"Where are we going to go," he asked as they grabbed the bags from the back of the car.
"Switzerland," Teddy replied.
"Switzerland," Owen asked.
"I called Yang and took her up on her offer," Teddy replied, "I know we were hesitant but it's a year contract minimum to set up a trauma training program and a cardiac trauma teaching program at Klaussman."
"So we're running to my ex-wife without two and a half kids," Owen said.
"Half," Teddy asked.
"The new one," he reapplied.
"I've flown at 11 weeks before. I'm wondering how it will be at 7," she said.
"Who knows," he asked.
"You," she replied, "and Carina."
"Switzerland really," Owen said again.
"Yang as been hounding me to come start a true trauma program since I left med com I texted her," Teddy replied.
"What did you send," he asked.
Teddy showed him her phone.
Teddy, "we're coming with both kids. Flying out tonight and can teach for a while."
Christina, "get a cab straight to Klaussman I'll have accommodations worked out. How long is awhile?"
Teddy, "I don't know how long. See you soon."
Owen looked at her, "we're running to my ex wife with our two, almost three kids."
She nodded, 'we are. It's the first place I thought of. She's gotten people out of Grey Sloan fast before. You go work for her get out of the line of fire in Seattle."
"The kids," he asked.
"Will adapt," she assured, smoothing Allison's blonde hair, her little mini me asleep in her lap. She wondered if the new baby would look like Owen, "we'll figure it out. We always do and I'm good at moving continents with a few essentials and starting over."
"Our house,' he asked.
"When we get there we call your mom and ask her to look after the house," she replied, "and get the cat."
"She'll worry," he said.
"She will and she should this time," she replied, "mom's worry. We don't have a choice right now."
"I dragged you and our kids into it," he argued.
"We said for better or for worse and that we would always love and be there," she said, "this is the worse."
"Your career," he said, "I killed mine and likely yours."
"Our family matters more," she replied, "and intention was good. Grey got charged and had community service and a hearing for her licence. Those people needed our help. Maybe we didn't do it the right way and with official channels but you stopped and you were trying to help officially."
He looked at her sitting so calmly with Allison in her lap on her white knuckles on the armrest between them betraying her anxiety. She had always been good at faking calm.
"When you went in the house," he asked.
"I got the passports, our marriage licence," she assured, "clothes the kids have their stuffed animals."
"Teddy look at me," he said, "we will figure this out together. You don't have to figure it out alone."
"I can't be alone," she said, "not now. Not with three kids."
"You won't be,"he assured, "I love you. I will not leave you alone."
"I can't be alone again," she whispered.
"You won't be," he promised again.
"You can't promise that," she hissed, "you don't know."
"I will do everything in my power not to leave you alone," he assured, "we're going to work at Klausman for a while. Christina will be fair."
"She will be," Teddy agreed, "I'm sure Grey will have told her why."
"Does Grey know," he asked, "we only talked to Bailey and Ameila thinks we're going to Megan's."
"I don't know how close her and Yang still are," Teddy replied, "we all talked to Yang when Meredith had COIVD."
"Mommy," Leo whined, waking up in Owen's arms.
"Yes buddy," Teddy asked softly.
"I have to go pee," Leo said.
"I'll take you," Owen said, "let's go buddy."
Teddy watched them walk away and sat with Allison in her arms. The last time she had flown across the Atlantic had been to tell Owen about their now almost 3 year old daughter. She held the little girl closer wishing she had the child's peace. Allison didn't know that her world was about to be thrown upside down again. All she knew is that mommy and daddy and Leo were there. Teddy wished for the child's peace and trust. But she knew better, she knew this was temporary, one day they would have to face the facts of what he had done, what they had done. Legally she wasn't sure what to call it, she's not sure if it's murder but he was deifnfilty dealing drugs illegally. The people had approached him for help and he had gone underground to help them. That's the part she didn't fully understand, why he didn't guide them to doctor assisted death, do it legally. She knew that he was protecting their honor and suicide was not honoruable. But the way they were being treated and gas lit wasn't either. The world was broken, she had always known it was broken but now after COIVD and Black Lives Matter and her kids, her amazing beautiful kids she was terrified of how broken the world was. Maybe they would be safer in Switzerland, a country that kids weren't shot in their classrooms, that didn't ask it's teachers to put their lives on the line to protect the children. Her kids would be safer is Switzerland, they would miss Evelyn terribly and Megan and Farouk but they would be safe. She had always managed to find a community and people when she had run before, she could do it again. This time she wasn't fully alone, she had her husband. She knew she loved him and he loved her, they had for 20 years. They loved each other and maybe this time it was enough to just be together. She knew they had to stand together and she had to let him in. I'm not alone she reminded herself.
"Do you want to switch," Owen asked coming back with Leo.
"I could use the washroom but she's asleep," Teddy replied.
"Leo sit in my seat for a minute," Owen said, before lifting Allison from Teddy and tswitching spots with her.
Teddy walked to the washroom and in the mirror saw the bags under her eyes and the exhaustion in her face. She took a deep breath, we can do this as a family.
Owen held Allison who stayed asleep and took Leo's hand.
"Where are we going papa," Leo asked.
"To Switzerland," Owen said, "to see Dr Yang, she's a friend of mom and mine. We're going to go work at her hospital. And you're going to a new school and will get to learn German."
"Mommy talks to us in German," Leo said.
"She does," Owen replied, suddenly realising he would need to learn German fast, Teddy hadn't used it in 3 years now but it would come back to her. She did use it occasionally to face time with a couple friends but she said it had slipped.
"Everything okay," she asked.
"Mommy," Leo asked, 'where's roodle?"
"In the bag do you want Roodle," Teddy asked.
Leo nodded, Teddy took the stuffed toy out of the bag and passed it to him.
"Can I sit with you," she asked.
Leo nodded again. She checked the flight map on the screen on the back of the seat in front of her.
"We're half way," Teddy said, "Leo can you try to sleep please."
Leo soon drifted off again and Teddy shifted so she could be closer to Owen soon her head fell onto his shoulder. He knew she wouldn't really sleep but he let her rest. They would be okay, they would figure it out. He softly kissed the top of her head.
