Chapter 36
Callie's P.O.V:
"So, what are your plans for Thanksgiving?" I ask, joining Arizona in the kitchen where she was giving Noah his nightly bath.
"I haven't thought about it. I'll probably just hang out with Noah since Teddy and Tim were planning on going to California to spend the holiday with her family. What about you? Did you have any?"
"Actually yeah, my best friend is coming into town to spend Thanksgiving with her family, so she invited me to spend the day with them," I tell her.
"Oh well that's nice," she says, "can you hand me his towel please?"
"Sure." I say, reaching for the object. I laid it over my chest so she could place Noah in my arms to wrap him up, "Would you like to come along? She said I could bring someone. We could go together, you know, as a family. Besides, you said that Tim and Teddy were going to be gone, so you would be by yourself, so why not spend it with me,"
"I wouldn't be by myself, I'll have Noah," she says, lifting Noah out of the sink. She places him in arms so I could dry him off.
"I don't know, Callie. To be honest, I really don't know these people and I'm not really comfortable being around people I don't know,"
"You can just stay close to me. Hell, I'll even introduce you. That way you won't feel awkward,"
"Okay, fine, I'll go," she says.
"Really?" I ask, sound a little surprised she accepted my invite.
"Yes, really," she says with a smile.
"Arizona, you ready? It's time to go babe?" I call out from behind Noah's bedroom door.
"Hang on, I'll be out in a minute," I hear her call back.
"Do you need any help?" I ask, opening the bedroom door.
"Actually, yeah, that would be great. Could you change his outfit for me while I go change into a different shirt?"
"I thought you just changed him," I say, taking Noah from her grasp.
"I did. But after I picked him up, he decided to spit up all over both of us,"
"Well, that's not very nice, NoNo," I say to him in my baby voice, "were supposed to love Mommy, not puke all over her. But I guess it's better her than me, so nice job," I chuckle, trying to give him a high five.
"Very funny, Calliope," she says with a poutiness in her voice, "I hope he gets you next time. See how you like getting barfed on,"
"It's all part of being a parent, babe," I say, laughing at her.
Once we got Noah changed and Arizona changed her shirt, we were ready to head out.
"Are you sure they're going to like me?" Arizona asks, putting Noah in the car.
"They're going to love you, so stop worrying," I say, sliding into the driver's seat. I fasten my seatbelt, then fire up the engine.
"God, I hope so," my girlfriend says, sliding into the passenger side.
It only took us about ten minutes to get to our location. As I open the back door to grab Noah from the backseat, I hear Arizona shout.
"Fuck,"
"What? What's wrong?" I ask her.
"I forgot to pack extra outfits in the diaper bag in case he spits up all over himself,"
"Well, let's hope he doesn't spit up," I tease. She just flashes me a dirty look, "Arizona, it's fine. We were a little preoccupied trying to get him around. So, we forgot to double-check the diaper bag, big deal,"
"It is a big deal, Callie. Babies need extra clothes," she grumbles. She slams the car door shut, then follows me up to the door.
"It's not that big of a deal," I whisper to her, ringing the doorbell.
A moment later, the door swings open and was greeted by Addison's mom.
"Callie, it's so good to see you, sweetie," she says, pulling me into a hug.
"It's so good to see you too, Bizzy," I say, returning the hug.
"Come on in, everyone is in the living room. They can't wait to see you, especially Addie," She steps aside so Arizona and I could enter the house. Walking into the living room, I spot Addison immediately.
"Addie," I call out. The redhead turns around and smiles.
"Callie, hey how you been? I haven't seen you in months," she says, pulling me into a hug.
"I've been good, actually. Busy, but good. Addie, this is my girlfriend…."
"Addison?" Arizona cuts in, raising her brow.
"Arizona," Addison says, sounding just as surprised.
"Wait, you two know each other?" I ask, giving them both a confusing look.
"Yeah. Arizona and I had a couple of classes together back in January. How have you been, Arizona? I hadn't seen you around campus," Addison asks, then glances down at Noah in his car seat, then back at Arizona.
"Yup, afraid so," Arizona laughs nervously.
"How old is he?"
"He just turned two months on the 10th," Arizona says to her. She looks at me with questioning eyes. I knew what she was trying to ask me, so I nod my head in confirmation.
"Yeah, he's mine," I tell her.
"Okay, wait...hold on..." she says, sounding a little confused. "Is she that random girl from the bar? You know, the one you told me you hooked up with on New Year's Eve?" she asks, pointing at Arizona. I realized from that moment; I knew was in deep shit.
Arizona's P.O.V:
"Wait, hold on," Addison says, sounding a little confused, "is she that random girl from the bar? You know, the one you told me you hooked up with on New Year's Eve?" she asks, pointing at me. What I look over at Callie and it was like all the blood had drained from her face. She looked like a ghost. When she looked at me, all I could do was shake my head.
"Callie, can I speak with you privately, please?" She swallowed hard as she followed me into the other room.
"Addie, do you mind," Callie asks, clearing her throat.
"Yeah, sure. We will just be in here," she says, taking Noah from me, then walks towards the living room.
"You told her you slept with me?" I ask my girlfriend as we moved our conversation into a more private room and out of ear shot.
"I didn't mention you specifically, but I told only told her I slept with someone. I didn't tell her who," she says to me, "Besides, you never told me that you knew her,"
""You never asked," I shot back, leaning up against the desk.
