Jill, you really have to stop eating cookies in the car, eating in the car period."
White noise came from the vacuum as he continued to run the nozzle over the dusty and crumb covered mat.
"You shouldn't be complaining it's my car, I offered to do it but you never let me."
She walked in through the door way holding a cold glass of lemonade and handed it to him.
"Because you don't have the basic knowledge of cleaning car interior."
"How can I be so hard vacuuming a car, I do it around the house all the time what's the difference."
"It's more than vacuuming Jill."
She rolled her eyes and decided to let him win knowing he would talk hours and hours on how to 'properly' care for a car.
"Well I'm very thankful that you take your time out to clean my car." She said then kissed him on the cheek.
"You're welcome." He smiled warmly.
"Even better, I can carry Patty to see a movie in a spotless car."
"That's today." He attempted to whisper under his breath. It slipped his mind that Patty and Jill were planning on going to the movies. He hadn't made plans to do anything while she was gone.
"Yes Tim, that's today I told you Patty wanted some time for herself and I offered to take her out."
It didn't come as a shock that he forgot that she was planning leaving the house today. She stood leaning against his work bench and eyed him as he stopped working on the car and made his way to her. He ran him hands up and down her arms and pouted.
"What am I gonna do when you're gone. Al's on his honeymoon and the boys are barely home during the day."
She smiled and how child like he sounded. If it were under different circumstance she probably would've stayed and spend the day with him but she ready needed to be there for her friend.
"Tim, I'll only be gone for about three hours, we're just going to watch a movie then we'll get something to eat and I'll be right back home all yours I'm sure you can entertain yourself until then."
She kissed him then stepped out of his hold before she did something she was going to regret.
"Now I'm going to get ready because the move starts at 5 and since tomorrow is Saturday we can do something together."
"Okay honey have a good time."
"Thanks Again Jill the movie was great."
They went straight to a near by diner after their movie to grab and spend some time talking.
"Ohh, don't worry about it, it's the least I could do."
She really wanted to spend quality time with Patty. She hadn't seen her for a long time and she wanted to put her at some kind of ease. Not just for Patty but her as well. She couldn't remember the last time she went out without Tim or the boys. What she needed was time away from the boys and someone to talk about 'women stuff' with that understood.
"So how are you and Dave?"
She spotted some hesitation from Patty after asking the question and realized it probably wasn't good.
"We're actually not together anymore." She said moving her food around on the plate.
"Oh I'm sorry to hear that, what happened." Jill asked her genuinely.
Her eyes were casted down to her drink stirring her ice around in the glass with her straw when she answered.
"Things just didn't work out. I wanted one thing, he wanted something else so that couldn't work out."
Jill listened attentively to her friend and couldn't help but notice how much had changed in her life. She also noticed that she didn't give her a very much detailed answer but it was rather straight forward. When she's ready she'll tell me. She worried a little if she was working everything out. Sure Patty is a strong woman but every could use a little extra help. It made her wonder how her life would've turned out if she and Tim didn't end up together.
"Anyway, how's the family, Tim stop destroying things yet?" She asked with a smirk written across her face. Before things got busy it wasn't unusual for Jill to call her on the face and hear her talk about Tim blowing something up or tweaking a household gadget.
" Everyone is doing great and no Tim hasn't stopped yet, but he recently filmed the last episode of tool time."
Patty was surprised to hear that tool time had ended. She also knew that Tim loved the show so much she was sure it would run for much longer.
"Yeah, how's that going for him." She asked.
"He's doing good. Oh you know Tim no major moping, he's still working on something he can do during the day." She has been assisting him on finding some kind of activity to do whilst being home. At least when she's not working herself.
"Anyway, have you given some thought on are you going to start dating again."
"I gave and I'm not rushing back into it right now. As for now I'm a woman whose better left off to her own devices." Her ear to ear smile became contagious provoking Jill to smile also.
It didn't come as a surprise to hear Patty share her personal information. They've been close friends for a number of years so they've grown to share their private life.
"I'm sure you're doing great." A giggle evident in her voice.
"I'm serious Jill, you should get one for yourself or even for you and Tim to share. Could probably add more excitement to your sex life."
Even though they weren't experiencing any problems in that area it would be a great time to try something new.
"Honestly, it would've good to hear that some time ago."
"Hmm, we'll i wish you all the best."
Later on that evening they finished their meal and Jill carried Patty back home. They separated after hugs and were already arranging a time when they would see each other again. As she drove back home she pondered on the thought of bringing toys into the bed room how Patty suggested. It definitely would bring some eagerness.
She become cofounded when she realized that the idea excited her. Making the decision she would come to Tim with the proposal but on another day. She wanted to be sure of herself and make sure she brought it up in an tranquil state.
"I'm home." She placed her coat on the rack and scanned the living room for Tim.
He was stretch out the the sofa holding loose pieces of paper in his hands with his reading glasses on. Obviously he's been putting his free time to good use. Thankfully not trying to fix something in the house again.
"Over here, honey." He waved a hand full of papers and motioned for her to come and sit. His eyes were still glued to the sheets of paper and as she came closer she was able to see that he was holding his mobile phone.
"I've been going through some number and the phone book to see if I could find some small hands on jobs until I find out what I'm going to do." He handed her some papers and she begin loooking over them.
"Did you have any luck?"
"Yeah I did." He took off his glasses and placed them on the coffee table. "A few construction jobs nothing big, I've made some calls maybe when Al's back from his honeymoon he'll join me."
He got up from the sofa with a mug and went to pour himself another cup of coffee.
"So how was your date with Patty?"
"It was good, we had a great time."
"I'm sorry, do you want some coffee?" He asked gesturing to the hot glass with steaming coming from it.
"No thank you, but Patty does have some changes she's getting use to…. She and Dave broke up." She told him turning her body fully around in the sofa so that her entire body was facing his direction.
"That's unfortunate, why'd they separate."
"She thinks it just wasn't meant to be."
"That's understandable."
" But Tim you should've seen her face when I told her you were done with tool time. Complete shock."
"Who wouldn't be everyone knows I'm a tool freak."
He leaves his coffee mug on the counter and sits back next to her only this time she lays her head in his lap and her body is stretched out in the couch.
They sit quietly in each other presence, his fingers weaving through her long hair until she speaks.
"If we didn't get married or end up together why do you think you'd be and be doing."
His fingers continue to brush hairs out of her face "I don't know but I probably wouldn't be happy."
"Probably."
"Okay, Miss Cocky" he says smiling down at her.
"You didn't make plans this weekend right?"
"No, why?"
"I have somewhere I want us to go."
