage came to an end and everyone who were sitting down were on their feet. I gave her one last smile before heading back to join Doug at the bar. As I returned, his eyebrows were raised and had a smile on his face.

"What?" I say, returning to my spot at the bar.

"Nothing," he finally says, "have fun?" All I could do was smile. I did actually. I thought it was going to be torture, but it wasn't so bad.

"Yeah, I did actually," I say to him.

"See, I told you it wasn't going to be that bad," he says.

"yeah, yeah," I say, "How about another drink?" He gave me a nod, and we turn to get the bartenders attention.

"So, you going to ask her out?"

"Wow, that question came out of nowhere," I say to him, taking a sip of the drink the bartender put in front of me.

"Maybe you should buy her a drink," he comes at me again, "women love that you know,"

"How would you know, you like men," I reply.

"Just because I'm into men, don't mean I don't buy drinks for women. I mean, seriously, I've been buying you drinks tonight,"

"That's because you dragged my ass out here and offered to buy my drinks that way, I wouldn't kill you," I say with a laugh.

"True, but still...send her a drink," he raises his glass at me, then walks away, leaving me alone at the bar. I look over in the direction where the blonde went and saw her with the blonde woman who started off the night and some guy. Then I see both blondes get up and head in the direction of the restroom. Now's my chance. I turn and order a drink and let the bartender know it's for the pretty blonde sitting back in the back. I sip on my rum and coke, waiting for the two blondes to return to their table.

They returned ten minutes later, and I know she saw the drink on the table because she grinned at the man sitting there. I saw her say something to him, then her eyes darted in my direction. She flashes me a smile and just like that, I'm a goner. That smile of hers could light an entire room. She raised her glass, telling me thank you for the new drink and of course, to be polite, I raise mine back. I watched her talk among the two others sitting at her table and next thing I know, she got up and started walking towards me. I smiled at her as she got closer.

"I see you got the drink I had sent over," I say to her.

"I did, thank you. I'm Arizona, by the way," she says, introducing herself. She reached her hand out for me to shake, which I was happy to return.

"I'm Callie Torres, but I'm sure you already knew that" I say shyly, "So, what brings you out tonight?"

"I'm here celebrating with my brother and my best friend," she tells me, "They just got married today," she smiles once more. Oh my god, she has dimples.

"Oh, so that's your brother? And not your boyfriend then?"

"Definitely not my boyfriend," she says with a chuckle.

"Oh, well good to know then," I say with a smile, "well tell them I said congratulations,"

"Why not tell them yourself? Why don't you come join us?"

"Oh, no. I couldn't do that. I don't want to intrude,"

"Oh, trust me, you wouldn't be intruding. I already feel like the third wheel, would be nice to have some company while them two play kissy face," she says, assuring me that it's okay.

"I'm guessing they're grossing you out?" I ask her with a laugh.

"You have no idea," she replies, scrunching her face up in disgust. I let out another laugh.

"Well, judging by the look on your face, I'm pretty sure I do. But if you insist, I'll come join you," We walked back over to her table and she introduces me to her best friend and by what she told me at the bar, her brother.

"Hey Zona, who's your little friend," the other blonde asks with a smirk.

"This pretty lady here is Callie and she's going to be joining us," she slides into the booth and pats the next to her. I give her a smile and slide in next to her.

"So, I hear congratulations are in order? Your sister told me you two got married today,"

"We did, actually," the man replies, reaching for his bride's hand, then gives it a kiss, "I'm Tim by the way and this is Teddy,"

"Well, it's nice to meet you both and I think that's amazing," I say to them, "Congratulations,"

"We are going to take a short break," we hear the D.J announce, "We will be back up at the top of the list when we get started again," The D.J starts a slow song, then heads up to the bar. Sitting here talking to Arizona and her brother and Teddy, I felt my phone buzz with an incoming message. I open the message and see that it was a text from Doug.

Ask her to dance-D I look around the place to see where he was at and how he knew I was with the group. When I finally spot him, I could see him with some guy at the opposite side, smiling. I put my phone away and try to work up the courage to ask Arizona to dance. I take a deep breath and make my move.

"Would you like to dance?" I ask the beautiful lady next to me. She gives me a smile and a slight nod. I grab her hand and pull her up from her seat and walk her to the dance floor. I place my hands on her hips as she wraps hers around my neck. I pull her closer and we start to sway. "Is this too close?" I whisper in her ear.

"No, it's perfect," she replies. She lays her head on my shoulder as we continue to move with the song.

"Anyone ever tell you that you have the most beautiful eyes?" She looks at me and smiles.

"Not until tonight," she answers, "Has anyone ever told you that you have the most beautiful chocolate brown eyes?"

"Oh, lots of people," I joke, "But I never believed it until now," She gives me another smile, then lays her head back down on my shoulder. Once the song ended, we head back to the table.

"Wow, that was an intimate dance that I've ever seen," Teddy plays.

"Shut up, Teddy," Arizona shoots back.

"What? I'm just saying. You were looking pretty cozy there in Callie's arms," a speck of red formed on Arizona's cheeks.

"Nothing to be embarrassed about, I was just saying, Zo," Teddy says with a small chuckle.

"I'm not blushing," Arizona retorts.

"Oh, you so are," comes Teddy's reply again, "Your face is turning bright red. Isn't it Callie?" I look at Arizona, and sure enough her face was bright red, just like Teddy had said.

"I think she looks beautiful," I confess. And she was. Her eyes were the most perfect shade of blue and even though I've only met her tonight, I could get lost in them. After another hour has passed and another couple of drinks later, I was ready to get out of here. It started to get more crowded with it being New Year's Eve and I didn't really want to deal with it. Plus, I wanted to get to know Arizona better and we couldn't do that in a crowded bar, so I lean over and whisper, "What do you say we get out of here and go somewhere quieter,"

"You don't have to ask me twice," she says. We stand up and grab our coats off the back of the chair.

"So, you going to be home tonight?" I hear Teddy ask Arizona. Arizona looks at me for an answer.

"I'm not sure," Arizona says to them, "We will see how the night goes. If we're both too drunk, I'll probably be crashing on Callie's couch,"

"Okay, well if not, I'll see you tomorrow," Teddy says, grinning. After Arizona hugged her brother and best friend, we finally went on our way.

*So, Arizona is going home with Callie. As I said, it will have the same story line but a little more added to it than before*
