Chapter 18-
"She told me that I needed Professional help, Teddy," I yell into the phone, "I don't need professional help. What I need is…is…"
"Is what, Zo?" she asks me.
"I don't know," I say, slumping down on my bed, "I just want to go back to that night I met Callie and just undo it all,"
"You mean…"
"Yes, I just wish that I never had sex with her and that..." stopping mid-sentence again.
"That what? That you hadn't gotten pregnant?" I just froze after hearing what just came out of her mouth.
"How did you know," I ask her.
"I've known since that night I came to see you. I could see it in your eyes. no matter how hard you tried to hide it,"
"Why didn't you say something?" I ask her.
"I just figured you would tell me the truth eventually," she says, letting out a chuckle.
"I'm sorry I lied to you," I say apologetically.
"Don't be. I probably would've done the same thing,"
"Really?"
"No. Are you kidding? Something like that, I would never have kept from you. And maybe…"
"What?"
"Maybe it wouldn't hurt for you to talk to someone,"
"So, what? you're taking her side now?"
"I'm not taking anyone's side. I'm just saying that maybe you should at least talk to someone. I mean, let's face it, your life is about to change again, and I don't think you're having a hard to handling all of it all. You're about to become a mother, Zo. And with the way your behavior has been, it's not good for you to keep things bottled up,"
"Alright, I get it. But anyway, the real reason that I called is because I need a favor,"
"Name it," she quickly replies.
"Would you be able to fly out here and drive back to Seattle with me? I have some money saved up from working at the radio station and I don't really want to travel alone..." The line was quiet for a minute, "Teddy? You still there?" I hear a few clicks of her computer, then her voice comes back on the line.
"Done! I booked a redeye for tonight. So, I can be there tomorrow morning,"
"Thank you, Teddy," I say in a whisper.
"Of course. Besides, I can't let my best friend travel alone when she's carrying my niece or nephew. There are too many crazies out there and last thing I need is for my sister-in-law and her baby to get hurt. We can't have that now, can we?"
"No, I guess not," I say, putting a self-conscious hand over my stomach.
"Now that we got that all squared away, have you told Callie about the baby yet?"
"No, not yet" I say, defeatively. I still haven't told Teddy that Callie was here a few weeks ago. To me, that's something that I should really keep to myself.
"Don't you think you otta tell her? I mean, it's her baby too, after all,"
"Yeah, I guess I probably should. I'll probably call her when I get back to Seattle. I rather not share this kind of news over the phone,"
"I see your point. So, when do you have to be out of there?"
"I have to be out by the end of the week," I tell her, "I'm going to get as much stuff packed up as I can tonight,"
"Okay, well I will let you get to it then. I will see you tomorrow morning," she says to me, "I love you, Zo,"
"I love you too, Teds. Thanks again,"
"No problem. Talk to you later," After hanging up, I tossed the device on my bed and let out a huge sigh. Why did this have to happen?
The next morning, I woke up to Teddy standing over me.
"Good morning, Sunshine," She greets with a smile, which nearly caused me to jump out of my skin.
"Jesus, Teddy! You scared shit out of me," I say to her, "How did you even get in here?"
"Sorry," she says, "But, I found the extra key you had hidden under your mat, by the way, you need find a better place to hide it," she jokes.
"Very funny. What time is it?" I ask, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
"11 a.m.,"
"Are you serious?" I ask. I grab my phone off my desk and looked at the time. It was 11 a.m. just like she had said it was, "How long have you been here?"
"Since 10 a.m. Why?"
"And you didn't bother to wake me?"
"You looked so cute sleeping," she teases, "I didn't have the heart to wake you. Why? You need to be somewhere?"
"Yeah, I have to go to the Dean Frost's office and give her my keys,"
"Wait, why would you return them? Aren't you coming back in September?"
"I'm not coming back, Teddy?"
"Why not?"
"Because I can't be a mother and attend school too,"
"Why can't you? There are a lot of college girls that went to school and raised. You'd just have to figure out a schedule that works,"
"I'm not those women. I can't do it,"
"Since when has 'can't' been in your vocabulary?" she asks me, "You know what, never mind. It's none of my business. I'm going to start getting the car loaded up while you go turn in your keys. I should be done by the time you get back."
