Chapter Twenty-Four
Peter stopped short when he saw Scott and the first time that he wanted to do was kick himself. How could he be so stupid? But then again how was he supposed to know that Scott would be waiting in his room like a creepy vulture?
Peter said numbly trying to keep his voice from shaking. "I can explain."
"Really?" Scott raised an eyebrow as he started walking towards him slowly. "I would love to hear it. Are you going to Comic Con? Vegas? Or are you just a regular fanboy who can miraculous crawl on walls?"
Peter's throat felt tight and his voice started shaking. He was right. What excuse could he give? So instead he said in a shaky voice. "You can't tell anyone. Please." Peter felt like he was going to throw up, but what little food that he had eaten wasn't coming up. "Please, please you can't say anything to anyone. There is a reason why I'm Spiderman. I want to live a normal life. I don't want to bring any more problems to May, so please Scott don't say anything."
Peter took in a sharp breath as Scott slammed him against the wall. Peter's very bones shook as his petite body slammed against the wall. Peter felt Scott's hot breath on him, and he flinched as he braced himself for another beating. He wanted to fight back, but for some reason Peter's body was frozen in fear. Scott had the upper hand now, he knew his secret.
"I knew your parents, Peter." Scott said calmly and so unexpectedly that Peter froze. "Richard and Mary, I knew them. We worked together in fact. Before they died they were working for the government, they wanted to make any type of superhuman illegal. Just like your friends and the people that you admire most, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, and the list goes on and on. When I asked why they were so determined to do this they told me that they wanted the world to be safe for their precious baby boy-"
Peter felt a punch across his face so hard that he could swear that he heard his jaw pop. Peter's head landed against the wall before he fell on the floor. He tasted the blood inside his mouth as he looked up at him. His parents? Scott knew his parents? Why hadn't he mentioned it before? Why hadn't May?
Scott pressed his foot against Peter's stomach pressing on it, not too gently. "Imagine how disappointed they would be if they saw how their son turned out to be Spiderman. How many innocent people did your fellow Avengers kill during the Loki invasion and you're aspiring to be like them. How sweet."
"I didn't ask for this," Peter managed to say, his voice shaking. "It was an accident. You have to believe me. I got bitten by-I didn't ask for this."
"Get out." Scott said as Peter struggled to get up. Why did his body feel so weak? Like jello. He struggled to get up and Peter looked at him with daze and confusion. What? Leave? He couldn't leave. When Scott saw that Peter wasn't moving, he immediately lifted him up and slammed him against the wall again. Peter's teeth were chattering, and he could feel the blood inside his mouth, and he wondered if he had bitten his lip or if Scott had treated Peter like his own personal punching bag again. "I said get out. You being here has caused nothing but problems for me and May. Do you know that she loses sleep over you, Peter? Every single night she can't sleep because she's worried about you. Now I know why. You're nothing but a burden to her. It would be better if you just left. It would make sure that she is safe for good. Don't worry, Petey your secret is safe with me. All you have to do is leave."
Guilt entered Peter's chest and his entire body was shaking. Scott was right, he was nothing but a burden. Always had been and always will be. May had already lost a husband because of Peter and now Peter would be responsible for her loosing her own life in the process sooner or later. Scott was right, it would be better if he just left.
Peter stood up wearily. "Ok, I'll leave, just give me a second to grab a few things. What will you tell May?"
"That you needed some time. You're not the first teenager that has run away you know. But as long as you're Spiderman it's best if you don't step foot in this house. You need to decide Peter what is more important to you, being Spiderman or your family?"
Peter shut his eyes. He loved being Spiderman, but he loved May more and May was the only family that he had left. "You won't tell anyone about me being Spiderman?"
"I promise."
Peter nodded as he grabbed his backpack and shakily left the apartment. What was wrong with him? Why did his body feel like it was made of paper? He had never felt this bad before not even during the fight with Thanos. He needed his pain pills, but he had left them back at the apartment and he didn't have the guts to go back and get them anymore. So, he needed to go back to where he had first got them from. Dr. Strange.
Peter didn't know what he was going to do after he went to visit Dr. Strange especially since he had 20 dollars in his pocket. Peter decided that he would worry about that later. What he really wanted was to just ger rid of the pain first since obviously his natural pain killers had decided to take a hiatus.
He had visited Dr. Strange's townhouse before and he just hoped that it wasn't too late to visit him. Peter went towards a nearby restaurant and hastily cleaned up all the blood on his face as he tried to come up with an excuse of why he needed more pills since Dr. Strange had warned him that they were strong.
Maybe he could say they were for future fights. Would Dr. Strange believe that? He hoped he would because getting his ass kicked by May's boyfriend was not an acceptable excuse. He reached the townhouse and Wong answered the door. He looked surprised when he saw Peter. "Hey, you're that Tarantula kid, Peter right?"
"Spider actually, but you were close." Peter shifted in his shoes. "And yes, it's Peter. I'm sorry for coming in so late, but I really need to talk to Dr. Strange."
"He is having a video conference. He should be done in half an hour. You can wait in his office if you want."
Peter nodded thankfully, eager to have more time to come up with a lie. Wong led him up to Dr. Strange's office and when Peter was up there he realized that it would be easier if he just stole the pills. He knew it was morally wrong, but it was better than coming up with some lame explanation.
Peter didn't have time to be distracted by shiny objects. Instead he started opening boxes, cabinets, and drawers until he finally reached a small wooden cabinet. He opened the cabinet doors and breathed a sigh of relief as he saw the row of pill bottles. He recognized the one that Dr. Strange had given him before and he grabbed that one.
Suddenly something red took the pills from him as it went back to its master. Peter turned around and saw that it was Dr. Strange's cape that had taken the pills from Peter and was now wrapping itself around Dr. Strange.
Dr. Strange had a pissed off look on his face, "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Busted.
