AN: Hey sorry for the random upload, school and work have been up my ass and I barely had the energy to write. When I got the motivation I ran with it and finished this chapter
"Ay grab the red ones, they are the juiciest!" Miracle pointed to the red salmonberries with his flashlight. Tree reached up for them, grabbed some gently with his big fingers, he lifted his mask and the berries gave a soft squish as he chewed on the delicious food. He hummed low in his chest and Miracle giggled "good right?" He nodded and shoved more berries into his mouth, the juice looked like blood was leaking from his lips and between his fingers. The sweet treat tickled his tongue and made his cheeks red with rushing blood, so sweet even his teeth ached.
The giant man moved slowly with intensity, Miracle could feel his steps in the ground. He quickly learned the footsteps outside when he was at dinner, the dogs would go wild but his mother brushed it off as a critter. It's only been two days since the new companion arrived, the giant followed him throughout the woods to discover something new each time. He seemed to already know the forest, but he let the boy have his fun in leadership. He let him show the best spots to forage, where the bears would hibernate, where the fish leaped, and Miracle's favorite part, where the butterflies laid their eggs.
The man didn't pick his feet up much, which led to lots of dragging. This wouldn't be an issue if he didn't trip constantly. Like he did again, Miracle barely missed the three hundred pound boulder falling onto him. "Oh god are you okay? Your leg looks really bad!" Miracle rushed to the twisted leg. The fabric ripped off completely, showing the distorted limb and the bone poking out. Soon he'd help shove the bone back in, but first Miracle stuck the flashlight into his mouth to illuminate the wound.
The man softly slapped his hand away and groaned as Miracle tried to push again. With his own force, he shoved the bone back in, twisting the limb back into place. New pink flesh covered the wound and he slowly stood up "wow, like Wolverine, that's so cool!". He felt the difference between rough mottled gray skin to soft pink flesh.
"Zombies are so cool. But do you feel better Tree? Actually you have a lot of blood stains on your clothes. You hurt yourself a lot don't ya?" Miracle giggled as the man stood up. With the moonlight as a guide Miracle went back to his home. Leaves and sticks crunching under both of their feet, once the outline of the house was visible he went into a sprint. The man started to race him, allowing the eight year old to win. Once at the kitchen door, Miracle slid it open to let his new best friend in.
The man stood at the opening of the kitchen, using his only good eye to quickly glance back and forth. Familiarity pooled in his stomach as well as distant; moreover, flashing images of the kitchen filled his head. Didn't that picture frame belong over there? Who moved the knife case? When were the cabinets this dark? Why are the stove and fridge completely different?
He only took one step in the pathway and watched Miracle go. He was making a sandwich it seemed, what else does one do with bread and lettuce?
"Want turkey or ham?" The man stood still, how could he possibly tell the boy what he wanted? The minutes started to tick by and his body stiffened more. He held his hand up his chin, fingers curled other than his pointer and thumb. Holding them an inch apart he swayed his fingers back and forth like a wattle to a turkey. "Turkey? Alright! Hey I didn't know you could sign. Or is that all you know?" He was met with silence again as he assembled the sandwich.
He pulled his hand away from his chin and looked at it, it came so naturally. Now the question came to his mind, what else do I know?
Two more bodies come across 's table, officer Ron and David. David was hung like a prized fish with barbed wire and Ron wasn't any better, he came in two pieces and a bucket of organs. The first question that came into her mind as she looked at the bodies "look in their files, were they involved with the camp blood John doe?"
"Why does that matter doc? You're the bones lady, you're supposed to tell me how they died" the lieutenant scoffed at her request. If this was an unprofessional setting she would've slapped him with her clipboard. She took a deep breath and gathered herself.
"It's obvious how they died. I am just trying to solve this just like you. Since your main detective is dead, he's still over there with the screw in his eye, I decided to pick up the slack." She gave him a look as dead as the corpse in front of her. Lieutenant looked her up and down, his eyes resting on her bosom before looking her in the face. He chuckles and waves her off.
"Just stay here, be pretty and mess with bones alright? Let me do my job" and with that he left the examination room. She scorned in his wake and huffed. She looked at where he once stood and saw her golden ticket, his ID card. Bastard was staring too much at her tits to realize he left it. Quickly she grabbed it and tucked it away in her pocket.
"One way or another, I will figure this out."
Mireya stacked the last dish in the drying rack then heard familiar footsteps coming down the stairs. It was three in the afternoon, Miracle has never slept this late before. Once he was in the kitchen she rushed to him, feeling his forehead, his temperature was normal. She softly sighed and kissed his temple, "hey, why are you waking up so late? What is keeping you up at night hmm?" She stroked his eyebrows causing him to relax in her hands.
"Nothing ma, just that new video game that came out. I've" he looked her in the eye "I've been obsessed with it." He smiled at her, she pets his hair and respired. She knew something was off but not exactly what, she heard his treads and paces throughout the house at night, they kept her up as well. There was a matter of inky darkness that is causing him uneasiness at night, what was it? How could she fix it? Was it this home and the newfound memories inside of it that made him want to run?