"I'll can help you really quick," I say, as I try to reach for one of my heavy boxes.
"No... go take care of what you need to do. I've got this. Besides, you shouldn't be lifting heavy things. Not to mention, you're still in your pajamas. No one wants to see that."
I just shoot her an evil glare. I rummaged through one of my boxes to find a change of clothes. Once I was done changing, I decided to grab a smaller box to take to the car. Even though she said she would load the car for me, I decided to help anyway. Once we got the car was loaded up, I went back to double to make sure I didn't miss anything. Then Teddy and I made our way to the Dean Frost's office. I gave a slight knock but before receiving an answer, I opened the door.
"Oh, Ms. Robbins. Come on in. What can I do for you today?"
"Hi Dean Frost, just wanted to turn in my keys to my dorm."
"Thank you," she says. I give her a nod and turned around to leave, "Ms. Robbins," she calls after me. I stopped and turned to face her, "I'm sorry it had to end this way,"
"Me too," I reply, then turned and headed out back out the door.
"Robbins," I hear Alex call as I was heading back into my dorm.
"Hey Alex," I say to him with a small smile. He looks to my almost empty dorm, then back to me.
"You're leaving?" he asks sadly.
"Yeah," I say to him. He just shook his head at me and flashed me a disappointing look. "I have to, Alex,"
"Why?"
"Because I have too much going on right now and I think it's for the best."
"That's bullshit," he quips, "what do you have going on that makes you feel the need to leave school?"
"I'm pregnant," I finally tell him. He looks at me surprised. I never told him about the baby until now.
"Why didn't you tell me before?"
"I don't know. I just…"
"Just what?"
"Nothing. I just think this is for the best,"
"I understand. We're going to miss having you here," he says, pulling me into a hug, "Now I'm going to find someone else to cheat off of," I just let out a soft chuckle.
"I'll miss you too," I say to him. Alex and I said were saying our final goodbyes when Teddy came walking back to the dorms.
"You ready?" she asks me, then turns and looks at Alex, "Hi, I'm Teddy,"
"I'm Alex Karev,"
"Oh, so you're the famous Alex?" she smiles, "Thank you for looking out for, Arizona,"
"Happy to do it. I'll see you, Z" Alex says, then walks away. Teddy and I watch as Alex rounded the corner. Then she looks at me,
"You hungry?" Teddy asks.
"I'm starving." I tell her. "This baby makes me want to eat all the time."
"Well, that's normal. Let's go grab some lunch before we hit the road, huh? What do you say?"
"Sounds good to me." I tell her. Once we did a look over on the room to make sure we had everything, we headed out to grab some lunch before hitting the highway.
After lunch, we finally hitting the road. Car was silent for the longest time. Not a single word was spoken.
"So..." Teddy states, breaking the silence.
"What?"
"Are you sure you want to do this? Come home?"
"Kind of late now to ask me that, isn't it?"
"Yeah, you're right. You doing, ok?"
I shook my head. "Honestly? not really. My emotions are all over the place." I tell her. "I just don't understand how I went from being this happy, go getty, perky, smiling girl, to a crabby, person who hates everything and everyone. Well, except Alex..now. and you," I say lowering my head.
"Look, Arizona, I know it's been a rough few months, and I know you're going to have a lot of mixed feelings, But please, you need trust me when I say this, things will get better. I promise,"
"That's easy for you to say. You and I are different, Teddy. Always have been. I had a plan, and my plan was to get through college, then get married, then start a family. This wasn't how it's supposed to be,"
"Plans change, Zo and sometimes things happen. You can't dwell on what happened, and you can't ignore it. Not now. You had a choice in the matter. You could've made the choice not to drink, but you did. And now because of it, you made an irresponsible decision and had sex,"
"I know," I say, wiping away an unshed tear.
"I understand you were a virgin, but maybe you should've told Callie before you guys did anything. But most importantly, you need to stop blaming her for all this. It's just as much as your fault then it is hers,"
"You're right," I say to her. And she was. As much as I hate to admit.
"I know I'm right. You know why?"
"No…"
"Because I'm awesome," she says with a laugh.
*Thoughts on Teddy and Arizona's talk? Think things will start to finally change with Arizona? I guess we will see. And as I said, I'm not great with pregnancy timelines. So bear with me. Hope you enjoy*
