Chapter Thirty-One
Happy placed down the suitcases at Peter's feet once Tony had left to make sure that everything at the clinic at HQ was ready for him. He had on a look of pity that Peter had come to despise, even though it just meant someone really cared for him.
May had stayed behind and had been in a whirlwind ever since Tony left. Constantly fluffing his pillows and asking Peter if he needed anything. Peter wondered why Tony had been so quick to leave. He had merely informed him he knew everything Scott had done and that he had placed Natasha and Bucky on interrogation/torture duty. Then he had left before Peter could ask him anything else which was just plain weird.
"Do you need anything else, kid? I'm going to drive you and May to HQ."
"No, Happy, I'm fine."
Happy didn't look convinced because he didn't move for at least five minutes until May cleared her throat. "Ok, kid I'll start bringing the car around towards the front. Do you want me to page a nurse so they can bring a wheelchair over?"
"No!" Peter blurted out. He had already been embarrassed enough and he didn't need even more people fussing over him. "I can walk, thank you Happy."
Once Happy had left it was just Peter and May, his aunt sat next to him on the bed and leaned over and squeezed his hand. "Have I apologized to you in the last twenty minutes?"
"Only fifteen times," Peter joked lightly. "May, how many times do I have to say it to convince you? It wasn't your fault. It was my decision not to tell you. I thought I was protecting you by keeping you in the dark. Please don't beat yourself up over this anymore."
"Don't ever do that again, Peter." May warned. "Don't ever try to hide things from me because you think it's better if you do. In reality you are just making it worse, kid."
Peter laughed lightly as he rested his head against May's shoulder. He was feeling a bit better although he still felt incredibly weak. He had overheard Bruce telling the doctors not to prescribe him any more pills. Instead, all of his pain medication must be given through an IV which meant Tony and Bruce knew about Peter's fondness of oral pain killers.
Peter sighed, that was going to be another battle especially since the poison was slowly leaving his body. The only good thing was he never had to see Scott again. Still, he wished he could see him one last time to ask him why he had done this, though he doubted he would give him a straight answer. "Let's go, May. I'm sure, Happy is waiting for us."
There was a loud cracking sound as Scott pulled his head and moved it back to its rightful position as he stared at Bucky and Natasha who were interrogating him at one of the room in HQ. They had been in this room for the past two hours, but the asshole standing in front of them was still keeping his stupid mouth shut.
Natasha raised an eyebrow towards Bucky as she got her taser ready. "Easy, ok? Tony made us promise we wouldn't kill him. At least not yet. We need some more information from him."
Scott let out a choked laugh. "You are insane if you think I am going to be answering your questions."
Bucky and Natasha exchanged looks, Bucky crossed his arms over his chest. "She has a taser and I have a metal arm, believe me we have ways of making you talk. Now do you want to answer some questions, or do you want me and Agent Romanoff to play rock paper scissors to see which one of us will get to beat you to a bloody pulp first?"
Scott hesitated for a moment and Natasha took that moment as a moment of weakness. She leaned down to stare at him. "Why did you decide to go after Peter Parker? Something tells me it wasn't because you were annoyed that your girlfriend had a kid tagging along for the ride."
Scott licked his swollen lips swallowing the blood. "Mary and Richard Parker were government officials. Little Peter's parents. They were responsible for ruining an operation in where I had planned on killing some pretty powerful government officials. They only got my errand boys of course, I was left free when they didn't have any proof that I was actually involved, but that really put a kink on my plans. Then a year ago I find out that the Parkers had a kid who is being taken care off by his sweet widow aunt. That kid surprise, surprise is ruining my plans just like his parents did all those years ago. I have plans of my own and having the friendly neighborhood Spiderman sniffing around was really putting a kink on my plans. You know how the saying goes, if you want to get rid of a spider you have to stomp on it."
"That's not a saying at all," Natasha responded flatly.
A cold smile appeared on his lips. "Oh, well. I have to admit I thought Spiderman would put up more of a fight. Spiderman might be tough, but Peter Parker on the other hand is so weak. I really had fun making him suffer. He really has that wounded deer look perfected. Everything was just so easy: beating him, getting into his head, poisoning his food until he was slowly dying-"
"How did you get the poison that was attacking his immune system?" Bucky asked harshly, he was now facing Scott, his eyes darkened with fury. "It wouldn't have been easy, and I doubt you have the brains to make it."
Scott pursed his lips. "Wouldn't you like to know? I think I'll take that secret with me to the grave."
Before Natasha could even blink Bucky's metal arm went across Scott's face with so much strength his head was ripped from his body until it landed across the room. Natasha scrunched up her nose at the blood that had landed on both of them. She raised an eyebrow. "Tony said not to kill him."
"Tony knows I rarely follow orders," Bucky responded simply. "Why else do you think he placed me here?"
Three weeks later Bruce was giving Peter the green light and releasing him from the HQ clinic. Peter had felt this day would never come even though he had slowly been getting his strength back and he was as rosy cheeked and happy as he had been before Scott came into the picture.
He was excited. There were so many things he wanted to do. Go back home to his apartment, see his friends MJ and Ned, he was even excited to go back to school and finish his junior year with some dignity. "Is the poison out of my system, Dr. Banner? Can I leave? Am I free?"
Over the past three weeks him and Dr. Cho had been injecting him with all kind of medication to help him recuperate his strength and get rid of the poison faster. Although Peter appreciated their efforts, he was tired of feeling like a pin cushion.
Dr. Banner removed his glasses as gave him an amused sigh. "Yes, my impatient patient you are good to go."