"Okay, you're right, I didn't. But still…. how did you guys even meet anyway?"
"She and I met at a park. I had just found out I was pregnant with Noah, so I went to the park for a little bit to clear my head. She was the one who approached me,"
"You mean the park across the street from the dorms?"
"How did you know?"
"When she got back to her dorm, she apologized to me for taking so long to call back. She said she saw some girl in the park and that she recognized her from some of her classes and felt like she needed a friend. So, she wanted to check to make sure she was ok. But I swear, she never mentioned to me the girls name,"
"Right, and you expect me to believe that?" I snap, "you expect me to believe that after that day you saw me in the coffee shop, you never told her who I was? and just out of the blue?"
"No, I didn't. Not once did I ever mention your name to her. Every time she asked, she always said 'that girl from the bar'" Callie says defensively.
"Right, that's why she figured everything out so quickly as soon as she saw Noah,"
"Fine, don't believe me, I don't care. I swear to you that all I had said was that I got drunk and had spent the most amazing night of my life with the most beautiful woman, that when she realized what we had done the next morning, she freaked and walked out on me, then refused contact me after that,"
"So, this was just some random coincidence? Is that what you're telling me?"
"Yeah, I guess," she shrugs.
"God, you're so full of crap, Callie," I say, turning to walk towards the door, then turned around to look at her, "So after you told her about our random hook up with me, how do I know that the two of you didn't bash me for walking out?"
"Because I wouldn't do that. I love you, Arizona. That's why I never told her your name. I didn't want to hear the negativity towards you,"
Just as I was about to respond, there was a knock at the door, then Addison pokes her head in.
"Hey, sorry to bother you two, but I think Noah is ready for a feeding and diaper change," she tells us. I just look at Callie then back at Addison.
"Thanks, Addie," I quietly say to her. She nods her head, then moves aside so I could leave the room to take care of Noah.
Callie's P.O.V:
After Arizona left the room to take care of Noah, I just stood there, running my hands through my hair. Trying to rack my brain of what just happened. Just this morning we were happy about being able to spend our first thanksgiving together then once I introduced her to my best friend, it's like her mood took a one-eighty turn.
"You, okay?" Addison asks, concerned.
"How the hell did this happen?" I sigh out.
"How did what happen?" asks, furrowing her brow.
"How did everything go from being happy this morning to her blowing over the fact that we had talked to each other about her,"
"I'm sorry Cal, I didn't mean to say anything. When you introduced us, I realized I already knew her. Then when I saw Noah, I just put two and two together. I didn't mean to say cause a fight between you two, saying what I said,"
"Addie, It's okay. I don't blame you. I just didn't expect her to blow up the way she did," A moment later, Arizona returns to the room, with Noah in her arms. She looked like she had calmed down a bit.
"Hey, Addison's mom wanted me to come in and let you know that dinner was ready,"
"Thanks," Addison and I say together. We follow Arizona out of the room and into the dining room.
Entering the dining room, everyone had already taken their seats. I take the seat next to Arizona. She gives me a weak smile then turns her attention back to Noah was content in her lap. After saying grace, we all dig into our holiday meal. Everyone was talking amongst themselves, but as for Arizona and I, she still hadn't said much to me. I look over at Addison who was sitting across from us, and she gives me a knowing look.
"So, Arizona," Addison starts, clearing her throat, "how did you and Callie meet?" She looks between Addison and I before she answers.
"Well…um…we…uh…" she stutters, then clears her throat, "we met at a bar,"
"A bar?" Bizzy puts her two-sense in.
"Yes, Ma'am," Arizona answers politely, then gives her a smile.
"Aren't you a little young to be in a bar?"
"Mom," Addison counter.
"What? I was just asking a question. I mean really, she can't be more than 17. Am I right, Arizona?" Arizona just shifts uncomfortably in her seat.
"Mom, seriously, that's enough, okay, leave her alone,"
"I'm 19, Ma'am," Arizona answers, sounding a little uncomfortable.
"I just don't get kids today," Bizzy says, shaking her head. Addison looks over at Arizona and mouths 'I'm sorry to her,'
"So, Bizzy, how's everything at the hospital?" I ask, trying to take the attention off Arizona.
"Great, Dear. But I have to say, the new interns we have been running amuck lately. They're so eager to learn that they practice putting I.V's in, and suturing each other up, all that good stuff, you know. Almost as bad as teenagers drinking in bars at such a young age," about that time, I think Arizona had about enough of Bizzy's judging, about as much as I have.
"I wasn't drinking, Ma'am. A friend of mine owned the place and he let us in for karaoke,"
"Well, but still, you had no business being in there. Not at your age. If I had it my way, that bartender would be losing his liquor license,"
"You know, you're right. I didn't. So, forgive me for wanting to get out and unwind a little bit after a very rough semester of college. I just needed a night out," she states, standing from her chair, "if you will excuse me," she takes Noah and leaves the dining room.
"Mother, what the hell was that?"
"What? I was just being honest," Bizzy says cooly, taking a bite of her food.
"You don't know her, so you don't get to judge her," Addison shot back, then turns to me, "I'm so sorry, Callie,"
"It's fine. I'm going to go find Arizona," I say, getting up from my chair. I wipe my face with my napkin, then place it on my chair, then head off in the direction Arizona went.
*So, thanksgiving didn't go too well with Addison's family like Callie had hoped. Let's hear your thoughts *
