Chapter 35
Arizona's P.O.V:
After arriving back at Callie's, the apartment was quiet. Like too quiet. I walked into Noah's room and found his crib empty. So, I decided to check the bedroom, thinking that maybe she had brought him in with her. When I got to the doorway, my heart nearly skipped a beat at the site before me. Callie was propped up against the headboard with Noah on her chest, both were fast asleep. Her left arm rested under his bottom, while her right hand layed firmly on his back. I pulled my phone from my pocket, then tip toed more into the room to get a better shot. But without realizing, the shutter sound of my camera had woken the beautiful Latina.
"Hey, when did you get back?" she whispers out.
"Just a few minutes ago," I say, sitting down next to her, "How long has he been out?"
"I'm not sure. Half hour maybe. Did you enjoy your time with Teddy?"
"I did," I say with a smile, "did you enjoy your time with Noah?"
"I did," she says, returning the smile, "so, how did it go?"
"It was good. We just talked a little bit. She also said something about taking Noah for us tonight so that way we could actually get some sleep,"
"What did you say?" she asks, raising a brow.
"Well, I was hesitant at first. I told her she shouldn't have to and that he was my responsibility, but she insisted,"
"Well, one, he's not just your responsibility, he's mine as well. I told you, I won't let you do this alone,"
"I know," I say quietly, "I keep forgetting is all. I'm not used to this whole thing at yet,"
"I know, and we will get there. It takes time. But I say, we take Teddy up on her offer. That way we can have some alone time together. Maybe order in, watch a movie,"
"That sounds perfect," I say, leaning in to give her a quick peck on the lips.
"Mmm, your lips taste good," she says, going in for in another kiss.
"So does yours," I say, smiling into our kiss.
"So, is that a yes on tonight then?" she asks me.
"It's a definitely yes," I tell her, "Want me to put him back in his crib?"
"No, he's okay. I love it when he sleeps on me," she says, placing a kiss on Noah's forehead. She runs her hand through his hair and smiles, "look how dark his hair is,"
"He's got your hair, Calliope," I say to her.
"He has part of yours too. I mean, look, the tips of his hair is frosted with a little bit of blonde. He even has your eyes,"
"Yeah, I noticed that this morning when I brought him in with us," I say with a grin, "he's such a handsome little guy,"
"He is," Callie says, agreeing with me.
"Scoot over," I tell her, tapping her on the leg. She slides over to make room for me next to her up against the headboard. I turn my camera back on and turn it to selfie mode.
"What are you doing?" she asks.
"Taking our first family photo," I lean in closer to Callie and hold phone out to snap a picture of the three of us.
"Send that to me," she says, "I want to print out a copy and put it on my desk in the office. I tap a few buttons on my phone. Once I seen that it was delivered successfully, I put my phone away and curl up to my two loves. With her left arm still secured under Noah's bottom, she wraps her right arm around me and pulls me closer to her and the three of us drift off into peaceful slumber.
I jolt awake at the sound of my phone going off. I reach for the device off the nightstand, but it wasn't there. I shuffle around the bed, trying to figure out where the ringing was coming from. When I finally able to find it, the ringing had subsided. Looking at the screen, I seen that I had three missed calls from Teddy. I pull up her contacts and hit the call button. It rang twice before she answered.
"Hey, I was just leaving you a voicemail,"
"Sorry, I couldn't find my phone. I had it in my back pocket, but I fell asleep with Callie and Noah, and it must have fallen out,"
"It's okay. I just wanted to see what time you were bringing the little man over?"
"I-um-I don't know. What time is it?" I ask, pulling the device away from ear to check the time.
"It's after five," she answers. Holy crap! How long have I been asleep?
"Yeah, I will get him around and bring him over," I say to her.
"Great. Tim should be home soon so you will be able to see him as well,"
"Perfect. Thanks again for doing this, Teds,"
"My pleasure, Zo. See you in a few," After hanging up with Teddy, I walk out to the living room.
"Look, No, mommy's awake," Callie says to Noah.
"How long have you been up?"
"Not long, twenty minutes maybe," she says, then turns her attention back to Noah.
"Is he ready to eat yet?" I ask, taking a seat next to them on the couch.
"He should be," she says, handing him over to me. I lift my shirt and undo my bra so I could feed him. He immediately latches on, "God, he's so amazing," Callie says, running her finger up and down Noah's cheek.
"Yeah, he is," I say, looking down at our little bundle, "you know, when I first found out about him, I wasn't so sure, but now that he's here, I can't really picture my life without him,"
"I know this isn't how you pictured your life. I know that you wanted to finish college before starting a family and I'm sorry I messed that up for you…"
"No, Callie, stop. You didn't mess anything up. You're not the only one to blame here. It was my fault too. We were both drunk and did an irresponsible thing, but honestly, I don't regret it. You and Noah are my life now and I wouldn't change that for anything. I love you, Callie. I loved you from the moment we met. The only thing that I regret was treating you the way I did, cutting you out of my life the first few months. But I'm here now and that's not going to change,"
"Not even when you go back to school? I mean, don't you have a couple weeks left before you have to go back?" After she said that, it just struck me that I never told her I had dropped out. I mean, she should've known already since I had to be back to school last month, but I guess it never occurred to her.
"No, I'm not going back to school, Callie. When I came home in April, I moved back permanently. I dropped out. I wouldn't have been able to handle my class load on top of raising a kid. If anything, I'll go back in a few years when our Noah is a little older," I look down at Noah and seen that he had fallen asleep, "I think he's done," I say, changing the subject.
"Can I burp him?"
"Yeah," I pass him over to her. She carefully places him on her chest and gives him a few pats on his back, "I'm going to go get his stuff ready so we can take him over to Teddy's," I move from the couch and head into Noah's room to get his stuff together.
"I have been waiting for you," Teddy says, ushering us into the house. Tim and Mark were sitting at the table playing a game of cards with a bottle of beer in front of them.
"Ah, come to join the party huh?" Mark smiles.
"What party? I only see two frat boys drinking beer like a bunch of pussy ass bitches," I shoot back.
"Whatever blondie. By the way, congrats on the kid. He's handsome like his Uncle Mark," I just roll my eyes and turn my attention back to Teddy.
"Don't let him anywhere my kid while he's been drinking," I say to Teddy.
"You don't have to worry. I've got him. Tim won't be touching him either. Once they're done with their card game, I'm sending their asses over to Mark's place,"
"You going to be okay with Noah by yourself?"
"We will be fine, don't worry," Teddy assures us, "Now, you two go have fun and get some sleep. We will see you tomorrow,"
"Okay. There are a few ounces of breast milk in the side pockets of the diaper bag. Just nuke a little bit before you give it to him,"
"Okay, I got it, now go," she says, shooing us off. We give Noah a few kisses before we head out.
"Think he will be, okay?" I ask Callie as we climb into the car.
"He will be fine, babe,"
"What if he keeps her up all night?"
"Babies do that, sweetie. Look Teddy will be fine. I'm sure she knows what she is doing,"
"Callie, Teddy is 19, just like me. She hasn't been around babies since her little sister was born. That was when we were 11,"
"If you're that worried about him, we can always go back in and get him,"
"No, it's fine. It's just for one night, right?"
"One night, that's all," she says, lacing her hand with mine.
"Okay, fine. One night," I say, letting out a sigh.
"Great. Now, how about we enjoy our free night, hmm,"
"Sounds perfect to me," Callie shoots me a wink, then fires up the engine. I take one last look at the house where my son will be at for the night. Callie shifts the car into reverse, and we pull out of the driveway and head off back in the direction of the apartment.
*Hopefully that wasn't too boring or out of storyline. Let me know your thoughts *
